Kyoto is a beautiful cool wintery incense scent, spiritual and calming. The coffee note gives it an "urban" touch.

(note: my original review gave this a two out of five, but I've upped that because it smells GREAT on a man!) Hmmmmmmmm...I'm NOT a fan of girly, floral flowerbucket scents, just not my thing. I *am* a fan of incensey scents, so I assumed this would be right up my alley, but t'was not to be! Kyoto is 100% masculine on me...and I LIKE (and often wear) unisex scents. But Kyoto screams MAN and only MAN...as wrong on me as if a guy was walking around with gardenia and rose perfume. I should mention that after several hours, it mellowed into a warmer, more unisex scent. Its lasting power was average to light, and much less than its stronger-scented cousin, Avignon. I'm definitely going to splash the rest of the sample on my husband and smell away, cuz I have a sneaking suspicion I would like this scent on a male of the species.
UPDATE: I was right! This smells amazing on a man, yum yum!

I received Kyoto in swap (thanks to victofiaf), and much to my delight, this fragrance smells just as though I'd imagined it. My first impression was that it was like a more modern, warmer Messe de Minuit, and since MdM is one of my favorites, Kyoto fits right in with my stash!

Kyoto was the first of the Incense line that i tried (thanks to manon). I rather liked this one myself. It had a fresh cedar-smelling scent about it that deepened into a soft, incense fragrance. I wore it to a party and was rather liking it until several people told me that I smelled like a gerbil cage. One girl was careful to point out that I made her think of a CLEAN gerbil cage, but still... Maybe this is not the one for me.

This fragrance is without a doubt going to be my favorite of the line. It reminded me of Avignon, but not such a 'hard' incense scent. The scent itself is rather dry and mysterious. This scent evokes images of warmth and comfort. It is how you would expect old books and antiques shops to smell. There is a captivating and mystical quality to it. It reminds me of Cherugi by Serge Lutens, only more pronounced. This is a strong and deep incense scent that, while it smells like incense, has a warm feminine quality to it, a feat that is not easy to accomplish in my opionion. This is definitlely a winter or fall scent (and I am not usually one to discriminate), but I think that on a rainy November day, with a hot tea in your hand and an umbrella in the other, this scent will complement and heighten the experience perfectly! I will definitley purchase.
