I received a sample in Sephora's waterproof Lash Stash set.

I like this mascara because it's extremely black, one of the deepest mascaras I've seen. It lengthens and holds a curl well (usually; for some reason, 10% of the time the curl uncurls, but that's probably due to the way I apply it). I don't notice too much volume. But the overall effect is definitely dramatic.

It defines the lashes because of how intense the pigment is, but not because of how it applies. It actually applies goopily, unevenly, and spidery, which I blame on the brush and how much mascara it picks up. But this problem is fixed by running a metal lash comb through the lashes.

This mascara also smudges unless I apply a coat of Clarins Double Fix over it, but I have to do this for almost every mascara I use. It does last the whole day and only starts smudging after a long time (like 10 hours).

I have short, straight Asian lashes.

Pros:
Not clumpy
Lengthens/darkens..

Cons:
Burns! Really burns when I wash my face if any gets in or around my eyes.
Super hard to take off- you'll take off several lashes in the process- and those take forever to grow back...

I think a good mascara needs to cater to sensitive eyes, there's no point of having long black lashes if you also have red watery eyes... right?

I got this as a deluxe sample from Sephora. It has a nice brush and makes my lashes look good, but smears and smudges like crazy. Not worth it for the price, would not purchase it.

Figured MUPE wouldn't smudge, but it did on me. Definitely thickens, a bit on the heavy side and sometimes will take out my curl. Major raccoon eyes with this mascara. Too bad, I love the blackness of the formula.

Goes on well, but smudges off slowly throughout the day. Not a full-on raccoon eye, looks more like I got sloppy with my mascara and never bothered to wipe it off. Not a fun look.

I got this product in a sample size that came free at Sephora. I normally use drugstore mascaras and am satisfied with my L'Oreal Voluminous or L'Oreal Collagen mascara, both of which are around $7. I recently went traveling and ran out of my usual mascara, and remembered that I had this Smoky Lash stuff. My first impression of it is that the formula is quite thick, which is good for building volume. It goes on dark and glossy, which I like. It made my lashes look thick, dark, and long. However as other reviewers have mentioned, this mascara can be clumpy. Also, after building a couple layers it made my lashes look spidery (gross). I did not have much smudging below my eyes - I only wore it for 4 hours. The sample I got is the waterproof version. The mascara did not come off with my cleanser (which normally removes makeup), so I used an oil-free makeup remover (drugstore brand) to remove the residue and washed my face again. It did not come off easily at all. My only concern with this mascara is that it requires a lot of work to get it off completely. Even with all the makeup-remover and re-washing, the following morning I had a bit of residue on my lashes and below my eyes. For that reason, I will not be purchasing the full size. Maybe the original formula is easier to remove, but I have not tried it. I'll be sticking to my drugstore mascaras.

This product gives great length, volume and really does hold curl for hours. Downside- It is hard to remove and generally takes a decent amount of eye makeup remover or makeup towels to completely get it off.

I was so excited when this mascara came out, because I’d heard great things about Smokey Lash. Then they made it waterproof? Even better. THE GOOD: it’s highly pigmented, very shiny, and adds great length. I love a beautiful dramatic look! THE BAD: Waterproof? Maybe. But it’s not comfortable to wear. It dries quickly and sometimes irritates my eyes. THE UGLY: Clumps, clumps, and more clumps! Even with one simple coat, you cannot avoid them. It would really be a beautiful mascara if it didn’t clump. But because it does, I can’t wear this. Perhaps next year, MUFE will re-release and improve upon the formula.

I'm torn between 3 or 4 lippies for this product, so I'll list the pros and cons, and you can decide yourself what it's worth.

PROS:
-Gives very dramatic volume
-Gives very dramatic length
-->the two of these pros create very full and false lashes-like effect
-Doesn't weigh down my lashes

CONS:
-Clumpy...I'm constantly having to comb out the clumps, which takes longer that putting on my other make up
-Not waterproof. I need to wipe beneath my eyes all the time.
-Only creates the dramatic effect when I use in conjunction with another mascara. When used alone, it just gets VERY clumpy.

This mascara needs to be used with a very light hand, otherwise you'll be spending a LOT of time fixing spiderlegs. Just the fact that it gives the dramatic effect is why I like and continue using this mascara. I won't be purchasing this again after it runs out though.

Holds a curl all day long...but I can't for the life of me remove it. I use water proof makeup remover (Sephora, Shiesido and Bliss) and the traces of mascara are still there. I feel like it takes forever to go off so I won't be buying this again! Original one is MUCH better!

If I could give this a 5 just for how it makes my lashes look, I would. It holds a curl well, and gives great volume and length. There are some drawbacks though... First of all, it takes a while to dry and when applying to my bottom lashes I have to look up and wave my hands to air dry them faster, otherwise.... Instant raccoon eyes. (Same goes for the top lashes and looking down. I do have very long, naturally curled lashes though.) After a couple hours of wear, there is smudging under my eyes. Even if I have not touched, rubbed, sweat, slept, anything... There is. There has been no helping it for me except for wearing a smoky eye so that it is not apparent Its not bad because its not too far underneath the eye, just closer to the base of the lashes, but still. After being active however... you will have smudged, raccoon eyes. I have no idea why this happens!! What is even more frustrating is how difficult it is to remove. I feel like I have lost half the product onto my skin, but then there is still so much left and its a pain to remove. I have to be tactful while using a good waterproof eye makeup remover to ensure full removal. Even then I must rely a bit on when I wash my face.

But I have learned something. When used sparingly, the raccoon eyes are greatly reduced (it will still happen though; it did to me anyway) and I still have beautiful dark, lush, long lashes. Remember how I just mentioned that there is so much product on my face and someone still so much on my lashes?! Well that's because I laid it on thick. Be sparing with this and it will be ok. It still will not hold up as a waterproof mascara as well as some others I'm sure (this is honestly the first waterproof one I've used), but it will look great for a day at work, shopping, etc. (Just don't be super active.)

So I have a love/hate with this mascara. Love what it does to the lashes, hate its removal and the fact that its not really waterproof or close to being smudge-proof. In the end, I'd probably not buy this again (I didn't buy it to begin with it was a gift).

Smoky Lash's waterproofness did not hold up for me. I had no problems with clumping or flaking and it lengthened very well. But, after a 3 mile run and just a bit of sweat I had racoon eyes. A run is always my acid test to see if mascara will hold up for a long, hot, sweaty horse show which is a must for me. Sadly, this one didn't make the cut. For everyday, non-sports wear it might work, but I have plenty of those so back to Sephora it goes.

This is the first HE mascara i've tried that I actually liked! I've tried others from Clinique, Lancome, MAC, Benefit, Estee Lauder etc... and after trying them all I always go back to Maybelline Full n Soft waterproof. That one always worked much better for me. Well surprisingly this one is pretty awesome! I probably won't buy it all the time, just when I feel like splurging. I wouldn't say that it necessarily works better than the Maybelline one but it does work just as good. Which means, yes I will most likely buy again, but I'll probably buy Maybelline a couple times before I get this again. One thing though, I find this is much harder to remove. Usually I can just use Neutrogena fresh foaming cleanser to remove makeup, but that doesn't completely remove this mascara. I have to use an actual eye makeup remover instead. Bottom line: Great mascara, holds curl, looks beautiful!

I didn't expect to love this at all, but I do! The formula I actually like better than the original smoky lash, it makes my lashes long, full and pretty after one good coat. I happened to be in Sephora when this product first launched and asked the SA if there was a sample, she cracked a brand new one open for me so I wasn't afraid to use the wand. I never usually use mascara in the stores, gross!, and the cheapo disposible ones take away from the wand intented for that mascara...Anyway, I loved it right away and bought one. Wore 2 coats that night to the gym. After working out and 10 laps in the pool I only had the slightest smudgies under my eyes. But more important than that is that my lashes still looked awesome!! Another thing I love is that it dries quick once you apply so you don't have to wait to blink. So, yes, this is good stuff and I def. recommend it to active types or anyone that wants a last-through-anything mascara. I love it. It's $22.

Update- I've been using it for 2 weeks or so now and it still hasn't disappointed! My HG mascara, I believe! :)
