I suppose this product works OK, but I just cannot get past the awful fragrance that lingers on and on. It also leaves my hair extrememly dry. There are better products out there for silver hair.

This is my HG shampoo! I have very light ash blonde hair (almost white) but I have a bad rust problem with my water. This sometimes turns my hair a yellowish/orange color. ew. I use this shampoo 3 times a week to keep my hair color white ash blonde! Be careful if you overuse this though or leave it on too long because it will begin to turn your hair to a greyish color.

Best purple shampoo going! Unlike most other purple shampoos, where you need to wash your hair with normal shampoo in addition to the purple stuff, you can use this one as a regular shampoo.

I colour my hair a light-medium blonde from brown with red undertones - hair dressers are constantly killing themselves to get my hair the right colour. Nothing I've tried has been able to maintain the blonde I want quite like this stuff. And it's so much cheaper than all the others. Hair dressers don't even have to use a toner on my hair when I get it coloured any more!!!!!

I bought this instead of my usual PM purple shampoo- it works just as well as far as brasiness and it IS cheaper, but and it's a big BUT, it makes my hair extremely tangled and gummy feeling. It doesn't dry or style nicely after using this product and feels dry and like it has a lot of residue in it. I'll spring the extra for PM from now on.

Works fantastic for toning down brassy hair. I use it twice a week after shampooing, leave on for two minutes, rinse really well and then follow up with my regular conditioner. This is very drying if not followed up by a good conditioner. So cheap and really works!

Absolutely did its job. Recently went (slowly) from dark brown to dark ash blonde with all over light blonde high-lights that would be perfect for a few days, then require me to use a toning product (Fudge Paintbox Whiter Shade of Pale) until I ran out. I tried the John Freida toning shampoo and conditioner and didn't notice a difference (and it was very drying). Finally found the Sally Beauty in my town and got both the shampoo and conditioner. Absolutely toned down the brassiness and lightened a few strands even more, giving me an even more multi-dimensional natural look despite the bleach blonde. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because it really does smell like old ladies, sort of a sour baby powder thing. Anyone find anything that helps with that, please let me know!

WOW! I was very skeptical about this product, but after visiting a salon and going blonde from a level 4 medium brown left me with some pretty bad brassy tones, I was in desperate need of a quick fix that didn't involve any more hairdye or chemicals. This product looked promising, but I didn't have very high hopes for it. I was willing to try anything though, and I figured that it couldn't hurt to try. This stuff is amazing! I had brassy, yellow/orange streaks throughout my hair, and this toned everything down, made my hair look more uniform color-wise, and left it super shiny and less radioactively bright.
Bottom line: If you are skeptical (like I was), go and buy it at Sally's for roughly $9. If it doesn't work for you, you can easily return it. But you really won't have to return it! It's a miracle worker!

I bought Shimmer Lights based on product reviews I found on here and a couple other websites. I have been highlighting/lowlighting my hair for many years. I go back and forth between very blonde and much less blonde, depending on my mood and condition of my hair. Last time I got it done (3.5 weeks ago) my colorist put a toner on my hair as I told her it was too yellow the time before. Okay, it wound up less yellow but much too dark. In the past to combat yellow/brassiness, I've used Bumble & Bumble's purple shampoo/conditioner - which work wonders but for some reason my salon decided just the week before to carry a different product - so it wasn't available to me plus it's very expensive - so I decided to try Shimmer Lights and see if it was worth it.

The first 3 times of using both the shampoo and conditioner? I swear my hair seemed duller and most definitely drier. I didn't want to use it more than that per week so I gave my hair a break with a deep conditioning treatment in between and moisturizing shampoo/conditioner. The next two times I tried it, it seemed that my highlights were slightly brighter but I swore that the few gray strands I have were also brighter !!! (They product DOES say for blondes and silvers... ugh) - so anyway - I actually tried one more time, only because a couple people posted it can take a while to get the affect... and guess what? It DOES work. It then looked way better.

I do realize that my toner likely washed out significantly by then as well but it also reduced the yellowness that was beginning to come out.
I will use it a couple times a week at most now - but after I use the conditioner, I then use a moisturizing condition in the shower plus I always use a leave on conditioner after I get out of the shower. I shampoo/condition daily and with as much highlighting as I've had done, I need alot of moisture...

I do recommend this product. It's not QUITE as good as Bumble & Bumble but given the savings, I'll stick with Shimmer Lights... !

I am a brunette. Never really feel like a "true" blond. But I have a full highlight and pretty much everyone refers to me as a blond. I had some color issues from a highlight mis-communication with my stylist. I had more red and brass than what I like. I prefer a shiny dark blond appearance. I was skeptical. Bought it and loved it! I am a believer now. Makes my color and texture far better in just two washes. I also got the Feria color conditioner--I have a new head of hair. Before this I was into Redken All Soft. It made my hair soft, but it looked like mop and unruly.
Made a difference in the humid Florida weather too!

I was recommended to this product by P&G when I wrote in to complain about them discontinuing their ProV Silver Expressions line. I absolutely hate this product. I intended to use it to get the brassy yellow out of my silver hair. Wasnt happy about having to go to a beauty supply store and paying the exorbitant prices either but thought it if works, then why not. Well, it was a complete waste of money! I have used 2/3 of the bottle and the more I use it, the worse my hair looks! Even my kids are taking notice. The brassy yellow is taking over and my hair no longer looks silver. I even have had several comments that what silver is left looks purple!!! I cant bear to wear my long hair down because of how horrible it looks. Its embarrassing. I would not recommend this to anyone with silver/grey hair! Dont even get me started on the horrible smell or how poorly the conditioner is! Its like conditioning with purple water.

I used this for the first time yesterday, after noticing that the blonde in my ombre hair was getting brassy. I left it on for about a minute and was pleasantly surprised with the result. It definitely cuts down the reddish tones blonde can sometimes get. I know people say it makes hair dry, so I doubled up on the conditioner and my hair looked great after blow-drying — barely brassy!

Awesome for keeping blonde hair from getting brassy, just keep an eye on how long you keep it on, you will get lavender hair if you don't rinse after a couple of mins.

This really works. First time I tried it I left it on for twenty minutes and now I use it for five minutes every two weeks to keep my blonde highlights looking fresh and not brassy. I would recommend this as its cheap and really works, however it does smell horrible and is a bit drying so recommend a deep conditioner afterwards and I would not recommend using this all the time too much as it can turn your hair purple or blue!

I read the reviews on here for Shimmer Lights last week, as I have blonde hair via full foil highlights every 10 weeks, and have been highlighting for about 3 years. I always tell my stylist I like it very light but recently either she has been leaving the foils on too long, or my hair is reacting weird, and although the color looks good, it sometimes looks yellowish in some spots, which I hate!

She suggested to me a toner for next time I come in, but she also said the toners are semi-perm colors and will probably wash out anyways, so I decided to look for other options. When I read the reviews for Shimmer Lights, I decided to give it a shot to brighten up the yellow spots in my highlighted hair. I first used the shampoo and conditioner on Friday, I shampood twice and then and mixed the conditioner with Redken Full Body Conditioner just because the shimmer lights one is not very creamy and I dont think it would be possible to comb thru my hair without something else. I noticed a slight difference in the tone, but nothing too crazy. On Sunday I shampood with my regular shampoo and conditioner and then this morning I used the shimmer lights again! THE YELLOW IN MY HIGHLIGHTS IS BASICALLY GONE!!! I AM IN LOVE WITH MY HAIR COLOR ONCE AGAIN!!

Thank god for this product! Now I can enjoy being blond again without the brassy yellow!! People have commented on the smell. In my opinion its not bad its not good... kinda like hand soap. Also, I would reccomend just using this every other time you wash so your hair doesnt get too too light or violet. Enjoy! This is a must buy!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE LOVE IT!!! I dyed my hair using Revlon Frost & Glow. I guess I didn't leave it as long and had made my hair turn orange and yellow. Did my research and mostly read the reviews here and VOILA I have normal hair again. I have to agree with most it is a little drying. I just added my conditioner with Shimmer's Conditioner and everything was fine. I didn't find the smell offensive at all. Will buy this again for sure.

I hated this shampoo and did not find it to work at all. Bear in mind that I have light brown hair and was hoping that this would reduce the brassy tones I sometimes get in the summer. If anything, this made the brassiness worse! And it made my hair look and feel very dry and seemed to make all my little split ends stand on end. Additionally (this may sound strange), it seemed to make my head/scalp feel hot and sweaty for quite some time after using it. Plus I did not like the smell (a chemically flower scent) and the shampoo in general had kind of a toxic feel to it. Sally's Beauty was kind enough to accept my return after once use. Not for me.

I dye my hair dark beige blonde. This shampoo controls my brassiness and makes my hair super sparkley. Since I'm not platinum I do have to use it more often. It doesn't make my hair too ashy or purple toned. The smell could be better and yes it's a bit drying but overall it's a life saver for toning orange/yellow.

I started getting gray back in my 20s and now my hair is VERY gray, just about white, actually, but I get a lot of compliments on it. I used to use a violet shampoo/conditioner duo from a home shopping channel that I liked a lot. When it was discontinued, I decided to look around for something comparable. That's when I started using Clairol's Shimmer Lights.

First of all, if you use it as directed, it's very subtle, but it does work to make gray or white hair look bright and luminous. For the life of me, I cannot understand what all the fuss is about the scent. I had to go back upstairs to open the bottles to take a whiff because I honestly don't know what all the kerfuffle is all about. It never bothered me at all, the shampoo or the conditioner.

One thing on the negative side I do have to add is that the conditioner doesn't work well. I add a squirt of my own favorite conditioner along with the Shimmer Lights conditioner and apply them together for the effects of the product and for decent conditioning. That seems to work for me. Another remedy to the non-conditioning aspect of Shimmer Lights conditioner is to use a leave in conditioner of your choice. I use either Mop or Terex Crema.
