I've purchased this product twice and I honestly am not too fond of it. I know that other reviews have commented on the gritty texture and I have had the same issue. It also leaves behind a white residue, making me look paler and then I have to be careful about the foundation I use because if I also use an oil controlling foundation (I have VERY oily skin) then I will look like a ghost. I also don't think this necessarily prolongs the wear of my foundation and I find myself going back to my other silicone based primers because they make my makeup glide on so smoothly and this product seems to make everything drag. Once my natural oil has broken through a little everything looks more natural, but until then, this primer makes me look like I'm wearing a heavy foundation and I prefer light coverage. All in all, it provides shine control for a couple hours and then I'm back to being oily. I'm basically just relying on oil blotting sheets and oil control foundation. Much less hassle than dealing with the negatives of this product.

Hey, I like this primer! I almost didn't buy this because of some of the negative reviews saying it felt "gritty", but Neutrogena has always had quality products that I've liked, so I gave this a shot.
First off, I didn't find this gritty at all. Seriously ..... What grit? It's a smooth white primer. Maybe some of the other reviewers had gotten a hold of old tubes, or maybe Neutrogena reformulated, I don't know. It wasn't gritty for me. That's all I know.
Secondly, it works great. No matter what foundation I wear this under, my makeup has a nice matte finish for hours. Unlike smashbox primers which leave my skin shiny and clogged, this Neutrogena primer actually feels and looks good.
Thirdly, it feels light. Not heavy or siliconey or waxy. It feels lightweight and nice.
Since I have oily skin, I do not apply a daytime moisturizer - instead I just apply this shine free primer to clean skin, then foundation with spf, then dust on some powder ..... And I'm good to go! This primer keeps my skin looking nice for hours. I'll definitely purchase again. Just goes to show .... Sometimes you just need to try things for yourself. :) I'm glad I tried this!

WOW! Love this! Went to Target to get the beautifully matte primer but they were out so I picked this up, it was on sale for $8.99. Yes it does feel gritty, I patted it into my T zone this morning and my face has stayed shine free for 12 hrs now! I do not have super oily skin, more combo, but do get very shiny by the end of the day. My makeup still looks pretty fresh after using this primer this morning over a light moisturizer and then mineral make up. I experienced no irritation what so ever from this. Will definitely repurchase.

I used this primer because I know that a lot of primers tend to break people out. I didn't really notice a difference with this primer and me wearing make-up without a primer. I with it had a bit of a tint to it too because it made my skin paler than it already was.

Where do I begin! I was on the hunt for a primer that would help my oily T zone along with smoother foundation and powder application, this primer does exactly that! I kid you not over the 10 hour period I had my foundation on, I didn't have to blot AT ALL. I was previously using the Rimmel fix and perfect 002 primer, it was eh, too greasy for my face. I went to Ulta and they were having one of their many awesome sales, for Neutrogena it was buy 1 get one 50% off so I bought the shine control primer and the shine control pressed powder, which is replacing my MAC blotting powder. Overall I'm beyond please with this product!!!

On its own this primer is rubbish. It's not a primer, it's a gritty mattifier. It will keep oily skin in check, but that is it. Fine lines and pores will actually be exacerbated and foundations/concealers will not lay flat.
Now, if you mix this in equal part with Monistat Anti-Chafing powder gel, well then you have one heck of a summer primer. Skin is smooth, soft as silk, fine lines and pores smoothed and oily skin kept at bay. A little goes a long way - between the two, you want to end up with a chickpea size worth of product at most. Give it a few moments to dry and you will have a lovely, powder smooth surface for makeup.
- does mattify
- mixes well with my favorite primer
- good packaging - like the black squeeze tube
- gritty texture
- drying, not priming
- expensive - not break the bank but not Monistat cheap
- is rubbish on its own
This gives my usual routine an oil fighting boost in the summer. Will repurchase for that reason. Only 3 lippies cause doesn't stand alone.

It's an ok primer but it doesn't stop my oilies like at all. Wouldn't bother using this again

I'm relatively new with primers. I used to use Smashbox but that was back when my mom would buy it for me, now my post-grad salary doesn't really allow for that!
But I wanted to try a primer, and my skin tends to get oily through the day, so I snatched this up at my recent trip to Target.
I put it on after my Neutrogena moisturizer and then applied my makeup as normal...at 6:30 this morning. It's now 6:02 and my makeup is still flawless! I do have a bit of oil, but it's definitely not as bad as it could be.
I've never looked this good almost 12 hours after applying makeup!!
Since this is my first time using, I'm not sure if it'll cause breakouts or not, but I have prescription strength benzoyl peroxide so I'm not really worried about it.
If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive primer that you can pick up most places, definitely go with this one!
I'm going out this evening and I'm almost tempted to just keep my makeup on from this morning!

I think this is THE best primer I have ever used. I have super oily skin and by the end of the day my eyeliner cakes up until I tried this one. Two stars b/c $12 still pricey after coupon. Squeeze tube gently, white cream goes on smooth and vanishes instantly; wait a few seconds and apply eyeliner - dries nicely and stayed put my whole work day. Paraben free ( i think) and the rice protein enticed me to try. No regrets.

Have already repurchased! love this! My skin is soo oily and this really helps keep the oil to a little less. I still have to blot and powder halfway through the school day but it's the best primer I've used.
