This stuff saved my life after a horrible stint with Pantene Pro-V which made my hair fall out like mad. The shampoo and conditioner is the only one that thickens my hair, my hair feels so much healthier after more than 6 months of use. Plus it smells so good!

I really do LOVE this stuff! My hair falls out do to being hypothyroid, and this doesn't stop it, but my hair is THICKER, which, for me, is a very good, good thing, as I don't have hardly any hair at all! I leave this in and blow dry my hair, and it is SO much thicker than any gel or hair thickener that I've ever used! LOVE IT! I also like how the scent isn't too strong. My hair has never looked so clean, strong and healthy!

I used both the shampoo and the conditioner so I'm writing the same review for both, since I can't isolate whether one was more problematic than the other. This did NOTHING for my hair. Actually I shouldn't say that--it left my hair both greasy and dry in a cloud of frizz. It felt fine washing with it, and afterwards too--but once my hair dried naturally it was unpleasant. I would not use either again. I've always heard such great things about this cult product--to each her own I guess!

I'm truly in love with this product! I've been using it for about 4 months and my hair has been much stronger and so so so much thicker. It's originally used on horses and I know this first hand because I used to ride and compete. We used this on our horses, both the shampoo and conditioner. Their mane's and tails looked fabulous. It's protein based so I suggest that you alternate with a moisturizing sham/cond. Because too much protein is bad for your hair. it smells...like a soap. haha. with a tiny bit of fruit scent to it. it makes your hair superrrr shiny! i love it! And it's not one of those sham/cond that works for the first time, its definietly long term. I'll be using this forever! thanks.

I was initially drawn to Mane 'n Tail Conditioner in junior high when there was an urban myth circulating about its ability to make hair grow long.
A giant bottle of the conditioner is inexpensive, and it seems to work wonders when it comes to conditioning. My hair is thick and wavy, and tends to tangle easily. My hair really feels well moisturized after using Mane 'n Tail! I wouldn't purchase this product for its scent, but it really does a great job at conditioning my coarse hair.
This conditioner seems to coat the hair after many uses, thus it would be good to do a vinegar rinse or a clarifying shampoo.

I had a medium length hair style and I really wanted to grow it out. It was by my ear lobe and now its to my shoulders! Yes! I started using Pantene Beautiful Lengths shampoo about two months ago along with Mane and Tail conditioner. Holy crap this is the most moisturizing conditioner out there!! It comes in a huge bottle though. And the bottle is cheap looking. But there is so much product in this 32 oz bottle! Its full! I buy mine at Walmart (the only place that I found has it) for $6. Its weird using a horse conditioner but Hey it works!!!
(^_^)
I will repurchase.

I'm really surprised that I like this line of shampoo & conditioner! Especially as varied as the reviews are. Like someone just below me said that they too have fine, naturally curly hair and hate it. I have the same, but my hair LOVES it!!!
Pros:
*Easy to find
*Inexpensive
*Comes in a HUGE bottle
*Smells nice - like shampoo/soap mixed with a tiny bit of apple or fruit or something
*Can be used as a rinse out and a leave-in
Cons:
*Only comes in a huge bottle - which kept me from trying it sooner
*The bottle is ugly and cheap looking
I've also read/heard the claims that it helps your hair to grow in faster. I don't know about that, but I can say that I used henna on my hair about 4-5 weeks ago and I already have at least 1 inch of new roots.... Not sure if it's from the shampoo & conditioner or massaging my scalp with EVOO & castor oil, but I'm gonna keep it up.
I LOVE this as a rinse out and a leave-in. It gives my hair the big, shiny, chunky curls that I always wanted without making my hair dry(like gel does) or poofy(like cones do) or stringy(like something with harder hold or heavier ingredients). It seems to melt right into my hair if I apply it while my hair is about 60-70% dry. I braid it and let it air dry, or I just leave it loose. My hair is very happy. It's even gotten rid of the little tangles that I ALWAYS seem to get at the ends of my hair. This makes my hair smooth, silky, shiny, defined, and smells nice until the next time I wash it. And I really like the way this smells too. It's a nice, light, natural kind of clean scent. Not overly fruity or chemical smelling.
I would repurchase.
And if you aren't sure if this would work for you, I guess you could either try little samples or get it when it's on sale. If it doesn't work for you, you could always donate it to a women's shelter or some family/friends.
Edited to add: If your bottle of conditioner smells "bad" then you probably have an old bottle and should take it back to the store for an exchange. A new bottle of conditioner smells like the shampoo - clean with a touch of fruit. An old bottle will be losing it's perfume because it has such a small amount. It will end up smelling like the conditioner chemicals and lanolin. If you have ever smelled lanolin you'll know it doesn't smell too good. lol So that is what you're smelling and you should exchange it. Best of luck! :-)

I don't see what all the fuss is about, it did nothing for my hair, it didn't make it silky smooth and it didn't make it dry either, my hair was just dull. Its not great but its also not terrible.

The best part about this is the amount of product you get. I use a lot of conditioner because my hair is tangled from working out. After that, it is nothing special. I like my hair to feel soft and smell nice- this doesn't really do either. I bought it because it was buy-one-get-one-free, so it was a great deal. I will use it until it runs out, but I probably won’t buy it again because other products work better.

Despite all the great reviews, this was horrible on my fine, naturally curly hair. Did NOT add any volume, left a residue on my hair, actually took the curl out of my hair! Left my hair dry too. It might work on a horses thick wiry mane and tail but Not on naturally curly fine hair. Yuck!!

WARNING!!!
For me, this DESTROYED my hair!...it made it so dry that my originally sleek think shiny hair became like...a squiggly line on a peice of paper. I can feel the twists and rough breakage when I run my hands through my hair and I've developed a bad habit of pulling hair out because it just destroyed my hair....considering shaving my head and wearing wigs...

Mehh, its ok. This conditioner keeps my hair shiny and bouncy, but after I rinse it out of my hair, it seems dry like straw, but when my hair is done drying its fully hydrated. I've only noticed this with the Mane n Tail, but I love love love the shampoo. The bottle lasts forever, and is super cheap, but I'm going to something different after I run out.

This weighed down my baby fine hair, but I love it for conditioning makeup brushes (some of them are pony hair, anyways =) ) after washing! Keeps them so soft, and it smells nice. I did transfer the contents to a pump bottle for easier dispensing, but will buy again.

I LOVE this conditioner! First I tease my hair a lot, so trying to untangle my hair is a big issue. Also this conditioner is sort of watery in my opinion, but it ALWAYS untangle my hair, and on top of that it leaves my hair really soft and smooth. I have notice less split end and what not. I was talking to my friend the other day about MANE N TAIL in general. And she told me she hated it, and it was a big shock to me. So I asked her which one she had and she bought all the other type they had .. so I told her to just by the ORIGINAL shampoo and conditioner .. and now she loves it. Maybe that's why people are having mix review. But I think everyone should try out this product at least once, because I really think it's a wonderful product and for the price of it .. I don't think you have much to lose.

It doesn't come in a pretty package, nor does it smell fantastic, but boy does it work wonders! And you get a great deal with such a huge bottle for only about $6 or $7!
With other conditioners, I had to use them extremely sparingly and only on the tips of my hair, otherwise my head would be practically swimming in grease the next day. However, with this, I can use huge goobers of the stuff all over my hair - roots included! - and (as long as I rinse it out completely) my hair is absolutely wonderful! It doesn't completely solve my hair's dry/frizzy look, I'm assuming that's because my hair is just too damaged and it's past the point of no return. However, this really helps. It keeps it soft, it never makes my hair greasy, and my hair has been feeling stronger lately since using this along with the shampoo.
In the shower, I use a generous amount all over my hair, especially concentrating it on the ends, and then clip my hair up while I finish the rest of my shower. Then after a few minutes, I rinse it out. After my shower, while my hair is still damp, I rub a small dab through my palms, then smooth it on the ends of my hair as a leave-in conditioner. The next morning when I straighten my hair, I spray on this (I mixed some with a small spray bottle full of water, shook it up until it was completely blended) as a heat protectant and it does seem to help a bit from heat damage from my straightener.

I am SHOCKED that I love this conditioner so much! I used to think the Mane n Tail line was totally silly and poor quality, so I never gave it much thought. But I was looking through Sally's conditioners and found the 'original' conditioner had some great ingredients! I am SO glad I bought this - it's now one of my top favorite hair products. First of all, my hair is super fine and easily weighed down. This actually gives me body and absolutely improved the appearance of my damaged mid-length-to-ends upon one use. I put it on the length, shampoo my roots, rinse, then reapply and sit 3-5 minutes. I always use a bit as a leave-in on towel-dried hair as it's so light. I've been having good hair days every time I do this- LOVE!

This is a good conditioner that does something no conditioner has been able to do so far - it doesn't weigh my hair down! Its not as soft as it is with other conditioners, but it doesn't look as greasy and flat too, so the good outweighs the bad for me.
I also noticed that my hair has a lot less split ends with this, even though I dramatically increased my heat styling recently. It stands up to its promise of protecting hair. I put some in a spray bottle mized with water to spray before heat styling too, just because I really CAN see this is making a difference.
Took one lippy off because it doesn't do much shine wise, otherwise brilliant product!

This is a fantastic conditioner! I really like the price (around $7 for a huge bottle) and the smell. Unlike a lot of other conditioners on the market that have really fruity or perfumey scents, this one is very light and tolerable, I enjoy getting a whiff of it now and then when I flip my hair over the shoulder. I have used this on and off for the last 4 years. I keep coming back to it because it's reliably good conditioner. However, I have noticed that if you don't rinse out your hair really well (preferably with cooler water) it'll feel greasy or like there's a slight residue at the scalp, weighing your hair down. I like that it's great for pretty much all hair types (indeed, I even use this on my super fluffy Great Pyrenees dog, and he looks fantastic!).

This is a great cheap conditioner for dry or chemically treated hair. I can be slightly waxy depending on what other kinds of products you use. I would not recommend this to someone with oily or fine hair because it will make your hair feel heavy. It is yellow with a different kind of smell. It does not contain silicones but it does have collagen and lanolin which my be a problem for those with sensitive scalps.
