I am definitely in the minority here. I didn't like this at all. Never was a huge fan of the original No. 5 and I liked this one even less. Way too musky for me.

I tested this on my wrist yesterday at Saks, and have to agree that if you never fell for the original No. 5 but aren't willing to give up on it, you might prefer the Sensual Elixir. Lovely bottle, as with all Chanel products.

While not an unpleasant fragrance, I found it to be too heavy on the vanilla for my taste, and after a while that was all I could detect. I could see a lot of resemblace to Allure in the drydown. And, unfortunately, I woke up with a rash on my wrists where this was applied.

I must admit I am not much of a fan of No. 5 EDT. When first sprayed it smells almost like bug spray to me. However, I was told that the EDP, perfume and elixir all smell slightly differently and I completely agree. The EDP is much better, and more powdery; I haven't smelled the perfume yet. I was told that the elixir was designed to smell 'dried down' right from the start, instead of going through phases like most frangrances. I think this is apt - it does seem to smell the same when I first apply it and hours aferwards. However, it does smell different than the EDT and EDP at any time; better, in my opinion. I am becoming very interested in fragrances lately and wear a different one practically every day, but I always apply some elixir before bed. My advice is that even if you don't like the EDT, you should give the elixir a try. (I also adore the bathing powder and am very excited to try the new Eau Premiere).

I went into Nordstrom's to purchase No. 5 for my grandmother's birthday. While waiting for my purchase to be wrapped up I took a whiff of Elixir and I was hooked. It smells just as beautiful when you first put it on as when it dries down and hours after that. Flowery, creamy, soapy, fizzy...Love the classic bottle and the staying power.

Wow...I always thought Chanel No. 5 was a classic for good reason but this blows the doors off! So amazing. When I first saw the ad for it a couple of years ago I thought it was just a gimmick, but then I read some of the reviews here and had to try it. So glad I did! This is the modern way to wear No. 5 -- fresher and more natural smelling than the original. Love the bottle with the stopper, though I'm a little nervous I'll forget to close it all the way. Well done, Chanel!

EDIT: THIS WAS LIKE MY "GATEWAY" SCENT INTO THE REAL THING. NOW THAT I'VE GOTTEN USED TO THE ALDEHYDES IN THIS, THEY AREN'T ENOUGH. I MUST HAVE THE ORIGINAL NO. 5 EDP! This is simply one of the most beautiful scents in my collection. The first few moments after application are pure nose-tickling aldehydes, which over the course of about an hour soften into, first soapy white flowers and, finally, creamy vanilla touched by woods. The aldehydes do recede into the background, but they never disappear fully, lending the whole composition a frothy fizziness--like an ice-cream-and-pink-champagne soda. It is undeniably feminine. Pure pleasure to display, wear, and sniff.

I purchased this yesterday, due to the reviews on this board. It is a warm and nice long lasting fragrance. The staying power is great, and the drydown reminded me of powder. The only thing that I do not like is the packaging. I would purchase this again.

Classic, classy, sexy, elegant, timeless.
Not always but forever.
This, for me, is femininity in a bottle and the best formulation imho is the Sensual Elixir. It is, as it says, the very elixir of No.5's ingredients and blooms on my skin like i have worn the EdP for several hours about 15 minutes after applying. Vanilla and amber are stronger, jasmine, too. Some soapy rose. The sensual freshness of clean women's skin. You just want to come hither and put your nose to her downy neck.
Am i the only one to get cinnamon from it after about 10-12 hrs.? Lovely! And the bottle! Easily the most beautiful bottle in my collection. Modern but still retro-60ies-chic, with its thick transparent glass and the square engraved stopper, a piece of art itself.

Also the bath oil gives a very pure impression of the scent. Even more soapy rose here.

I had not purchased Chanel scents prior to this one - they were too heavy and old fashioned for me. This scent is light almost powdery, very soft and romantic. My husband gave me the bottle for Christmas. I like the gel as I'm not into perfumes that bruise easily. I wear this to work almost every day, my only reason for one less lipstick is that I think it disappears too quickly, but my hubbie says he can still smell it on me at bedtime -so I guess not!

A lighter version of the classic scent that comes in a sleek clear glass bottle and a stopper with the intertwined "c's." It's less soapy than the original on me. I can still detect the aldehydes but that's the best part of # 5.

I just bought my second bottle of Sensual Elixir. It is my very favorite and wear it every day. It is a very soft powdery version of Chanel 5. Love it!

Elixir Sensuelle is like #5 topped with the fizz of champagne to lighten the notes. Sensational!

I LOVE this No 5 Elixir! It smells wonderful and on me it lasts all day. I received a sample and I didn't realize that it was the Elixir, I thought it was the regular No. 5, but there was something lighter about it and it smelled different. It I looked at the sample and then saw that it was the Sensual Elixir and I was surprised at how similar it is to the regular No. 5, but it's warmer and softer. This smells way better on me than the regular Chanel No. 5. I'm asking my husband to get this for me for Christmas.

I love it. It's a very light, subtle fragrance, and the bottle it comes in is classic and pretty. It's one of my favorites.

Beautiful scent! To me, this Elixir smells nothing like the original Chanel No. 5 (which was horrible and headache-inducing on me). This Elixir is softer, lighter, gentler and more natural. It contains an unusually high amount of raw, natural oils (versus the synthetics in the original Chanel No. 5), and I believe this is what gives the Elixir is soothing, natural feel and effect on the senses. It's more natural, and the body and mind (and nose!) accept it more readily. The top notes of this Elixir are sharp for a very brief moment, but then after the liquid dries on the skin it morphs into the softest scent ever. The top notes remind me of a slightly fruity, spicy powder. The middle notes settle down into a soft soapy floral that hugs close to the skin, and are very comforting and calming. The bottom notes that linger by the end of the day are gentle, clean skin scents ... the smell of clean warm skin ... clean GIRL skin .. very feminine ... I can't put my finger on it, but it smells like girl's skin. Anyone who has tried this elixir knows what I am trying to describe. The bottom notes smell like clean skin on a beautiful girl. Incredibly hard to describe, but *wow*! Heavenly. The bottom notes are soft enough to fall asleep to. They just lull you into a soft cloud of comfort and contentment. A little goes a long way with this Elixir, so only apply on pulse points, and the soft scent will travel ... it will morph and waft and envelop your whole being like a gentle whisper. 5 lippies!

Love, love, love this. Perfect for layering or just on its own if you want only the most subtle hints. Although No. 5 is not my all time favourite Chanel fragrance - Coco is - the Elixir gave it a major boost. And the packaging is sooo beautiful! I love the bottle - absolutely beautiful!

This is absolutely the best fragrance I have tried in a long time. I've always loved #5 but couldn't wear it because it would eventually give me a headache. The elixer has all the best qualities of #5. I could bathe in this and not get sick of it. The lasting power isn't the greatest and I wish it came in a spray bottle but I'm still giving it 5 lippies because I love it so much.

I guess it's in my blood to love Chanel. My grandmother could drown herself in Coco and my mother always goes back to No. 19. As a teenager, my "special occasion" fragrance was Allure. I loved it but, one spritz will do you! I always wished it was just a little less...concentrated? Now, I love No. 5. It's classy and classic, not old lady at all in my opinion. But, again...too much out of a spray. Sensual Elixer gives me the right balance. You can only smell it on me if you get close, something I like. While I have a sensitive nose, I am in no way as knowledgable about notes, drydowns, etc., so I can't testify accurately to the difference between this and the spritz. In summary, I love the No. 5 Elixer and will probably not be able to save it for those special occasions!

I LOVE this fragrance. I think it's best to describe it as very warm, soft and comforting. I don't think it's ever overpowering. This is perfect to wear all through the fall and winter. In spring and summer, I usually wear a fragrance that's a bit lighter, but I love No. 5 Elixir so much, I might just wear it year 'round!

I'm one of those folks who is super sensitive to most fragrances and usually stick to Jo Malone. I find Chanel #5 a bit cloying in the EDP but in this Sensual Elixir version it is AMAZING. It is much softer with possibly some light musk notes added. Really fresh and pleasant to wear. I sampled some at Sephora today and so far it has lasted all day. I wish it came in a roll-on but it's so rare that I find a frangrance I love, that I may just have to go back and spring for this one! Also, I think it's perfect for fall.
