I'm a first time buyer of CS, and so far I'm liking their products; including this stippling brush. I have many different brands of brushes (MAC, Chanel, Sephora, etc.). This brush really does a good job at applying liquid foundation. In addition, it works just as good as my MAC 187 which gives off that airbrush look!!! Still flawless. Only thing is I hated the shipping, way too long. Other than that, good stuff
***Update 5/06/2009***
I've decided to knock off more lippes (gave it a 4 in the beginning). After months of use, I'm beginning to regret purchasing brushes and makeup from CS. Yes, this brush is very cheap in comparison to MAC's 187 brush, but beware of CHEAP. I've been putting this brush to the ultimate test, just as I did with my MAC 187. First off, the brushes are starting to separate (if that makes sense?), it has lost its density, and I can't get it to STOP SHEDDING; no matter what I do or how and what I wash it with. With this being said, this brush comes off just as great as MAC or any other high end designer brushes. However, wait until you have used it over and over again, it doesn't stand up at all. If you want quality, you will need to pay for quality products. If you want quantity vs. quality; this is exactly what you get! I don't think I'll be shopping at CS ever. What a waste, save your money on the shipping and handling to get yourself a REAL Quality brush!!!!

This is my review of the c.s. stippling brush with the black handle. No, this isn't a dupe of the 187 brush and I'm not going to compare the two -- if you want the exact results of the 187 then you'll need to get the 187. Back to the c.s. brush: Bottom line, it does a fabulous job for me. Maybe I lucked out, but my brush almost never sheds, didn't smell at all even before I washed it, and only bled dye on the very first wash. After reading as many reviews as I could find on this brush, I made sure to give it two extremely thorough washes on two separate days before it ever touched my face. It did shed a lot on the first wash but now I may get 1-2 hairs when washing it or nothing at all.
It stipples on my liquid foundation nicely and blended very, very evenly. If you're going from using makeup sponges for your liquid foundation to this, you'll be very pleased with the results a stippling brush will give you. My brush never shed on my face. It is also quite soft. My experience has been very pleasant. My only negative: It's a pretty long brush so if you get too close to your mirror the handle bumps into it. That gets annoying. Again, I know my results aren't typical, but so far I really like this brush. If I run into any problems I will update this.
*EDIT* one month of usage later and still, absolutely NO problems. It never even sheds a little bit when washing anymore. I LOVE this brush!!!!
*EDIT 2* I caved in and got the Mac 187 brush since it was on sale a couple months ago, so now I only use this for blush & highlighting. The 187 really IS superior, BUT I still recommend this as an alternative vs. a makeup sponge or flat foundation brush.

This is the only brush I wouldn't purchase from CS again but it served a purpose. I didn't want to shell out the $$$ for the Mac one until I knew if I liked it or not and I could never find the SK dupe in Target so I ordered this one. The only real problem I have is the shedding. I end up with fur face every time I use it. It did bleed some blue/black dye the first time I washed it but I made sure to get it all out. I'll keep using it down to the last hair (which may not be long) and then replace it with something better.

I have both the Black and the Pink Duo Fiber Stippling brushes, and I am liking them so far. They did shed a little when I first washed them, but they are shedding less and less each time (the black shed way more than the pink). The Black handled stippling brush is way more dense than the Pink handled one. So I use the black one for foundation and the pink one for my bronzer. They both work really well and are really soft. I'm definitely going to get the 187 and the 188 and compare them. I would say that they are a great starting brush to get if you are new to the world of makeup.
UPDATE: I don't like the black handled brush. It's way too flimsy for liquid foundation. If I were to recommend the black or the pink handled brush, I would go with the pink handled duo fibered stippling brush. It gives a way better stippling/air brushed effect with foundation.

I actually like it. It works for me. The hairs are soft and doesn't poke or feel scratchy on my skin. It doesn't shed on my face and I barely see any shedding when I wash it. Maybe it does shed but I don't notice any when I wash it or drying it. It's the only thing I use now to put on my Mac SFix fluid foundation. It gives me that airbrush non cakey feel/look w/o any streaking. I just wish they made the handle shorter like the MAC LE D/F brush.

I wanted to love this brush, so bad.
Maybe the reason behind so many 'good' reviews on this is due to the fact that this may be their first stippling brush.
I have MAC 187 & it is way better.
The CS one's is too flimsy, it sheds alot & when you wash it, the dye comes out (bluish-black)
Then again, this brush would be great for beginners/for their first stippling brush.

I've never used the 187, but hoped this would fall close. Unfortunately, it sheds and bleeds nonstop, making me afraid to wash it each time, and the black fibers are not as dense as I would like them to be. With that said, it still works better than my normal foundation brushes with liquid foundation, and I'd choose it over them any day. However, I'm sure that there are better duo fiber stippling brushes out there. I suppose I'll just have to wait and save up for the 187. For now, this is nice, but for the quality, I won't buy it again.

I think this is a fairly good brush for the price. The handle is longer than the MAC 187, which was a problem for me since I stand really close to the mirror when applying my foundation. The long handle kept hitting the mirror. It did shed moderately when I washed it the first time and excess dye came out of the hairs. The white part is longer than the MAC 187, which makes it less firm. I actually cut off a little bit of the white part to make it shorter and that actually helped a LOT with performance. Trimming the top made it much firmer. Overall, I thought this was a pretty good brush for the price after I did my little modification to it, but I do prefer the MAC 187 over the Coastal Scents. If you can save up for the 187, do it!

I was looking for a cheaper alternative to 187 like many others. To my disappointment, this brush is poorly constucted. Despite many washes, it still sheds alot, maybe less than initial stage but it definitely still shed its fair share. The colour runs as well where I can see my water turning black as I wash it and staining my kitchen towel blue as it dries. It is not as dense as I hope it will be. I only used this for applying blush so application wise it is still passable but I will definitely save up for my 187 soon.

My goodness do I love this brush! Apply my liquid foundation with this brush and the results are awesome compared to using sponge application. It did shed at first, but after few washes it's good to go! Def re-purchase, but hate the shipping from CS. Took 1 lippe off due to this.

Like most people I bought this brush hoping it would be a cheaper alternative to the 187. I didnt like it right off the bat. I was not achieving the "airbrushed" look everyone was talking about. Since then I purchased the 187 and now I know why the coastal scents one does not even compare with the real deal. This brush is not dense enough to be able to stipple anything. The white "fiber" part is considerably longer than the 187 as well. This prevents u from stippling foundation on your face and youre basically mopping the foundation on the surface of your face. Anyways that was my personal opinion but this part is fact...This brush will bleed foreveeer and a day. Ive had this brush for quite a while and it has gone through at least 30 washings and it still bleeds black/blue dye into the while fibers..For this reason, i cant even use it for my creme blushes bc....pink blush plus blue dye = purple?

I was pretty excited when I first got this, and I really liked it. For applying liquid foundation, it gets the job done. Works well for applying blush. It's soft, and very affordable. But every time I wash this brush, it sheds. When I lay it down to dry, it bleeds blue dye onto the paper towel. For those reasons, I would not repurchase.

Hmm got this last week. So far, i've washed it once and used it three times. No color bleeding in the wash and with foundation application it sheds like crazy...i mean like 5-6 long black hairs i need to pick off my face, it's quite annoying.
im reading here that the shedding may stop so i'm holding out on buying a mac187 just yet...
other than that as a stippling brush its pretty great, my foundation has never looked better..i think i'm done using those little sponges that suck in all the product anyway.
so i will update this soon! i hope it stops shedding so i dont have to buy a $$mac brush! and so far i will not buy again bc of the shedding.
UPDATE 9/28/08: Since washing again, the brush DID bleed black somewhat. But the good new is that it stopped shedding as much! instead of 5-6 hairs now its 1-3 when I use it. Still won't repurchase bc CS cost me $10 shipping, but for now I'm set with this brush!

Now this is one of my favorite brushes. I don't use this one to apply my foundation, I just use it to apply my blush and I love how it gives that real airbrush look. I purchased the pink one, and it has worked great, It hasn't shed since the first time i purchased it. Just haven't had any problems with it. And another plus is that you can get it at a real good price.

I use this product for blush only and I love it! It did shed a fair bit in the beginning but after a good wash, it stopped shedding and worked perfectly. This is the first brush I've used that's given me a natural application of blush rather than the harsh, fake, streaky look I've been stuck with for the past while. And the price is amazing - it's like what 8 bucks? Try it if you don't already have a MAC 187.

I'm torn with this product. As a brush for foundation, it's hopeless. It sheds way to much (even after 3 months of almost daily use). It's not dense enough to be able to hold foundation - liquid or powder.
As a brush for blush for a subtle look or work appropriate application, it's great. I use it almost daily for that purpose.
If you need a soft blush brush for light very even application, this is great. For other purposes, don't bother.

This is a great brush for applying liquid highlighters when you want a sheer even application. During my first few uses, I did notice a few hairs falling out, no more fallout since. The price is amazing in comparison to similar brushes in the market. Compared to MAC's equivalent this one is more dence and softer, so it results in a more even application and less irritation to the face. Overall, I would recommend this product as part of a well-rounded brush collection that will not break the bank.

Although the brush is soft, it sheds and isn't dense enough to use it for stippling and blending out liquid foundation.

I am a little in the middle with this product. I feel like it does the job for all the purposes it is supposed to do. However, it sheds like crazy!! I am so disappointed because I feel like it's losing it's density and is becoming softer each time I use it. For a stippler brush I like it more narrow and dense to give me an actual airbrushed look instead of swiping all the product across my face and making wierd smears. I think for the price, it's worth it if you're not willing to invest in a better stippler brush. However, if you really want a great one, I would suggest buying a quality brush that will last forever. I think my stippler is dying slowly while it keeps shedding even while using it on my face. I don't want to have keep buying a stippler. You might as well buy one quality stippler brush and skip out on purchasing 294837 of these in the near future.
UPDATE: 7/14/08- This brush is wayyy too soft now to be used as a stippler. I find that it is a perfect blush for the days you want a sheer coverage of color or a great highlight on the cheeks. However, I ended up investing in the MAC 187 and it's PERFECT for foundation, powder or liquid. I tend to use this for cheek products now and my primer. If you want a duo fiber for foundation, this is not the brush for that.

I received this brush (actually 2) in a swap, but since my end was lost in the mail I wound up paying full value for them. They are worth it. I don't have the MAC brush, or any others like this one, but I love it. I use BE brushes, but they don't have anything quite like this one. I like it to apply mineral blushes from Everyday Minerals and Pure Luxe, and I absolutely won't apply my MAC Dollymix, or Everyday Minerals Soft Bronzer with anything else. I have 2 of these, and I've cut the handles off a little, because they didn't fit in my brush bag. (They were easy to saw!)
I wash my brushes with Bare Escentuals Well Cared For brush cleaner and I didn't have a single tint of dye come out of the brushes. Since they were received in a swap, one was used and one was new in the plastic. The new one shed about 5 black hairs after washing and no bleeding!!
I don't apply my mineral foundation with this, because I prefer a kabuki brush. I can't imagine applying liquid foundation with it because it's so soft. This is the perfect brush for blush, highlighters, bronzers, and finishing veils.
**EDIT** I'm giving this 5 lippies instead of 4 because you just can't beat this brush's performance for it's price!!
