This probably gets a 2.5 from me. I just don't think it's quite right for my skin which is prone to clogged pores and hormonal breakouts - I feel the buttery texture might be contributing to an excess of congestion, and if not making my breakouts worse, it's obviously doing nothing to help them. It might be worth a try for those with dry skin - though I must note that it did nothing for my occasional dehydration/flaking. I do like the cloth method of cleansing though - I think I will keep using my cloth, but definitely with a different cleanser! Can't wait to finish this - it seems to be everlasting!!!

Packaging
Firstly, I love the packaging and infact the branding of Liz Earle products across the board. They look and feel sophisticated yet understated which I really like.
Cleanser
The product itself really is fantastic. The product glides well onto the skin and manages to dissolve make up with ease. Now here comes the clever part...the residue can be carefully and kindly soaked up and wiped away using the warm muslin cloth, which when massaged acts to also exfoliate the skin leaving you with a beautiful, soft and smooth skin surface.
Top marks!
Overall, this is an amazing product and would definitely feature towards the top of any 'desert island' wish list! I do feel for a cleaner it is a tad on the expensive side, but the quality of the product definitely justifies the price tag.

My grandma swears by Cleanse and Polish, so she bought the massive 200ml tube for me for chirstmas. Boy am I glad she did! I use a make-up wipe to remove my mascara as it can get a bit messy, but it removes my face make-up like a dream! As i have oily skin, my face looked a bit dull but this really feels like its de-slicking my face without being stripping gives it a lovely glow. I've been having a few break out due to pigging out over the Christmas period and its definitely helping them go away faster. Id say this is great for all skin types, as i said my Grandma uses it and she has mature, dry and very sensitive skin and she loves it! Well done Liz :)

I wanted to love this. I really did. It just didn't do anything whatsoever for my skin. I tried so hard to see any difference to my skin, but no. Nothing. If anything, it made my oil production slightly worse. I also hated the texture and how it kind of sinks in to your face, it made me cringe and I could just feel it clogging up all my pores. Luckily, I only purchased a 30ml bottle and I stopped using it before it did anything worse to my skin. SO disappointing!

After recovering from acne, by skin was pretty much clear, apart from the occasional hormonal pimple to two. I had tried this after my original pukka cleanser had run out, and for the first few days it seemed fine, but then my skin broke out. I now have little spots all over my face, even after switching back to my original cleanser. It's a shame that I tried this, especailly as I had just managed to clear my skin :( stay away from this product!

Absolutely rubbish. Having used this before, I can seriously see the difference with the new ingredient changes! (No doubt because of the recent Avon takeover). Before, this had a lovely menthal smell and it was a rich creamy texture which felt luxurious and good for your skin... I never had any problems with breakouts! Now, it has a awful smell and there is no longer any almond milk.. but instead cocoa butter- which is known to clog pores?!
My experience with this has been horrendous. Breakout after breakout after breakout. Thank god I went to my dermatologist and asked about this stuff or perhaps I would still be persevering with it!
Overall this is bad for skin, and despite the claims made by Liz Earle.. this cleanser IS NOT for everyone. It is stupid to claim that ONE cleanser will be suitable for all different skin types.

Last winter when absolutely NOTHING calmed my skin down, even the dermatologist gave me trial and error products that still didnt work, Cleanse and Polish did the job! This is simply the best and most effective cleanser i have ever tried!!! It truly is suitable for ALL skin types. Although you get specifically designed cleansers for oily skin, dry skin etc, this really works without needing to be specifically for certain skin types. It smells great, goes on great and feels lovely and soothing and works amazingly!!! its got a toothpaste consistency but not as sticky. And even before using a toner and moisturiser it doesnt leave the skin feeling dry or tight and this is coming from somebody who sometimes uses vaseline as a moisturiser as nothing is thick enough. The 200ml tube is more economical and u can get every ounce or product out! Would highly recommend and i purchase this regularly. Just saving up for a bulk buy!

I have oily acne prone skin that is now acting a bit differently than it used to due to the medications I have been prescribed by my dermatologist.
I now have to add peeling and sensitive to the equation. I cant use my normal cleansers because they are too harsh and make me peel like crazy, so I looked for a cleanser that would work without stripping my face and actually help take off my makeup.
While I like cetaphil (derm recc.) I only like it for my morning wash when I dont really have anything on my face already.
At night I have been using liz earle's 3 step process (hot cloth cleanser, instant boost toner, and light moisturizer) for the past month. I have to say I really like it! I take off my eye makeup first with a cotton pad and makeup remover (either bliss or bioderma) and then I use the three steps. My favorites are the cleanser and tonic, moisturizer is just ok.
They dont irritate my skin (which it seems almost everything does these days) and it cleans my skin without leaving me feeling stripped. Soft and supple! I would recc. keeping the muslin cloths clean, and I just throw them in the wash with my other towels every week, and they have turned out just fine. I will repurchase the cleanser and toner for sure.
This comes in a really nice pump bottle which love for hygienic reasons, and it smells primarily like eucalyptus and rosemary, although it is not an overwhelming smell to me (not like vicks vapo rub). It is a thick white cream that comes out, and I only use one pump all over my dry face, gently working in circles for about 30 seconds or so, while letting the water get warm for the muslin cloth. I really dont think it takes that long, and the results of smooth clean skin are worth it to me.

I have oily skin, which was looking dull until I tried this product. I'm on my second week and love it. Very easy to use. It leaves my skin feeling clean and soft. I do take my eye make up before using cleanse and polish. It removes my foundation amazingly! It smells amazing, if you like a more natural smelling product. The eucalyptus and rosemary really come through :)
I purchased the smallest tube just to try, I've just bought a full size pump bottle. I'm very happy!!

I don't usually write reviews but I just have to with this. I bought this cleanser after using Ponds Cold Cream (amazing) for a while. I will start off with saying that my skin is dry but was in good condition before trying this and always has been. I'd get maybe one or two hormonal spots a month and that would be that. I bought this cleanser because of the good reviews and was hoping it would take the redness out of my face. Right from day one of using this my skin started to break-out. I stuck at it because I thought it was just my skin adjusting to a new thing and it would soon calm down. 3 and a half weeks later I couldn't physically carry on with it any more. My face has completely changed, I now have more than 5 spots on my face at any time and it is very very sensitive. I blame my bad skin purely on Liz Earle because I changed nothing else in my skin-care regime. I immediately changed to Alpha H balancing cleanser which is helping me, but 4 weeks on and I'm still trying to sort out the mess this cleanser made of my skin. Would not recommend. Like others have said, the cocoa butter element is a stupid idea.

I used to love this cleanser when I was a teenager 15 years ago! It removed all my heavy eye makeup and kept my oil and spots under control my mum used to treat me to it every month but when I left home I couldn't afford to keep it going so went to high street brands. I recently saw this on qvc and it bought back so many good memories ( sounds like my Elizabeth Arden review lol) and yes this went downhill to! They've taken the almond milk out and added the evil pore clogging cocoa butter into It!!. The application of it felt more difficult to massage in and there was not much slippage to it like there used to be. The muslin cloth removal was nice as it was but it didn't remove my mascara like it used to it was very poor!. I could forgive that but after using 2 pump bottles I have a face full of spots and my skin is the greasiest it's ever been!. It's back to normal after reverting back to my usual products. Liz should not say this is suitable for everyone when she should no what cocoa butter can do to already congested skin. Was really disappointed.

I hightly recommend this cleanser. It never upsets my mature, dry, sensitive skin. This cleanser is a pleasure to use before bed to remove the day's dirt and grime along with the day's make up. It smells divine and works like a dream, so quick and easy.

I have combination skin, that sometimes get really dry and sensitive and sometimes oily. My skin changes during the month and seasons. I have found this cleanser to be really gentle and effective. It cleanses really well, does not dry out my dry skin, or leaves my oily skin more greasy. It has a nice, thick consisteny that is very pleasent to spread around. I tend to rinse it off most nights, as my skin can't take muslin exfoliation every day, but it also works really well with the cloth. It works well for taking off a lot of makeup. (I ALWAYS doubble cleanse if I'm wearing makeup), and I love that it works so well on both face and eyes.
I buy the 200 ml tubes, and they last me 3-4 months. I'm on my 4th now, I think, and have also bought it for my mum - who loves it as well!

I do like this cleanser a lot. But be forewarned, I don't use this as my primary cleanser. It's place in my beauty regimen is more of a makeup remover/pore-opener. Other makeup removers usually take too long to use, are too harsh, or are too oily for my skin. Using this hot cloth cleanser by Liz Earle is the perfect 1st cleanse before I go in with my Ren clay cleanser. Sounds a bit excessive, I know. But it's honestly done wonders for my sensitive, acne-prone skin.
I would love to use it as my primary cleanser, but my skin is just way too oily and too acne-prone to go with this alone. It's very gentle upon application and feels slightly luxurious while I'm massaging all the oil, dirt, and makeup away. It's even gentle enough to gently smooth over my eyes to remove eye makeup. Following it up with a muslin cloth under hot water (making the cloth WARM--NOT HOT) is a great approach to daily exfoliation. I'm already looking into other gentle cream cleansers (Pai, I've got my eyes on you!) since this has just made my skin very, very happy. No more forehead/nose/cheek/chin breakouts for me!
I can't recommend anything regarding this cleanser since everyone's skin is very, very different. I just hope that my experience helps some of you.

This is not a bad cleanser, but it's pretty much average. I surely cannot see what all the hype is about. It feels fresh upon application and a little while after you wipe it off, but it certainly does not remove 100% of makeup. I have not seen a noticeable change in my skin's glow or texture like others have reported. I have combination, acne prone skin and this cleanser does not clog my pores, which I find is very positive considering it is a creamy product, however, I do not feel it cleanses well enough and I have not seen the benefits that are attributed to it. Sadly underwhelmed.

I work for a large cosmetics company and it's my job to showcase my make up meaning I have to wear a lot of it. This means finding a cleanser that removes EVERYTHING quickly and leaves my skin looking clean and glowing is important to me. When I use this cleanser at night time, my skin STILL feels fresh in the morning, and I've never experienced this with any other cleanser. It's so quick and efficient to use - the hot cloth is relaxing and does a good job at lightly exfoliating my skin. The smell is divine and I love the natural ingredients. I've tried a lot of products and this is second to none. It's a beautiful product.

I was really looking forward to this product but it was terrible! It irritated my skin and caused a huge breakout all over my face. Must be due to the cocoa seed butter or Cetearyl alcohol?
Within two days I was back to my Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser and phew my skin calmed back down - spots gone!

I liked this and finished the bottle, but I'm not sure I'll repurchase. I like milk/balm cleansers in general (and always use a muslin cloth and love the Liz earle cloths!) but this one felt waxy on my skin. Even after removing it with the muslin cloth I felt like there was a waxy layer on my skin which kept my skin from breathing. I think beeswax is one of the ingredients. I like the Ren milk cleanser better, also Burt's bees orange oil cleanser and clarins cleansing milk are some that I like better.

hot cloth cleanse and polish makes my skin break and left me with red patches and flaky skin for the first few weeks. However i dont want to waste my money so i decided to keep on using it but only during the night (i clean my face in the morning with clerasil in order to keep the acne at bay) and also I only use half a pump of the hot polish instead of full pump because i feel that a full pump is just too much cocoa butter for my oily acne prone skin. After 'customising' my beauty routine I can see the benefit of using this product. I like the idea that you use muslin cloth to clean your face. So if you have bought this product and experience the same problem as I have, try 'customising' it and see weather it works for you or not.

So far, this is the best cleanser i have come across. I see why people love it. Im almost finished my second pump bottle and will next purchase the 200 ml tube.
It COMPLETELY removes all makeup, including eye makeup (although i dont wearwater proof if you find you need to use a seperate eye makeup remover first its no biggie!, plenty of cheap and effective ones out there like johnsons, boots botanics and l'oreal)....
I am very clog prone but have never found this to break me out or clog my pores.
I think maybe people arent cleaning their face correctly with this and thats why they are breaking out. I find the eve lom way is much better than the liz earle recomendation funnily enough, ..........
Just get your muslin cloth or face cloth, run it under water that is quite warm (but never boiling or uncomfortable to touch with your hands) and apply the cloth, holding it on your face for a few seconds ,(this basically melts the cream alot so you know you will easily remove the cleanser afterwards and opens pores to allow for really effective cleansing later), then go back and wet the cloth again and gently use the cloth to remove all the cleanser from your face then.
splash with some cold water and pat dry with a clean towel. some say this may cause broken capilaries, following with cold water but as long as you werent foolish enough to originally cleanse with boiling water or close to it, this will not happen. the water should be quite warm but never uncomfortable.
. I think the cream texture maybe suits normal, combination and maybe oily skin better and oily/balm type ceansers suits drier skins better. Although if you have dry skin you might still get on really well with this and the same applies to those with oily skin. its a cream, so it is kind of the perfect medium between very oily cleasners which can suit dry skin and gel cleansers that suit oily skin. IT IS WORTH A TRY FOR ANY SKIN TYPE in my opinion.
so:
PROS:
Completely removes all makeup, sunblock etc
Leaves skin feeling completely clean but never stripped, just really smooth and soft
smells devine
(what more could you ask for from a cleaner really?!)
CONS:
(Although not really a con more of a pet peeve lol)
Regarding liz earle in general, it should be more widely availabl in the real world because buying it online is a pain. I like to buy things the old fashioned way.
