I like this. I think its a really good basic, gentle face wash for everyday, and i use this sometimes in the morning(i switch between this and my Clean & Clear morning face wash). I dont really know if it helps with dry skin, because i follow up immediately with my Clinique #2 toner and DDMG. I LOVE the scent, it reminds me of baby shampoo(: My mom initially bought this, but gave it to me because of her extremely oily skin. This is really great for my combination-dry, slightly sensitive skin, but im not really sure that i would repurchase since this is the EXACT same thing as the C&C foaming face wash sensitive skin. Same ingredients, same order, everything. C&C is cheaper, too. this i think is $6, and the C&C is around $3.
EDIT 9/72-Almost done with the bottle, and im pretty sure ill repurchase. Something about it makes me want to use it over again, i think because of the scent, and consistency, and gentleness. I might buy the johnsons head to toe baby wash, i heard its a great dupe for this. bumping it up to a 5(:

Very basic cleanser. Very thick. I don't wear foundation... i only wear blush and sunscreen, and it doesn't remove them very well. I always get blush residue on my cotton round when I swipe over with a toner. This cleanser may be more suitable to use in the morning when you have no makeup to remove. But it's just too thick for my liking for morning use. It doesn't dry out my skin. It doesn't improve my skin nor it worsen it. Wouldn't buy again.

This is a functional, no-frills facial cleanser. I personally found it a bit drying on my combination/oily (summer), combination/dry (winter) skin. It leaves my face feeling tight, with a drying feeling, right after I wash my face.
Sunscreen removal: It gets rid of sunscreen well, and I reserve it for summer days when I am particularly oily.
Makeup removal: I find that it doesn't quite remove a heavy face of make-up, especially when I use a silicone-based primer by itself. A second washing is required,
Tip: I have finally used up the bottle, and I find that it works well as a supplemental cleanser, when one of my other facial washes leave behind traces of makeup.
Scent: This has a plastic, chemical scent. It does not smell altogether natural.
Packaging: I leave this in my bathroom shelf, and I have noticed that the rim of the pump allows air to pass through. Not leak-proof, and the product has slightly thickened due to evaporation.
I do like the fact that it's a rectangular bottle, which makes for effective storage.
Price: The cost has doubled since I purchased the bottle years ago (Currently $10.99 at the local pharmacy.)
Summary: I don't believe that I will repurchase this product. It is functional, and does the job well. I have a feeling that this product is better suited for the teenage/early 20's set. As it is, it is a bit too drying for my early 30's Normal/Combination skin.

I aboslutely love this cleanser. I have been breaking out like crazy but, when I switched back to Purpose, my skin slowly has been getting better. I am not sure if it is because of this face wash or because I have been using tea tree oil after it. Either way I will continue using this product. I just wish they had a different bottle for it instead of the pump, because this is very difficult to transport.

I absolutely love this cleanser! My mom bought this for me a few years ago because I was having problems finding a facial cleanser for my sensitive skin. I tried pretty much every drugstore cleanser, but they all made my face burn. This is one of the only cleansers that is gentle enough for my face. The other one I can use is cetaphil, but this one removes makeup.

This cleanser is amazing. Removes makeup, doesn't irritate skin and doesn't dry it out. The only cleanser I keep repurchasing.

I just started using it 3 weeks ago , before this cleanser i used Cetaphil antibacterial cleanser it was okay but i later found out it contains petrolatum ,the ingredient that petroleum jelly has and it breaks me out :( and it contains Triclosan which is bad because it can cause cancer, birth defects and weakens the immune system , then i wanted to use cetaphil daily cleanser and it contain castor oil ( i like oil free products) and also parabens which also cause cancer ,., and i really wanted a good daily cleanser to get rid of makeup but also gentle for my skin ,.,then i bought purpose cleanser and it didn't have any bad ingredients on it :) ,.,and it does a good job on taking of all of my makeup , and when i get rid of my mascara it doesn't irritate my eyes which is awesome.,.,it doesn't dry my skin like the cetaphil bar does and it leaves my skin sooo smooth,., I recommend it 100 %
EDIT: I just found out Clean and Clear sensitive skin is the same product as Purpose and it has more product and its cheaper so i'ma switch to that one :)
EDIT: now i found out that the Johnson & Johnson head to toe baby wash is just like the Purpose cleanser ,its cheaper and it has 28 fl oz !!! wow O.O

i have acne-prone combination/sensitive skin. I use this in conjunction with Epiduo, Olay Moisturizer, and Grapeseed Oil. This is one of the best things to ever happen to my face!!!! It cleanses without leaving me feeling stripped. The perfect gentle cleanser.

This is the only cleanser which has significantly made an improvement in my skin over the years and does not break me out. A little background on my skin, it is extremely oily and sensitive. I struggle with the occasional breakout of acne around my period usually. I have used this on and off for 4 years-other brands I've tried that do not compare are cetaphil, cerave, neutrogena rapid clear, clean&clear, etc. I started using this product again to stabilize my skin after a terrible cystic acne breakout that was triggered by a different cleanser. Since then, my skin is back to normal within 3 weeks! Purpose does a great job removing makeup, unlike many sensitive skin cleansers that leave oil and makeup behind. I also like that it leaves my skin shine free and reduces inflammation really well. I recommend this if you have oily, acne prone, or sensitive skin-I will never switch cleansers again. I'm sticking with this HG product for life! The packaging leaves a lot to be desired, but for the price, I do not expect anything fancy. You can buy purpose for $6 at Walmart and that is a small price to pay for better skin clarity in my opinion.

I have been on an experimental roller coaster for a couple of years. I have over the years developed Eczema around my eyes (annoying!) and Seborreic Dermatitis around my brow line and hair line (annoying!) I have tried CeraVe Foaming and CeraVe Hydrating, TriDerma Redness Releif Facial Cleansers. They all started off HG and failed miserably. Something about Niaminacide in skin care really does not sit well with my face (even in a wash off situation) & the TriDerma just simply stung like a Mother F*****er around the most delicate areas (Yes! My Eyes!). I found a bottle of this under my sink and had to break it out of the "Archives" It is been very beneficial and seems to have kept my Eczema at bay. Even better, I can was around my eyes and no stinging! It gets all my make up off without an added make up remover. I have decided to keep it simple and wash with Purpose and moisturize (TriDerma Redness Releif Moisturizer) So Far, I am ok and hope that I can finally stop looking. I have recently begun to use Johnson's Head to Toe Baby Wash for my body Wash and seems to be doing wonders in that department as well. I will keep my fingers crossed..........
Update: Can't use it, eczema flare ups.

I guess I am in the minority but I really do not think this is a good cleanser for sensitive skin, mainly because of the fragrance. I was actually surprised by how strong the scent was. I always thought that the cardinal rule for sensitive skin was to use fragrance free products. After using for just 2 days my skin was very irritated and it will take even longer to recover. Very disappointed. I need to learn my lesson and stop trying new things.

I actually really enjoy this cleanser. It is so gentle yet cleanses extremely well. I like how my skin does not feel dry upon using it either. I have tried many cleansers in my life so far and this is definitely one of my favorites.
However, I probably would not buy this again. It is identical to the Clean and Clear cleanser for sensitive skin, but more expensive. I will be buying the one from clean and clear instead.

After having bad results with Cetaphil and okay results with Olay, I consulted Makeup Alley again and found out about Purpose. I use this in combination with a benzoyl peroxide lotion and an AHA lotion, and I do not get pimples, white heads, etc (with the exception of one every once in a while).
As a face wash, it has a subtle fragrance (nothing too upsetting), but can be a little drying. I have oilier skin (particularly in the Summer), so for me I appreciate this. This face wash does not treat your skin, but is great for a basic cleanser that does not contain a multitude of chemicals and lathers well. I do not break out when I use this, and have been using it for a good five months or so.
MY ONLY main complaint with this product is the packaging. While it is great when it is just sitting on your sink or in your shower, this product does not travel well. At all. It will leak everywhere, and it will be annoying to clean up. Thankfully the cleanser is cheap and easy to replace, but it is still a pain to have to wash everything off.
Will certainly repurchase, but please come up with a better design.

This is my go to cleanser. I love that its gentle so I can use it in conjunction with my Clarisonic for an effective cleanse as this doesn't take off make up completely, you need other removers for those waterproofs and mascara. I use this everyday and so far my combination moderate acne prone skin is behaving. Another thing I love about it is the price! You can't beat that. I used to bypass this cleanser since the packaging looked so boring like it wouldn't do much for me. I found out that really its a simple no fuss cleanser that can clean your skin very well when used with Clarisonic! Love this and would definitely repurchase.

I use Cetaphil which is AMAZING. But I traveled a lot i went to the east coast when i live in LA. When I came back I dint know where my travel size cetaphil was.
So I went to a 10pm target run, I was with m sister and cousin so we were looking around for school stuff when my sister and me were waiting for my cousin to choose her makeup my sister was helping her and i was at the facial wash section looking for a tiny cetaphil. But to my luck there was none it was only the very large ones.
But I have heard of purpose before and have been wanting to try it and I saw the perfect size not tiny but not big so I bought it because it was only $4 which is super cheap.
BTW I was already in LA at this time.
So I bought it and it cleaned really well.
But at that time my cousin made me try a moisturizer that I should put on while traveling cause i'am constantly on planes and i would put the moisturizer after i wash my face.
But once I stopped travelling for a while I stopped using the moisturizer.
It still cleaned really well but would dry my skin a lil bit.
So if you're wondering cetaphil or purpose?
Cetphil.
They both clean really well and the same way but cetaphil moisturizes my face.
And for the packaging SUCKS. I went on an airplane and i taped it and everything.
when I opened my luggage I took it out to see if it dripped or anything. I opened the plastic and I saw like A LOT of it pour out so I wasted my self about 22-28 washes :|

I used to use Cetaphil because it was gentle, but my lil sister bought Purpose and when I ran out of my face wash I used this. I find this to be better at cleaning off a full face of makeup. It also seems more gentle, as Cetaphil has something in it that irritates my eyes and dries out my skin a little more.
I really like this cleanser. My only complaint really is that the packaging SUCKS! I don't mind that it is sort of a lame design graphics wise. My problem is with the actual container this product comes in. It is cheap and if you leave this product in the shower water seeps into the product and ruins the soap. You can remedy this by putting the product up high out of the showers jet, but I think the company needs to redesign the bottle. A facial cleanser should be in a shower friendly container.
Other than that annoyance I HIGHLY recommend you try this product, especially if you like Cetaphil but want something a little stronger at taking off your makeup. :)

I love this cleanser to remove my makeup. It takes EVERYTHING off and it does not irritate my eyes at all. Not sure how it would work just using this to wash my face, but it is super gentle and a great price.

This face wash is AMAZING! I have acne prone skin & sensitive, and nothing ever worked for me. Cause things with the acid for acne tore my sensitive skin up. But once I got this, it completely cleared my skin up! And it's very gentle, but still cleans my skin. Not much of a smell to it, but that's how I like it. The moisturizer that goes with it is amazing as well. I've bought this product ever sense, and I always will. The price is about 3-5 dollars, which is pretty cheap for the results of this. Anyone with sensitive skin would love this product :)

I've been using this cleanser for over a year now, so I figured it was time to write a review:)
I know that this has the same exact ingredients as Clean & Clear cleanser for sensitive skin, and that this one's more expensive.
However, I keep buying it because I love it!
This cleanser does not irritate my super-sensitive, acne-prone skin at all. It does an excellent job of taking off all my makeup (but I wouldn't recommend using it to remove eye makeup because it burns!).
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with this product.
UPDATE: 5/30/13:
I am sad to say that I don't think I'll be repurchasing this product.
My skin has become SUPER oily...to the point of being VERY greasy!
As if that's not bad enough...
Also, I recently had an infected spot near my ear that was hard and very painful to the touch.
I read other comments stating that there is a warning on this product about keeping it away from water "to protect the integrity of the product."
If you're like me, you store your facial cleanser in the shower with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc...I don't open up the bottle and let the shower water run in the face wash, but it's almost impossible to COMPLETELY keep water away from it if you use it while showering.
Thus, I suspect that this was the cause of the clogged pore/hard cyst next to my ear.
Looks like I'm back on the hunt for a good face wash that does not irritate my super sensitive, acne prone skin...
