I actually like this polish! I haven't had a black nail polish in my collection since my grungy days in the 90's and picked this up when Sally's had their 3 for the price of 2 CG. I will agree that you definitely need at least 2 coats to get the black colour thats in the bottle. I love the shiny finish it has but I do find it takes a lot longer to dry than other CG polishes. Love the brush, and with a top coat it lasts for a fairly long time. Does wear a little at the tips but thats nothing a tiny file of the tops can't fix. I will repurchase if I ever run out!

I completely agree with the other reviewers regarding the drying issue. The first time I put it on I applied two coats in the afternoon, and it just would not dry. It was so bad that, the next morning, the polish had an imprint of my sheets in it. So, I applied one more coat to cover that up and, after a couple of hours, I got so frustrated I gave up and let the polish pull, scratch, and do whatever it was going to do. I was angry because it really is a great color, and I usually love CG.
Today however, I took off all of the old mess, put down two new coats, then applied Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. My nails look fabulous, no scratches, no dents, just perfect shiny, black nails.
So, my recommendation if you have this polished or if you are thinking of buying it, definitely use a quick-drying top coat. It might be the only way to make the polish work.

Everybody needs a good black polish! I love black.. my fingers are usually a bright color, but my toes are almost always black. I think it just looks so chic. I gave it 4 lippies just because it does take a few coats to be opaque, but once you get there you have a nice true/shiny black!

Impossible to wear only one coat, but after 2 coats you get a flattering shiney opaque black! It's not too light or too dark. It's fab for painting zebra stripes with a thin brush also. Dries quick and doesn't chip for days! <3

I didn't like this, but I didn't realize it was a jelly when I bought it. Oops.
The brush seems narrower than any other China Glaze brush I've used.

When I first applied this polish I was kind of disgusted by how it looks with only one coat because it's a gross streaky grey-sh green color. I was able to get full opacity with two coats but i should mention that the second coat was kind of thick. When dried the color was very glossy and a perfect black. I saw someone complained about the polish not drying and I didn't experience any drying problems despite the thick coats but I should mention that I used seche vite as a top coat. One final criticism would be about the brush, it's way too narrow for my taste and I felt I had to use alot of strokes to cover my whole nail.

Just a plain black it does it's job. I love the name Liquid Leather. It was super cheap $ 3.25. I'm slowly falling in love with China Glaze I feel like I'm cheating on Opi. lol

Like another reviewer said, this is a brown based black polish. I ADORE the color. It's a black but because of the brown undertones, it doesn't look too harsh on my pale skin. It's softer.
HOWEVER, if I could find this shade in another polish that worked better, I would never purchase this polish again.
This polish is a royal pain. I'm ok w/ the sheer factor and having to put 3 coats on. I'm used to that w/ dark shades. The brush is GREAT.
The problem is this: I painted my nails at 8:30 this morning. It is now noon. The polish is STILL not all the way dry. It's dry enough on the surface (thanks to Diamond Dry) that I can function and do light work around the house, but I am still having to be careful of my nails. It's still wet enough to nick or take on a towel imprint if I tried to shower and wrap a towel around myself. (ask me how I know).
I put on a THIN first coat. Waited until it was dry to add coat #2. When THAT was dry to the soft touch, I added coat 3. After 5 minutes or so, I added top coat and then OPI Drip Dry. After an hour, it was nowhere NEAR being dry enough to do anything productive, so I added a coat of Diamond Dry.
I will keep trying different methods to see if I can make this work because I ADORE the color, but the minute I find another soft black w/ brown undertones, this is going in the trash.

i love this polish! you only need a couple coats to get the color to show. it's not thick at all so after wearing it for like 2 weeks the polish stays on, no chipping!! i love it! the color is great...along with it being black, it has like an irridecent color to it...i think it's like green or blueish...but it's really nice and subtle. you can only tell when it glistens in the sunlight ;)

China glaze shame on you for cheaping out on this color. The pigment is sad at best. It takes a minimum of 3 coats to be somewhat opaque and is still streaky at that.
If you want a good black creme I suggest Wet n wild black creme which is opaque in 1 coat.
Boo on liquid wannabe leather

great black polish. It takes about 3 coats to get a good, solid, glossy black, but its worth it because it lasts forever! I've had mine on for four days so far and hardly any chips, something I cannot say for my OPI black polish. I love it!

I think this is a good nail polish. Yes it's kind of sheer, but big deal! OPI pumps out disgustingly sheer polishes on the daily and we still worship them. So, I don't mind doing that extra 3rd coat to get the opacity I need. Its a sexy, sleek black color every time. My only problem is that it bubbles for me, so if you have any advice for me, please message me!

I got this at Sally's Beauty for $3.25 with my Sally's card, and I got this during the April buy 2 nail polishes get 1 free sale (so 3 nail polishes for less than $7?YAY). I think that everyone should have a black nail polish because it's so versatile, and it's always there when you need it - what i mean by that is when you don't want to wear a bright green or do frenchies, then you can always turn to your black! Black goes with everything :) ANYWAY, so yeah, this polish is pretty okay, i've had better blacks though. The pigmentation of this is horrible, you have to do about 3 coats to get the perfect black color, but 2 coats would do justice. THOUGH, if you're like hella lazy and usually apply one coat (like me!), this will not work for you! If you only apply one coat, the polish looks like a gross, murky gray color - nothing like the bottle! I also think it's pretty streaky too, so I would never apply one coat with this or any other China Glaze polish. I also wish that the brush for it would be wider so I could just paint my nails quicker w/o it being streaky. I don't think that there's that much of a smell to it either, it doesn't really have the chemically smell like other nail polishes. I don't think I would purchase this again, but i'll probably finish it.

I love China glaze nail polishes, they're the only brand that I've found that does not chip right away and the color payoff on them are very nice! Well that isn't true for liquid leather, I need to put on at least 3 coats to make it look black! Oh why oh why do I need to put on that much nail polish to get a nice dark black color? If my 99 cent wet and wild black can make my nails looks sexy with 2 coats, why can't you china glaze? I would not repurchase this color just because of how see through 2 coats look like on my nails and how thickly I have to put this on to make it actually look black.

i agree with the other girls. this is a 3-coater which is diappointing. having to go from sheer greenish-grey to slowly build up to black is annoying... and means waiting carefully a lot longer for polish to dry (china glaze usually has fab drying time, very fast).
there is a nice shine without top coat, since this is from the patent leather collection --whatever..-- but there are way better blacks out there. skip this one!

LL is generally a good polish. I needed something mainly for layering, and this does the trick just fine. It does take 2 coats (possibly 3 if you were going to wear it alone) to get good opacity, but that's no big deal to me. I do know I've heard some blacks are opaque 1 coat (WnW, CC) so if I really needed that, I'd be back shopping. Since I don't, I'm quite happy with LL---it's nice and glossy (I always wear topcoat to extend my mani though) and wears well (I've worn it as a pedi for nearing 2 weeks at this point, not chipping or wear). Plus it was easy to obtain at Sally's for $3.25 w/card, so no internet order with high s&h was necessary!

Not very impressed with this polish (not opaque enough). In all fairness I actually bought it to Konad with (which doesn't work well at all...maybe I got a bad bottle). It's a brown black and it takes a couple of coats before it's opaque (this is probably why it looks brown on the stamper). If I was looking for a black polish to do a manicure with this wouldn't be bad.
Creme finish

This is an inky-black with a wonderful shine. I prefer this flat-black over OPI Onyx any day. I can wear this all week without the fear of chipping. Perfect black polish HG!

I've read great things about this polish, so I gave it a shot. Liquid Leather is a brown-based black, instead of the usual grey or blue base, and it's the "warmest" black I've ever worn. The color is great, but the formula just isn't working for me. I had a lot of streaking and pulling, and the color isn't even completely opaque after three coats. It's wearing fairly well, but I reapply topcoat nightly, so a polish has to be astonishingly bad to chip with all of the extra protection.
It's an okay polish, but there are much better blacks for a lower price.

This goes on extremely smooth, no streaks or pulling. The black requires several coats to work it up to opaque. Compared to another black np I own, Zoya Raven, this is much smoother to apply, and also is truer brown based black that goes on sheer at first. Dried quick and very glossy.
Like rich black patent leather lives up to the name.
