Note: This review is for the aerosol version, though I also bought the non-aerosol pump version which seems promising as well but I haven't tried it on my whole head yet.
Oh, thank heavens, my search is over! I've finally found my new HG hairspray! My old favourite, Fructis XXL Volume (the non-aerosol version) was recently discontinued and I've gone through many hair days from hell during my search to find a good replacement. I love this stuff! It's a very fine aerosol mist with just enough pressure to help "poof" and add volume to the hair if wanted, it doesn't leave my black dyed hair with a white cast or dried hairspray droplets, doesn't make my hair look wet, and it has amazing buildable hold! With just a fine misting of this or even if I spray a lot but then brush it out, the hair holds its shape but still remains touchable, and with a couple layers, it absolutely doesn't move! Perfect! And it's cheap! I only paid $5.49 CAD regular price for this at Shoppers Drug Mart. I would highly recommend this if you need something that holds a lot of volume, just want strong hold for an up-do, curls or anything else, or even just want a good quality medium hold spray (in which case you'd just use less of it and a bottle will just go further). And as a note, I too have tried the Got 2 Be Glued with poor results (I think that's really more of a spray gel as it's heavy and gritty and only holds as long as it's clumped together, seeing as it loses all hold and feels disgusting as soon as you brush or finger-comb through it). I MUCH prefer this stuff, hands down!
Update 08/02/2010: Sooo, this product was recently changed. I just started a bottle that I bought a few weeks ago and I noticed right away that it's now in a different bottle with a different nozzle and I think the formula has even changed. It now sprays too heavily and unevenly, takes forever to dry, leaves my hair sticky and unstyleable, and doesn't seem to hold as well. Not only that, but I went through the entire bottle in 4 days (due to the poor hold and messy styling, requiring lots of fixes and touch-ups), which is absolutely ridiculous. Why, WHY, WHY?!?!?! Why must companies "fix" things that aren't broke??? I'm bumping my rating down from a 5 to a 2. That's just how displeased I am with the changes. I do have a bottle of the non-aerosol Instant Freeze that I haven't tried yet, so maybe I'll give that a shot. Otherwise my search for a decently prized, super strong hairspray continues. I really wish I could find Aqua Net products in Canada, because I imagine that might fit my needs. If anyone knows if/where I can find Aqua Net hairspray in Canada (locally, not to buy online, because I go through a lot of hairspray and it'd be a huge hassle to order as many or as often as I need to), please message me!!! I've already tried London Drugs, Wal-Mart, Zellers and Superstore as the company suggested (and we don't have a Loblaws here), but none of those places carry it.
Edit: 08/04/2010: I did a bit of reading and it appears that one ingredient they added to the new Aussie Instant Freeze formula is tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E). This in itself could be causing all the problems with the new formulation. Vitamin E is a thick, heavy oil and has no absolutely place in a firm holding hairspray. It should be reserved for serums or moisturizing or conditioning products or in small amounts in shampoos, but never in a styling product expected to give any hold. I do not approve!

I absolutely LOVE this stuff. I recently got a mohawk and have been searching for products to keep it up all day, and this stuff with a little Beyond the Zone Spike It Cement can keep me looking good for days!

I love this WAY better than Got2B Glued Freeze Spray. That stuff just gunks up my hair and does NOT hold all day. Plus the nozzle keeps stopping up, ugh, and for more money than the Aussie Freeze spray, joy.

Aussies Freeze Spray is cheap and works great, dries quickly like a freeze hair spray should and holds all day!

Best freeze spray ever.I love to use this to hold in the crazy hair styles i do and i even use it to hold curls. I have the typical Asian straight can't hold a curl for my life hair in this works my hair does make my hair feel crunchy. But it doesn't flake. I like how the spray comes out and i don't feel like i have to force down the nozzle and it isn't expensive.

I have never been a big fan of Aussie products, but my sister, who is the queen of big hair, recommended their instant freeze hairspray. I have fine hair that has zero volume, so when I curl my hair it looks great for 15 minutes and then it's flat as a pancake and the curls are gone. Then I started using Aussie instant freeze! It's a little sticky, but if you make sure to hold the can far enough away from your hair and spray evenly, your style will stay just the way it is and look great! It doesn't make your hair look like plaster and the smell isn't so bad. And it gives me about a million times more volume than any other hairspray I have ever used. Also, it seems to last pretty much all day, so reapplication isn't usually necessary. And one of the best parts is that it only costs about $2.50 a can, which is amazing considering you can buy a salon brand of similar quality for about $15 or $20. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone looking for serious hold and volume, especially those ladies out there like me with flat hair. Love it!

I LOVE this product! I have been using these for several years and can't believe it is as cheap as it is..I have used higher end hair sprays and to me the only difference is the higher end sprays smell nicer..but this is not bad...just not as sweet as some of those others!

Probably the best hairspary I've ever used. Really does the job it's supposed to - get hair in place and keep it there. I love the continuous spray version because it provides a really even coverage and is easy to apply. It smells pretty good too (as far as hairsprays go), I've gotten compliments on it.

I never really noticed how great this stuff is until I started using another brand and got crappy results. This is what a hairspray should be like. It holds my curled hair all day without that nasty, crunchy result. Just don't go overboard. Plus it's cheap. The next day, your hair won't be all knotty like with the other hairspray I used.

I am very impressed with this hairspray especially considering how cheap it is. It is definitely a strong-hold spray, so a little goes a long way. Even though I have very fine hair that doesn't hold a curl well, I give my hair just a very light once-over with this and that's usually all I need to hold the style all day. Occasionally, I'll lightly spray certain areas once more after a couple minutes, allowing the first application to dry. After two very light coats, I can feel some product in my hair, but it is in no way hard or crunchy. The people who have said this spray makes their hair stiff must be using more than a light application. It's easy to go overboard, so if you sill want some movement to your hair, remember to start out VERY light and add an extra application later if necessary. That's what I like about this - you don't need to keep spraying and spraying to get great hold. My other spray of choice is Treseme Tres Two extra hold, but you need much less product with this Aussie spray.

First, let me say I HATE the aerosol version of this but really like the pump version except for its fragrance. I've used the hairspray on and off for about 20 years - as long as it's been available. The older version in the dark purple was better - it held better and the smell wasn't quite so strong, but this is about the best holding quick-dry spray available at about any price nowadays.

I have shoulderblade length long, thick naturally curly hair. It's layered so that the top doesn't get too weighed down, but even so, it's hard to get much lift up there. I try to clip the top and dry upside down and use hard-hold gel so that I don't have to use any hairspray with it's alcohol. However, when all else fails, and I still need something, this is what I usually resort to. I can spray some on the top, lift it up with a claw-shaped pick, hold for a moment and it's set for the day.

However, I disagree with some of the other reviews about having to wash your hair before you can comb thru it or restyle it. I've always found it was easy to scrunch it out and comb/brush/pick thru if needed. I can go several days between washings even if I've used this every day. I do agree that the aerosol is that way - they perform very differently to me, and maybe that was what some of the others were reviewing.

Overall, I highly recommend it the pump version. You really can't beat it, especially for the money. I just wish they could find a way to tone down its overpowering scent without losing its effectiveness otherwise - that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. (I had been using Bumble and Bumble Holding Spray, Extra Strength, but have recently decided it's cost of at least $16 was ridiculous in today's economy when I don't like it any better than Instant Freeze except for its fragrance).

Love this product. It really has holding power, and that is a huge plus for my straight, flat hair. D: I use it in the morning after I blow dry my hair, and it gives me extra volume and..umph? XD Anyway, I just sorta wish it smelled like the shampoo and conditioners..but it's alright. Tolerable, at least!

This is my favorite hairspray! I really love it. It does just what it says. Freezes my style in place. I like this when I'm wearing long straight extensions that I curl into waves. It is the best hairspray I've found for holding extensions. As with anything, a little goes a long way. Be cautious of overspraying, it will really look bad if you over spray, and there is really no way of working it through without wasking it, because if you try to comb through a spot where you over sprayed you may very well snap your hair off. A light mist gives perfect freezing hold. I love this spray!

I have been using this for years. It's my favorite hairspray. I have super thick, curly hair and it needs alot of "stick" to stay in place. This works. My hair stays exactly the way I want it the ENTIRE day. If you are looking for a hairspray that you can come through, this isn't it. If you want your "do" to stay the whole day, this is the only one that I have found that works...and for the price..you can't beat it.

I have baby fine hair that's colored and highlighted. It did hold my bobbed hair all day, but it also broke it off in the front. Way to strong for my hair. I won't repurchase.
