I knew about this product for years but always passed it by, I don't know, for some reason to me it always looked... cheap. I was determined to find a high-end solution to my constant moderate acne. I tried DDF, Peter Roth, Murad, to name just a few and NONE of them worked. Ran across a Proactiv kiosk and thought why not? After two weeks, my acne had cleared and I used successfully for two years.
But after 2 years, my skin was seriously dull and dehydrated. I decided to start using prescription-strength Tretinoin (Retin A) to do some serious exfoliation. but you're not supposed to use benzyl peroxide with a Retin A so I had to stop using the Proactiv. The Retin A was great at exfoliation. It is also supposed to clear up acne but after two months of daily use, my skin was broken out worse than it ever had been. It was horrible. As great as the deep exfoliation the Retin A gave, I had to give up the Retin A to go back to my Proactiv. Now just three weeks later, my skin is almost completely cleared up from the Proactiv and glowing from the past Retin A usage. I may have to alternate programs for the best results.

Peeling and burning! Made my sensitive skin very itchy and tight also. My brother has normal skin and it didn't do much for him either. I don't know anyone who this has worked for. With my experience with this and other acne products...just visit a dermatologist, you'll get more answers and better product recommendations there...instead of taking a chance on infomercials.

Since my acne was getting way out of control I decided to try proactiv hoping that my skin would clear up in a month (since that was what the lady said ) . I hoped and prayed that my skin would get better but sadly it didn't I broke out worse than what I already had and I thought that maybe that was part of the process , now this is my fourth month using it and my acne is worse than before and my face looks bumpy with dark spots .
So if your out there and your desperately wanting to try something and you feel like this may work for you give it a try it may ,but honestly I WOULDN'T recommend this to any one I know .

Before I put my two cents out there I want to start by saying If you are allergic to bp, you can't use this. That being said here goes...
A lot of people are using this system all too quickly/fast and thus further irritating their skin. I have used proactiv in my late 20's and it worked great. Now that I am much older , I am back and it works wonder. Keep in mind , it took me three weeks to achieve clear skin each time I start and I don't start all three steps at once.
This is how I used it : first two weeks , I only use step 3 and I moisturize after it dries. I got flaky and dry a little but not too bad. At the end of the second week, my skin was less oily and I was not breaking out as I used to. I incorporate the cleanser in the beginning of the third week. It works great because my skin has build up its tolerance to bp by now. My skin was supple and nice to the touch. After a month, I then start using the toner.
My point is you need to build up tolerance first by easing your skin into this system otherwise you will have irritated skin and therefore further breakouts will happen before it gets better. Slowly incorporate each steps. It works even for my cystic acne. And I only use the system at night. I order my products from Amazon or I go to the mall Kiosk. I would never buy from proactiv website because they have got the worst Customer service on this planet and I am not joking.

Just a few words HATE it. i found that this product worked the first two years i bought it then after my face was dried out and tight so i stopped and now my face is addicted to the benzyl peroxide it had so now i break out like crazy i wouldn't recommend it to any one :( .

NOT A huge fan...
leaves a filmy feel on my skin and does not help with oil production.

I don't like this product because its marketing technique insinuates that everyone has the same kind of acne that can be treated in the exact same fashion. The same way people urge you to "grab a kleenex" every time you have a cold, people always tell you to "use Pro Activ" if you have acne. Ideally, it's a simple fix, child's play, really. It's incredible to think that a single over-the-counter regimen can replace every single skincare product on the market and an entire medical field of doctors devoted to dermatology. Oh wait, it can't. That said, I'm sure Pro Activ has worked for many people and will continue to work for them. It doesn't do anything for me though, except burn and dry my face, very painfully, like a sunburn. The product has too high a concentration of benzoyl peroxide and the first treatment (the weird face soap part) is more of a scrub than a cleanser, which positively shreds poor, sensitive skin daily. I believe they also offer a less intense formula whose active ingredient is salicylic acid instead. I'd try that before you jump to the big guns. Bottom line, there is no instant fix for acne. If you want to improve your skin, do your homework and find out what it takes to do that. Visit forums, read product reviews, google search the effects of active ingredients, talk to doctors, sample products, engage in trial and error.

I had been an avid Proactiv user for about many years. Ever since I was 13 I suffered from serious cystic acne. I tried all kinds of facial scrubs, medications, cleansers and nothing worked. I hated my skin all throughout high school. Then when I was 24 and had a credit card, I was watching the late night infomercial with Vanessa Wililams and decided to call. I was so excited to receive my product. When I finally did get it, it took well over a month to finally see results but when I did, man was it a huge difference. I have very sensitive skin and soon realized that I didn't need as much toner or moisturizer because they dried my skin out. But the cleanser worked wonders. I was getting automatic shipments and wasn't using hardly enough product so I would still have more than half a bottle left when my next shipment arrived. It got to the point where I was just using the cleanser and seeing awesome results - even on my chest and shoulders. Eventually it became too expensive for me to keep my subscription up and I had enough bottles saved to last a year since I hardly needed to use much so I cancelled. Then when I ran out, and had not broken out anymore, I decided to use Mary Kay Velocity which worked wonders. Now they have discontinued my MK and replaced it with a crap product that has left me with just as bad acne as I had before I started using Proactiv 9 years ago. A couple of weeks ago I was at a local mall and saw a Proactiv kiosk and have since decided to switch back to Proactiv. What a difference already. And I am back to using all 3 products instead of just the cleanser for now. Yes, Proactiv bleaches towels and clothing if you are not careful, but the difference in my skin since switching back is worth it. I am glad to have my face back again and glad to be able to wear just my tinted moisturizer instead of full on foundation to cover up my blemishes and I have my "glow" back.
Some negatives however: Proactiv is a bit on the pricey side but now that I am able to go to the kiosk at the mall that will save me credit card charges since I can pay cash and save on shipping. And the packaging is really bulky with the box and all the pamphlets inside and the plastic around the bottles is a bit of a pain to rip open sometimes but those are minor details.

Really didn't work for me. When I first tried this, I had horrible broken out skin. Constant breakouts and sensitivity.
After all the infomercials, I was convinced. It was so convincing but I shoud've known better to trust a product that had an infomercial like once a day.
Granted the only thing that ever did work for me was Acutane, but I don't recomment this to anyone looking for a solution for sever breakouts.
