Overall, this is a great product. It does exactly what it says it will do. You use it while your hair is still wet and pull it through for a nice even coat. It softens and protects your hair from both the styling of the blow dryer as well as whatever weather you'll face outside. It really keeps hair smooth. My hairdresser always uses it on me and sold me a bottle almost two years ago. It lasted about a year actually. I had my hair done at the salon last nigt. She used this on me as usual, and when I got home my boyfriend couldn't stop petting me I was so soft.

I have been using this product for about three months, on and off. I like the smell, but am just not converting to this product yet. I put it in after my Phyto 7, then style. If I use Bumble and Bumble styling creme, my hair is good, but without the creme, my hair is still frizzy after blow drying straight and flat ironing and I need to put in more Phyto 7 just to calm it or the B and B creme. Maybe I am expecting too much, I don't know. Maybe this product is simply to keep the hair straight if you have hair that is curlier and susceptible to the elements. Perhaps that is all it is good for? I don't have a problem with that if I blow dry and straighten my hair, so I guess I will still use it till I use it up, but frankly, I don't think I would repurchase this one just because I don't think it is really working on my hair (it isn't hurting it, just not doing anything really).

My stylist used this on me in the salon after I got highlights and color done so I bought it. It doesn't work the same as when she used it on me. I think it worked better when she used it because my hair is always so silky after I get it colored. Everytime I put it my hair my hair feels dry, looks dull and is so hard to blow dry. The only good thing about it is that it did help to get my tangles out. Definitely not worth it. I am sticking to Bumble & Bumlble Prep.

I use the style prep smoother to blow dry my hair. After washing conditioner out of my hair I usually put about a quarter size of the prep smoother in my hand and massage it into my hair. The results are amazing. It helps my hair get really straight after blow drying. The prep smoother also makes my hair soft. This is a must have styling product by Aveda.

I adore this product and it is SO popular at the salon where I work we can hardly keep it in stock! I use it on myself daily and on practically every client that sits in my chair. I love the feeling it gives to all hair types - it really softens hair! For myself I apply a pea sized blob all over my head (starting from the back working forward). I find it makes my hair a bit smoother and easier to work with (it also smells wonderful, light and lemony). Now, my hair is fine in texture. I can get away using this by itself, however if you are coarse, curly or thick, you may need to couple it with another product (hang straight for example) to see the same benefits.
Love love love!

My hair stylist always uses this on my hair, and I love the way it makes my hair feel- just like silk! I have naturally curly hair, but straighten it almost every day so it gets pretty dried out. This works wonders! I have used a similar product by matrix in the past, but it made my hair feel like straw, whereas this does the exact opposite. It's pretty expensive, but my stylist said it lasts a really long time.

I work in an Aveda salon and got a few samples of this to try. I'm still not sure about it - I almost feel like the only reason it "smooths" out hair is because it's just another layer of product you're putting on your hair. Exercise caution when applying this stuff, if you use too much your hair will look like it hasn't been washed in a week. I won't be buying this, even with a discount.

I have had a sample of this for a few months but forgot about it until I read the reviews on the site. So I used a small amount this morning in conjunction with Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid (slightly less than usual to compensate for the extra product). It does exactly what everyone says! I got three compliments on my hair today! The weather was cool and dry, so the real test will be when it gets more humid, as moisture is death to my do (naturally curly/frizzy and thin/fine, past the shoulders and blow dried/CHI iron). But based on today's results, I'm pretty certain I'll buy a full-size bottle.

I got a sample of this and love it. I have texturized African American hair that is on the super soft side. I am notorious for having fluffy, wispy hair when I style it myself b/c I refuse to set the flat iron to a high temp. I used a dime sized amount of this when my hair was wet (after my Helene Cholesterol conditioner and avacado oil). I then spray my hair with some Olive Oil sheen spray. After I blow dried and flat ironed me hair, it felt like I came out a salon. Super silky and smooth. The flat iron zipped through my hair. A week later, and my hair is still smooth and bouncy. Not fluffy at all. It smells ok, a bit citrusy, but I am not a fan of Aveda scents to begin with. Will buy the full size of this. I don't know how much it costs, but however much it is, it's worth it.

Love it, love it, LOVE IT! I bought this about 3 months ago, figuring it couldn't hurt to try it, with summer coming on. I ran out the other day, and tried to go one day without it. BIG MISTAKE! Having used this for several months, I've gotten so used to my hair behaving "normally" in humid weather that I didn't remember how crazy my hair gets without it. Ran to the salon as soon as it opened the next day! Wish it was cheaper, but I'll keep repurchasing.

I purchased this before the Allure review and was rather surprised by how effectively it softened and smoothed my coarse, wavy Eurasian hair. In fact, the first couple of times, I used a bit too much in combination with my other product (usually Kiehl's Straightening Cream or Bumble's Straight) and wasn't sure why my hair was flatter than I intended it to be (though not at all greasy). I figured out that I just need a lima bean size dollop of this which I mostly confine to the ends of my shoulder length hair to get the effect I want. The scent is fantastic but doesn't linger as long as I'd like. Used after towel drying and followed w/a small amount of Straight or similar, my blow-dry and flat iron lasts pretty dang well -- even in humid Mississippi. A real shock, frankly... this was an impulse buy that I didn't really expect much of. I guess my "eh" opinion of some other Aveda stylers (Hang Straight, especially) kind of tainted my expectations. Glad to be proven wrong. Only drawback: it would be nice if the bottle were clear so you could see how much is left.

I have a problem with broken ends, not necessarily frizz because of curly hair and this stuff is great in combo with the shampoo and conditioner. It makes my hair really soft and silky. It's definitely smoother. Maybe not a miracle product but I'm very happy. A little goes a very long way. I use about a pea size for my chin length hair. I've notice that using the three products together (shampoo, conditioner and this) really work nicely together and it's not just marketing.

Okay, I'm going to burst the perfect score. While I do think this smells wonderful, and doesn't do any actual harm to my hair, it didn't make a difference, either. My hair still had problems with frizz (and, yes, I used it as a pre-treatment with my usual styling products, though the liars at "Allure" swear you can use it alone). So, I don't think it was worth the price I paid. At least my hair wasn't flat or crispy, two big pluses.

My new fav hair product! Generally, I think Aveda products are overpriced and overhyped by the salons that want to sell them to you, but this product is great! One pump of this makes my hair soft and smooth whether I blow dry my hair or not. I used to use the Brillance Universal Styling Creme (got sucked into buying a tube of it ... but I did like it... ) which also required using a secondary product to help emolsify but this product does not. And, it's less expensive than the Universal Creme. Like all Aveda products, smells great. Will repurchase.

Smells great and works very well! "Defends against humidity" which I totally agree with. I have very wavy/curly hair but I usually style it straight but my hair can have a mind of its own, especially when there is even a little bit of moisture in the air, and this has really helped calm it down and behave the way I want it.

I believe this is my first review, and it's a YES for this new Aveda product. I recently started using Aveda products again recently, as I grew frustrated spending money on "natural" and "organic" hair products that didn't work. I think Aveda is a good middle ground between nature and technology.
I have fine, wavy hair and alternate between the Smooth Infusions (once a week or so when I blow-dry for a sleek look) and Be Curly (when I simply air-dry my hair on the way to the subway) product lines.
No matter which shampoo/conditioner/styling product I use, I will always use the Style Prep Smoother. It keeps my wavy hair frizz-free when I don't blow dry, and smooth and sleek when I do. The Style Prep Smoother makes a noticeable difference. I have virtually no frizz, my hair isn't crunchy (Hello, Aveda Curl Enhancer), and it doesn't flatten my wave.
It is a daily must for me, and worth every penny.

OK - like the Aveda rep mentioned, it's not a styler, per se, but a PRE-style product to smooth and repel humidity. I must say, it REALLY WORKS. I applied this and then followed with a touch of the Light Elements Smoothing Fluid and my hair was FLAWLESS and survived a day with rain. I have very thick, wavy, medium stand size yet VERY FRIZZY hair and my hair was just fabulous with this. I am just blown away! It has a very light orangey scent (nice) and nearly dissapears which is unheard of for Aveda's overpowering scents. I got a sample, and RAN out to buy the full size once I used it. It rocks! BTW - I used it first with a blow-dry and then next, used it on damp hair, without a blow-dry and let my hair air-dry. Worked great for both looks. Just fantastic. 10+

First off, as anyone who knows me here knows I work for an Aveda salon as a product specialist/retail advisor, but I am absolutely honest in my assesment of our lines items, some I love some not so much, but I wanted to say that so people know and they don't think I'm being biased when I say how much I LOVE this new product. Believe me, I tell you when I don't like something (hello Rosemary Mint....). I've had my sample of this for about 2 months and was dying for the full size to come out this week and it's finally here! What this is is a pre-style, NOT A STYLING PRODUCT!!! What you do is wash & condition your hair, towel dry, then add a pump of this, then your regular styling product (gel, mousse, whatever). This is to repel humidity for up to 12 hours (I cannot comment on this at this time since it's winter in Ohio), make the hair feel silky without comprimising volume (which it does beautifully), and act as a very light weight leave in/heat protectant (which it also does beautifully). It is different then our LIght Elements Smoothing Fluid (which is like our version of Frizz-ease) in that it's not to add shine, it's not for after the hair is dry, it's even lighter weight than that, it doesn't have that silicone feel as much. Our stylists love it because it makes blow-outs easy, sometimes they don't need to flat-iron at all on people that have curly hair, just round-brush and go. IT WILL NOT MAKE YOUR HAIR STRAIGHT, just easier to smoothen and manage. If you already have straight fine hair this is not for you, as it's not going to add anything else to it, just make it soft. If you, like me, have wavy hair and want something lightweight that helps to smooth your hair, get rid of some frizzies/static electricity, make it feel soft and silky without having to do excess heat styling, then this is for you. If you have curly hair and like to straighten it, this will aid you in that, but it is not a miracle you still have to round brush it straight, you can't just put it in and go (sorry I'm envisoning future reviews of people who used it wrong...). It smells like oranges which is yummy in my book (sometimes our products smell a little too much like trees...). We sold out of this item within 2 days of my first shipment, that's how much our stylists and me love this (and that has never happened before...). Try it, if you have any questains pop me a note.
