I bought this mascara on the way to a wedding when I had forgotten my own at home. It was on sale so I decided to take a chance on it. It's nothing to write home about. It does thicken and lengthen lashes fairly well, but it flakes and is difficult to remove. I won't repurchase.

It flakes.
.
I used to wear this every day,
to my SUPER STRICT Pakistani high school (girls weren't allowed to wear makeup, colourful socks or shoes, NAIL POLISH, etc) & you know what?
.
I always got caught in assembly. The teacher would give me this cold hard stare & root me out. She specially had a box of Wet Wipes for girls like me, to wipe our makeup off (in front of the WHOLE school).
Ohh yeah..I got the "bad girl" rep thanks to this.
And I know who to blame. Mr. Flakey McFlake.
.
This was my go-to before Cover Girl Lash BLAAAAST!
So this isn't awesome, but it's not bad, you know? I mean..meh. Eh.
.
I like the tube, I guess. I'd like a car in that colour.
.
Meh. Eh.
.
It's like you take your favourite singer (in my case, Ali Zafar),
and you compare 2 songs.
.
One is the upbeat awesome wonderful no-brainer-for-any-party (Sajania, Channo), and the other is the one you can find no FAULT with per se, but it's just lacking *something* (Dekha, Masty).

MOST Maybelline 'scaras fall into the Dekha/Masty category, for me, including this one.
.
What's it lack? Soul, probably. Mascara needs soul, people. Just like music.

When I first bought this mascara I really liked it. It works as expected. My lashes are long, from using Latisse, and this made them a bit darker, a bit longer, and and a lot thicker. It looks great on. The reason I marked that I would not buy it again is that it got crusty in one month. I know it was one month because I change my mascara every 60 days. I mark it on the calendar so I don't forget because I am prone to eye infections. It's a big deal for me. So, I opened up the tube yesterday and there were two giant hard crusty clumps stuck on the wand. It was closed tightly and used the same way I have been using mascara for like 24 years. I thought maybe it was close to time to change tubes; so I checked the calendar. Nope. I had been using that tube for one month. That's lousy! In the last 10 years I've never had a mascara get dry and clumpy on me before I through it out. So, even though this stuff is cheap, like $8 at Walgreens, I can't say it's even worth it.

I tried this product again after finding my HG mascara and having more practice with application methods and it wasn't so bad. It lengthens a bit but I don't notice much volume, just that it doesn't leave my lashes spidery or too clumpy. I do have to curl my lashes beforehand to get a nice result but the biggest issue for me is that it takes more effort to remove even with an oil cleanser.. and my lashes tend to fall out as I rub gently =S

This has been my go-to mascara for years. I'm regularly seduced by amazing ads for other mascaras but I always end up tossing them after a few uses and coming back to this one. It does a great job of dramatically darkening my short, sparse lashes, and one layer gives them clean volume and a little length. I can easily achieve more dramatic volume by applying another layer or two (just be sure the mascara is fresh, I get a new one every 3-4 months to avoid clumps and flaking). The single most important reason this is my favorite mascara though is a bit strange. I curl my lashes before putting on mascara, and I've found that every other mascara I try, even "curling" formulas, tends to straighten them back out as they dry! Lancome, Cover Girl, Neutrogena, Max Factor, Clinique, you name it. Why go to the trouble then? The original Volum Express waterpoof is the ONLY mascara I've found that perfectly preserves my curl for the brightest, most wide-eyed effect.

Deserves the waterproof rating and the 5 stars are mainly for that. It has never let me down in rainy weather, swimming etc. but the only wish for this product is that it was blacker and thickened a little more. Don't try the Turbo, it is not even comparable in the waterproof dept.

This is the first mascara i ever tried, and got it due to a friends recommendation. Its affordable, and there is suprisenly alot of formula in the bottle, and it lasted me a long time. it didnt run, and alot of it even stayed on in the pool :). and i love the color! the brush is alright. however, i did notice i got alot more clumping and less volume than i wanted. it dident really even look good unless i curled my lashes (though this could be because my lashes do natrualy stck staight down). All in all, this is a fairly decent product to use, but it clealy isnt top- notch.

I've noticed over the years that I am very fond of the Maybelline Volum' Express Mascara line. I bought the 3x the volume one. There is no doubt that this is a good waterproof mascara! I spent the whole day in humid hot summer weather, and it did not melt and gave my lashes A LOT of volume! It was amazing. I don't find it hard to remove with my [sephora] waterproof makeup remover. I tried the Full and Soft waterproof mascara, but it ended up all over the bottom of my eyes after only a couple of hours. I will continue to use this line of mascara. It has worked the best for me.

This is very water, sweat, pool, beach, and humidity proof mascara. It lengthens, and adds a ton of volume. It doesn't hold my curl perfectly all day, but it does a good job of staying put. This is my favorite summertime mascara.

this mascara is really waterproof. .On the pool, on the beach or on water sports but i just cant remove it. I already try 3 different eye make up removers and just cant remove this mascara without making skin irritation. I like the volume effect but doest do a great curl effect

I got this and it sucked! It was horrible if not impossible to remove when even using two different removers. Doesn't give volume at all to my lashes. Waste of money

This was my go to mascara back in high school :) It gave me the volume I wanted. Once out of high school I wanted a little more than volume, curl! This holds curl decently, but I noticed it doesn't last all day. I branched out to other mascaras for this reason. I might go back to this just for the volume effect. It doesn't feel too stiff or heavy. I've experienced a few flaking here and there, but a lot of quick drying waterproof mascaras are notorious for that. It comes off a lot easier with eye makeup remover.

I loooveeee this mascara, it's one of my top two (the other one being Full 'n Soft). The brush is spiral, which makes for nice definition and seperation. It really is waterproof too! No smudging :) I will buy this over and over again.

Well... this is an ok product, but I was dissapointed. I have long, pretty curly lashes but they are BLOND, so I need color. This delivered. I also need volume, and WHY did this not deliver? No, it made my lashes dry and cakey and it flakes and smudges, WITHOUT volume. Needless to say this went in the trash.

When I was in highschool I used to use this mascara. Later on, I've switched to high end mascaras (my favorite one: YSL Effet Faux Cils). In a few weeks I'll give birth to a baby girl and I needed a waterproof mascara (I don't want racoon eyes when I'm crying all the time out of emotion) but I didn't want to pay 25 euros for a waterproof mascara that I'm going to toss away after a few weeks (too bad Effet Faux Cils doesn't have a waterproof sister). So I decided to buy this mascara but I wasn't expecting much (since it's a drugstore mascara, and let's be honest, they are not that good as other high end ones).
First of all: where is the volume in this?? You literally need to pack it on if you want a bit of volume. Good thing, it doesn't clumbs (maybe after a few days it will...) If you don't mind putting 5 layers of mascaras on your lashes (wich can't be healthy for your lashes by the way) and you don't want to pay 25 euros for a good one, than maybe this is a good choice. After all, it's been on the market for a long time. That means people are still buying this stuff.
They could made the packaging a bit more attractive. It is something that you use everyday. But hey, I'm used to the gold packaging of YSL so don't blame me :)

This is the best waterproof mascara I've ever found. When I'm riding in the hot, humid Wisconsin summer, then bathing my horse, just about any mascara, even waterproof, will end up under my eyes. But not this! It stays on. It's easy to apply, it does a nice job of thickening and lengthening, it comes off with Cetaphil or cold cream, it's cheap... what's not to love?

This mascara is as good as any department store waterproof mascara I've ever tried. I flirt with others, but I come back to it and I'm never disappointed.

This product was a staple for me in highschool. Over the last couple years I tried a few new mascaras that received higher ratings on makeupalley, but none of them were amazing. Yesterday I bought volum express again pretty much on a whim, and wow, as soon as I put it on I could see why. Length and thickness, amazing for holding a curl, not clumpy-just perfect.

This is my HG mascara. I have been purchasing and repurchasing for about 5-6 years now.

It holds my curls. It doesn't smudge!!! It works wonderfully for both volume and length. It doesn't dry out fast ( all of mine have lasted me longer than 3 months each ). It washes off easily with make-up remover.

The only bone I have to pick with this mascara is that if I'm not careful when applying, it will get on my lids. Other than that, fantastic mascara. I wear this for my everyday looks and turn to my CG Lash Blast in Waterproof for nights out on the town when I want a more dramatic look.

I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a drugstore brand mascara that can do what I listed above.

Before I moved houses, I had a pool in my backyard and the summers here where I live are very humid. This is the only mascara that will stay on when I am in the water. I also took this with me on vacation last year to Mexico and it worked very nicely. The only problems I had with it were these: if I accidently touched my undereyes with sunscreen or whatever, it left me with racoon eyes. (so be very careful with products with oil near your eyes if you have makeup on, as always!) also, the formula held curl - untill you got into the water. But I guess for a mascara, not coming off in the water was enough for me.
Overall, a great mascara!
