Definately a try before you buy fragrance. On my skin this is a very grown up fruity oriental. Black fruits indeed reign supreme with a masculine base of vetiver, which I love. I agree with the pp that this is most certainly unisex and you can make it even more delicious by mixing it with Tobacco Vanille. It reminds me of Mauboussin without the Smokey note. Black Orchid is going to remain a winter favourite for me.

HORRIBLE on me. So excited to try it and thought it smelt interesting in the store..got the smallest bottle as it's quite expensive...so glad I did! This smells almost petrol-y on me! So so strong, masculine - could definitely work on a man. I want to like it so bad seeing as everyone else does but it also smells so old! At 20 I'd like to think I'm old enough to wear adult smells having moved on from anna sui etc but I feel ridiculous wearing this...I think it could smell really sexy on the right person (e.g. a man..?) but you'd have to have the persona/attitude to go with it (an interesting feature for a perfume!) I personally feel like it doesn't suit me at all but then I guess I'm more of a lancome hypnose/hugo boss deep red kinda gal...

Oh my..... This is the best parfume I have ever bought. EVER. And I am the biggest parfume freak I know - I have around 100 different bottles no kidding! I always buys parfumes but I have never used one up. It's a curse. But TF Black Orchid had a totally different effect on me - I went to Sephora and told myself "Malou, do not buy this one. You just bought a new Dior Miss Cherie 100ml EDP yesterday and you don't need another one" but when I tried it on I couldn't resist. I simply couldn't...
The smell is amazing and sooo soft and deep! At first it's a bit heavy but as it melts into your skin it gets soooo intense and so sexy. I've never been this happy with a scent before and I ended up buying the 100ml as I knew TF-BO would be my new scent!
If I could rate this any higher I would. It is soooo good and I got so many compliments while wearing this. It is amazing. I love it. I'm going to buy the 30ml to keep in my bag as all fragrances tend to last very short on my skin.. I applied it three hours ago and it still smells very nice but very little.
Did I mention that I love this???

Testing Black Orchid is quite an experience. This scent is Out Of This World. Much more extraterrestrial than Alien, much more captivating than Hypnotic Poison, much more addictive than Dior Addict. It's as original as Bvlgari Black or Womanity, only more wearable IMO.
I get mostly chocolaty gardenia and patchouli. And whiffs of citrus every now and then. From time to time I fear that an unexpected ugly note will show through but no, it's like standing at the edge of a cliff, you fear the fall but end up returning home safe... The drydown is longlastig but much more subtle than I expected, mostly vetiver and sandalwood. Now, I feel guilty for pointing out individual notes because this scent is all about a unique harmony between unidentified ingredients for me, breaking it down to pieces seems almost like an insult! All I know is that when I spray Black Orchid I just can't get the scent off my mind or my take my nose off my wrist - surrender is the only option under this spell...
It's a mystery that changes constantly, every time I try it I discover something new that I didn't get last time. It's not a ''good old familiar friend'' but a creature from another planet- I might never get it completely, always full of surprises and secrets! Black Orchid is so moving, can make you feel powerful, confident, queen of the world, dark evil lost soul, but also soft, tender, generous, full of love for life and new experiences, a sinner and a saint, has the power to make your head spin and right afterwards comfort you in absolutely no time! I don't know how they did it but when I wear Black Orchid I feel like I lived ten individual lives in 24 hr!
I adore Black Orchid. It draws attention just being herself. You shouldn't wear Black Orchid to please the crowd (it's too ''inhuman'' and ''strange'' to please everybody) but for your own pleasure. Black Orchid is one of the kind, doesn't impersonate anyone - she can only be herself and no excuses for that. It's the ultimate ''It's me, I'm here and I couldn't care less if you like me or not'' fragrance statement. And it might not be the most beautiful fragrance ever but it's THAT confidence and originality that makes Black Orchid so special and unforgettable.

For the longest time, I could not decide whether I liked or not Black Orchid. This perfume is STRONG, no more than 1 spray please. The first word that came into my mind (after Woaaaa!) is gourmand. It reminds me (in a nice way) of cooked coconut milk with chilis, kafir lime leaves, but at the same time a really strong bergamot in it, it is so hard to describe. I love it becos it is a VERY sexy scent, it makes me think of purple velvet curtains and a dark plush room with deep leather sofas and lots of sex in the air.... sorry I know I am starting to sound deviant here, it is just the way this perfume messes with my mind. On the other hand, the scent does not really mellow down at all, the whole time it is attacking my senses, distracting me, and occasionally I catch myself just gasping for fresh air. So I go into this love hate relationship with it. At the end, I concluded to myself, Black Orchid is like that very sexy bad bad boy I want so bad, but at the same time, I know it is bad for me, and maybe not even right for me, but heck I STILL want it.

For as long as I can remember I have loved perfume. I don't feel fully 'put together' until I have chosen my scent of the day, night, occasion etc. This is no random choice. Thought, most times subconscious while getting ready, goes into this process. Black Orchid edp is now part of my night time, I want to feel sexy and maybe sly, fragrance rotation. It was love at first whiff. The bottle is easy to handle and I like the ribbed feeling. It does though make me think that the contents should be some kind of tonic or secret elixir that creates part of this fragrance, not hold the end result. Black Orchid just radiates on my skin and this in return, makes me feel feline if you know what I mean. I may want or like the attention I am getting, but until you hear me purr, don't think for a minute that you caught me ;)

This is now my signature night time scent. I wouldn't recommend it for day use though. On my skin it develops really nicely. It's spicy, sweet and fruity all at the same time but I don't find it to be overwhelming which some Orientals can be. It is very strong, but I don't find that a problem. One spray (and walk through) and it's the perfect amount.
I love this perfume and men do too - I get compliments every time I wear it!

I am a very picky person when it comes to my fragrances. I cannot stand overly-sweet scents but I don't like scents that are too strong either. When I first took a whiff of the Tom Ford Black Orchid, I did not like it. It is a very strong smell BUT the smell becomes so beautiful as it wears down. I only SPRAY ONE SPRAY and I'll spread it onto my pulse points- any more than one spray and you will suffocate the people around you. I get SO many compliments whenever I wear this and I am on my second bottle, which for me IS HUGE! I agree with every other reviewer that explains Black Orchid as "sex in a bottle."

Black Orchid is a scent that lives up to its namesake, it's dark, dark, dark. It definitely fits the idea of a little black dress scent. If you plan on wearing this to church, to school, or to work—you're out of your mind. This is sex in a bottle, and you can't wear sex just anywhere!
There's something in Black Orchid that appeals to the animal part of my brain. I have a sample size bottle of this perfume—which is plenty enough for me—you don't need much. A few tiny dabs on each wrist and neck is enough. This is potent and sexy stuff, so take heed when applying. My first impression of Black Orchid is a rich, purple jam; dark, bitter chocolate; a true creamy coconut smell; orchids on a sweaty summer's night; and there's the deep, dark woods and a slightly salty musk underneath it all. I can't say that I've smelled anything else that's quite like Black Orchid; it's heady and intoxicating.

I loved this when it was first sprayed. It was complex, deep dark and unabashedly sexy. Then, as it developed, I picked up an unmistakeable marine accord. I loathe that synthetic marine accord. It was tremendously disappointing. I thought I had a bombshell oriental on my hands. Instead, I had Coolwater.
