I am on my second tube of this mascara. I think this is the best curling mascara out in the market right now. I have Asian lashes which are straight and short (using Enormous Lash now, hopefully that will help lengthen them). My problem was I curl my eyelashes and then put on mascara and after applying mascara, my eyelashes are straight again. However, with this mascara, it keeps my eyelashes curled all day. It's not very volumizing though, that's the downside. But I use this as a base to keep the curl and layer on Giorgio Armani's Eyes to Kill and it works. Overall, I will keep buying this.

Shu Uemura's mascaras are the only mascara that holds a curl to my eyelashes, with that said, this has slight more volume that basic gives, zero lengthening to my lashes tho..

This product is overpriced and did not give volume to my eyelashes! The only good thing was, no clumps!

I bought this mascara under the recommendation of user reviews on this site. Now I wish I read more of the reviews! It does not thicken my lashes. I was having to constantly put more and more coats on just so I could see the mascara. Plus it smudged by hour 6. I expect waterproof to stay on no matter what. After only 2 uses, I will be returning this mascara.

This mascara is certainly waterproof. I was removing it with makeup remover and I thought I had gotten it all off but after washing my face I discovered that I didn't get it all off. It doesn't thicken your lashes much which is probably why I thought I cleaned all of it off. It does stay better (meaning not making racoon eyes) then a lot of the other mascaras I have tried and I liked the wand. The tip is smaller and it gets larger. I found that this seperated my lashes as most wands tend to clump and coat my lashes together.

Worst mascara I've ever used. What didn't flake off ended up smudging off. Too much money for a mediocre product that lasted less than a month before it hit the trash can!!

This stuff is good, but I wouldn't call it a holy-grail product for me. First off the application is not fool-proof. You have to be careful not to apply too much or you get clumps. I have found placing it in a cup of hot water for 30 seconds helps with this though. But honestly for $23, it should completely rock. The positives are that it is very lengthening, does not weigh down my half-Asian lashes, and it is easy to achieve a natural look. I think next I'll try shu's basic mascara, or maybe imju fiberwig. I'm new at mascaras.

If you love Shu's Basic Mascara, do not stray like I did. Sephora online was out of stock so I tried the Precise formula. Nuh-uh. Made my lashes look terrible because it clumped ever so slightly, giving me the damaged lashes look - similar to a frizzy hair day. I sent Precise back and picked up a trusted Basic. That'll teach me, huh.

I used this product for about 2 years until I found a cheaper and better alternative, the Covergirl Volume Exact Waterproof Mascara.
There are two sides to the brush: one to build volume on the lashes and the other to lengthen it. The side with more dense bristles is the volume building side which you should use first.
I noticed that my lashes were more volumized but it was a pain to take time out to get it just right. The waterproof formula was amazing. I found though at the end of the day, there was a bit of flakiness and the mascara smudged a bit.
I guess not all high end products are that much better than drug store brands.

There is nothing about this mascara that I like and for $23 this shouldn't happen. I have used drug store brand that perform better than this. I do not understand the hype around Shu Uemura products, I have tried their much-hyped eyelash curler, which is terrible, their bronzer which is mediocre at best, and now this mascara. I have to stop listening to magazines that probably just get paid to say this stuff is good. It barely gave me any definition and I actually go for the naturally defined look. And for a waterproof mascara, it gave me the worst racoon eyes. I have a problem with my mascara smuging by the end of the day but this didn't even last much longer than after lunch. Some non-waterproof formulas have held up better than this. I know some reviewers said this stuff didn't smudge so I guess it depends on the person but this was terrible for me. Honestly, I'd rather use nothing than this stuff.

I got the purple one. The purple doesn't really show on my black Asian lashes (they're not that short), and it doesnt really build volume. Also, it's impossible to get off. I've even used the Shu Cleansing oil... will not repurchase.

Absolutely love this mascara! Used together with the Shu curler, it keeps my asian lashes curled all day. The formula is light enough and doesn't weigh down my lashes at all. It never clumps and you get the most natural looking lashes ever. However I must add that if you're looking to get dramatic va-va-voom lashes, you'd be better off with Lancome. Unfortunately, I find that Lancome mascaras are touch and go. You really need to try them because not every formula will keep my lashes curled. Ampilcils does (which Lancome has discontinued) while Virtuoso is a complete disappointment.
This is my HG mascara. I'm onto my 3rd tube already!

This is a HG for me. It ticks all the boxes:
- holds curl
- doesn't smudge
- waterproof
- doesn't irritate/dry eyes
- long lasting
- fantastic brush

I love the simple packaging. It's really a great product, paired with my Shiseido curler it gives me not only volume but length too. buildable. Great hold and very My only gripe is the awful price - and also it smudges a little.

Love it . i am not a fan of waterproof as it is drying out the lashes but this one is a keeper. stays on , rub proof, water proof, holds the curl. it doesnt give that much volume but it really looks natural on. totally a keeper. if you use a mascara base, apart from shiseido mascara base, it doesnt give the best result. so use it alone.
the brush is so great, so small and easy to use, it is perfect for Asian eyes!!!

this is the BEST mascara i have ever tried. i have the shortest and straightest lashes you can ever imagine and this mascara does wonders! i absolutely love it! it adds amazing length and holds a curl. despite the name, this mascara adds more length than it does volume. don't worry about the waterproof part because it's really easy to take off. i use neutrogena oil free make up remover. the brush however does take a little getting used to, but after a few times, it gets easier. it's a bit pricy at around 23 dollars (from neimans) but it's totally worth it!

I've never liked mascara until I bought this- this mascara does AMAZING things to my lashes. It never clumps, goes on smoothly, and makes my lashes look even longer and adds more volume. I love it, I'll definitely repurchase.

This is my favorite mascara. It gives similar results as Mascara Basic only it is a true rich black and it doesn't flake. Unfortunately it is waterproof and I have to use a separate eye makeup remover rather than washing it off with a facial cleanser (my preferred method), but I find all the mascaras that I was able to wash off so far also smeared and flaked in the end of the day. So I guess I have to compromise somewhere. My eyelashes look beautiful though: curly, black, very natural looking and at the same time stand out quite nicely because they are so perfectly defined. I think this mascara is not really volumizing (Mascara Basic gives more volume i think), but because it gives such nice definition, it doesn't matter. My eyelashes look as they are supposed to look.

How disappointing it is to read great reviews on a product and then find out it does not live up to the hype...well, for you anyway. I dont mind spending money for a great make-up product so after reading reviews on several blogs I gave this one a try. Not at all volume-producing for me. I have given it several try too...and nothing! I guess I will continue to switch back & forth from the CG 'Lash Blast' to the Lancome 'Hypnose' as I continue to seach for my HG mascara. UPDATE July 2008: OK...maybe I was wrong the first time... I am beginning to like this one now in 3 coats....

This is my all-time favorite mascara. It never smudges, clumps, flakes or smears. And it dries in a flash. This is an absolute staple.
