This stuff is great but the problem is I have black hair, and I have to really work this in to make the white disappear. So I took off 1 lippie otherwise I really like this. It's great to give volume to a ponytail, it holds well.

I LOVE this product. I have very fine hair, but a ton of it. Normally styling cremes or waxes are too heavy for me and just look dirty. This, however, is light enough to give a natural look, but still allow for decent hold. This has just the right consistency to allow for easygoingm finger-combed texture, or a polished formal style. It smells great, lasts forever, and just works.

I like this product. I agree with the previous poster who said it's not the ideal product for flat-ironed or round-brushed styles; it's too sticky and clumpy for that. It's good for wavy hair though; I let my hair air dry, then I work it into my hair with a little bit of styling lotion when I want my curls to be defined and when I want extra hold.

It is also good for updos , as it provides a little bit of hold and a lot of separation. I especially like to use it the second or third day when I've styled my hair to be wavy and it has a lot of product in it already; sometimes after waking up my hair will be a tiny bit frizzy, but smoothing a bit of Defining Whip into my waves and then putting my hair up into an updo works like magic.

I have crazy frizzy hair and am on a never-ending quest for the perfect hair styling products... This is not it. Even after using a small bit, it left my hair sticky and obviously "styled". This went straight on ebay.

I only use this for my updo hairstyle, if I leave my hair down, I won't use this product. It tame all my fly aways and baby hair nicely, giving me a smooth clean look. This product holds my hair style really well, but it only works when I use a lot of it. That's why won't use this product when I leave my hair down because my hair ended looking very greasy; but it works wonderfully for all my updo hairstyle. I have thick coarse hair and I think this is for people with finer hair.

I have been using this product for several years now. I don't use it everyday, but all in all I think it is a good styling creme. You use it on dry hair for some texture and separation. It does have a bit of a lavender scent, but you either like Aveda smell or you don't. The jar is really a pain to get into with the lift up lid. You have to scoop your fingers into it and when it is getting low it ends up all over your hand. That would be my major complaint. It is really light so it doesn't leave your hair greasy like pomades do. I tend to use it when my hair is looking a little flat and needs some extra texture.

I didn't really like this product too much- I fell in love with the texture and the fluffy cool feel in my hands but it seems to slightly dry out the hair. I suppose it's like the feeling of using wax and then hairspray. The hold is just okay though.

A bit expensive but lasts forever as a little goes a long way. This is a bit thicker than whipped cream and you rub it btw your fingers and apply onto hair. I have extra fine hair that doesn't hold AT ALL and this did the job: adding texture to hair for the majority of the day. The best thing about it was that it leaves a matte finish which i love as i hate glossy fudge/gel which add oiliness to already oily hair.

I have fine hair and I use this every day to add just the right amount of texture to my hair so it is not so poofy and flyaway. It has the typical Aveda scent, which I like. I think the flip top container is a neat touch, but I wish it came in a tube or pump so that I wouldn't get half of the product under my nails when scooping it out of the tub. I also wish it was a bit less expensive but all Aveda products are overpriced. I will repurchase in the future though since I am addicted to them. :)

This is a pretty good product. It gives defintion & some hold to my fine hair. If I use too much, it gets sticky, so I have to be careful. I guess it's too thick to put in a bottle, but I'm not crazy about the jar; it's the kind of product that'll stick under your fingernails. The jar will last forever, such a tiny amount is needed. I haven't found anything better than this, but I haven't stopped looking, either.
UPDATE I stopped using this & have recently comr back to it & now I like it more than ever! Much better than most of the heavy products out there.

Love love love this! I wear my hair ultra-short because it's thick and fine (a nightmare combo). It's thick, so it weighs itself down easily and being fine, it has not much in the way of body. Wearing it really short means it has some texture and I don't have to deal with it (I'm lazy). I like the "I just woke up and don't I look fabulous" messy look. Control Paste worked pretty good but tended to get greasy looking in the heat of summer. Garnier's Surf Hair is also pretty great.

But this... this takes the cake. I do not apply sparingly, I get a nice glob on my finger, rub between my hands and apply when hair is still damp. Voila! The perfect, matte-and-not-greasy messy-but-fabulous look that holds all day. Love it! A bit spendy, but the scent is nice and I totally love the cool whippy texture.

I think I might have found my HG styling/finishing product. I have thin, stick-straight med. lengthed short hair (if that makes sense). I have been using Schwarzkopf's Fibre Gum for a long time, and loved it...but as my short hair is growing (I am trying to grow chin length hair), the Fibre Gum is too heavy, sticky and a tad greasy. This Defining Whip is light as air, adds a decent amount of texture, tons of shine and it seems like no matter how much I appy...it is not greasy or sticky. My hair looks amazing. The smell is kinda different...like medicinal Lavender, but pleasant. If you don't like, or you hate Lavender...avoid this product. I think I am in love with Aveda's Defining Whip. A+

This is great for a piecy look on baby fine hair. I used to use Rewind--which was good--but I'm sold on this. Need to use a light hand w/ this, as with any other wax/styling cream product, tho. My only real problem with it is the staying power--most waxes etc. last much better.

I generally think that Aveda products are a bunch of phooey--they use "natural" ingredients where your "unnatural," conventional ingredients work much better, and there is altogether too much hype. Aveda's also a nightmare to work with, as a salon. BUT this is a great product.

This is just to get rid of the fly-aways---

I use PM dry wax for the defined piecy look

For drugstore use Pantene Pro-V Ultimate Finish Perfecting Creme 4 oz for about $5---much better than the Aveda

I am a complete pomade junkie, and this is my HG pomade. I have tried so many products to tame my fine but curly hair, and this one is perfect! It creates texture and definition but doesn't leave a greasy look to my hair. I have received so many compliments since I started using this stuff! As with any Aveda product, a little goes a long way so the tub should last a while.

I was talked into this by a stylist ( surprise surprise!) But I really like it- makes me want to go hug her for not selling me some junk that will sit in my closet for years!

The product looks & feel like a cream- but once you take it out of the pot- it becomes very light & sheer in my hands. I use a small amt- like 2 peas- on my chin length razored angled bob. I cant feel it in my hair- but its doing something- my hairstyle keeps all day- I have volume, and its great for the piecey look.

I will def re-purchase it when I run out- which looks like it will be a while- this stuff is lasting a long time!

** EDIT 04/13/05** Its official, I'm in love. I don't know how it does it- but it does. My hair looks great with this- it gives my hair volume, definition & great hold. I would love to have it in some kind or a pump or something- bc I really hate getting it under my nails. The product looks & feels like noxzema - so I can see how a pump might not be an option. I cant rave about this enough- I really love it- and will def be re-purchasing when this pot goes.

I really like this styling product. At first, I felt like it didn't do anything -- I'd scrunch it into clean, dry (super short) hair, and it seemed like it just sunk in and absorbed; perhaps conditioned a bit, but not much more. As my hair got longer, I pulled it out again, and now I find I like it a lot. The difference? I use it as a finisher on top of another product. I start with confixor (or gel, or mousse) when my hair is damp, then finish with this. It seems to "reactivate" whatever I've put in earlier, still conditions, holds, and separates well. I really like it, and it's my husband's favorite (for his own hair).

I really like this product, it really smooths down my hair but yet holds my flip style that I love. It lasts forever because you only use a tiny bit rubbed between your palms and fingertips and then spread on the ends of my hair. Smells great too.

I love this product. It is the first type of pomade defining stuff that actually WORKS on my fine, straight hair without weighing it down or making it look greasy. It has a nice scent, not too overpowering. Love, love it.
