The colour turned out really nice. I used brown cool & collected on my already dark brown hair. BUT.. I lost more hair washing it out than I think I've lost in my entire life. Traumatizing :( Obviously won't be repurchasing.

I can honestly say this is the only drugstore haircolor that got my medium-to-dark brown hair a pure, vibrant red. (See my profile for a picture.) Granted, my color choices have become much more subtle since I've aged, but "wow," Clairol makes some intense reds. If you want red hair, this is your dye.

I've tried every other drug store hair colour out there, hoping to find the perfect brand. Herbal Essences was the only one I did not try, so I decided to give it a go. I'd been looking for a purpley-brown tone for awhile, and I couldn't believe it when I saw 67 Dark Burgundy Brown. The perfect colour! I bought it and put it in that day. When I was finished, the colour looked awesome. Of course, that was only after I had used the conditioner that came with it. After a few days of not washing my hair (so the colour would have time to full absorb into my hair), I thought it was safe to wash it, since it had started to get greasy. When I washed it with colour-safe shampoo for the first time, red appeared in the water. My hair dye was washing out. Thinking that this was just because it was my first time washing, I didn't think it was a big deal. Well, I wash my hair every other day. And since then, every time I've washed it, my dye has visibly washed out down my drain everytime I shower. Now my hair is a horrible orangey-red. This is probably the worst dye I've purchased -- and I've tried them all! Take it from me ladies, if you're not going to get it professionally done, atleast buy a box of L'Oreal. It's the best drugstore brand.

my hair is naturally light brown and hasn't been dyed, ever. i tried to dye it red ("paint the town" no. 44). it turned out a horrible, very, very fake looking purple red at the top and stayed brown at the bottom. awesome, huh?

I wanted a vivid red to use on my hair and I purchased the Color me Vibrant in Disco Inferno 47. I am truly pleased with the brightness of the color. The conditioner the color came with was amazing, my hair felt like silk. Another bonus is the fact that the dye itself had a pleasant smell and not a gaggy kind. Will use again.

My first experience with boxed hair colour. Wanted to go from my natural light brown to golden blonde; bought #19 Medium Golden Blonde - Goldie Locks. The chemical smell wasn't too bad & the conditioner smells amazing! I left it on for 40 minutes and when it had rinsed there was a definite orange tint! Panicked, I dried my hair and the orange was mostly gone. I used Hue Color Enhancer shampoo & conditioner for blondes and by 2 shampoos my hair was completely golden, no orange. The colour lasts quite well, at least 4-6 weeks with only minor fading on my hair.

This is not for people who have any gray!
Beware...
I have a lot of gray and I thought that I could try this color. Now I can't blame Clairol because they clearly say "no no" to gray hair. My hair was not a red brown when I was processed, it was orange blonde. It was not very pretty but I fixed it. So I'm basically just warning those of us who have those early white hairs. Steer clear!

I use this occasionally in the Auburnin Hot shade. I like to try out different light auburns from diff. brands, just to mix it up a little. Auburnin Hot is a gorgeous vibrant yet natural toned auburn. My natural haircolor is a very light brown/dark blonde. It's hard to find an auburn shade that is neither too red nor too brown, nor too dark or light, but this seems to fit the bill on all accounts. Also, this is by far the best smelling hair dye on the market (and yes, I've tried them all!). Now, I will say that I had a VERY bad experience with HE color awhile back, in Chocolate Velvet, which turned my hair pitch black with lighter BLUE patches....so it took me awhile to trust this brand again, but the color of auburn looked soooo pretty I couldn't resist, and I'm glad I took the plunge again. Garnier Nutrisse is still my fave brand though, Feria and HE would tie for 2nd.

Thanks to those who recommended a strand test with this product. I usually just go for it and dump product on my head, but I'm glad I did one. I was going to try #44 (Paint the Town) which should be a vibrant red, but the test showed up very burgundy and dull. I went back to my Feria color. Still not the red I wanted, but at least it was familiar and safe.

I tried #48 Brazen Raisin because it was on sale and I had a coupon. My natural hair colour is black. I didn't expect much of a dramatic change in colour, and that's exactly what I got. There is a slight burgundy shine when I am out in the sun.

This is the first product I used that made my hair my dream color, I used the shaded Extra Light Blonde. My roots however came out a tad orange, but barely.......I simply used left over dye on the orange parts and they turned out the color rest of the hair was. I will purchase this again for sure :)

I'm happy to say this is still my HG color, if they were discontinuing it then I would be really mad because this gives me the perfect color, also when my roots grown in and the color sort of fades it still looks GORGEOUS! I've gotten so many compliments.

i was a bit hesistant to buy this product after reading all the bad reviews but decided to give it a try, overall the hair dye wasnt too bad, didnt hate it, but didnt love it either...the best thing about this dye is that it smells great, better than any other hair dye i've used, and the conditioner left my hair really soft..also, i didnt have such a hard time washing it out, but the application was pretty messy...

i used medium brown, which is foxy brown, and it turned out a little too dark which is why i rated this dye with only 3 lippies. i prefer the medium brown in garnier nutrisse which turns out a little lighter,

anyways i probably will be sticking with nutrisse, i'll see what the color looks like after a few washes, if it lasts longer than nutrisse i may use it again

Bought in Chocolate Velvet (#66 dark brown).....used on my naturally dark brown hair to enhance the colour..... TURNED IT BLACK. I've dyed my hair with Nutrisse before in dark brown (ebony it was called) and it didnt turn my hair black so i am very shocked, upset and disappointed with this product.
Now I have to get my hair stripped and re-dyed. I did NOT want black hair at all.
(conditioner was fabulous though..)

I'm afraid to repurchase this brand even in a different colour.

After purchasing Herbal Essences Color Me Vibrant in Chocolate Velvet, I chickened out. I have medium brown hair with red tones and have been using a medium ash brown for quite sometime now. I got nervous that the Chocolate Velvet would be too dark for me, although I want rich dark brown hair. So....I called the help line and the woman was VERY helpful. She listened to my hair dying stories and recommended I try Brown, Cool and Collected (#57). I LOVE it! It is a gorgeous color brown and although there is still a slight bit of red, it looks great. The application was easy. I didn't find that it dripped too bad. A little in the beginning. I applied on my roots, let it sit for 15 minutes and then did the rest of my head and let it sit for 10. Rinsing it out wasn't as difficult as other people have said, but it wasn't super easy either. It took a couple minutes. The conditioner it comes with is fabulous and my hair is so shiny and pretty!
I will definitely buy this product again. I still think I could go a little darker though! I don't really judge products on fading because I have a soft water system and a salt water swimming pool, so it's not really fair for me to judge because my color is going to fade rather quickly regardless!

I used this about a month ago in "Chocolate Velvet", and it turned my medium-dark brown hair pitch black with weird lighter blueish patches of hair! It was awful, and I had to strip out the color and re-color my hair (not with HE)! Never has a dark brown turned so black on my hair before! I will say that it was probably the best smelling hair dye I've ever used...but that it also gave me the worst results I've ever gotten from a haircolor! It's my fault I guess, I should have done a strand test first. I'll stick with my cheap, but always reliable Colorsilk!

My natural hair color is a medium to dark brown. I used Herbal Essences #56 Light Brown (Brown To Be Wild). It turned out great. It lightened my hair to a light brown color. It was easy to apply and didn't drip. It didn't have the harsh chemical smells that some hair color kits have. The conditioner left my hair shiny and soft. I will be using this hair color again. I would recommend this brand to anyone.

this hair dye is amazing, i was a loyal costumer of garnier nutrisse and 100% color but garnier pulls too much red on my hair and four weeks later the color looks pretty dull because it washes out like crazy. herbal essences stays the same, i used chocolate velvet.

I bought this in Paint The Town hoping that it would dye my hair [which was faded dark red dye that was an auburn color] a true red. It turned my blonde roots the bright red color I wanted, but made the rest of my hair a dark red, almost burgundy purple color. The worst thing about this hair color is that it fades faster than any I've ever used. After only three washes my hair is a dull brown color and looks orange-red in the sunlight. I definitely won't be repurchasing but I do like that it made my hair shiny and didn't have a strong ammonia smell.

I used Color Me Vibrant. I used this years ago when they called it Red Penny and I loved it. It was a very vibrant red. I used to laugh b/c little girls constantly told me that I looked like Ariel the little mermaid. So, I decided I wanted to go back to that color. I was surprised to see they had changed the packaging and the name. The must have changed the formula also, because this time I ended up with fuscia hair!!!!! No joke. I have died it 3 times since with darker and darker colors but the fuscia keeps peeking through!!!!! I wanted vibrant hair not pink hair. Now, I have to strip the color and start over b/c the pink undertones will not go away.

Loooooove this stuff . Naturally I have medium brown hair , a little on the lighter side , but I always dye it a dark dark brown. This hair color in .. I'm not sure the color , something velvet .. is gorgeous. My hair is so shiny and SOFT , I love the conditioner that comes with it. I use this dye every time I dye my hair because it just works so well.
