I used to use this because I wanted something that would protect my hair while hairdrying and straightening it. It made my hair soft and shiny. I stopped using it now...although it claims to protect your hair i couldnt see any real difference because it still looked a little damaged. I do believe it helped keep frizz down and minimized the damage somewhat though. Im now going to try a similar product called Heat Protexx by Nexxus...

I've gotta say, rarely am I ever impressed with a drugstore hair product, but this stuff is terrific!

I have very fine, straight, long, layered, dark brown hair which I color every six weeks with a semi-permanent color to hide my handful of gray hair. Because I blow dry my hair every day with a large ceramic round brush for volume, and occasionally use a curling iron, my hair is prone to split ends.

I just switched salons and got a new hair cut, and the stylist used a heat protecting spray, which gave my hair such volume and shine without the usual dry ends. The stuff she used was $18 at the salon (it was an obscure fancy brand and I don't remember the name), and was a little beyond my budget, so I decided to see what I could find at the drugstore before investing too much money.

I looked at the VO5 that another lady mentioned here, and as she said, the ingredients are identical to the Tresemme. If my memory served me right, they are also basically the same ingredients as the stuff my stylist used. At the regular price, the bottle of Tresemme is larger and cheaper than VO5, so I went with Tresemme because it was also on sale.

Before applying my volumizing mousse, I sprayed about a dozen pumps of the heat protector on and combed it through from root to ends with a wide-toothed comb. Then I went about my usual routine of drying my hair upside down until 80% dry, and then sectioned off the hair and finished drying it using my ceramic round brush. The results were as good as, if not better than, what I got in the salon. All day long my hair stayed fluffy, soft and shiny. No more crispy ends.

Now, to be fair, I haven't tried using this product with a flat iron, so I don't know how well it will work with one. But my dryer gets super hot, and the ceramic brush heats up really hot too.....to the point that I get that "steam" that rises up when the product is burning off, just as you get when using a flat iron. I know that in any case, whether using a curling iron or flat iron it's really important to make sure that your hair is 100% dry and cooled down first so that the cuticle is smooth before you iron it or you will lose the moisture inside the hair shaft......or at least that's what the stylists tell me.

Anyway, after a week of using this stuff I am really pleased and will continue to use it!

Eh, it's just ok for me. It smells good, but I'm not sure what else it does for your hair. After heat styling, my hair looks the same whether or not i used this. Kind of annoying waiting for it too dry, and the little spray nozzle broke, so I had to transfer to another bottle.

I'm only giving it a three because apparently it works for a lot of others but not for me...otherwise I'd probably give it a 1. I took it right back to Wal-mart after using it once. It made my hair gummy feeling and didn't see where it detangled AT ALL...although that's not what it's supposed to do anyway but I hoped. My hair is very fine and this stuff made it hard to blowdry as my hair kept sticking together making my brush get stuck...the last thing I need is my brush breaking my already dry ends! I grabbed a bottle of Suave Kids detangling spray and found it much better..I have written a review on that product...still searching though...

I watched as a professional hairdresser fixed my daughter's hair for her prom last year. Needless to say, after she was finished with her hair and using a similiar product, she had BEAUTIFUL Jessica Simpson hair. She told her to use a "heat protectant spray" on her hair while she used a curling iron-(or flat iron)-in it from now on. I purchased TRESemme Instant Heat Tamer Spray and it really does protect your hair from any furthur damage and seems to make your hair stay in place...it just looks better overall. Highly recommended and at a great price too!

After this won the cosmo mag beauty award, and has been raved about by hair stylists I had to try it. Yes, you do need a barrier between your hair and heat. Something to lightly coat the outer layer like this will help. It won't be a miracle, but it does help stop damage. It works for most hair, but all you can do is try it and see if it works for you. My results are great, so I'm sticking with it until they decide to stop making it.

Some of you have been commenting on the merits of this product versus V05's miracle mist. I just wanted to let you guys know that other than fragrance the two products are the same. The ingredient lists for both read exactly the same and they are both made by Alberto-Culver USA. If one works well for you the other one should as well so just pick which one is either cheaper or smells better!
I currently have the V05 version but since they're the same I'll go ahead and give this product my praise. I straighten my hair almost every day, and I started noticing my bangs getting that crispy, fried look so I knew I had to use some sort of heat protection product. Well, this stuff really works. I don't notice that it makes my hair any easier to style but I just spray it on my dry hair right before straightening it to protect it. Now, months after purchasing it I haven't had any more problems with dry, over-heat-styled hair. It's great stuff!

Works well. Nice, light smell and SUPER cheap. I just prefer serum or creams as pre-heat treatments. They seem to work better with my hair type.

This stuff is good. I like how the mist is very light and controllable. I never straighten my hair without it since it helps to keep my hair straight all day. It smells good, too.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!! It's my HG. I have tried practically every leave in/heat styler possible from drugstores and high end products. They all seem to work like a charm the first 2-3 uses and then they coat the hair and it does not work any longer. This product has worked for me and given me beautiful results with EVERY use. I have waist length curly hair. I use this for blow drying my hair and as a leave in also in letting my hair air dry. I just towel dry my hair, spray the heat tamer, detangle my hair and then start the scrunching process. My hair air drys into beautiful curls, shiny, healthy and super soft. I receive compliments all the time while my hair is straight or curly and I owe it to this product. Give it a shot. Leaves the hair super soft, weightless and not feeling as if there is any product at all on it. Which is a huge plus in my book.

I had been using the V05 Miracle Mist, but got disillusioned with how quickly I was going through bottles of it (and my hair is only to my collar bone). And since this product has 8 oz. instead of 5 or so oz., I thought I'd give it a try. I honestly can't tell the difference between the two as far as quality. I actually like the smell of this better than the Miracle Mist. To me Instant Heat Tamer smells like fruit/berries. I'm sure it's not a smell everyone will find appealing, though. But to me it is pleasant. I think I will continue to buy this product, unless my hair suffers from it in the long run. I highly doubt that is possible though, since my hair has been like straw for ages. LOL...

I was very disappointed in this product. There is no alcohol listed in the ingredients but I definitely can smell it when I spray it. My hair seems to be more drier than usual through out and near the roots it's kind of poof.

I used the V05 in the past and flat ironed in my sleep and it always came out pin straight and shiny. I'm definitely taking a trip over the border this weekend.

I only use this when it's absolutely necessary i.e. before straightening iron. But that's the only time I can use this stuff. In my mind I think it's protecting my hair... maybe it's only in my mind! Anyway, can't use it with normal blow drying cos it doesn't do much and makes hair dirty much quicker. Now that I don't use straightening irons or even blow drying my hair much (going for a more natural wavy look...) there's really no use for this at all! Just collecting dust... Oh well. Will not buy again.

I know this gets a bad rap on the hair board, but I actually like this very much.I have lived off of Vo5 Miracle Mist for the last yr. I've literally gone through about 10 bottles of that stuff and I love it. But I went to the drug store last week to buy more and saw this on the shelf. Since it was bigger and only a dollar more I thought i'd give it a try. It has a pleasant smell and it sprays more evenly than the Vo5. After blow-drying, my hair wasn't stiff or crunchy at all (which I am always nervous about) but shiny and soft. I've used it twice now with the same results. However on the boards someone posted that they had good results with this at first and then it completely dried out their hair, so I will up-date this review when I have been using it longer.

I really like TRESemme products usually, mainly their shampoos and conditioners, but their "Instant Heat Tamer Spray" did absolutely nothing for me. I thought at the very least it would make my shinier or softer, but it didn't. Don't waste your money! The only reason I gave it a two was because it was cheap and I did like the spray bottle...probably not very good reasons.

I am one of the few who didn't have a good experience with this product. I got it because it was recommended in Shop Etc. magazine, and it seemed like a real bargain. Unfortunately, it didn't do much to protect my hair during drying or flat iron use, and it left my hair feeling 'crunchy', no matter how little product I used. I ended up tossing it and switching to V05 Miracle Spray. At least it wasn't expensive, so no big loss.

I don't think this stuff actually does anything to prevent heat damage, but it smells nice and makes a decent leave-in conditioner/detangler. I'd buy again because it's cheap.
