Ok some of these reviews are driving me crazyyyy.....Im a makeup artist and some things are controlled...
-Do NOT use a silicone primer with this...Although the BE Matte is amazy, their primer stinks..
(Korres anti-aging primer is wonderful) Even for the oiliest...
There product is buildable...One layer is equal to a tinted moisturizer and 3 layers is regular foundation...You build what you want...
If your having oil control problems even while using this, the problem could very easy be your skincare routine...If you are using the wrong product...Well then your throwing your money away...
And yes pressure is key and use the right brush...You want the product to get into the natural bristles and really do its job...
Hope this helps...Sorry had to vent...

This is the formula I am currently using. I left Bare Minerals for awhile because of the shine I would get with the original formula (mica-induced). I'm not one for "illuminizing" since my skin does that all on its own. I really like this and have been wearing it for 8 months now. I just recently purchased the spf to wear over it and I'm finally getting that flawless finish I've always wanted in a foundation. The only issue I have with BM is that touch-ups are somewhat difficult. It isn't as easy as pulling out a pressed powder compact. But considering I feel this is far improved than the original formula and how much I enjoy mineral makeups, I feel it is worth it.
Not sure it is an HG yet (I have been searching for that for years), but I would consider repurchasing once my current supply runs out. I used to wear expensive liquids when I had access to higher end department stores, but I really like the light texture and coverage of a MMU than I do the super pricey fancy foundations.
UPDATE August 2012. I'm still using this as my daily foundation. I cover it with the spf 25 mineral veil. Still happy. It doesn't do full coverage, but that isn't what I need at this point. I mainly need shine control. I love it that BM is leaning towards pressed products. They are a lot easier to handle.

I LOVE this! It makes my face feel smooth and matte, and it hides imperfections and large pores beautifully. I must admit, during my first uses i hated it. My face looked blotchy, and my pores were enlarged. But when I applied it correctly (with a kabuki brush) it was wonderful. It evens my skin tone and over time diminishes pores!
Many bad reviews are probably caused by wrong colour choice!

At first I was SUPER excited to try this product because everyone said it was amazing. I went with the matte variety because my skin can get oily on the T zone. I have to say, I gave this product about 4 months of time and I hate it. First, I find that the product oxidizes up after about 3-4 hours of wear. Orange nasty mess. Next, it does not keep my slightly oily skin matte at all even with a primer and constant blotting. Its so expensive and even though you go crazy buffing it into your pores, it settles out later throughout the day and the oil came back. It gives ok coverage, but I do not get that much more than an occasional pimple and this does not do the trick at all. If it doesn't last for oily skin, I have no clue how it sticks to people with dry skin. Definitely not worth the hype, I'm sticking with my Make Up Forever HD foundation :D

After stepping away from BE a couple years ago after itching with their original formula, I decided to give it another try with the new 'bismuth' free matte formula. So far I'm extremely happy with it. I loved the coverage and wear of the original and this is the same if not better for me. It is more matte and you can always put on a 'radiance' powder or luminous mineral veil to give that more luminous finish. It wears all day with the prime time primer underneath and I find I hardly ever have to touch up. It feels smooth and clean and washes off well at the end of the day.

i love that i feel comfortable applying this everyday and knowing that it won't do any harm to my face in any way. it doesn't break me out or clog pores.
bare minerals comes out with a variety of shades that look natural, not cakey. it is build-able, so you can apply it to suit the coverage you desire. i use the matte light in the winter and the matte medium beige in the summer.
the best powder foundation i've ever used. hands down.

This is the foundation I use, and it has GREAT coverage.
I use this in 'Tan' and it is probably the wrong shade because it is a bit red for my skin tone, but it was the only color they were selling at a 50% off sale!
it is so versatile, and sometimes i just use it on my cheekbones, or areas that can be highlighted.
overall i probably have it in the wrong color, but the coverage is great and it doesn't make you look like you are wearing foundation- just that your skin is flawless!

I have worked in a spa that sells Bare Minerals and used it for three years now, While I don't agree with the negative reviews about the coverage, I am not surprised as I hear the same complaints every day, With the Bare Minerals you can get a fantastic coverage but it is extremely important that you apply it correctly. When someone comes in and tells me they don't like the coverage I ask them if they are using a good amount of pressure while they are buffing in a circular motion and 9 times out of ten that solves the problem. You have to apply with pressure in order to break up the minerals and buff the makeup into your skin, If not, the makeup just sits on top of your skin and makes pores and lines more obvious. That being said, I like the original formula much better than the matte,

I can't believe all the bad reviews! ;_; I had horrid skin before using Bare Minerals(you can see pics on my blog fuuflower). A friend told me it changed her rosacea, so I decided to try it too, but got the matte because I have oily skin. WOW-after two weeks of use my pores were smaller, less pimples and less redness. The coverage it medium, if you want full-faced coverage I recommend a liquid foundation underneath and/or concealer. Although, you can dab on the foundation on those places and use it as concealer as well. The active soil complex in it I think is the key, it helps dead skin cell turnover and my face is noticeably softer. 5/5 for me!

Years ago, when the mineral makeup craze was at its height, I tried the Bare Minerals original formula. Though I liked the overall look, I couldn't stand how it made my skin itch even when I broke the slightest sweat. I moved on to other brands.
As other reviewers have said, I had a nagging curiosity about the bismuth-free matte formula and what it might do for me. So... back to Bare Minerals, 6 years later. For reference, I have light combo skin with yellow undertones. I have enlarged pores on and around my nose.
The first thing I noticed about the matte formula is that it made my pores look enormous. OMG. Blending helped some, but I haven't had a product do that to me in a while. The shade itself (Fairly Light) was a good match and looked natural, and I was able to get nice medium coverage pretty easily. I did indeed go walking in the heat - and no itching. Unexpectedly, I did not get much in the way of oil control. My skin felt weirdly slippery toward the end of the day, and I though that the staying power was mediocre. Overall, this product was not terrible, just not in the ballpark of other products that cost as much or less.
