As a freelance makeup artist and former fulltime professional makeup artist, I think this is pretty bad. Actually it SUCKS. I also do not know why it gets rave reviews. The brush makes it impossible to actually build length or add thickness. It smudges worse than any other and believe me I've tried them all. The waterproof formula is only a tad better. I like Maybelline Full and Soft as my all time faves, even as much as Lancome Definicils. Maybe if you do not want to add length OR thickness and you're masquerading as a raccoon you'd like this...

I, also, do not know why makeup artists would use this. What it doesn't do: lengthen or thicken. What it does do: flake, smear and cause 'racoon eyes'. Pure crapola.

I HATE this mascara. It's the worst out there. I read everywhere that all the celebs use it and love it, and i dont get why! It doesnt thicken or make my lashes longer, just darker. ICK. Dont buy this product!

A terrible, not even basic mascara. I never quite understood all the hype behind this one. Professionals use this, models use this and others, but never could figure this out. First of all, this clumps like crazy and does not look natural or clean on. It also didn't lengthen nor thicken my lashes either. I remember the rounded pink and green container, now it's more square, but the formula has not improved in the thirty+ years this has been a market staple. But, helas, not for me!!!!!!!

Ugh. I have tried to like this mascara because I felt like I was *supposed* to...but I can't. I hate this mascara like it beat up an old lady. The only thing good about it is it's cheap -- about $3-4 USD. Blech!

i guess i'm alone in this..but i actually like this mascara..i have naturally black lashes so this just makes them stand out more..it looks natural to me and not fake which is the look that i go for. the only downfall is that it takes a long time to dry and if i blink i'll have some it smudged above my eye...other than that, it's a keeper.

why? why is this on the market? why does everyone rave about it? why is the frigging thing pink and green? get past the packaging, and what do you get? mascara that tammy faye baker would avoid. it runs everywhere, it flakes everywhere, it has never been clump free for me.

I am blessed with long full lashes, but I still hate this mascara. The worst racoon-eye mascara out there, and there are some bad ones. Obviously, Maybelline pays major bucks to the makeup artists and beauty magazines to get them to praise it. I'm not sure I could praise it even for money. Very bad.

I have been reading for years in certain fashion magazines that make-up artists go wild for this product. And like a good consumer, I have been buying it for years, never once considering that THEY ARE ALL LYING!!
This mascara never did anything for my lashes other than give them a little bit of colour...which I suppose, if you are going for "natural" look, is ok. Well, I am not, I want my make-up to look like make-up and I want black spiky lashes that are at least 3 inches long.
Next please!!

The only thing I like about this mascara is the cute packaging...everything else about it is unbelievably horrendous.....How can the mascara gods allow this to continue??? I can name a thousand better ones, even wet and wild and crappy dollar mascaras are better.....save your money!!!

I really don't understand the cult following this mascara supposedly enjoys. I have tried this mascara repeatedly, and it always lets me down. It gives spiky results (you end up with 4 or 5 big lashes). It also seems to transfer into a vague shadow under my eyes after a few hours of wear. About the only thing going for it is the price, but with such poor results, that is $3.50 wasted. I could have used that money for something that works well.

What the Heck???? Who said this was the #1 Mascara? They must be brain dead!!! I have long lashes naturally and this made my lashes look clumped, short, and barely put any mascara on them. It's the worst mascara I've ever used!! Don't waste your money unless you don't like much mascara, because this is terrible. My mom even bought me blackest black one day because I said I wanted Illegal Lengths. (the best, might I say). That sucked too!! My sister likes it though, but eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww. That's all I gotta say. I will NEVER buy EVER again.

I, too, believed those Allure readers, whoever they are. They must all work for Maybelline. This mascara is just normal, if not bad. The cheap price does not compensate for the clumps.

Who uses this??? I always hear that makeup artists "swear" by this mascara, but i tried this and HATED it. I have naturally very long, curved lashes, which are just blond on the tips, and this was CLUMPY, and made my lashes look short and straight!!ewwww boo for this mascara
