This is my daily sunscreen until something better comes along. Has a faint scent, decent ingredients, looks nice on skin, no white cast at all, it's totally transparent and even at end of day it's not a grease pit. Can be a bit drying on bare skin, so some serum/moisturizer underneath is something I can't forgo. Can't use it around eyes, it burns/stings there. So far I don't seem to get any color from it, but I'm itching to try it out in heavy skin/beach conditions as quite a few people have reported Devita lets them darken.

Loved that it was only $20, that it is free of so many chemicals, is so high in zinc and it went on smooth but as other reviewers have mentioned it simply does not seem to offer the protection it claims.
This is not a good sunscreen.
**Update - to be clear, my skin is a litmus test for sunscreen. Without protection I burn in 20 minutes. I burn and freckle every time I put this on. I haven't had this problem with even the cheapest, crappiest sunscreens (I've tried over 70) and never with any other zinc sunscreens.
I haven't thrown out the product because I'm tempted to take it to a lab to be tested. Fortunately or unfortunately, I don't have to wait for premature aging to take effect to know if a sunscreen protects. My skin shows it immediately.

I have adult acne, mild in nature and also oily skin. I wanted a product that would not worsen my oiliness and at the same time provide some benefit of sun protection on a daily basis. This product was perfect and did not break me out. It does provide some moisturization, but not a lot. However, I think this product would be fine to go over a cream in the winter time if your skin is dry. It dries almost instantaneously upon application and does not leave behind any films/white cast. Definitely will repurchase. The only concern is that it comes in a glass bottle, which is inconvenient for traveling and may break easily if dropped.

Devita has now changed the packaging of the face solar protective moisturiser from that icky glass pump with a lot of waste to a convenient Squeeze Tube. It also now comes in 2.5 oz instead of the 1.7 oz. That makes me a happy camper :)
The formula is the same and I'm always surprised at why people say it goes on thick and heavy. I've tried a few physical sunscreens and while Devita is a moisturiser with SPF, I've found it to work like what it claims to be. A moisturiser with fairly good sun protection. I have oily/normal acne prone skin and this works well for me. There is a slight sheen after application, but no tacky feel. Certainly way less than many other physical and chemical ss I've tried. It has not caused me breakouts and this is the 3rd or 4th jar/tube I'm on.
It's not waterproof, so I use this for everyday normal activities that don't cause me to perspire too much. However, you'll need something else for sports.
I also use this lightly on my undereye and eyelid with no problems, but YMMV.
I only wish this were made available on iHerb and Vitacost soon (tube form). One other gripe, the ingredients list reads way less than the body version, but why is it pricier ml for ml? Ridiculous from my pov. Other than that, no other gripes atm.

I happened to pick up the version in the jar packaging. I was looking for a nice sunscreen that would not make my oily, acne prone skin shiny. This goes on feeling like a creamy lotion, sets to a clear, non-white cast, smooth finish.
However, I found that this is very ineffective as a sunscreen. The first day I wore it I took a short walk, in the winter time, and got a burnt nose and cheeks. I usually wear an SPF 15, and had not gotten sunburned in years, so was surprised to have gotten color with this SPF 30. It makes a nice moisturizer, just don't expect a lot of sun protection. It also stings sometimes when I apply it. Will not repurchase.
Pros:
No scent
No breakouts
Sets to a smooth finish
Great under makeup
Slightly moisturizing
Cons:
Very little sun protection
Slightly stings
Pricey

I wanted this SPF moisturizer to work for me so badly, you have no idea. I prayed to the GODS that it this one, perhaps THIS sunscreen my skin will tolerate. Sadly, she did not. It seems like my skin, who is finicky and reactive hates all sunscreens. Maybe not ALL sunscreens out there in the world, but certainly all of the sunscreens I've tried. Chemical sunscreens make me itch. And break out. Physical sunscreens give me rashes, and also make me itch. Devita, while it applied beautifully (it gave me a nice glow, and my mineral makeup applied on top of it beautifully), gave me a fleshy-colored, patchy, flakey rash all along my forehead. And no where else I applied it. The rash was itchy, but hard to see to the naked eye. I could feel it with my fingers and it's still there, slowly going away. I bought it from a local grocery store named Plum Market. At $28, I got the eggplant pump, which is very convenient and easy to use, and hygienic! There was no odor as far as I could tell, and it applied smoothly. I loved it and wanted it to work, but it did not. My skin is too sensitive. But please ladies, if you have no problems using sunscreens, please consider this one, it is lovely is every way, I just wish it worked for me! :(

I love the texture and the finish, but I think is not as effective as a sunscreen.
I am not sure about the quality of the uvsunsense bands, but I tried this sunscreen (along with others) on them, and Devita SPF 30 had almost non protection (comparable with the side of the band where I did not put sunscreen on).
Shiseido SPF55 and Chanel UV Essentiel did the best. Loving Naturals SPF30 and Yes to Carrots (only 10% zinc oxide) did much better than Devita in my little trial.

I tried this after reading the reviews. My skin does not burn easily, so I cant speak for the efficacy of the SPF.. I wear it more for anti-aging prevention. The ingredients are text book perfect and would appeal to anyone seeking natural skincare routine; sadly...this product did not work for me.
I noticed my skin itched and had hive like blemishes after a couple hours of use. First I thought it must be makeup or something else external...how could it be my new spf chuck full of *goodness*. I continued to use for month w/ makeup and alone and have deduced the culprit as Devita. I continue my search for the perfect non chemical spf.

I was looking for a zinc oxide-only sunscreen. This is the first one I have found so have nothing to compare zinc to zinc sunscreens with. I usually use a mix of chemical and natural suncreen ( Repenix Spf 40) but after reading all the horrors of chemical sunscreens and titanium dioxide, I switched to this. It does not break out my combination skin and does not leave my face shiny. But... there is something I do not like about this. For some reason ( and maybe I am paranoid here ) I feel like my skin is not really protected from UV. As I am using this in the wintertime, it is hard to tell if this is working or not. Will use this up and keep looking for another sunscreen.

This is my HG moisturizer. I use Devita solar protective moisturizer for my face...as well as their body version. I like that it only contains zinc oxide as their sunscreen. I've been avoiding products that contain oxybenzone, after reading numerous articles about the long-term side effects of oxybenzone. And it's nearly impossible to find sunscreens that don't contain that chemical, esp. in a drugstore.
Plus, I avoid titanium dioxide after learning that it could lead to cancer. But nothing bad has been said of zinc oxide so I stick with that. Plus, it contains hyaluronic acid, which is great for your skin.
This moisturizer sinks into your skin, doesn't leave a white case on your face, and feels wonderful. It helps leave a smooth palette for make-up application. There isn't anything I don't love about this...except maybe the packaging. I wasn't crazy about the tub. And I'm not crazy about the glass tube, which is an improvement...but I feel like it's so heavy and fragile. I wish it was a plastic tubular bottle.

I first discovered this SPF moisturizer in a Devita sampler kit and liked it so much I ordered the full size version. I've been using it daily for over a month now, and it is the best spf 30 moisturizer I've ever used (and I've tried tons)! I have combination skin that is acne prone & reacts to many products. I've been looking for a higher spf lotion that is all natural & will not make me break out or smell funny, and DevIta's Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30+ is it! It's hydrating, protects me from the sun, & gives my face a bit of glow. I add Dr. Haushka's transluscent bronze concentrate (another all-time favorite) over it & my skin looks radiant. I highly recommend it!

I recently bought this sunscreen and was let down. Yes, it is very inexpensive. Yes, it has a good safety rating.
I tired this sunscreen three times. My face did get red upon application, my skin itched a little during the day and my makeup application did not look as nice as when I use, my tried and true, Marie Veronique.
Marie Veronique does cost $40. It will outlast the Devita so the price is no issue with me.
Marie Veronique contains less ingredients and no nano particles which is very appealing to me.
If you have properly prepared your face, the Marie Veronique will provide a great makup base.
I think the MV sunscreen is a superior product.

Definitely my HG sunblock! I used to use Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer but the silicone in it clogged my pores. :( I have super, super cloggable pores and I break out if anything irritates my skin at all. But this hasn't broken me out! Seriously amazing! Very cosmetically elegant and love that it's now in a glass pump bottle. It doesn't leave a white tint on my face, but I'm pretty pale (around NC20). Price is a bit steep but I'm willing to dish it out on a good, silicone-free sunblock that doesn't break me out or clog my pores.

This is my favorite product of anything I have. I never liked to wear moisturizer before this product. This is light, makes my skin look beautiful, and is not oily or greasy. I have acne prone skin and this does not cause me to break out. The sunscreen in it does not make my face white.
For someone with acne-prone or oily skin looking for a natural, semi-affordable product with a physical sunscreen, this is unbeatable. I also mix two pumps of this with one pump of noahs naturals bronzing fluid for a daily tinted moisturizer. I just cannot say enough about this product.

Finally, a Fall/Winter HG sunscreen! I didn't care for this in warmer weather, so I held onto it with the intention of trying it again when the weather cooled off, and I'm so glad I did. It has been wonderful; I have been wearing it daily with no breakouts/clogged pores. It is fragrance-free but it has a lovely smell on its own, and the texture is light and it dries matte. I have been wearing Elizabeth Arden's mineral powder over it and my skin looks luminous and nearly flawless...not bad for 40! I love the new pump packaging, too. I will definitely keep on using this. Who knows, maybe it'll be a friend to my face come Spring? :-)

This product is amazing. I am very aware of the dangers of chemicals in most mainstream sunscreens. The beauty of this product is that it is a healthy AND effective sunscreen. There is no smell, no weight, no greasy residue or white cast and is moisturizing. What more could you want? Also, it is now housed in a stylish tall glass bottle with a pump (much better than plastic). I feel good knowing this product is effective and safe.

Let me start by saying. . if you love and can tolerate chemical sunscreens, wear a chemical sunscreen. But if you prefer to be as natural as possible or if you have sensitive (rosacea, acne prone, etc) skin, try this stuff. No, you can not be a professional surfer wearing this. . it's meant for everyday wear not long time use laying on a beach and swimming in the ocean. Although it did protect me all week long on vacation and I was outside in the sun all day everyday without a hat on. So for the person who said they still got freckles, maybe they didn't put enough on or reapply like you're always supposed to do with sunscreen (although I did NOT reapply on vacation and was fine. . and I have rosacea, so the sun really freaks out my skin).
It's amazing. My skin is super reactive and this actually calms it! It is one of the only things (beside metrocream) that doesn't accentuate my flakes. It goes on like a luxurious skin cream and feels how I would imagine creme de la mer to feel but probably better. The high percentage of zinc calms sensitive skin and prevents breakouts so it's wonderful for acne prone skin. Zinc is good for you and this has a pure form of it I believe.
Their customer service is also wonderful. I emailed them several questions that the skincare board had and Devita emailed me back a few time with super lengthy, highly detailed replies. If anyone wants a copy of the emails please feel free to PM me.
There are no preservatives in this product. Some have a problem with that and I can understand why. However, they have repackaged the product so it's in a dark, glass pump container and it's lovely! This deals with contamination issues. I'm so glad there's no preservatives! I see this as a very good thing!!! Just toss the product after 3-4 months (you'll probably use it up by then anyway).
I wish I could give it 10 lipsticks. I'm so sad it has such awful reviews. Please trust my review and try it for yourself. I'm SUPER picky and my skin is super finicky. This stuff is incredible and I would glady pay double for it.
Edited to add: Devita said they did not change the formula, just the packaging. So to the reviewer who said it's too heavy. . maybe you just got a bad or old bottle.

This product does feel good , is natural and does not leave a white cast, seems perfect but for one thing...... and that is it doesn't really provide good sun protection, I wore this under makeup for a while and even though I avoid the sun, I could tell it wasn't all that effective by the look of my freckles and how they were getting darker even with what little sun exposure , ( by little I mean just walking for a few blocks ).
as far as cost goes, I wouldn't buy it at full price at wholefoods, get it Vitacost for about 15.00.

Soooo bummed that this no longer works for me at all. This really has been an HG for me for years and sadly to say since their repackaging (love the pump sleek bottle) the formula is just now waaay too heavy, assuming from all the glycerin in it for starters. NO matter how little I use or even on a damp face this product never full absorbs in my skin and leaves my face feeling heavy sitting on top. In this summer heat that only caused me to be oily and breakout. So sad to have to stop using it but guess nothing lasts forever. I now use the Kimberly Sayer Ultra Light SPF 25 which is about the only other natural full of antioxidants spf on the planet that doesn't clog/is too heavy for my super fussy skin. I only see Devita possibly now workig for my dry skin types. Amazing ingredients on paper but just a big fail for me now!
