I just recieved this in the mail last week, in Veil. The color is a bit light for me, I probably should have went with Disguise (I am Stila D, 40 watts). Anyway, it is better to be a little light than dark. This is really a great foundation. It is very very similar to Clarin's color tint, which I also really like. Smooth, almost sheer, but heavier than TM for sure. I always use the freckles on my nose as reference, with this I can still see them up close, but more blurred. The good news is, no greasy feel, not drying, and natural looking! In certail lighting, the shine particles are noticable, but only I will notice them I am sure. Great new foundation for winter!!!

OMG! I think I found my holy grail foundation. After all the great reviews, I emailed Tarte cosmetics and asked them what their recommended shade for me was (we have no Tarte counter where I live) -- I'm a NC37/42 (depeding on MAC formulation), Stila E type of girl. They recommended Smooth Operator in Disguise. The titanium dioxide and zinc oxide (sunscreen ingredients) give the foundation a shade that looks lighter than what should match your skin. The color soon melts into your skin and OH MY GOD ... it feels like heaven. It gives my skin this healthy dewy glow. Not sparkly-ish obvious rosy glow like MAC hypereal, and not greasy- dewy like a couple of other foundations I've tried. The silicone water-based formulation really make this foundation comfortable to wear. Time will tell how my acne prone skin will react, but after reading the reviews below, I'm not too worried. The cost is slightly expensive, but in the end I think it's worth every penny.

I had to check this stuff out after reading all the great reviews, and I've been on a bit of a tarte kick lately. Once again, they didn't disappoint. First of all, I love the packaging--SO cute and easy to travel with...and it's just something different than a plain jar or bottle. More importantly, though, the product inside is amazing. I bought Conceal (I have pale olive skin) and the color just sort of melts into my skin. It has these tiny light-reflecting particles...they're almost a pink-red color if you look at them up close, so it kind of gives this rosy glow under your skin. But you'd never look at it in the sunlight and be horrified by your own iridescent face (a la Prescriptives Magic). My skin tends to get very dry around this time of year, and the smooth operator didn't sting or irritate it at all...it was actually soothing and almost cooling. Totally evened out my skin tone AND has the SPF 20, which is great, because sometimes I'm just too lazy. Anyway, at $35, the price is on par with other brands, and for a superior product, IMO. I will definitely rebuy.

I've waited a little while to write this review, but I want to say this is the most fabulous product that I've tried in a long, long time. I have this in Facade and wear the tiniest bit over Cle de Peau primer and I get the most perfect look ever! Husband has been complimenting me and have been getting looks from younger men!! lol. I'm 48, so that's a big deal. Gigantic rave from me. PS--I normally wear the lightest shade in a foundation family.

I have had this since July, but have been waiting so that I could right an accurate review. I have this in Veil. It is just a touch to light for me, but the color is forgiving so it is not a big deal. Looks lovely on my skin, the best I have found. I rarely leave the house without this on, even if it is the only thing I put on my face. I also love the glow that it gives to my skin. It is nice to look in the mirror and see great looking skin. Recently my face decided to go through an acne stage, but is not a problem anymore. I have noticed that when I have it on after a while when I smile and the skin bunches up around my nose it forms in a bunch of tiny lines instead of a bulge of skin. That is why I see it not working for skin that may be lined or sun damaged. I think that because of the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in the product in the product it may accentuate fine lines after sitting on the face all day.
In my opinion, another great product from Tarte. A must try and a definite repurchase! :) UPDATE 11/18/04: Very sadly, I am thinking that I can only use this during warmer months. :( My skin just gets too dry and flakey to work with this in the winter. but you better believe I will be back to it in the spring! Still love it!

love the color and the texture. perfect for my pale, pale skin.
UPDATE: I really love this stuff. My skin looks so even and clear. The SA said it was a medium foundation but it feels more like a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer. My skin is clear but blotchy. This give me a great canvas and makes me look like I was born with great skin. I use Facade.

Love Love Love this! I could never find a match for my oh so fair skin, but this is a perfect match! It's so nice and sheer and doesn't cake up my young skin. The packaging is adorable and the amount will last forever. How great is it when you find such a perfect product.. thanks tarte!

Ah well, I was delusional apparently when I bought this and was thinking I was 16. Just not right for my skin and it definitely left a sheen, but not oily. I returned it..just not enough coverage for me.

I did alot of research to find a good foundation with medium coverage which would not sit in pores or wrinkles AND would make me look flawless and natural in any light. This product really is fantastic and achieves all of the above. Coverage is medium but can be layered without looking cakey. I went for a shade lighter than my freckles and it sinks in and looks natural but evens me out.

I recently wrote a review and then deleted it on this product. The reason was after i initially tried Veil, the color darkened on me a couple of shades, but i decided to give it another try because i thought that was strange.

Since then it has not done that. However, i am having the worst time finding a high-end foundation with a texture (not too matte or too greasy), coverage(medium) and most importantly the right color match (i'm mmm/ggg).

On my quest to find out about the hype of the flawless face, I have tried samples of Laura Mercier oil -free(way too dark and greasy), Fresh (also too dark and greasy), vincent longo matte (too matte for me), vincent longo water canvas (pretty good, very expensive and having problems finding the correct color match), and finally Tarte (disguise a little too dark, and veil too yellow).

I thought i had finally nailed it down to Tarte. So I applied Veil to one half of my face and Disguise to the other half. I'm really not that brave. I did it on a Sunday morning knowing i would be home most of the day. At first the color difference was substantial. The Disguise looked better. More natural (per my husband), whereas the Veil looked too yellow on me. But later that day (about 5-6 hours later) i went out in full Miami Florida sun and i couldn't see any difference!

I think my skin is so oily that another MUA mentioned something about oxidation which seems to be a perpetual problem for me.

Well, after trying all these samples in the last month i couldn't make up my mind and went back to my Neutrogena Healthy Skin SPF20. I have a half bottle of True Beige sitting around and I can hardly tell the difference between this product and the products that costs as much $52.50!

The high end makeup definitely has the edge for the first hour or two, but after it settles into my oily skin I can't see much difference.

I love this product! It gives off this glow-from-within look and is truly undetectable, even in sunlight! Does not look like there is anything on the skin! It looks real, which is always important to me when it comes to foundation! It gives the heaviest light coverage I've ever experienced (does that make sense?) and it covers any blotchiness or uneveness that I have. It doesn't cover the occasional pimples that pop up, but it does tone down the redness. Great product! EDIT: Armani's LSF is now my HG, but I still love this product for lazy days

Update: I had stopped using this product because it was too drying for my skin, and color match was off. I just tried the re-formulated version in the new 00 color, and it's a perfect match plus the formula is less thick and more moisturizing than before. You really can't see I'm wearing foundation but it evens my skin out. Most products cake up on my oily but dehydrated, 45+, skin. This doesn't. It doesn't cover as well as it did in the past, but I can live with that. I'm wondering if the SPF is as effective as before, since it feels almost weighless.

I waited a week before writing this because I wanted to be sure it was indeed what I thought--my grail. Finally! I have a very oily t-zone & most foundations/skincare give me huge cysts within a few days. Before this I used bobbi brown smooth skin and loved it (still do) but it tend to be a bit heavy for everyday for me. I bought this after reading all the raves (thanks cashmerewhore for making my life complete as it was your gc that allowed me to splurge on this!). It is wonderful. First I applied it with my fingers and thought it looked really good but then I applied it with my mac #109 brush (I believe that's the #, small pro buffing cheek brush, the MA told me to try it with foundation for an airbrushed look) and WOW!!!, this gave me a wonderful finished look, was very light, color perfect (veil), and did a great job of masking my pores. It didn't cling to dry spots and didn't make me oily. I shall never be without this! Perfection & I wear it everyday, I looooove it!

Oh how sad ... another disappointment for me. Why are all my new products not working?? LOL. Well anyway, I thought that I would like this, but alas I don't. The only good thing I can say about this, is that it DOES give a nice glow, but there are many many more products out there that can give the same, if not better glow. While the texture is nice (not too liquidy yet not heavily creamy), the product is just bleh. Like cmkelly (who has since deleted her review), the product turned significantly darker on me within minutes. Initially, the product even seemed to be too light on me, but then proceeded to darken to a weird shade. I must also add that there are no benefits to be gained from this product. The vitamins are at a low concentration. And although this product has an SPF of 20, the amount applied to the face is not nearly sufficient enough to provide protection.

This is hands down THE BEST foundation/TM that I have ever used. Blends well, gives just enough coverage to even out skin tone, and the best part is I have had NO breakouts from this product since using it (been using for 2 months now) as I am totally acne prone. As a bonus, it also has SPF 20. It looks completely natural, no one will be able to tell you are wearing makeup at all, which I love because I hate that fake-looking made-up appearance. It will not cover blemishes, but my philosophy is unless your skin is completely broken out then a dab of concealer will cover whatever spots you have, you don't need to use a heavy foundation all over your face. Holy grail, can't imagine using anything else (and I have tried everything out there)!!

Wow! This is sooo perfect for me. Feels so light. Like I am not wearing anything. But my skin... so radiant. Not shimmery or shiny like a Wannabe-teen-pop-star. Just a radiance that screams HEALTHY. I feel so pretty wearing this. I do not see the "gold shimmer" some have mentionned. Just an unmitigated glow that beckons a "Helloooo Gorgeous!" at every corner. I also love the SPF 20 (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide). I wear this in Conceal and it is a perfect match. The coverage is very light but somehow with a little undereye concealer my skin looks flawless. Perfect for someone who does not like to wear foundation and only needs minimal coverage. Pricey but so worth it!

I have been unsuccessful with finding a good foundation with my acne-prone, combo skin that doesn't end up making my face break out, become oily, flaky or colored funny. This foundation went on smooth, sheer, and gave a glowy sheen that didn't look greasy and lasted all day without turning into anything cakey. Thank you, jeri55 (see her excellent review below) for the information and advice she gave me for the right shade (I purchased Veil without testing it in person) and it seems to match a lot of skin tones. There are tiny gold speck in it that disappeared on my face (even tho it didn't when I tried it on the back of my hand). However, it's not a matte look on me, more of a skin tone evener and illuminizer. It covered the pores on my cheeks perfectly! I love the SPF 20 that it offers. Great formula. If you email the Tarte customer service, they can answer questions and recommend a shade for you.

I hate wearing foundation or feeling it on my skin, so I was looking for something super light with medium coverage for my NC42-43 skintone. I purchased "Disguise" after reading all the raves on MUA. It's a medium yellow-based beige. It goes on very sheer and slick, but it sinks right into my skin. As for concealer, I find that it's better to apply after the Smooth Operator, or else it disappears into the foundation. I love the sleek and sophisticated packaging. Very modern looking! A tiny bit goes a long way, so it will last a long-time. I have breakout prone skin, but so far so good. I could use a little more coverage, but oh well. I like how glowy and satin my skin looks with this foundation. I will spend the $35.00 for this again! I use LM loose powder in Beige to set it, and I have been very happy with this combo. It may not work that well in the summer because that when oil becomes a factor for me, but it's perfect for winter. UPDATE 9/05: Turns out that I had the wrong color for my skin a year ago. Recently, my skin has cleared up so much after getting off Depo-Provera and my LM Oil-free foundation was feeling too heavy for everyday use, so I went back to Smooth Operator with their new press powder to set it. I have been using SO foundation in Guise along with Tarte new Provocature press powder in Illusion, and holy-moly - My skin has never looked this fabulous! UPDATE: I tried NARS Powder Foundation and fell head over heals for it, so I'm not using this much.

I just got this yesterday, and tried it today. It's pretty freakin great, I'll admit, but I am not quite sure yet if it lives up to the reveiws I read. I love that it is natural-looking, it really gives youth to the skin (which is a weird thing for me to be saying- I'm 19), and it is tightening without being dry. I got Facade, but I am afraid it may be a tad too light for my summer skin. Still, it works wonderfully, covering my blochiness without covering my freckles, which is good because I love my freckles. This gives my face the magazine-worthy glow and purity that I have never found with any other foundations. My skin looks flawless, and best of all it looks like it got that way on it's own! I'm update this is my feelings turn for the better or worse after a few days.

Finally! This foundation ended my search for a perfect foundation. Previous to this, i've never used a foundation (my ex HG was Stila illuminating powder 20 watts) because it always emphasized my dry patches and fine lines but not this product! Smooth Operator really created a super smooth and flawless dewy skin for me. I also love the squeeze out bottle, very hygienic. I'm planning to buy this in bulk! Conceal is the perfect color for me. Thank you so much for the ones who recommended this product.
