I received a sample of this and upon reading the ingredients, knew it'd make me break out--it lists CYCLOPENTASILOXANE as the first ingredient, which is a SILICONE, and my skin is super sensitive to heavy silicones aside from dimethicone. This face base is heavily scented with what smells like grapefruit and lemon and feels rather lightweight, but slightly sticky. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with sensitive skin or who is remotely acne-prone, solely based on the ingredients alone, but for someone who's not too sensitive to silicones/has normal skin, this might be ok. Doesn't feel too hydrating, though, so might not work for anyone with dry skin either.

I have read some reviews online and decided to give it a try. I have fairly dry skin and I was worried that this product might not be mosturizing enough for me. Well, it turned out that I was wrong. This product is a GREAT MOSTURIZER AND PRIMER that hydrates my skin and makes my make up look flawless. Definitely a MUST HAVE.

As a huge fan of BB I had really hoped to like this but unfortunately it turned out to be a waste of money. I have very dry skin that is not prone to breaking out, yet this consistently makes me break out. The very lemony scent and the thick texture of the cream are quite nice but unfortunately I will discontinue using this as it breaks me out. Maybe my mom will have better luck with it...

honestly wanted to love this product cus i've always been looking for a moisturizer that works wif my make up routine (i use those korean B.B. creams),, but omfg. it looked so oily. andddd i think it gave me tiny bumps all over my t-zone. i exchanged this for bobbi brown's hydrating face cream,, wasnt any better at all!!! and after all this fuss, i just exchanged those for their eye shadows (and a forehead full of acne from these pots of crap.)

I was looking for a less expensive moisturiser. I saw the reviews and picked this up at Holt Refrew in Toronto. It smells lovely, and is in a pretty bottle. This moisturiser did an okay job, but surprisingly, like many cheap/mediocre creams out there it felt like it just sat on my face, i.e. when I gently take my nails to my face after applying, residue would gather underneath them. I'm surprised at all the good reviews from people with oily skin like mine. It is definitely not for people who don't have dry skin, because it does not absorb 100%. It did not improve the quality of my skin at all. Will not repurchase. Retails for $60 CAD for 1.7oz/50ml.

This is my HG face base, and a little bit goes a long long way. It makes my skin smooth and hydrates in all the right areas. Some people have complained about the scent but i found it pleasant and mild. The price tag is high, but it will last forever! A must have!

Absolutely amazing product. I use my Clinique 3-step system and then apply this about 5 mins after my Clinique moisturiser. Evens out skin nicely, and makes it feel so smooth. The only thing I hate about this product is the scent but that is down to personal preference as after reading through reviews on here a lot of people seem to like it.

I wanted to like this face base but i just couldnt stand the smell of it after using it a few times. i wound up giving it to a friend because the smell was making me nauseous. it is way too strong
EDIT 1/26/13 I decided to give this product another try and was able to start getting used to the scent I am using in the morning instead of night. Using as a primer. Put it over my Olay spf 15 day moisturizer and before my makeup. Makes it a really smooth application and provides extra moisture and softness.

I haven't been using this long- I got a sample with an order- but I love it so much that I think I will purchase it as long as it doesn't make my skin break out (I'll have to wait a bit and see). However, I see immediate positive results already. This stuff feels cool and smells good. A little goes a long way and it made my skin moist but not greasy. I thought since I have combo skin that it might make my foundation come off earlier than when I use a regular primer but my foundation actually went on better and lasted longer. I kept thinking how glowy my skin looked today whenever I looked in a mirror. I also like that it has a combination of vitamins in it though the sample jar is clear which is not the best way to store antioxidants. I personally love that it is SPF free as the SPF in products generally causes me to break out.

I have a mixed feeling about this cream. Don't get me wrong, as I really like it and enjoy putting it on my face. I just don't know how to incorporate it into my daily skincare routine. I prefer a day cream/lotion with SPF, which this "face base" doesn't have. I don't feel like it's a "moisturizer" but a primer per se. And if I put this on in the morning, I'll have to apply sunblock which tends to make my face too oily to put on any makeup. At night, I prefer using some night cream with anti aging or repairing effects, or some really good hydrating cream, which then again the face base does not exactly do that. I love how it glides on my face, its fresh scent, and everything else about this cream but I just don't know when to use it! It feels redundant to my daily regimen, even though I do like it.

So in the end I just returned it to the store and kept the hydrating cream from BB as well. But I'm sure I'll still purchase it when BB has this 25% off deal at their website, just to stock up the item!

I got some samples of this from my local Bobbi Brown counter when they had run out of jars for purchase. I actually really love this moisturizer, but not enough to justify the cost. But, if you have the money-I say go for it! It is very light and moisturizing-perfect for going under your foundation. In addition, it has a fabulous smell-but this may not be good for those who are sensitive to stong scents. I have dealt with bouts of extremely severe acne (so much so that even my dermatologist was shocked), and this product gave me no problems in that area.

I received this product as a gift at Christmas, it is not something I would normally be tempted to buy myself, but I absolutely love it !!! and will definately be re-purchasing !!
It smells wonderful, like fresh creamy lemon, goes on easily, does not affect my oily skin and I definately get a better resullt from my foundation with this underneath, I find my foundation (Nars sheer glow) does on better after having this underneath and I don't need to use as much of it.
My only small complaint is that it is in a jar, and so with fingernails it is a little difficult to dispense, I would of prefered it in a tube or pump.

I am on the fence about this. Love the scent, but it only moisturizes enough for summer months or if I add some jojoba oil (thanks MUAers for this valuable tip!). Plus, it tends to sting for a couple minutes on my tretinoin-treated skin. Back to the reliable Atopalm (in the tube) for those days when it's too sensitive to use this.

This product is one that I will keep repurchasing for the rest of my life! I'm on my third jar now and that just goes to show how much I love it. It smells very citrus-y and I really like that about it. More importantly though, this moisturizes my face like none other. I have oily/combination skin so I do get some dry patches on my face sometimes. Now we all know that when your face gets dry and flaky, the foundation that you apply on top of it will just accentuate that dryness. This is where that product comes in. It hydrates your face really well so that those dry patches become moisturized and less noticeable. Once you apply your foundation, it looks much better with this product underneath it!

The only problem I have with this is that it is a little expensive ($50). I think it's totally worth it but if you're a bit hesitant to buy it on the spot, Bobbi Brown counters usually have samples of their products so maybe you can try asking for one. But overall, two thumbs up for this product!!!

I have tried to make this work many times with my Bobbi Brown skin foundation and I think this product actually made my face/foundation look worse. It irritates my skin turning it red, and the very first day I started using this again my mom told me my face looked dry so I took this off and used a home made olive oil/sugar scrub and my dry skin is much better for a lot cheaper! For a 54$ cream I was expecting a lot more. Hate to be negative, especially when the majority seem to like this product, but it just didn’t work for me. : (

Let me begin by saying that I am reviewing a SAMPLE of this product that came with my last Bobbi Brown online purchase. Therefore, I only used the product two times until the sample ran out. However, I felt the need to write a review anyway.
First, let me say that it hydrates very well. It is thick but spreads smoothly on your skin, and it does not feel greasy or sticky. I personally, however, did not notice any difference in how my makeup applied over it, nor did it make my foundation (also by Bobbi Brown) last longer.
Now, on to the part I really want to address...the smell. This product has a VERY STRONG citrus odor. Personally, I don't like my face products to contain fragrance, but I think I could deal with it if it wasn't so strong. If you have ever used any furniture polish with orange oil in it, then you will have a very good idea of what this smells like. Seriously. It smells like something I would clean my cabinets with, not something that should go on my skin.
So, to conclude, I would never personally purchase this because it seems to moisturize, but not live up to its name as a "base". Plus it has that super-strong smell...

This is actually my first ever make up base. I bought it because I was looking for a face base and the make up artist told me that it can also be used as night cream. I've only been using it as a base, so for the impact of the vitamin-enriched contents I can't really say about the effect.

It moisturises really well and it makes the foundation glides smoothly on skin. It didn't irritate my skin at all.

I agree with the previous comment that it smelled so lemony. I'm not crazy about the smell. I think the packaging looks pretty but not practical and not hygienic, u have to use an applicator to get the product or using your hands. It is quite pricey, as for repurchasing, I will contemplate about it, until the jar is finished (it's quite a lot so I'm sure it will last me for a long time.)- will update again ^_^

This product is sooo moisturizing and makes you makeup look flawless. They say this is also a primer but it does NOT make your make up last longer which is why I only gave it four lippies. I also don't like the jar that you have to stick your fingers in. Doesn't seem very sanitary. A lot of people rave about the smell but personally I find it smells like lemon pledge. It's not offensive but I'm not crazy about it. I would buy this again because I love how it makes my makeup look.

In the more dry winter months, my oily, sensitive skin loves this. Makes a great base for foundation. Doesn't make my skin itch. Ask for a sample first. One pot of the regular size lasts for several months, so although it's pricey initially, I think you are getting a value. Having the skin type that I do I have a hard time finding a moisturizer that aides in applying foundation but doesn't over-moisturize my type of skin. Worth a try if you have the same problem as me. You can also try Laura Mercier's oil free foundation primer, although I haven't tried that in the winter yet (works great for me in the summer).
