Very pretty pinky nude mauve. It looks alot like NYX Thalia and is perfect for everyday looks. I love it.

This along with my Bobbi Brown "Brown" lipstick are my favorites!!!! It's a mauvish pink with a touch of brown and the look it gives my lips is a very usable neutral lippie. I love love love this lipstick. I literally don't have to try hard with this product.

Perfect MLBB for me! I prefer a mauve-y lipstick. Definitely shows up, but only a teensy bit which is exactly what I wanted. Texture is nice. Took off a lippie because it doesn't stay very well, and also because I find myself passing it over for other colors a lot.

This is a light-medium mauve pink colour. I have NC40 neutral olive skin, and not very pigmented lips which are pale mauve/red in colour. This lipstick doesn't really show up much on me. It's funny - I took along some of my own lipsticks to the MAC counter, as comparisons, and tested on my hand, Modesty comes up darker than many lipsticks which do show up on me (like Revlon Mauve It Over, which despite the name isn't mauve), but I guess it's the mauvey undertones which are causing it to disappear. I can make it wearable by using a darker lipliner, and by putting coloured glosses on top, so it's not a complete waste. I can make it into a decent nude lipstick. I like the formula, and find it quite long-lasting and not drying. However, I was looking for a MLBB shade, and not a nude lipstick, so that's why this didn't work for me. I need something with more rosy undertones.
EDIT Jan 2012 : I actually really like this. Now that it's winter and my skin's got lighter, it shows up better on me. I still always make sure my eyes have lots of liner on them and that I have a lot of bronzer on when I'm wearing this though, to stop it washing me out. I'm increasing my score from 3 to 4, and I would buy it again. It's the first permanent MAC lipstick I've ever liked!

I love this lipstick, a natural lipstick that goes on beautifully. I'm mainly raving about the colour, i've never found one as close to my natural lip colour! It goes on loving and makes your lip look full, although wish it would last abit longer on!

yes!
after trowling through lipstick after lipstick, i have FINALLY found one perfect for me!
the colour is a cool, true-medium, rosy pink. the perfect 'my lips but better' for me. i have a fair mediterranean skintone which can look a little yellowy. and when people call certain lipsticks perfect for them, i just look like i applied pink tippex to my lips.
the fact that this is a true medium pink, is crucial - because i find a lot of lipsticks are either too pale or too dark and just never quite seem to work. but this is perfect for ladies with similar skintones to me. fair to medium. it makes sense really because pale pinks suit pale complexions, medium pinks suit medium complexions and deeper pinks suit deeper complexions.
with this, i don't look like i am really even wearing lipstick, i just look better somehow when it's applied! (if that makes sense).
very moisturising, shiny and long-lasting as well.
i may have found a staple lipstick!

MAC Modesty cream sheen lipstick is a pinkie mauve neutral color. It is opaque and applies very smooth with no problems. On my tan and mac nc 40 skin tone, Modesty looks pinkie and mauve tone like my lip but better (MLBB) color. The color is a little deeper than MAC Viva Glam V and contains no shimmers. The wear is average lasting about 2-3 hours on my lip and this does not dries out my lip at all either. I would recommend Modesty to anyone looking for an everyday understated pink color and for any one with a cool or a warm skin tone, but people who are tan and darker might find this a little wash out on their lips in a pinkie mauve type of color.

Although I personally feel like MAC products are overpriced and you can find drugstore dupes that are just as good of quality, I do love this lipstick. Perfect "my lips, but better" lipstick with a slight pinky/beige tone. Nice and creamy, too. Lovely lipstick shade for ladies with medium complexions. It's pretty & natural looking, which is exactly what I was looking for

I have medium skin tone w/yellow undertones.. I love this lipstick. Looks similar to my natural lip color but adds a more pink tone. I apply a chapstick before I put this on and it goes on smoothly and beautifully.. great color for every day wear! It also pairs beautifully with all of my lipglosses because of how neutral the color is.

Very close in color to MAC's Brave. Only difference is the finish. Brave is a satin finish and Modesty is a cremesheen. This color is very my lips but better. It's also slightly darker than my lips, although it goes well with both dark and light colored glosses. Love it. NC15 for reference.

AHHHH~ I really think I found my perfect HG lipstick and nude! Makes my lips look amazing! I've been trying to find something to tone down my bright red lips without being too dark, or washing me out completely and this is it! Try it! the formula is wonderful and the color lasts a good 3 hours before needing to reapply, longer if you don't eat or drink :)

I love this lipstick. I tend to go for more subtle, natural makeup, and this color fits the bill nicely. Viva Glam V has always been my staple MLBB shade, but Modesty gives me a lovely alternative to this, when I want a slightly more mauve-y look. IMO, the Viva Glam V has a bit more brown, and Modesty has a bit more mauve or rose to it. As one other reviewer mentioned, Modesty really brings out my hazel eyes. I'm sure I'll purchase this over and over.

Just bought this today and it's gorgeous! It looks kind of nasty in the tube, but nice on my pale lips and NC 20 skintone. It also looks great on my mom who has slightly darker lips and skin than me.
I recently got rid of my red-toned lipsticks, which I really wish I could pull off, and decided to get some that were more pigmented, but soft. For reference to my taste, the lipstick I'm saving up for is Mademoiselle from the Chanel Coco Rouge line. This has a similar effect in that it's more neutral, but is less pink. Love it, great on paler skin!

If you are a busy woman, wondering what to wear at work, or other public places, this is the one for you.
Unlike other high end brands, it is small and not bulky enough to throw anywhere, pockets, wallet, small bag etc.
I don't like to wear lipgloss when I work, but I also don't like a dry feeling of some lipsticks (including some MAC).
For some people, this might not look good since the colour has little brown/grey tone.
It it not clear pink colour. This also might not show up well for some skin tone or lips.
When I don't work, I usually pair with MAC lip pencil Subculture. Sometimes I put Shu Uemura beige or pink lipgloss.
I am NC 20-25 with black hair, my lip pigmentation is pale.

I agree with the favorable reviews below. This is a great nudish/natural color that isn't too little or too much. It's just pretty. I have light olive skin, NC25, and I love the nude lip look. Unfortunately, it doesn't work well on me because I have pigmented lips. I would say this is a good nude for us with pigmented lips because it doesn't wash me out. It's pretty neutral, not too cool or warm. I have tried hug me, viva glam V and II, high tea, angel, creme cup. None of those are quite right for a natural look for me, although I do like creme cup for a pink lipstick. This is definitely one to try if you don't like bold colors. Also, the formula is my favorite among the mac lipsticks. Smooth, not too sheer and not too thick.

UPDATE FALL 2012: My needs have changed, from when I first reviewed this. I wanted a muted down pale lip not MLBB. On me Modesty is my lip color. So I passed on it for Creme de Nude at the time. Fast forward a bit and I am looking for less nude, more MLBB. Now I go for Modesty. I LOVE the cremesheen finishes. And I also moved to a less ruddy blush than Blushbaby and I now wear Dame with this...it softens up Modesty soooo much. It brings out way more of the pink in Modesty where as Blushbaby brought out the brown in Modesty. Modesty looks so much better with the more pink based Dame blush on me! I have bumped it up to a 5 lippie product.
ORIGINAL POST: I have rosey pigmented lips, NW20 skin. Honestly, this is MLBB or maybe even just "my lips but polished". This didn't even make a dent in my lips - it is my lip color. It is pretty much the same issue I had with Hug Me, Patisserie, & Syrup. You couldn't even tell I had put anything on. My lips looked nice and polished, but it did not show up. I don't think the MUA would have believed it if she didn't see it. But then again, she had hard time getting the concept that my lips are that rosey naturally. I was looking for a more nude-ish color (not my lips but better or concealer lips, but a toned down, more nudey-pink) and ended up getting Creme de Nude instead of Modesty. It is a much better fit and reminds me more (look/feel) of my beloved, but LE Innocence Beware. I tried both Modesty and Hug Me because many fellow MUA'ers suggested them when I requested nude-ish colors.

Everybody should own this. No thought required, no mirror even required. It is THE MLBB, and I own A LOT of those.
I also like how it isin't completely matte, and the formula isint as drying as some of the other finishes.
No doubt about it, I will continue to purchase. I'm in this for the long run.

Great everyday l/s for me. I'm an NC42 with brown eyes and hair and this is an easy everyday lipcolor that doesn't require too much thought from me. I don't need a lipliner and can add a light gloss on top.
Price and formula are great. I have really dry and chapped lips and with a good chopstick or lipbutter under and this on top it doesn't cake or flake on me. On good days I can wear only this and it is moisturizing enough. Would recommend this for medium skinned girls as it is a great brown, pink, mauve shade. MAC has so many colors and I have def found the one I will be repurchasing.

Sadly, my natural lip isn't very pigmented. For years, my goal has been to find a lipstick or gloss that matches the color of my lips when I get out of a hot shower - a pinked nude flush.
After agonizing over MUA reviews, I bought Modesty sight unseen. And I got so incredibly lucky!
I absolutely LOVE this lipstick. Most nudes pull brown or peachy on me, but Modesty has enough rosiness to look natural against my (cool) PPP complexion. Not quite my ideal "flushed lip", but so very flattering and natural-looking, all the same.
I'm not an expert on the various lipstick formulas MAC offers, but this particular lipstick - with lipliner (e.g., Beurre) - will last me until lunch, and that's through drinking, talking, and snacking. Texture is relatively smooth, but it doesn't feel "slippery" like some lipsticks can feel, and I haven't noticed any weird wear issues, like enhancing lip lines or bleeding or anything.
In short, this is my go-to nude lipstick that I'll keep buying over and over and over and over...
