This stuff is awful!! I only used 2 coats of this on my top lashes, and within a few minutes, I have horrible black circles under my eyes. I was really hoping to like this, but YUCK!

Decided to go back to Voluminous and spotted this new formula.. tried it out, but it's not the same as the original Voluminous mascara!

Brush gets tons of globs of excess mascara on it, thus putting clumps into my lashes upon application and clumping my lashes together.. looking way too fake. If i fight with it, and comb out any clumps I can get myself to like this mascara but I'd prefer to not have the hassle every morning. I'll finish my bottle but I will not be buying this formula again..

i wanted to like this - i have good memories of the original voluminious, it was my staple for years...so after swaying from brand to brand, i went to the store and picked this up, thinking since it was carbon black, it would be dramatic and gorgeous...well...the biggest problem is the smearing...i have NEVER had a problem with mascara smudging and dripping under my eyes as much as with this one...i put concealer on and an hour later look like i have huge dark circles again, and it is really only the mascara. gross. so anyways, just get the original voluminious - pass on this one.

meh. I had been a devotee of the original Voluminous mascaras....love sooty black eyemakeup, read the reviews here and thought "It CAN'T be that different." Well, it is. It's not a horrible mascara (at least to me) but it doesn't give my lashes that ooooph the regular Voluminous does. sigh

Voluminous has been one of my favorites for a long time, and I recently decided to try out the Carbon Black formula. It doesn't apply the same way as the original Voluminous - this one is decidedly more of a wet formula, and it doesn't dry as quickly. It does, however, leave you with the longest, blackest lashes ever - if I look upward before this stuff has a chance to dry completely, I get black dots all over my lids. And yes, it's a clumpier formula, too, but work it out with a lash comb or another wand (I like using my old Cover Girl Lash Exact wand, cleaned off, after I've thrown out the tube), and your lashes will look simply amazing!

I have finally found my HG mascara. When I wear it I get compliments on my eyelashes. And that has never happened to me before with other mascaras. I love how it is so dark and gives volume, but doesn't clummp. On the contary it separates my lashes.I would buy again in a heart beat.

I've been looking for a mascara that would deliver dark dramatic lashes with volume. After reading the reviews I was set on purchasing Voluminous original but then I saw carbon black and decided to give it a try. The first coat was not as dramatic as I thought it would be but did separate and define my lashes very well. I applied another coat and that's when I noticed a huge difference. My lashes were full and dark with no clumping or smudging. I am very happy with this purchase.

Love this mascara! Yes, it's a little difficult to apply, but once you get the hang of it, your lashes will never look better. The super-black color is great for those of us who like big, dramatic lashes. If I'm really feeling saucy, I'll put on a coat of this followed by a coat of Maybelline's Lash Stylist to lenghten and seperate even more. Viola -- my lashes look false!

Impulse buy :(. I love the regular Voluminous formula, but with carbon black I get clumping like crazy, and raccoon eyes during the day, which I have never had with any other mascara - d/s or h/e. Furthermore, it just does not wash off entirely. Even after washing my face at night, sleeping, then washing again in the morning this stuff is still there. Too much work for me.

The promise of Carbon Black lashes sucked me in and spit out wet sordid lashes. I did rate that I would purchase this again, b/c I've bought Voluminous repeatedly in the past, and had the same problem with the formula. It dries up a bit after 3 weeks and then it's perfect. So I'm going to pump the tube a bit every morning while I use another mascara. Then 3 weeks from now I expect, no, I DEMAND carbon black lashes.

This was okay for a drugstore brand. I think I'll stick to Lancome definicils from now on though. This one is definitely volume building but tends to clump a little. I fix that with a lash comb and it looks great. Very dramatic. I like the dramtic, dark thick looking lashes for everyday use, but I find that my Lancome doesn't need any extra work to comb through. I already have to curl, put on lash primer and let dry, them swipe on mascara. I have a lot of steps to do in the morning and I'd rather not worry about wiping my mascara or having to comb it out. Overall, it is okay for the dramtic look but I need a faster mascara for every morning. Plus it tends to smudge a little by the end of the day.
UPDATE 3/9/07: I tried pushing the brush against the side of the tube as I pull it out(to scrape off the clumps) and it now slides over my lashes like a dream. I don't need to use a lash brush to separate anymore!

Tried this out because of the raves on the board. I suppose it's good for building volume but the more I put on the clumpier and faker my lashes look. It also takes awhile to dry and leaves marks on my lids. I think this is good for an extreme look but since I don't like that for everyday, I'll use up my tube but not repurchase.

Even after wiping off half the product from the brush, I'm still left with way too many clumps and streaks. This stuff is horrible. It makes my lashes look like spider legs. Yuck!

I have tried voluminous mascara in the past, and found the product to be too dry and clump-inducing. I figured I would try Voluminous one more time when I saw the Carbon Black formula, since it seems like most carbon black and blackest black mascaras are wetter formulations. Well my assumption was correct, this mascara is alot wetter than the original Voluminous mascaras, and therefore it goes on my lashes much better and causes very minimal clumping if any at all. And though its kind of liquidy, it doesn't leave smudges on me (unlike the very wet Maybelline blackest black--great color awful staying power!!) My only complaint is that, like other reviewers have commented, the brush pulls out more mascara then needed, but I just swipe the excess off into the rim of the tube, or dab in on a piece of tissue. Either way, it's not really that big of a deal, and it's worth the minor hassle for the huge, long, full, black lashes I get. I ♥ this product and I would recommend it to any ladies searching for a very dark volumizing mascara that isn't at all dry and super thick like many other volumzing mascaras.

Yuck. I love the way this mascara looks on my lashes...AFTER I wipe most of the product off of the brush. What a waste! I hate the time it takes to remove most of the product and the mess it makes. Will not buy again.

I L-O-V-E this mascara! I have dark hair and brown eyes and I need a really dark mascara to make my eyes pop. This does the job! I agree with the other reviews, you have to have a light hand and apply additional coats while it is still wet. I always get complements when I wear this. I use one of those small brushes (I wash brushes from old mascara tubes and use them in place of brushes I don't like) from an old mascara for my lower lashes. Works like a charm! Give it a try, especially if you have dark hair or want to go glam! If you hate it, take it back. No harm done!!

i despise this nasty little mascara. i love the regular voluminous, but this was a clumpy, messy little disaster in a tube. i was drawn to it because i loooove a dark mascara, but this is a bit much. i will NOT be buying this again. deal or no deal? NO DEAL.
