Not the easiest polish to apply, needs a really light hand. Took 3 coats to get opaque and non-streaky, it levels out then, but takes really long to dry.
If you can put up with that, the colour is really beautiful, the perfect shade of pinkish-white.

This is my favourite natural, nude nail colour! It's hard to find sometimes because it seems to sell pretty well. Many of the other nude shades from Essie are too pink for my skin (I'm looking at you Mademoiselle and Ador-a-Ball). Yes, Essie nail polishes are thin so you are going to need a couple of coats. After getting used to the consistency, you'll get a nice result out of two coats.
Love this!!

I own--and love--dozens of Essie polishes. Unfortunately, Ballet Slippers is not on the "love" list. It's way too sheer/watery to be opaque, yet too streaky to be worn as a sheer polish. I used Perfect Formula's Pink Gel Coat as a base, applied 4 thickish layers of Ballet Slippers, and finished with Seche Vite top coat. I still have spots on my nails that are not opaque. Ugh! So frustrating. It would be a beautiful, milky pink if it the formula didn't suck. Definitely a shade that doesn't live up to the hype for me.

This was my first Essie nail polish and I can say I have not bought an Essie polish since. I bought this polish about a year ago when I first found out about them because of all the hype. I chose to get , what I thought was a subtle pink, my mistake! It takes about 4-5 coats to even see ANY color. Very disappointing! Also, it takes FOREVER to dry (like an hour) Ughh way too long! I do want to try other colors from Essie, but $8 is kind of expensive just to regret buying another one of these almost clear, slow drying polishes.

This is the first Essie polish I try and I'm disappointed. It took 3 coats to get it opaque and it could have used a 4th one. It was hard to get it applied evenly.

This was the first Essie nailpolish I ever bought. It was pricey but figured what the heck. So I bought this (ballet slippers) and i love the whitish pink natural color. I didn't like however that i had to apply like 4 coats to get it opaque.

Horrid formula. Thin, streaky, and takes forever to dry and harden up. I tried and tried to get Ballet Slippers to work for me because I love the color, but I'm not patient enough for Essie's tiny brushes and thin formulas. If you have a few hours to kill, you could probably make this work with a very light, steady hand. Just apply a base coat, wait for that to completely dry, apply an extremely thin layer of polish, wait for that to completely dry, then do the same with 1 or 2 more layers, followed by a top coat. Then don't do anything with your hands for the rest of the day. I don't think Essie polishes are worth the trouble in the least. I now use OPI's Sweet Heart and love it.

I love this color BUT i HATE the formula. I am pretty good at applying polish but this is just impssibly streaky. I might have to try its opi similar Bubble Bath.

I totally agree with bradleyscat. WORST nail polish I have ever owned! After 2 carefully applied coats, this still looked streaky and horrible! I decided to chuck it in the trash and go over the whole thing with another nude color I had by Sephora. (Saved my manicure.) I would never buy this again, nor recommend it to anyone. What boggles my mind is, I have seen this particular shade as an "Allure's Best of Beauty" choice award winner more than once... and out of all the fantastic nail polish shades that Essie has... why Ballet Slippers? The color would be nice on certain skin tones if it didn't apply so streaky, but there's just no getting around this horrible formula. I would rate this a "0" if I could.

I got this as a gift from my husband who knows I like non-flashy polishes. At first I thought it was too streaky but today I figured out how to get it right. First I applied 2 coats of Sally Hansen Hard As Nails (I use the pink tinted one but it probably makes no difference if it's the clear one). Then once it was dry I applied 1 coat of the Ballet Slippers. I applied the Essie quickly and didn't even try too much to make the coat thin because it's already taking time away from studying to do my nails. It looked a little streaky when I first applied it but once it dried in a few minutes I noticed the polish had evened itself out.
I don't know if this method works with just 1 coat of the Sally Hansen or if it would look good with 2 coats of the Essie. This is just how I did it.
It is somewhat similar to Mademoiselle but less see through so if you like Mademoiselle I think you might like this one too.

Worst nail polish formula I have ever used. Extremely watery/messy and sheer. I'm never buying this brand of polish again.

I love the color of this polish, but it is very sheer, and I'm an opaque girl. I got the opaque-ness I wanted with 4 coats. It looks very pretty with my medium skin tone. I will be wearing this again, I'm patient enough to apply 4 coats, but I know not everyone is.

This is a color that does not look great on me. The color is flat and too pink. Some of Essie's colors just don't work for me and this is one of them. I would try it on a nail if you can. See how it works with your skin tone and taste, generally.

for the last few years this has been one of my more used polishes. Yes, as other reviewers state, it goes on streaky- but!! it self-smoothes itself somehow, and all it really takes is some patience, skill, and to keep the brush coated with polish to get a great, no mistake manicure. I particularly love it on top of a french manicure to make it look more natural :) I am halfway done with my first bottle, and have ordered another off Amazon.com because you can find essie polishes for way cheaper!! like I am getting one for like $3.50! yay! such a great classy elegant color :)

Initially I was disappointed by Essie Ballet Slippers as I found it too sheer and uneven but now it is one of my favorite nail polishes to wear. It definitely needs a base in my experience, I use Essie Grow Stronger, in order for it to apply evenly. Two coats of Ballet Slippers is perfect for me. It's a pale milky color with a hint a pink, kind of looks like you dipped your nails in paraffin wax treatment. I suggest putting a layer of Essie Kisses & Bises on top, reminds me of pearls. Really pretty!

I loved the color but only in the bottle. when you try to paint your nails with it it goes on streaky and since its such a light color you have to do several coats. This particular color was not my favorite i only bought it for the name.

I was getting OPI Bubble Bath on my manicure during the summer but couldn't find it in my area so opted to buy this one. Although I like the color-whitish pink- it's not as sheer as the OPI and it doesn't stay on longer than 48 hours for me. Very disappointing and would not buy an Essie polish again for this reason. I'll stick to OPI.

Not sure why I waited so long to buy this color. I love white/pink sheers and I thought this was just going to be another blah sheer pink. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. Its pink, but so light and not bubble gum (which has its time and place). Not white at all or so opaque you feel your in the 60's. Perfect groomed manicure you get with this one. Yes, the first and second coat can give you issues as with ANY sheer polish but after the 3rd coat, your good to go. Good to go.......Essie's quick dry top coat is amazing too, btw. Brush is small but when fanned out on rim of bottle, its just what you need. Such a pretty girl color. Its fall, but I was in the mood for something understated and this fit the bit. Its more than just a MNBB shade but less than a "Pink". Would buy again for sure.
