Oh my, got this in a swap thinking, "eh, I'll try it since this color has been around awhile and I need to try more PP colors." Well, was I surprised. This looks blah to me in the pot and even when I put it on by itself it's nothing special. However, I LOVE using MAC Grain as an all over color for my neutral days (which are most) and Groundwork is PERFECT underneath. It adds more dimension to the Grain that my Lorac BTS just doesn't. I still love my BTS, my favorite primer overall, but it was so nice to find a perfect match for Grain. If it wasn't for the perfect combo with Grain and Groundwork, I would never think about buying this. But I love this new combo so much, I gotta get it when I run out. I'm sure this would work with many other brown"ish" shades too, but I haven't tried any others yet, lol.

great color, keeps my cheap eyeshadows from creasing. No complaints, its a little costly though, you don't need much product to get the job done, so i imagine this will last me for a while.

Excellent product. I use it by itself for a polished "office day look" (with a little bit of eye pencil), during the weekend by itself for a more casual look (great also if you play golf as it does not move) and as a base if I want a more dramatic evening look. The colour is not bland (a warm brown with slight shimmer - no glitter). It does not crease, lasts all day and it is very easy to apply (I use a Mac 217). It lasts ages and, compared to other brands, it is very affordable. A pot lasts me about 8 months (with heavy use).

A wonderful soft bunny brown with little sheen. This is great for adding a little definition in the socket/crease area. I have pretty fair skin, around a NW15. I can wear it all over my lids, but I like it more in the crease.
I have to wear it with some kind of primer underneath or it creases on my very oily lids. By the end of the day I notice some creasing underneath right above the inner corner of my eye, but nothing terrible. It last longer if I set it with e/s.
The texture is lovely, but still lasts a while. The jar is very solid and sturdy looking, but you need to make sure to close it tightly.
Goes on easily with a finger or a brush. Good for simple eye looks. I also think this would work well as a base for a soft smokey eye look, but I don't really care for that style of eye m/u so I haven't tried it for that purpose.

This product will make your eyeshadow last all day without creasing. It's fantastic! It can also be used to fill in brows or as an eyeshadow alone. I love that it contains so much product.

Im dark skinned and ground work shows up a chalky white but thats ok because I brought it to go under my shadow not to wear as one. It helps my shadows stay in place and makes the color pop.

Love this one. It ends up actually being the tone of my lid, but smoother, better, with a subtle satininess. For reference i am NC30. I love paint pots, both as stand alone shadows and bases for powder shadows. They wear like iron, and are smooth and cause me no irritation, which some eyelid products can (I'm looking at you UDPP). I bought mine when it first came out, and it's still fresh because I store it UPSIDEDOWN. Paint pots are one of my favorite MAC products and I'm peeved that MAC has decided to discontinue the colored ones of these like Delft, and Moss Scape, etc. But anyway, this is a great basic color that would work for a fairer person as a light taupe. great color, great product. I'm half way through my pot, so it takes a while, but I will definitely repruchase this one.

This is holy grail. Why?
1.As an eyeshadow, it is a taupe-y brown with a slight shimmer that does not make me look tired. (I have warm undertones)
2.As an eyeshadow base, it makes my eyeshadow last longer, prevents creasing etc etc... basically, it makes even drugstore eyeshadows work brilliantly on my lids.
3.It goes on smoothly and does not blend out unevenly on my eyelids, even though I use my fingers to apply it.
4.It does not crease at all, even when worn by itself.
5.A teeny tiny amount is needed per application - this pot is going to last me forever!
Do you need any more reasons? Anyone on whom painterly and soft ochre looked ashy will ADORE groundwork. GO check it out today! :)

I love this as a base for brown shadows. Unfortunately when I wear it alone it fights a tad with my skintone but under a goldy brown shadow it really brings out the gold which is lovely.

This is the first paint pot that I've ever purchased and I have to say that, I am not that happy and yet I'm not that disappointed. As a woman of color (NW 50) I wanted a base that would match my skin more as well as serve as a primer. At the MAC counter, the lady there tried this on me with the eyeshadow duo, odd couple. I loved how the purple played with color of groundwork. But somehow, I don't really like groundwork too much. It seems a bit too light for me and I'm starting to have second thoughts about it by itself. I am starting to eye Constructivist paint pot more and more. I won't say that I won't ever purchase this again because I might... but at the same time, I don't think that its completely right for my skin tone either. After purchasing Constructivist, I'll compare the two to see which one I like the most. But so far, other than the odd appearance on my lids, it doesn't crease my eyeshadow since i don't have oily lids and it really makes my eyeshadows look really vibrant.
UPDATE: LOVE LOVE this paint pot now. Realized that it was all about aplication, when I'm not heavy with it, it goes on sheer and blends really well with my skin tone. As for constructivist, its too dark for me, but its great for smoky eyes!

This is awesome. My favorite everyday eyeshadow. I wear it alone as a wash over the lid and blended into the crease for day, and then at night it I just add whatever e/s on top and it works as a great base! Doesn't crease at all on me. It's a great neutral taupe-y color with just a tiny bit of shimmer--looks natural but polished on its own. Container seems good, and you get a TON of product--I barely swipe a blending brush over the pot for each eye--so I think it will last forever!
I'm looking forward to trying other colors, but right now this is my HG daytime shadow.

I got this paint pot after I purchased a few matte eye shawdows and my Indianwood paint pot would add shimmer taking away the effect of a 'matte' look. This glides onto my eye lids like a dream and has good staying power, it usually only creases on my inner corners by the end of the day. I have oily lids and this has really helped. I wear it on its own or with my matte shadows!

Okay, so I left the MAC store here in Istanbul, having paid a fortune, and having bought this... among other things. (It's a mistake to even set foot in that store!) And I came home and took a look at Groundwork and said I've made a huge mistake! I'm very fair, with pink toned skin and brown-based neutrals normally look terrible on me. The next day I decided to give it a try though, I have quite high brows and smoothed it on all the way up to the brows, then I put on a white shimmery shadow. You know how pale shimmery shadows can look terrible if you have even the slightest discoloration on your eyelids? Well this got rid of that and made my eye area appear- "luxurious", for lack of a better word, when paired with another lighter eyeshadow. I think I will be using this every day.
The only thing is, now I want painterly, since it's more suited to my skin tone, and can be used on it's own!.
x

I wish I could give this 100 lippies. I want to scream my love for this item from the rooftops! I use this alone just about every day for a lovely wash of color. It's a nice soft taupe-y brown with barely noticeable shimmer (not glitter). It adds such a nice color to my NW20 skin and really helps to brighten my eye area. I do have quite oily eyelids and I am able to get about 5 hours of wear before this starts to crease. It's neutral enough that you can add a colorful eyeliner if you want or just use brown or black to look polished and pretty. The packaging is great on these, nice sturdy glass and the amount is generous for the price. This is my favorite of all the paint pots that I've tried and my favorite go-to daily eye product. If I could ever only use one eye product again, this would be the one. I would absolutely purchase this again. HG.

I bought this paint pot almost a year ago with the intention of using it like an eye shadow with other neutral colors but it so does not work this way for me. It looks like a lovely medium brown in the pot but it turns into a *greyish* medium brown on my lids. Not flattering! Instead I use it as a base for brown eye shadows to intensify them. (NW15-20 for reference.)
As a base it has the same quality as any other paint pot, it wears well and dries in a reasonable time so that I'm still able to apply eye shadow on top of it.
I'm sure it's not a bad paint pot. It just doesn't work for me. Hence, no repurchase, ever.

I bought this about a year and a half ago because I read somewhere that it is a good base for darker women. (I'm NC40 for reference) I tried painterly but it looked too ashy so I bought this with the intention of using it as an eyeshadow base/every day lid color.
First of all, the packaging is great. It comes in a sturdy little glass pot and it seems virtually unbreakable. My brother dropped my pot a week after I bought it *sigh* but it didn't get a single crack or anything. Love the packaging. Also it holds a LOT of product. Honestly you could use this every day for 2 years straight I'm sure. So in terms of value for money, it is great.
Now for the product. I would describe the colour as being a dark brown with a bit of a sheen to it. Honestly speaking, it doesn't look that flattering on me, but I think it's okay for an everyday colour so I still wear it from time to time. The reason it's not very flattering is that I find it kind of makes me look more dull. I don't know how but it does. Now I use All that glitters e/s every day and I look much brighter and open-eyed lol. I can imagine this working really well for office go-ers because it gives a bit of color but still looks neat and professional.
I wouldn't mind the color much but it's the consistency that doesn't work too well for me. Don't get me wrong - it is really creamy and applies really smooth, even if you use a brush/your fingers. I have oily lids though and this creases on me EVERY DAY. It doesn't help that I live in Hong Kong's humid and sweaty climate ugh. But after 3 hours or so it creases A LOT and I'm left with melted paintpot on my eyes so I have to wipe it off. I bought it mainly as an eyeshadow base so it doesn't work well for that at all. :( When I apply e/s on top it's the same.
Overall, a good product IF you want a really natural look and you don't have oily lids. If you have oily lids, do not get this and expect it to work as a base because I'm pretty sure it will crease. I wouldn't repurchase this color but maybe other paintpots yes.
