I've been wanting a subtle blue mascara for a while and it was a toss up between this & Benefits blue badgal. I went for this as it's cheaper & I've always been a fan of Bourjois mascara & products in general :D
I'm so glad I did! The blue is very subtle but is noticeable enough. It looks great with blue eyeliner too.
The brush is superb, it separates & lengthens lashes amazingly. I have short sparse lashes & was very impressed with the results, it even earned me a compliment off a lady in a shop :D
It does give the liner effect but so do all mascaras if used in the right way.
It didn't flake off in the day at all. It was quite hard to get off at the end of the day but I don't mind that.
Would defo buy this again :D

Great mascara! I didn't hesitate to buy this because Bourjois mascaras happen to be my fave. This is an excellent mascara and is selling very fast at my work place, Ulta. I also wanted to see if it worked well enough for me to sell, low and behold..it makes me happy so I def sell a lot of these to customers. This is another 2 step mascara. It has a plastic comb brush, one side has tiny short bristles, the other longer. From reading the reviews I tried doing the short side first, then long and vice versa. What I find gives me the best results is doing the long side first, then short side..I go over it twice doing these steps.

Pros:It gives very long, thick lashes. It does create that effect that you have top liner on, but I still always wear my winged liner.

-Non-clumping

Cons: It isn't waterproof so if you tear up or cry, black streaks run down your face.

-It's very difficult to get off completely.

I really like this mascara, but volume clubbing still is my number one!

I really wanted this to be my HG mascara, I really did. Since I am all thumbs when it comes to eyeliner the idea of a mascara that gives an eyeliner effect was almost to good to be true! I have to say I love the way this mascara makes my Asian eyes look. Not only do I get volume as well as noticeable length, but I think it does give me an eyeliner look without the eyeliner. As pleased as punch as I am with the results, it smudges throughout the day, didn't even go through half the day before smudging. And removing the product is a bit of a pain as it takes a lot of makeup remover before coming off and even that isn't a guarantee that it is completely off.
UPDATE: Even though I started using other mascaras to replace this, I couldn't bring myself to get rid of this mascara because I really like the way it made my lashes looked. So I took a chance and paired it with Shishedo Mascara Base and OMG - what a huge difference! I will definitely be keeping this as my HG mascara. The Mascara Base takes the smudging away completely, which was the main problem I was having with the mascara. Now I can wear it without any issue of panda eyes. I also found that using Extra Virgin Olive Oil makes it easier taking it off as well. So now I am super excited that I have found my HG mascara! Yay!

I'm so happy I finally bought this mascara. I am thinking of stocking up already because it's been a while since I was so much satisfied with a mascara. But I am using it for a week only, so it is a bit early to assign an HG status. Anyway, for reference, I have decent but blond lashes. They are almost invisible when I don't wear anything on them. Being thick, it was difficult to cover them all without a special brush and blond bits would pick out. It was very annoying. This mascara does the trick - it finds every single lash I have and covers them completely. Yay! The result is incredible. I had no idea that my eyes could be that pretty! :D
Pros: Very lengthening; volumizing without clumps after several coats (I noticed that the more I brush, the better it spreads evenly over lashes); perfect for those with blond lashes (this mascara covers from the very roots); even after several coats and giving volume, this mascara doesn't look to "built up"; there is a nice color range (I'm using brown color which doesn't appear brown like in the tube after application but isn't as intense as black one - just perfect for a redhead)
Cons: As others mentioned, this will smudge all over lids! But that's the price you pay for finding all those hiding lashes in eye corners. It is also "liquidy" which can be annoying at first but I'm getting used to such consistency. It may flake if you apply too much.

I first tried using the short bristles first and then the long ones, but I noticed that I end up with having too much mascara applied to the roots. Now, I just use the long bristle part and like the results better. Just don't give up too quick and try using it different ways - I'm sure you will find your own technique.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the look it gives! I will update after using this mascara for a longer time.

I love this mascara!!!
I must say that it is a pleasure to use this mascara for me.
I look forward to putting this on every morning!!
The main reason is that it is so comfortable for me to apply and wear this mascara the whole day. It doesn't irritate my eyes at all.
I'm not sure why but popular lancome and l'oreal mascaras make my eyes itch the whole day and i can't wait to remove them from my lashes.
It could be that these contain fibres that fall into my eyes, whereas this bourjois one has a different formula that doesn't contain fibres.
It is an inky dark watery black mascara that looks like liquid eyeliner that coats lashes thinly but nicely.
my each lash even has a nice tapered shape like in the mascara ads.
I have almond shaped asian eyes and straight lashes that don't curl much. the small bristled brush wand reaches every lash easily and doesn't poke into my eyes. application is much faster and cleaner, no mess.
the result is a clean look with dark smooth elegant looking lashes.

Price: I bought it recently - its two pounds off in Boots!! (lol!!), so I thought it was quite reasonably priced for a mascara. It's half the price of my Bad Gal Lash, and it is about the same as my Define-a lash mascara.

My view: I looove this mascara. In my opinion, it doesn't really volumize your lashes - not as much as my Bad Gal Lash.. But it is very pigmented, and very lengthening. One coat is enough to give me long lashes. If i were to put two coats, my lashes will actually become super long!!!

And it gives you the innocent wide eyed look (probably due to the liner effect part) and at the same time really darken your lashes!! I totally love it!! I wore it yesterday when I had an encounter with my crush, and it felt so great looking at him through my long dark lashes.. lol!!

the only problem is that i ALWAYS poke myself with the brush :( I wished it was at least waterproof so that the tears do not cause the mascara to run.. and it does take while for the mascara to dry :P :P So make sure you have loads of cotton buds when putting it on!!!

Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend it to get the all innocent look.. And I would definitely repurchase!!

btw, I'm asian - quarter chinese and the rest southeast asian.. but i have quite curled lashes, thanks to my southeast asian blood!! so I don't find the need to curl, cause I think it looks too artificial.

One of my favourite mascaras. I use the longer brush side, to elongate the tips of my eyelashes after applying another mascara. Really gets to the hard to reach lashes, and makes my eyelashes look spectacular.

I bought this because I saw the advert and it looked really good ! I thought it might be a bit expensive for the brand but I bought it anyway. I got home and tried it on. At first I thought it was a bit watery but I liked the high pigmentation of it. I still haven't figured out how to get the "liner effect" that its supposed to give - can anyone help ? But I would buy it again.

Packaging - very chunky and bulky, but if you're used to Lancome, it's no worse. The brush is interesting - it's got rubbery little spikes only they're different lengths. One side is short, and the other side is long.
Didn't really notice a smell about it. I've been using it for the past week or so and love how dramatic it looks on. It's quite a wet mascara and takes a little while to dry - try not to blink hard while that's happening.
Thanks to the number of coats I trowel on, it can clump a bit, but Tweezerman Lash comb fixes that up in a jiffy. The first few times I used this mascara by curling the lashes first, then wiggling and twisting it on (starting with the short bristles against the base of the lashes, then zigzagging slightly while rotating the brush so that the long bristles brush the tips of my lashes) only to find the curl wilted after all that effort. :( To get around that, I use the Maybelline Volum' Express Lift-Up first, then apply this one. Layering different mascaras works a treat!
Taking it off is a right royal PITA. With other mascaras, one cotton pad soaked with eye makeup remover (I like the half-half ones like L'Oreal's), does the trick. No, not this one. This one likes to hang around needs more effort to get rid of evidence. A lotta hassle for everyday, but worth the effort for those days when you just have to have that doe-eyed look.

Just one coat of this wonder mascara gives you volume, a strong colour & two coats gives you that full on, false eyelash look. Perfect for making a statement.

Because the shape of the brush makes the colour go to the base of your lashes, you don’t need eyeliner. Start at the base with the half of the brush with the shorter bristles, as you stroke towards the ends of your lashes twist the brush round so you finish with the longer bristles. Easy.

The wear is good (no flakes or smudges) & the price is OK (£8.50).

However, I have one issue; EFFET LINER is a pain to remove. Even so, this is my favourite mascara at the minute. Could it become a HG? Time will tell.

I bought this as it looked fabulous on the advert. I must admit i was a bit dubious about the 'eyeliner' claim but i went out and purchased it anyway.
Initially i thought the brush looked a bit too comb like, as i prefer bushier brushes that you can work the product into your eyelashes with. When i first tried it the mascara was really runny and went everywhere. I found it really hard to control. I decided to use a bit of tissue to wipe the wand with and then it went on alot easier, i did have to apply quite a few layers to get the desired effect. The black is lovely and intense and made my eyes pop. So over-all i found this mascara to have good and bad points equally. It just depends what your looking for in a mascara (colour/brush/consistency etc) I would like to add that this isnt a mascara you can swipe and go, you need to take a bit of time to apply it properly or it will smudge everywhere. I don't think i will be buying this product again as it wasnt anywhere near my idea of a HG mascara. I think i prefer bristle type mascara wands to these fiddly plastic comb ones.

I love this mascara - one of my favourites so far. There is something about this mascara that makes my eyes look so dramatic. Not sure if it gives me a liner effect but it definitely lengthens and separates my eyelashes in a very dramatic fashion. The brush is great too - one side is longer than the other so by rotating it you never miss a lash and the mascara formula never clumps on the lashes. Love it, love it, love it.

Not a bad mascara although I find the brush quite stiff and can be painful on the eyes (if your like me and tend to poke yourself in the eye often with mascara wands). Liner effect?? well I'm not sure about that it just lookes like I have smudged mascara on my eye lids. It did give nice volume after about 4 hours it did tend to smudge a bit but over all its not a bad mascara. I would re purchase as I have found better mascaras with a longer staying power.

Well I had my eyes on this mascara for about a month; it hasn't been reviewed yet, probably because it's new, so I was a bit reluctant to invest in it. Finally I gave in yesterday and got it in purple.
Now what this promises to do, is create the illusion that you have used eye liner in the inside rim of your upper lashes, hence give you "a perfect doe eyed look" (as is stated on the container). Quite an attractive prospect to me, as I' m always looking for things that help make my eyes look wider (I happen to find them somewhat small), plus I find eyeliner fussy to use, especially in my upper rim. And well I have to say this DOES work after all. Yay:-)))
The brush is actually double sided; one side has very short spikes, while the other has long ones. You are obviously supposed to use it in two steps: first you use the long spikes to put on the mascara as you normally would, and then you use the short spikes to apply the mascara to the very roots of your lashes, which is actually what is supposed to create the liner effect.
Now, on to how it performed; I actually really, seriously liked it. And I liked it a lot. First of all, the actual mascara did not clump at all and seperated my lashes perfectly well. The first step didn't give any dramatic volume or length; just nice, perfectly seperated, soft, defined lashes. However the second step is the whole deal. Using the short spikes on the roots really made that particular part of my lashes look much thicker; the result was indeed the illusion of me having used eyeliner, therefore my eyes looked wider and almond shaped, which is exactly what I' m always trying to achieve. Also no flaking or smudging. I was pretty much wowed.
The container is a bit bulky but ok; the price is fine with me (€ 15 here); not the cheapest available, not expensive either. Color selection is quite interesting; where I usually shop, apart from the purple one I got, black, brown, blue and green were also available.
I would honestly have given this five lippies, if it wasn't for this small drawback; the purple doesn't really look very purple on my lashes; you could mistake it for plain black any day.
All in all ladies I don't recommend this if you are going for the x12 volume kind of thing. But if you want the wide-eyed, almond shaped, defined look, make sure you give this mascara a try ASAP.
* U P D A T E* After having used this a lot, I have, too, found that the best way to apply is to start using the short spikes on the base of the lashes first, and then go on and use the long ones all over the lashes. That way you do get incredible volume and thickness besides the wide eyed look. And I have to add, this takes time and care to do without poking your eye, but the results are so worth it.
