This is a great mascara, I find it does just what I want it too, gives my lashes definition and also length. I've become a huge fan of brown mascara as it seems to give the appearance of thicker lashes, and this in brown looks great for day or night! At night I apply 3-4 layers but thats me, heavy on the eye make up. But for day to day I just go with 1 layer! Will buy this again (in brown)!

This mascara is really nice...in case you get used to the brush! If you do this mascara will make your lashes look really good

I love this mascara! It really darkens and lengthens my lashes giving a sultry look to my eyes in super quick time. I find it's much more effective than similar products on the market such as YSL Singulier (which is double the price!). The only downside is that it can be quite messy, I usually have to wait a minute or two before I can blink, and it can be a bit of a nightmare to remove. For this reason I wouldn't recommend it as an everyday mascara, but is perfect for those occasions when you want to channel your inner Bardot!

there is a trick to putting this mascara on, u have to use the end with the short bristles first to deposit the mascara, give it a wiggle and sweep up, always sweep with the handle of the brush on the outer corner of your eye. then use the longer bristles to comb and seperate your lashes. it curls my lashes without using a curler. this is pretty good stuff, although i wont repurchase again, i like trying different things.
UPDATE: ive been using this mascara for a few more weeks and it is seriuosly good stuff! (ive added another lippie) its good coloured black, has a semi gloss to it and doesnt flake...possible repurchase.
EDIT: this does everything, curls with using a curler, lengths, deep rich brown. my drug store HG mascara. def repurchase!!

goes on pretty although the "liner" effect is debatable. Yes, I'm probably not using it to the full effect but who has time before school in the morning to mess around with a silly concept like this? The look is definitely not worth the effort.
And I have one major problem with this crap that makes this mascara completely unwearable. Within.....a few hours all the tips of the mascara fall off leaving me with stubby black lashes with my blonde tips showing through. That means you can't even do a natural look with a thin coat. Not pretty at all! Do not buy this stuff!

The brush is a little awkward to use, I still haven't managed to perfect using it. Its directions tell me to use the part of the wand with shorter bristles to "deposit mascara at base of lashes for liner effect", but it doesn't really work. However, the longer bristles work well in seperating and defining the lashes. It's not particularly long lasting and its formula is kind of light, so for people who want softer lashes this might be for you :)

This is a great daytime mascara, i personally haven't noticed any liner effect, but i'm not too put out by that. It lasts well, it defines and lengthens my lashes perfectly without any clumps, and can be built up to look a little more dramatic - though not on a night on the town scale - provided you don't leave too long between coats. If you put in a little effort it does wing out your lashes at the edges, but the same could be said for most mascaras. I use this for work & the weekend, and i find it perfect.

For a change, I have found a mascara I REALLY like!
First, I must tell you that I don’t use any mascara without my Shiseido The Makeup Mascara Base. It is a terrific help with application and curl retention. So if you don’t use this base, your results with the Bourjois Liner Effect Mascara may not be as positive as mine.
With my fine blonde lashes that are nearly invisible without mascara, I find that I need a formula that is on the wet side to get results. I can’t get dry formulas to apply, I think because my lashes do not provide enough resistance to get the product to transfer…I hope this makes sense. This mascara is PERFECT for me, it is wet enough for color deposit but not so wet that it is clumpy and just generally messy.
First, I apply my Shiseido base, then at least two coats of mascara. I can add additional coats to get a more dramatic look without any major clumping. I use the side of the wand with the short bristles first and “wiggle” it at the base of my lashes to get the liner effect--this really works! I then use the longer bristles to draw the mascara through the rest of my lashes and…WOW…they look great! I do comb through my lashes with a metal Japonesque eyelash comb as I go, just in case there is a bit too much mascara.
So far, this is the only mascara that has given me good results without having to layer it with another. The only time I would consider layering something else over it is to get the “bluer” color of my Lorac Visual Effects mascara. I have the Boujois in “Bleu” (blue) and it is definitely blue but it is not as blue as the Lorac in Midnight Blue.
The combination of the base and this mascara take a little extra effort to remove but I purchased makeup remover pads in CVS (their own brand with aloe) and they take care of it quickly.
I have worn this all day with no flaking or smudging. I’m not sure if I can give the credit to the mascara or the base but, in any case, the results are excellent. My lashes look fuller and longer, have a nice curl, and I get the bonus of not having to apply eyeliner!
I would recommend this to anyone who is not totally happy with the mascara they are using--this just might become your HG as it has become mine!
UPDATE 8/27/09 As I have just found my new HG, Lancome Definicils mascara, I have deducted one lippie from this one, as it can't compare. But it is still a good mascara and is definately cheaper.

I really really like this mascara (: I got it as a gift from a friend for my birthday and I initially chucked it into the depths of my makeup bag because I thought it wouldn't add much volume for some reason and I still had half a tube of Benefit Bad Gal left. I finally tried it last week and I'm in love. It's a very wet formula, it's not sticky but it's a very liquid-y cream sort of texture. The brush was a little awkward as I'm used to the massive fuzzy kind of brushes, but once you get used to it it's fine. I have long-medium length, very thick eyelashes and this really lengthened them, it was alright in terms of volume but I had to use two coats to get them looking fuller. I'm not sure about the 'liner effect' it claims to do, but my eyes looked wider and more doe-like after I'd applied this so that might be what it's on about. It's also amazing for my lower lashes, mine are very long and it made them look almost Twiggy-esque, but that's not for everyone. Overall, I really like this and I'll probably repurchase.

After spending $17 on this product I thought I would get amazing lashes - I was born with short, straight ones and was looking for a way to boost the curl and volume. The wand reminded me of some of Maybelline's mascaras and after one application I've decided to return it. My lashes are still flat as a board and the wand was super messy - I had to remove the excess with a q-tip (and I'm very careful around my eyes so the issue wasn't me :). I'm bummed! Any suggestions for an alternative mascara that not only promises the same thing but delivers?

Ok, I REALLY liked this mascara (got it in black). I have long, thin lashes and sensitive skin (so sometimes, when taking off a mascara, it actually irritates the nearby skin).
This mascara:
-did not irritate my eyes
-did not irritate my skin
-did provide a modest amount of thickening effect
-did increase the length somewhat (but not hugely...then again not the effect I was going for so that's OK).
-did not smudge or flake after a 14hr day
-provided a great deep, glossy black color
-did come off somewhat easily with just water in the shower. I needed to use a little bit of makeup remover under my lower lashline, but just a swipe or two. Definitely not a big production.
-was not overly difficult to apply-I was able to do it on the first go. I have used some similar mascaras with the little "tooth" sort of combs in the past (as opposed to a traditional makeup brush). Experience with this sort of brush might make it easier to apply. Something to consider, at least.
I did not find the brush overly saturated as some reviewers have found; product amount was just fine. you do have to be prepared to "comb through" a few times to get the lashes organized, in a way. It took me like an extra 5-7seconds to do this step. I found this extra time to be pretty minimal, especially since it did looks as if I'd used some (*some*) liner afterwards. As I hate applying eyeliner, I found this effect really great :) I would say the effect was comparable to light eyeliner on top + moderately intense mascara. I'm not sure that the mascara is really high impact enough to be "clubbing" mascara, but it is definitely more than just a "natural" or "daytime" look.
I thought it was comparable to Max Factor Volume Couture Mascara (also in black). The Volume Couture has a similar brush (with the little teeth, but all one size). I found the black color of the Bourjois to be better/darker/richer, and last longer than the Max Factor. Yes, the bourjois is more expensive (I paid $18 for Bourjois, and $8.50 for Max Factor), but given that the product was even less irritating, lasted longer on my face as well as in the bottle...I think it's worth it.

I have not yet bought this mascara, but everytime I go to Ulta I ALWAYS try it in Brown. I love it! It thickens my lashes, and adds wonderful length. It's a cheaper product in Europe, but at 15$ it's only a little more expensive than the cheapest high end stuff and the most expensive DS (the new Maybelline is a shocking 12.50!) I think I will crack and buy this eventually, but as I like Diorshow Iconic in Brown as well, I have to think it over!

I really like this mascara. I go through Mascara about every 5-6 weeks, and i tend to buy different ones each time, as i don't like to limit myself, when the product is quite inexpensive and not expected to last long.
The wand itself is almost identical to a YSL mascara, i used to wear about 5 years ago and i loved it and stuck with it for a good few years. The only reason i stopped using it was because it cost too much to keep buying every 5 weeks or so.
This made my lashes really long and full, however it can be alittle messy when applying and a few times i have had to use a cotton bud to get rid of some mascara on my eyelids. Another downside to this product is that when my eyelashes hit just below my eyebrow, they do sometimes leave their print. Something which other mascaras i've used do not do. But I do love the way this mascara makes my lashes look and i have stuck with this for about 4-5 months which is 6 or so repurchses.
I would recommend it to anyone.

I was really sad that stores were not carrying Bourjois Volume Clubbing (which I really like) anymore, so I decided to try Effect Liner Mascara. It does add a lot of volume, but it can get clumpy as the bristles are short and don't really separate the lashes. The lengthening was mediocre. Also, I curled my lashes and used Shiseido primer before applying this and it made the curl droop. I like how the brush, which is one of those rubber spikey kind, has different sized bristles, it made it easy to apply it to every lash; but overall it was not too great.

I liked the concept of this mascara and the idea that I could get a kind of tightlined effect which I have problems doing with a separate eyeliner.
I read the reviews carefully with regard to application and found that the effect was pretty and did on the upper lashes give a more defined effect than ordinary mascara alone. However it did seem a laborious process and took longer than the application of all my other make up combined so really ran out of patience with this. The mascara once applied took what seemed ages to dry and was liable to smudge easily. Also it didn't really thicken the way that I like so that was the end of that! Too much trouble for me Im afraid.

Hmmmm...this is a tough one to review.I love Bourjois - i think they make excellent quality products that are great value for money, innovative and fun. I was interested to try this mascara as i love how gel liners on my upper lash line enhance my eyes...but i dont love the time and effort it takes to achieve it.
The first time i tried this i blinked right after i applied the mascara and as others have noted it is a very wet mascara....it smudged EVERYWHERE. I get the cotton pads & cleanser out and start again. Normally i would throw out a product that seemed cumbersome to use - like this seemed but i felt it had potential...so i applied a layer of an older tube of Diorshow (its about 7 months old & drying out) then applied the Bourjois mascara over it....BINGO! it worked perfectly. No smudging. The Diorshow seemed to provide a great "grippy" base for the mascara. This seems silly & i like fast & easy MU application but this mascara really delivers what it claims to the "liner effect" when teamed with a base coat.My upper lashes look so lush & dark...and yes, it looks like i have a really neat line of liner on my upper lash line.I like the rubbery brush - it allows for great definition and prevents any clumps on my sparse lashes.
My tube came with a small leaflet with instructions - you use the side of the wand with the "nubby" bits to achieve the liner effect by wiggling it into the base of your lashes then the longer side of the wand to coat the rest of the lash.
I have no problems with smudging or flaking & i love the tube it comes it.
I really like this & intend to make it a staple in my MU bag.

I got this mascara as a present for my birthday, I wasn't fond of the mascara brush as I'm more of a 'thick clumpy eyelash' lover myself.
However, I was slightly suprised, the mascara glided onto my eyelashes easily and I didn't need alot to make my lashes stand out!
It didn't make my eyelashes clump together at all, and made the seperate and definded them properly! :)
I honestly though probably won't buy this mascara again
Yes it is good, but it doesn't give the thickness to my lashes that I love.

I have a love hate relationship with this mascara. Someone at Ulta told me to try this and I put it on in the store. It was a new container so it had not dried out or anything. WOW! The lashes came out very black and highly enhanced. I was impressed.
Then I wore it out into the wind and my eyes watered a bit. That was not a good thing. I ended up with little black riverettes coursing down my face.
When I have watery eyes with the MAC mascaras they might flake a tiny bit but at least I don't end up with dark running down my face.
I really love the way that this looks on, but it is far too frustrating to wear. I tend to get watery eyes now and then and that would frustrate me too much.
BTW, I have had several occasions to test this mascara- alone, over other mascaras, and with a regular mascara brush as compared to the one in the tube. I like the mascara brush better than the rubber one in the tube. It gives a much better application.
I also did not think that this stuff went on very well unless using a traditional disposable brush. I just love the way it makes my lashes look (when using the disposable brush) but I hate the way it wears. The stupid part is that at night if you want to remove it, it is hard to do, but yet if you have watery eyes it runs. Go figure.

I'm a fan of Bourjois mascaras and have been wearing them exclusively for several years (Volumizing, Yes to Volume, and Clubbing). This was an auto-buy for me and it did not disappoint. I have very fine, straight lashes and the little vinyl spikes can seperate each individual lash. Two coats is plenty and my lashes stay soft and they look really natural and long. Been using for 3 weeks and I haven't noticed any flaking nor have I had any problems removing it at night.
