I really wanted to like this product but I think i'm the only one who didn't have good results from this. Suffering from occasional flare ups every few months I have been looking for something that would help the acne and also my skins all around appearance. This just didn't do it, maybe I am allergic to an ingredient but I broke out 10 X worse than ever. I used it for over a month and still kept getting worse. I stopped using it and after about a week or so it's back to normal. So no I wouldn't personally buy this again, especially at the high price, which would be fine if I was happy with the results.

I have this in the cream and have been very pleased with how my skin looks. It doesn't control the oil, but it helps keep my skin smooth. Will definitely purchase again. EDIT: I switched to the lotion and like it better. Fantastic product!

I pretty much obsessively love all Jan Marini products, and this is no exception. I originally bought the bioclear cream (my skin is slightly on the dryer side), and I ultimately didn't like it and quit using it within a month. A year later I ordered the lotion, and it's wonderful. I use it in conjunction with other products from JM's line, every night, after cleansing with the Bioglycolic cleanser, applying C-Esta Serum and Factor A Plus, but before Transformation Cream, and my skin loves it. I used Retin A for three year prior to this regimen, and while I am a tremendous believer in Retin-A, it was too up and down for me (my skin had occasional freakouts in which it would peel like crazy... very attractive). Great stuff! (oh, one problem with the lotion, however, is the packaging: my pump broke in a week. Lame).

HG Material Ladies! I have hormonal related acne that seems to be persistant rather than just once a month. My skin was just getting worse and worse. I went to the dermatologist and nothing she gave me did anything. I tried BP creams , Salicylic acid and just ended up more dry and more broke out. So I started doing research on Hormonal and follicular acne which most female adults seem to have whether they know it or not. Acne is indeed caused by bacteria trapped in the sebum in the skin. But here's the thing, we don't shed hair or skin cells like we are supposed to. The build up causes acne. You would think manually exfoliating would help but sometimes it just pushes the dead cells back into the hair follicule. So what do you do? Glycolic combined with BHA's. Regular acne meds will do nothing but make you look old and dried out. Benzoyl peroxide damages the skin and makes it hard to heal. Even the FDA is thinking about regulating it in over the counter products.
So where's Jane Marini Bioclear come into play? It has everything you need in this one product to clear your hormonal or follicular related acne. Glycolic
Acid, Salicylic Acid and Azelaic Acid. All will do it's part to clear out the dirt, debris and kill the bacteria. It's also anti--aging which makes it a 5 Lippie. You say it's expensive? Well, with this one product alone, I no longer have to spend a fortune on facials, ace treatments or dermatologists. I use a cheap basic Cleanser, a Glycolic Toner, the Jane Marini Bioclear and a basic eye cream. I do a mask 2x a week just because it feels good.
When starting Glycolics for the first time, I suggest getting a Glower concentration of a Glycolic toner. Glycolics will make your skin break out at first because they are purging stuff from your pores by exfoliating your skin at a faster pace. Basically it renews the top layer of skin revealing a cleaner, clearer and brighter complexion. What makes this product so potent and so worth trying for acne is the fact that the glycolics will prepped the skin for the absorbtion of Salicylci acid which will help kill bacteria and heal the pimples from the inside out. The Azelaic acid is well known in the dermatologist circles as a superior treatment for follicular acne. It also treats Roscaea. It's basically what the drug Finacea is made of.
So this stuff is not cheap. But you don't need a lot. a quarter sixe dollup for your whole face, maybe less. I put this stuff on the first night thinking that here goes another product that won't live up to the hype. In the morning I woke up with 1/2 my acne gone. I mean, nothing there. The rest of my acne had totally flattened out and was minimally red to pink and looked more like a healing wound. My pores were tighter (I got craters people). My skintone was more even and better than anything else, I was not tight or dry like most acne creams would leave me. I know this is not marketing as a anti-acne treatment mainly because not everyone's acne is treatable in the same way as hormonal type acne.
So after consistently using this night and day (Wear lots of sunscreen in the day, Glycolics can leave melasma without sun protection). In 3 weeks, I'm acne free, my skin is brighter and smooth and acne scars are faded by about 70%. I'm not only calling this my Holy Grail, I'm calling this cream a miracle. I even wrote Jan Marini to thank her personally for this product. I've never written anyone to rave about a product before. I'm so elated, thrilled and incredibly impressed.
If you break out initially, please stick with this cream. If you have more oily skin go with the lotion. Her Bioglycolic products used together cna make even more of a difference. I'm currently using MD Forte every other night and when I'm done with my bottle, I'm switching completely over to Jane Marini. If she ever discontinues this cream, I will be heartbroken.
Since I've had such huge success with this one product alone, I'm thinking about a Glycolic peel to even more rapidly improve my skin. I'm sold on the AHA/BHA combo. It's potent.

Been using it for almost 6 wks now, but my moderate acne still the same. I thought the purging cleared up already for 2 days...and then I'm back again having crazy pimples all over again, chin, cheeks and forehead. Bummer!!! I have tough rhino skin and very oily, still it dried me out big time esp around the mouth just like Retin A gel. I have lots more acne marks now than before. I'm so frustrated, I don't know what's going on wrong. I started with about 10 cyst acne the first week of using Bioclear. It's a disaster. I don't know what's going to happen next. I've had acne since I was 15 yrs old and I'm going to be 27 soon. I have big hope for Jan Marini.....
UPDATE: OK, It's been 2 months now since I started bioclear. I can't use it everyday, so basically every other day or I would stop for one whole week vice versa. I'm still flaking everyday due to other acne medication altho I do have rhino thick skin. Anyway, I'm having pms time again, and it seems the Bioclear does works now!!! I only get whiteheads, easy to pop and they heal faster than usual. It takes 2 months for me to see result. I still do breakout everyday everytime I wash my face in the night or when I wake in the morning. My acne condition just look better. I'm still waiting the red marks from the purging to fade away soon. I also still use DIACNEAL and DHC acne spot therapy at night time. I use the Diacneal to fade the red marks, also resurface the skin. I use DHC acne spot therapy (which is surprisingly it's pretty good, lol) to kill the bacteria deep down, especially after you pop the pimples or if U see any fresh red bumps. A friend who is an esthetician told me to use either sulfur or benzoyl peroxide on that pimples after you finish popping them. I didn't know about this, that's why in the past I always get pimples around that "popped" area the next day. Cos, the bacteria spreading their germs. DHC acne therapy contains sulfur. So, overall it's a great combination. I'm happy with Diacneal, too. This is my 3rd tube. Maybe, I'm going to purchase Factor A plus soon. Overall: My purging takes forever and it hurts my skin, a lot of irritation. I do recommend to use a gentle cleanser and toner to use with Bioclear.

Can't live without this stuff. I use this in the morning, and the BP 10 at night. But this stuff makes my skin glowy. And I swear, it has diminshed my acne scars.

EDIT: I don't think this works for my skin anymore. I have used a few tubs of this with ever decreasing results. The last container was baught online and so perhaps that has something to do with it but I found no decrease in pimples and little decrease in blackheads and whiteheads.
It made my skin red and inflamed. I am now using more home made products out of natural things like almond meal and neem oil.
My skin looks ok at the moment. Don't know how long it will last but glycolics have stopped working and Jan Marini's stuff is really expensive. So I'm not buying.

I just ordered my third bottle of this stuff. I think i wanted to wait till i saw results to review this and eventually forgot that i had to. Anyhow, i have been using the Jan Marini line for almost a year now. I use the bioglycolic oily skin cleansing gel, bioclear serum (the cream is too oily for me), sunscreen and the zyme mask+cleanser. Jan Marini is the only line that is giving me results and clear skin. I do feel that i need to continously use this product since i have congested skin but for such great results, i keep going back to this product. If i slack off and dont use it for a couple of days it shows on my skin but the zits are ,much less and disappear quicker if i dont pick at them. THe pores have really truly shrunk and my skin overall looks much better. Like i said, i am also using other products in the line so that may make a difference but i really like this product, and i dont even need spot treatments any more. Hope it stays this way.

The only "treatment" I have ever used that actually produces a noticeable result. It makes my skin plump, moisturized and slightly pink and dewy. It stings a little if I use it every day. Great for under makeup and sunscreen.
Age: 19-24 Skin: Combination, Medium Hair: Brunette Eyes: Green
AMAZZZING!!!! at first i had intial breaking out....but after a week or so... amazing clear complexion.. blemishes dimininshed by 75%, and my skin never looked better..my skin looks less blotchy, even and less pigmented. you must try this. it tingles when you put it on, but its because it is working. I use this every night for past 6 months great results, i will continue to use.

I've tried many, and this is the best exfoliater I've ever encountered. My esthetician recommended it for me because I have (TMI) deep, deep pores that are hard to clear out. I use Bioclear every night after cleansing and my skin has been clear for over a year.
I will caution that it is kind of harsh (aka it can sting) so you really need to test it out and make sure it's suitable for your skin type. I highly recommend.

This review is for the Bioclear Lotion. This contains: Hyaluronic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, and Azelaic Acid.
You're instructed to only use this at night during the first week of use. I'm almost done with week two. It initally stung at first but after a while your face does get used to this product. It definitely helps keep my occasional acne at bay. I have combo/normal skin. The clear bottle design is a plus - that way you find out how much is left. But so far, I barely made a dent. Great way to keep clear skin. It also treats wrinkles and age spots.

A resounding YES that I would buy this again. This product alone has made a tremendous difference in the texture of my skin. Has totally smoothed it out and other than hormonal acne, has allowed my skin to remain clear. Even though I have oily skin, I use the cream version and have had no breakouts from it. The cream version also allows me to skip moisturizer over it so I am not piling products on my skin. HG HG!

I found this when I was looking around for products that had azelaic acid in them. After much experimentation, I found that my skin/acne really responds well to this ingredient but the prescription strength I get from my doc is way too strong for anything but spot treatment. This contains salcylic, glycolic, and azelaic acid. After several weeks, my old acne scars are almost completely gone, the pores on my nose are supertight, and I have no new breakouts. I'm very satisfied with this product. Yes, it does sting and has that strange itchy sensation that comes from the azelaic acid, but I have found that after about 10 minutes this goes away. One suggestion is to put it on well before you lay down to go to sleep, because the sting/itch will drive you wild and you will feel compelled to wash it off. One thing I'm not completely satisfied with is the packaging and the price. The little glass bottles are not friendly for shipping (already received one broken) or for clutzes like me who tend to bounce them off the bathroom counter every once in a while. I'll break one eventually! Also, the price is pretty outrageous. At Skinstore.com, I paid $40 for 1 oz. I would at least expect 2 oz. at that price. However, it is really working so well for me, I would pay it again since I have yet to find it's equal. This and the Bioglycolic cleanser are very likely going to become staples for me.

This part of the review is for the cream only
I only used this for a week but I purged from it and it was way too greasy for my once oily skin. It didnt sting upon application except on broken skin and it has no frangrance at all.
As I couldnt put up with the greasiness of the cream I switched to using the lotion. Maybe if your skin is dry or normal-dry, you should opt for the cream, I was contemplating on using the cream for winter but after using the lotion, I thought that a richer moisturiser will do so I sold the cream.
I cant say that it has cleared my acne 100% as I still get them at that time of the month, but after a month of using the lotion, which has the consitnecy of a serum, it has improved the texture of my skin and removed some less stubborn balckheads on my nose and forehead.
Initially it dried my skin, so I used it once a day then built it up to twice a day unless I just didnt have time to wait the 30minutes.
Altough my skin is pretty normal but still acneic, I would carry on using the lotion than the cream as I find it absorbs into my skin better.
I dont particularly like the bottle as it doesnt have a cap but other than that, its clean and hygienic.
Edited nov 2007- I will not repurchase this product again as I dont find that it works on my skin anymore

The skin board has been raving about this product for years but I have always been hesitant. After months on tetrinoid and azelex etc not much was working. I decided to give this a try. Not sure what it does for acne per se, but it makes my skin feel really nice, exfoliates well to clean it without stripping it. I really love this cleanser and hope it helps me as much as it has helped others....

This product is great for acne. One of my absolute favorites
Age: 30-35 Skin: Combination Hair: Brown Eyes: Blue
Not bad, but it stings and dries out my skin, even though I put on moisturizer afterwards. It's better than most Glycolic/BHA products, but my skin just didn't like it. Do your research: Nearly all glycolic preparations are bad for your skin.

This is truly a heavy-duty five-star skincare product. I have switched to Bioclear from IS Clinical Active Serum (another aha/bha product) because Bioclear is cheaper and it works better because of the higher acid percentages. It stings mildly on application but wears off to reveal glowing, CLEAR skin. This is my secret weapon in my battle with hormonal acne. I have combo skin and I get big, deep, red cysts around my period and this has single-handedly (along with the Bioglycolic cleanser) controlled my hormonal acne. If the cysts are not stopped dead in its tracks from forming, it is much much smaller in size, and is resolved in a day or two. My pores and skintone have also become much more refined. I can't live without this product and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with blemish issues.

When I first bought this cream I was a little skeptical, but I have been won over with its effectiveness. I can even use it as a spot treatment on a breakout.
I tried to save money by buying Alpha Hydrax cream, but it wasn't as effective for providing immediate relief from fresh breakouts. (In my experience)
I just received my second jar via webstore; I will prob. use it sparingly. It will prob. last about a year. Even though it is expensive, it is worth it -figuring $55 for one year treatment.
