I am a self-proclaimed eyeliner aficionado and this is product is my new HG!

First of all, I am Asian and thus using eyeliner is definitely a necessity in my daily makeup routine. I have tried several different types of eyeliners: gel-liners, pencil liners and liquid liners and this one totally blew me away!

There are several things I look for in a good eyeliner:

1. Consistency: Does the product go on easily?

I found that this product was extremely easy to put on. The creamy consistency allowed the product to smoothly glide onto my lids.

When I used the Stila Smudge Pot gel-eyeliner, I found that the consistency was too gloppy for me to get a precise line; when I switched to the Bobbi Brown gel-eyeliner, I found that the gel would get too dry and lumpy for me to get a smooth line. A gripe I had with both of those gel-eyeliners were that they dried too quickly on my lids, and I had to tug pretty hard (which cannot be good for my eyes) to either fix any mistakes or to smudge the line. I often had to resort to using make up remover (which ruined my eye makeup) to get my eyeliner to be perfect.

I found the Clinique brush-on cream liner to be much softer and smoother than both of those gel-eyeliners and was more forgiving in the drying department, so that my mistakes did not ruin my makeup.

2. Endurance: Does the product stay on?

Yes! I wear this liner all day (I even work out in it) and it does not budge from either my upper or lower lids! I am very anal about how my makeup stays on (esp eyeliner) because back in the day when I used pencil liners, (CG, Revlon, even MAC - all waterproof) the liner would run all over! I always had to worry about my eyes, then I discovered gel-eyeliners. For me, the staying power of gel-eyeliners is so much greater than pencil liners, that it would be unfair to compare the two types.

This product has the same staying power as that of both the Stila Smudge Pots and the Bobbi Brown gel-eyeliners! However, it did not give me any gel-eyeliner problems. For example, for those ladies who tightline their eyes, often times (at least for me) those nasty blackened "eye-bugers" would appear by the middle of the day. When I removed them with a Q-tip, I always felt that I am removing a part of my eyeliner in the process and that my liner doesn't look as nice. However with this product, I pleasantly found that I DID NOT get the nasty eye-bugers on the inner corners of my eyes.

A major problem that I had with the Stila Smudge Pots, was that the liner would flake off, ( I think it's because the gel is too thick) and leave me with patches of eyeliner on my lids. It drove me insane because when I reapplied, I felt the gel was just caking on (kind of like painting over old, peeling paint).

3. Color: Is the color a "true black"? Does it stay "true black"?

Yes! Yes! Yes! The color is VERY black and glossy - a definite "true black". I loved the glossy-ness especially because I have never gotten that with any other gel-eyeliner. I think the reason I do not get nasty black eye-bugers with this product is because it's so pigmented that you do not need to use a lot and hence there is less build up.

4. Usability: Is the product easy to use?

As with all gel/ cream eyeliners there is a slight learning curve because you have to use a brush. I can definitely see how the brush that came with the product, would be hard to use for first-timers. Honestly, if it's your first time using a gel or cream eyeliner, just go out and buy a nice eyeliner brush ( I use a thin, flat one from Sephora). None of the gel/ cream eyeliners from other companies come with a brush, so even if you buy from another brand, you would still have to go out and buy a brush!

In my opinion, applying eyeliner with a brush is pretty easy (harder than a pencil but for the staying power? definitely worth it!). In the past, I have had very bad experiences with liquid eyeliners - even expensive ones. I have used the very overpriced Shiseido "Makeup Fine Eyeliner" costing $27, (refillable, with cartridges costing $13) which is a liquid eyeliner pen. This product claimed to be easy to use "blah blah blah" but as with all liquid eyeliners, the liquid was hard to control and took forever to dry. Although I hated throwing it out, I did anyways because it sucked.

Speaking of cost...
5. Affordability: Is this product well priced?

Yes for $14.50 you receive 0.17 oz!
Bobbi Brown gel costs $19.00 for 0.10 oz.
Mac Fluidline costs $15.00 for 0.10 oz.
Stila Smudge pots $18.00 for 0.14 oz.

(On another note, I'm not sure if the 0.17 oz stamped on the box means just the liner or the liner and brush but, for the quality of the product, I would gladly pay the Bobbi Brown price.)

So all in all I love love love this eyeliner!!! I bought it on a whim at Macy's. ( I used to exclusively use Bobbi Brown gel-eyeliners but was fed up with how the gel clumped after awhile so I decided to try this one.) There was no one at the Clinique counter when I bought this so I couldn't ask any questions and I was pretty pissed at the customer service in the store, but the point is, I bought it anyways and I love it.

I did ask about the return policy for makeup at Macy's (when I was fuming because no one knew anything) and they said you can return it as long as you have the box and receipt.
SO, if you are looking for a high quality, very black gel/ cream eyeliner this product is perfect! You can always return it (at least at Macy's) if you don't like it.

I know this is a looong review but I like to be thorough! Anyways if you do not like this product I would definitely chose the Bobbi Brown gel over the Stila Smudge Pots. The Smudge Pots are not worth the price and they dry out very quickly (can't revive the gel with water) so you waste a lot of money.

I hope you find this review useful!!!

XOXO,
your local eyeliner lover

amazing. dark dark rich black. the clinique MA said that it actually didnt come out as night black on me as it did with other girls, but its still very dark and very gorgeous. Its my first time using a cream eyeliner and the one at MAC looked too watery. It was very easy to use and my eyes have never looked more defined! Its amazing. Get it.

I finally broke down and got this after dragging my feet. It's black, goes on smoothly, lasts all day and is relatively affordable. Clinique is coming out with some great things at a fast pace. Viva Clinique!

I LOVE YOU CLINIQUE. I COMPARED THIS PRODUCT TO A FLUIDELINE... blacktrack. Clinique's weighs 5 grams while MAC's weighs 3grams. Same price. Gotta love clinique's more. It lasts longer and the black is simply gorgeous as all hell.

BLACK liner, people. BLACKEST BLACK. Sixties black. Without a question, BLACK. Not shiny patent leather black like liquid liner; being a cream/gel, there is still a softness to the line, to the final finish that makes me love cream/gel liners. This is suitable for day or night, can be as dramatic as you design and suitable for any look from conservative to outrageous. Wonderful texture, applies like butta and lasts all day with nary a concern. Much darker, blacker that MAC's Blacktrack; makes Blacktrack look charcoal. Such a difference, in fact, that you may want to have Blacktrack as well for softer looks, because this is BLACK. Thank you, Askr, for opening my eyes to this wonderful liner!!! I do have one small gripe: the liner is down deep in the jar, and unless one has light directly above them, you can't see how much product your brush is picking up. Perhaps the space above the liner helps keep it from drying out? Ah well...I don't mind....because it's BLACK. Beautiful BLACK!

Well I’ve finally found my HG eyeliner! I’ve tried so many other gel/cream eyeliners and they have all failed to impress me with their staying power…sure they stay on, but smudge and bleed in the process (MAC, BB etc.)! After reading the reviews I decided to give this a go and I’m so glad I did! The first day I got to test this eyeliner I was going snowboarding, one of the ultimate tests you can run with makeup, especially when you’ve got a helmet and goggles on. After sweating through 6 hours of boarding I am proud to announce that this eyeliner only smudged a bit but it was stilly fully evident that I had eyeliner on. I did the same test with MAC fluidlines awhile back and it all disappeared by the end of my boarding day!

Anyways, test #2, my trip to Mexico, I applied this first thing in the morning, went snorkeling, swimming in the pool, sat out in the sun for a couple of hours and even rubbed my eyes (darned salt water!), Clinique’s eyeliner stayed strong and true with just a wee bit of fading at the outside corners of my eyes, AMAZING! My eyes have not been irritated at all and this wee pot seems to be going quite the distance so far! I definitely recommend this to anyone, even with oily skin (my skin is just normal to a wee oily) I’m sure this would have lasting power.

Test #3, normal everyday wear to work: with all other liners I’ve tried by mid-day I’m swiping my face powder pad underneath my lower line to get rid of that hideous little “raccoon eye”, not so with this crème liner! Lasts ALL day and I even have to take extra time to take it off at night time!

Sorry if my review sounds not-so-exciting, I’m running on 3 hours sleep and at work right now! *hehe* But I have nothing but good to say about this liner, give it a shot, you won’t regret it!

True black with a gel-like consistency. I use the Bobbi Brown ultrafine eyeliner brush with it. The brush that it comes with isn't thin enough for my Asian eyes. I like it better than the Mac fluid line, which was more of a greyish black with heavier feel. This doesn't smudge as I test drove it through a sweaty workout.

HI. i like this product too much, because it doesnot smear it stay about very long time. it is gel eyeliner, very easy to apply. I can compare this eyeliner
to mac fluidline. they both are very good eyeliner. you can create line very soft or dramatic. I advise that everyone should buy this eyeliner.

I have attempted to use liquid eyeliner in the past and I have never been able to master it. When I use kohl liner all they do is slide of my eye. Well I decided to try Clinique brush-on cream liner in true black and I LOVE it. Yes the brush that comes with it is bit difficult (I suggest a more professional brush) but you get the hang of it very quickly. It stayed on all day, no smudging, no smearing, just great color. A little goes a long way and this will last forever. I did compare this to MAC fluidline and both are about the same.

I love this sooooo much! All other eyeliners smear or fade on me, but not this one! It took me a while to get used to the cream formula and having to apply it with a brush, but once I mastered that I was in love.

I always use this on the inner rim of my eye. Once it dries, it stays there all day. :-o It's a miracle. I also use it to thinly line my upper and lower lashline. It applies well there too.

This eyeliner goes on very smooth and VERY dark black. I only have to use a little, so I can tell that this is going to last for a very long time. I also love that I can smudge this a little if I don't want a really defined line. This product is so perfect and versatile!

♥♥♥ Thank you, Clinique!!! I recommend this fo' sho' and I will continue to repurchase.
