I fell completely in love with this fragrance from the moment I was shown it at nordstrom. The packaging is very beautiful and very art deco oriental inspired. The fragrance itself is very feminine, sophisticated and extremely sensual because of the heavy musks within it. I'm a musk queen so I just went crazy for this purfume. Also it's so strong you barely have to dab it on to get a good amount of fragrance, so despite the high price, a little goes a long way so it'll last you a while. 5 stars... this is a gorgeous fragrance.

I normally don't favor new fragrances, I find them trendy and mediocre. And that's exactly how I felt about the Dragon, up until... now. I finally figured it out: Although this packs quite a wollop on paper, it almost disappears on skin. I have been frustrated more than a few times with this one! And then, today, IT happened: This morning I put on the bodycream and parfum, and sure enough, an hour later, it had vanished. But I had a busy day, I wasn't going to obsess over flighty perfume!
But then... My husband needed a ride from work, he got in my car and his face changed. He said that whatever I was wearing was very beautiful. But I couldn't smell it! At home, I carefully sniffed my skin, very slowly, and paid attention. And I got it:
The Dragon is SUPPOSED to make a pseudo disappearing act, but it's only pretend. What it does is give the skin a very subtle, natural scent, slightly accented with almondy nuttiness, a few light spices, softened with gentle, powdery florals and cozied up with woods, musk and resins. The effect is almost impossible to notice if you're not paying attention. And as harsh, flat and overbearing as I found it on paper, it melts into the skin and becomes demurely sensual. And yes, it lasts, boy does it last! Easily all day. But the best word to describe it is SUBTLE. Not an entrance maker, not a 50 meter sillage, it's the scent what happens if you're lucky enough to become that intimate: the smell that skin has when it's undressed and thinks it has privacy to be so.

I'm not very impressed. (Anyway, I don't expect much anymore when I try a new fragrance - I think that fragrance industry somehow regresses/degenerates). :-(
Yes, it is a "dusty", spicy-woody fragrance as someone said here, and like lilly_munster (7/30/2004) posted -
it lacks uniqueness. It contains some typical "masculine" fragrance notes: vetiver, cedar etc. but in an unbalanced accord of the top and heart notes. Something in the heart notes reminds me of Must (but the cheaper version).

Drydown is better, more stable and much more pleasant, warmer, softer, not too offensive,
quietly woody. While I don't like the top and middle notes, the drydown is not bad at all, but I agree that it is not very feminine or sexy either.

For the first time in Cartier's 150-year history, Cartier has created an exclusive fragrance—Le Baiser du Dragon.
The French jeweler created this fragrance as an illustration of the rich Chinese culture and the fabulous Art Deco form, a celebration of both tradition and modernity.
A masterpiece of unique origin, the scent blends a variety of powerful elements: delicate, sweet top notes of bitter almond, neroli orange, and gardenia. Woody, powdery heart notes of iris, cedar, and musk. Earthy, sensual base notes of vetiver, patchouli, and benzoin.
A study in contrasts, the bottle links Chinese art to the Art Deco style: inspired by a 1924 Cartier bottle. A "yin and yang" concept combining warm curvaceousness with geometric rigor. A Chinese ideogram appears in pale shadow on the bottle's surface, and as emphasis on the stopper. Black lacquered stopper with a thin band of red around the top; dagger-shaped dabber "pierces" the center. Round, flowing glass bottle with smooth ovals on each curving side"

OK,it's not that it's bad and it really does smell expensive. It's not meant for young girls either. What I actually did not like about it, is that it lacks uniqueness and personality. I mean, blend Coco, Helmut Lang, Addict and Zen and you got it! Smells rich but not sexy at all.

Mesmerizing. Mysterious. Powerful...and rich. Le Baiser strongly reminds me of the old rich. Everything about it speaks of class, wealth, time, experience and beauty. Everything from its bottle to the glorious juice inside. I hope to own a bottle someday.

For me, "Le Baiser du Dragon" is the most beautiful perfume from Cartier. The very special and unusual notes of vetyver are incredibly feminine and sophisticated.

A very great fragrance to me!

Awful - Hall of Fame bad. Scenario: You walk down your basement stairs - it's dank & musty. Ah, there in the corner is your dead Aunt Edna's old cedar chest. You remember Aunt Edna - not one of your favorite aunts. She always smelled of some strong heavy "perfumey" perfume. Also wore linament sometimes. You open the cedar chest - which is filled with moth balls - and you pull out one of Aunt Edna's old wool shawls. Put shawl to nose & inhale deeply. That's the scent of Le Baiser du Dragon - dank, musty, cedar & mothballs, old dusty-smelling perfume, linament. This, to me, is the Crown Jewel of old lady perfumes - verges on making me sick.

I got a sample of this in a swap and then got one from my aunt. I tried it on at her house and when she smelled it she said, "OOh, smells kinda dirty--in a good way!" So now we refer to it as the "slutty--but in a good way" perfume, LOL I don't really think this fragrance is for me, but I found it interesting, as there were a lot of notes and images that each one seemed to invoke in my mind. I may give it a try again, but a definite way to avoid the heavy '80s like cloud of scent is to be VERY light handed with it. Spray into the air and walk through it quickly! Hope I didn't offend anyone with this review, after all, I meant "dirty" in a good way! ;)

The first breeze smoldering off the skin I sort of loved...sort of loved. I got deep woods cedar and rose with a lot of musk...can't identify that sweet,~~~ hachoo!!! orangey scent. And it keeps~~hachoo!! bumping up and out and pushing away the pleasure of pure musky woody roses.. Then it changes to a total sneeze fest with too much powdered sugar in the woods. Love those woods in the base but not whatever syrup is dashed in there to ruin it.

Now I've read other reviews for this and I see amaretto is an ingredient. Yikes! That's what ruined it for me. I have fruit loop skin to begin with, so don't need the sugary scents. This is a good one for those who like sweet woody fragrances...has incredible staying power too. (my sample is edp, not parfum) Update: Had to change this to a 1, because it causes pain to my head.

This is trying so hard to be a big-girl scent in the manner of Coco and Opium, but instead of the aspired-to Catherine Deneuve, it's a Cher impersonator staggering home at five in the morning, marinated in club cig-fug and spilt alcopops.

The Eau de Parfum is (surprisingly) marginally better, in that the powdery floral notes gain a greater prominence over the booze'n'smoke. But still not great.

This is a sophisticated, adult, sexy scent. It has a warmth and depth that I love. Woody, oriental, smooth. It does remind me of those big 80's smells, and of Coco. Unfortunately, it also makes my skin burn and itch :( Oh, the tragedy...

I am a fan of this fragrance. I remember the first time I read about it was a post by my fragrance twin luciac. I loved her review and contacted Cartier for a sample.

It arrived with these words "A timeless and mysterious woman's fragrance. The magical encounter of precious woods and vetiver. The sensous voluptuousness of iris and the deep warmth of patchouli. The new femininity of a great woody vetiver fragrance".

I was instantly smitten. It seems to be a love/hate fragrance based on the reviews and posts on MUA. I personally adore it and plan to one day purchase it. I think it is a very powerful scent reminiscent to the fragrances of the 1980's(in a good way!). I think if you love Kenzo's Jungle L'Elephant you will fall for this scent. It is similiar in its power and feeling(wild, slightly sensual).

The notes are: amaretto accord, iris, cedar wood, vetiver root, and patchouli.

I agree with both the bad and the good comments posted here. It's definitely a big scent and 80's in that oversized, oversexed glamour way. But what's wrong with that? The 80's are making a comeback (jelly shoes, fuschia pink), so why not roll out the perfume to match? Also, heady, woody scents linger better on redheads. So if you are a bigger than life, oversexed redhead--go for it!

I tried the EDP and here was my first impression: This is definitely a take-no-prisoners, kick-butt kind of perfume. Unfortunately, it also kicked its (unfortunate) wearer.

My wonderful Secret Santa (barbarascohen) slipped a sample of this into my package, and I was very anxious to try it. It has vetiver and a host of other woody oriental/chypre-ish notes that I normally like.

However, when I spritzed this on, it really did not appeal. At first, all I could smell were chemicals and possibly plastic. It smelled like the worst stereotype of dept. store perfumery I have ever read. Then as it dried down,it was still strong and the chemical scent to it never faded. I wear all kinds of strong chypres, but this one was just too much for me to ever want to deal with.

The name of this fragrance translates to "Kiss of the Dragon". I do not want to be kissed by this dragon. Love the bottle though--it is gorgeous. I tried this on at NM, was given a big sample to take home. However, this stuff is SO strong I had the image that it sank through my pores, into my bloodstream and I may never be rid of it. I used alcohol and lemons on my wrists, scrubbed in the shower and it was STILL THERE. I do like the way it smells, just from a LONG way off. Now, the lotion is fabulous. Of course it doesn't come in that wonderful bottle. :( Respectfully submitted, colormepink

Ugh, I must agree with the hilarious description below: "Overbearing and boozy, with the subtlety of a hippo on crack." LOL! Actually, I didn't hate the powdery, woody initial notes, but then the incensey chemical heart- what I can only describe as an ice-cold, sour, mildewy-basement accord- hits me like a shovelful of graveyard dirt in the face. And man! The way this stuff rises off my arm in a practically opaque cloud, the way no amount of soap & water can remove it, or dilute it even the slightest bit... it's a big ol' throbbing headache in a bottle. EDIT: OMG, even a generous application of rubbing alcohol did not budge this from my arm! Aaaarrrrrgh...

If you love spicy oriental fragrances, than you will love this one. I see that a lot of people here did not favor this perfume saying it's very 80's and old ladylike. I am 33 years-old (and no that's not old!) and I don't feel that way at all IMO. Everyone is different and everyone's chemistry will work differently w/each perfume. You just have to find one that blends with your skin. If you come to think of it, perfume really has no age. It's how it makes you feel inside that counts! I love this fragrance. It has notes of amaretto accord, iris, cedar wood, vetiver, bulgarian rose and patchouli.

There really is this thing called
"chemistry." I was inspired by the sample of this fragrance in the promotion literature, and impressed by the scent on someone else. I bought it --it doesn't work for me at all! Do yourself a favor and buy a small sample of it on ebay before you invest in something you might regret.
