I'm a little confused because I bought this after receiving a sample. It worked great the first and second time...But now I'm noticing that it really does nothing... I dont see increased breakouts, and no reduction in them either. I like the sensation, but thats about it.

I love to use the Blue Flame as a spot treatment for blemishes - overnight or for a few hours.

Also, it is great on the nose area/T-zone to de-clog pores and break-down black heads.

NOT FOR THE SENSITIVE - and do not over use.

used a sample and i love it for spot treatments over night. this thing dries the area up, and brings the pimple up to the surface.

My skin is very oily and prone to regular though minor breakouts. The first time I used this mask I sucked in my breath in much the same way as the first time I tried Listerine Pocket Pack breath freshener. It's a little alarming that first time, but the second time and every time thereafter I found the sensation very refreshing and pleasant.

My skin felt great after using, my breakouts seemed fewer and farther between, and as an overnight spot treatment the mask produced great results for me. I would love to buy this again and again, but at this time my budget does not allow it. $37 for approximately two ounces is just too much when you're sort of poor.

I got a sample of this from Beautyhabit.com and after all the fuss over it and how long I've wanted to try it, I'm really not too impressed. First off, the sample was tiny so I didn't want to use the whole thing up once by applying it over my entire face. Besides, I had read on here that a lot of people said its too harsh for their whole face. So, I tried applying it on a zit that had popped up the day before. I went to bed that night, dreaming of waking up to a greatly reduced zit! Well I woke up, rinsed it off, and, it was still there and it didn't look much better. I was disappointed. I tried it again the next night, no change. It got rid of some redness and it dried it up a little, but for $37 a jar, it doesn't work well enough for me to even consider buying it. I've tried tons of masks, but Queen Helene's Mint Julep is still the best in my book no matter what!

Like a previous reviewer, I just *cannot* get it out of my head that this smells like a Port-A-Potty! I keep getting free samples of this and tried it many times on my extremely oily skin. No matter how I tried, I couldn't seem to get it into my pores where it would do the most good. It may even have caused breakouts (which I normally don't get). I won't buy this and I've tossed the rest of my samples ... there's so many other great-smelling masks that do a good job.

I only use this to "spot treat" pimples. I apply it once I discover one and it gets rid of it fast every time. I think that if I used it on my entire face it would be too drying, but it is perfect for what I use it for.

I like this. It has the same citrusy fresh scent of Dr. Brandt's pore effect, and does wonders on my skin's appearance.. dries up oil and zits, and leaves a vibrant glow. Excellent mask, although rather pricey..

loooove it. i hate that i have to order it online and wait for it, but i love it. i wouldn't buy it again, because my aspirin mask is all i need now. i have a lot of the tub left, and i use it for overnight spot treatment because the aspirin mask would flake away

This is a really good mask for oily skin. I use it a lot as a spot treatment for big zits, and it helps dry out and shrink down the pimple.

A great mask for people with oily skin, or those who live in humid climates. Absolutely not for anyone with any sensitivity or dry skin! The smell is heavenly, the texture is great and I love the light blue color. This mask is a deep cleansing mask with a lot of anti-acne properties. I use it when I need a rescue from a pending breakout.

For a while Astara masks were selling like hotcakes at Sephora stores. So, being the makeup junkie I was, I tried every one of them, including this one. First, let me warn you, this mask burns!! I don't have sensitive skin and found it to be painful. But, I figured that my pain would be well rewarded- that a glowing, fresh skin would appears after washing away the blue mask. But, I was wrong- it did absolutely nothing for my skin- except burn it. There are other masks that are far superior to this one. Save your money.

I bought this because of two Sephora samples I received, which I loved. But after purchasing the full size for $37.00 and using it several times, I have to agree this is neither the best nor the worst -- the same effect could probably be gained with less expensive products. It does have a very stimulating feel at first, almost antiseptic, but doesn't do anything exceptional that I can tell. Just a fairly decent mask at a high price. However, I should mention that I have normal to dry skin and am middle-aged -- for younger, oily, or acne prone skin, this may be a dream tonic.

Update 3/17/04 Actually, I might repurchase this. I've used it more lately, during some PMS breakouts, and it's pretty a pretty good tonic -- feels good and seems to help tame the breakout a lot.

Neither the best, nor the worst mask I've used. On a scale of 1-10, I give it about a 6.5 -- 7.0. i would buy it again, but there are masks that show a greater degree of clarity immediately upon removing (which i like to see; I *did* see a greater clarity of skintone, just not as much as with, say, Sedona's Blossom Pollen). This mask does does a nice job of removing dirt and oil from pores, and doesn't break me out. It also feels nice, and doesn't leave the skin too dry or taut. Also: call me a kid, but i love the color of it! It's definitely a high quality mask that removes impurities, if this is what you're looking for.

My Commitment Kit just arrived today and I had mixed feelings about trying the masks out, since their masks didn't get outstanding ratings. But, I am really happy to have ordered this. If you have read my previous reviews you will know that I had acne from an allergic reaction. The acne has gone with the help of Retin A but I noticed all over my cheek area are these tiny dark dots that look like blackheads/ oily clogs. My aesthetician explained that they were my pores and that that's what the skin looks like after acne. Unconvinced and not really satisfied with PTR's Sulfur Cooling Masque I decided to get this kit. I am amazed! After first use the dots on the cheeks are gone and a lot of the blackheads on my nose are gone too. My porcelain smooth complexion is coming back. I can't wait 'til I use it the next time. I have noticed as other MUAers did, that the Blue Flame and especially the Violet Flame are very potent masks and you can feel them working immediately upon application therefore you really only need a thin layer- Caution: the Violet Flame mask should not be applied on sensitive skin, I have semi-sensitive skin and found the tingling sensation a bit discomforting. Overall, it was money well spent :)

My review for this wonderful product is loooong overdue! This is a HG acne fighting oil-blasting product for me! The Blue Flame mask does an amazing job at absorbing oil and drying up blemishes. I like to leave it on for 30 minutes for the best results(but, I do not have sensitive skin, my skin can take just about anything! lol! :P). My face is smoother, less oily, and much clearer when I use this mask. I recommend using it at least once a week for those with oily skin. If you are very acne prone and very oily, I'd rec'd more often like 3 times a weel like I do in the summer. I use this mask in conjuction with the other products in the Astara line. I like to use the Daily Refining Scrub(exfoliates) before using the Blue Flame mask. Retails for around $37, but worth every penny in my book. Although many compare it to QH mint julep mask, I do not agree. There is no comparision. I have both masks and the Blue Flame is much stronger and provides more impressive results.

If I hadn't already tried this product as a sample, I would never have spent so much money for it. The packaging is awful. No box, no seal, nothing. I didn't know what tampering could have been done. I really wish they would change it. Despite that, I bought it. I love it. It is strong, that is why it works. I don't use it daily, just went problems pop up. I am a fan.

I received this as a sample with a Sephora order. I thought this mask would eat my skin off before I could get it rinsed off. It was so harsh. I prefer QH Mint Julep mask. Plus it's much cheaper.
