I was at CVS one day and seen this. Being that my skin is pretty oily, it caught my eye. Plus I just loved the square black container tube that it is in. I decided to give this a try since I do like Neutrogena products. This primer does what it is supposed to and keeps my oil under control. Not that I don't get oily at all during the day but I'm sure we all know there is no solution to stop the oil lol

This product is a bit grainy and it feels heavier to put on your skin than other primers may feel but does the job and I would definitely repurchase!

BTW the primer was about $13

Ive alwaus used expensive primers but was tempted to try this and Im sticking with it. It is really hard working for the price (11$) and although it does have the tiniest invisible grains here n there it is a rice protein primer and its expected. They are invisible anyway. It really holds my foundation, blushes, bronzers, and powders all day. I dont think Ill go back to 35$ primers. This works just as well. I even feel that the chalkiness after it dries helps the makeup to stick. Great primer. Blend wells and comes in a small sleek matte bottle. Will buy again

I was looking for a cheap but usable primer for a week-long business trip. This little gem, along with long-wear foundation did the trick. The cream is dry to the touch and a tiny little bit gritty but not at all noticeable when applied with a brush. Blends in very well. My skin doesn't tingle nor burn when I apply it, and it doesn't create a white coating, it blends well. I have oily t-zone and acne-prone/sensitive skin.

This primer does all it says it will and more! For reference I have combination skin with the typical t-zone oiliness and dryness everywhere else. I happened upon this at my local CVS last week and decided to give it a shot, even though the $8 price tag is heftier than I would have liked. I had a date the next night and decided to try this out. First of all, the texture is nice and light. I use a teeny tiny amount and apply to my t-zone first and then feather out onto the rest of my face. When I say I use a little, I mean the size of a pencil eraser for my whole face! I did not notice any graininess or whitish cast. Perhaps I am using less than the other reviewers here that had that problem. It held onto my makeup (Cover Girl Nature Luxe) ALL night and I did not need to touch up with any powder. I do not use this everyday but maybe three days a week; I can already tell a difference in the size of my pores and the oiliness of my skin, even when I'm NOT using it! I can't say enough about this primer. It works great! For comparison, my old go-to primer was Bare Minerals Prime Time; this is better!!

Using this primer has made a difference for my oily skin. Definitely works. Doesn't peel off. It goes on smoothly and leaves a nice matte finish. Also, it doesn't leave behind a weird base color that screws with my foundation shade. Would buy this again. I paid $7 for mine.

I like this stuff better than the BE prime time and that was my HG primer for a very long time. It claims to mattify and control oil for 8 hours and I do have to say it last more than 8 hours for me. I went from having pretty dry skin to oily skin within a few months and this has helped a great deal with the oil. Also, it doesn't leave me feeling greasy after an hour as with other primers. I would purchase this again, even though I don't see myself going through it quickly, since a very little goes a long way. The only drawback I can see from this primer is the price. I paid around $13 for it and that seems a little hefty for a drugstore brand to me, but it really is a superior product and I do have to say that it was worth the money.

I have extremely oily and acne prone skin! When I saw the ads for this I went out and bought it!!! But I am not positive that it is really working out for me... I have been using it for a couple months now, consistently on a daily basis.... Upon application, it makes my face look pastey and the consistency is a bit thick so it is hard to blend all over my face. Also there are weird rice complexes in the formula so its like I'm smearing rice all over my face. If I accidently put too much product on, it can peel/rub off on the edges of my face... EW...

Pros:
Good intentions
Okay oil control (not sure if it does anything)

Cons:
Rice bumpy complexes
Pastey white cast
Peeling/rubs off towards the edges of the face
Expensive for drugstore brand $10-12?

Will I repurchase?
Probably not, this is pretty pricey for a drugstore brand and I see no difference with my foundation if I use this primer or not. Same oil control ......... D:

I bought this about a week ago and so far I love it! I don't understand why everyone is saying its grainy...mine is actually creamy feeling and doesn't feel like sandpaper at all LOL. It has a nice scent too but usually I don't like my face products to have added fragrance. It didn't make my pores smaller like it says, but it helped a bunch with the shine. I'll def buy this again!

I absolutely love this primer. I notice a huge difference when I don't use it. It helps mop up excess oil on my face and reduce shine. I have already repurchased this twice. Can't live without it.

I have only been using this primer for a week or so. I thought it was a very sketchy product when I first saw it.. I've found it to work best with my Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation. I generally get oily only minutes after a apply my foundation and this primer held up so well.. Although i did find that I have to set it with my Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder. Overall I only had a tiny bit of oily-ness at the end of the day. I'm pretty happy with this product, it hasn't made me break out, and about the whole grainy texture about it I am not too fond of it. The smell is tolerable. If it keeps working I'll definitively re-purchase and buy the whole Shine Control line. Hope this helped!!!!!

P.S I like to apply this with my fingers better, it does dry out pretty fast. Retailed for $11 at my local Wal-Mart

This is a really great cheap primer! It does feel a little rough going on, but it seems to go away while applying it. I used this in hot humid Florida weather to keep my makeup from melting off my face, and I was really surprised at how well it worked! I haven't noticed any breakouts from using it either, which is always a plus!

Let me preface this by saying that I actually made an account solely to review this because it was THAT horrible. I have been looking for a slightly more budget friendly primer lately so when I heard about this I was pretty excited to try it. Normally I use the HD Microperfecting primer from MUFE or Smashbox Photofinish. I picked this up at Target and after showering and applying my moisturizer, put this on and the first thing I noticed is that it is grainy, which I'm assuming is from the rice protein or whatever is in it. It's super thick so you have to rub pretty hard and it feels like straight up sandpaper, no joke.

My skin is sort of dry/combination. Oily in the t-zone etc. I have had this one for about....4 hours now and my t-zone might as well have no primer on it at all, it has not controlled the oil at all, and I had to put so much extra work into covering the redness the sandpapery texture caused that it is not even worth it. $13 at Target is a total rip off for this product and I'm really mad I can't return it. Don't waste your money.

I have been using this for about a week now. I am confident to say that I have found my holy grail primer. This stuff is A-MA-ZING.
Okay...texture. It is a white cream with very fine particles (which I am assuming is the rice protein) that dries quickly, smoothly, and to a nearly clear finish on the skin. I say "nearly" clear because it does leave a hint--nothing awful--of a white cast to the skin. While I would not wear the primer alone because of that, as soon as a powder or liquid foundation is applied the hint of white cast is non-existent. This primer is not a slippery, silicone-y primer. Believe me, I have tried numerous primers that were silicone based and I have hated every single one of them.
So when you start applying this primer (and I will say I do use it over the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Combo Skin moisturizer and under the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Make-up, so I do have the trifecta of Neutrogena products going on here) you do have to work kinda fast because it does start sinking in and drying quickly. I have found I do have to use a little more than I think I would to get my entire face covered. Immediately I notice that my pores are filled in and my skin is very matte in appearance and smooth to the touch.
I think foundation, setting powder, and concealer apply like a dream over the primer. The foundation buffs in so smoothly, and since the Healthy Skin foundation has a little bit of a dewy finish it looks just amazing over the primer. Not scary matte, and not slippery shiny--just right.
I finish my makeup and go on my merry way. Now, before I started using this primer I would start looking shiny in about 3 hours. I mainly get shiny on my nose, chin and middle of forehead. I deliberately went about 4 hours before I even checked after using this primer--and it was still completely matte. It was another 3 hours before I felt I needed to blot up the shine...and even then it still wasn't all that bad.
It's also been in the 90's here this week and yesterday and today especially I was in and out of the car a lot and walking outside. It seriously kept my makeup in place and on my face. No shiny, gloppy makeup meltdown. And the proof was in my makeup wipe this evening when I removed my makeup--I'm willing to bet the same amount of makeup was on my wipe that went on my face this morning. It's been a hot, sweaty summer and that has not been the norm when I remove my makeup at night...usually a good portion has already melted away.
A couple little things to consider (but won't deter me from repurchasing this at all). The packaging doesn't allow it to stand up very well. Not a huge deal, but I like to stand my stuff up on my vanity and this topples over easily. And I did notice that the first day I applied this I had a dry, flaky patch on one of my cheeks, and this primer make it really stand out. So I would say this primer probably isn't for those with super dry, flaky skin. And just be careful to check after you've applied it (though the white cast of it makes it super easy to spot) to make sure it's not clinging to any dry patches.
But overall, I am so impressed by this. If I could do an infomercial for it, I totally would. : )

Normally use SuperMatte Antishine but have tried all sorts of things to control the oil in my T-zone, particularly my nose. I have used this for several days and like it! Yes, there are grains or granules or something but they don't stay or show on your face. It does dry fast and is a great primer for my liquid blush. I top it with powder but was NOT impressed with the Neutragena shine control powder (or any other rice powder I've tried for that matter). So far this is at least as good as the SuperMatte Antishine but way more affordable. Time will tell though....

I must admit, had I read the reviews of this product first I never would have bought it. I've not had good experiences with Neutrogena in the past, but I'll try anything to try to control my oily skin. I really, really like this product. It did not feel grainy to me so maybe I just got lucky and get a good tube? I liked that as soon as you put it on it dried right away and I could apply foundation quickly. It felt like nothing on. Not heavy, not powdery, not anything. And it really worked. I always have to go to a mirror midday and do some serious blotting, but with this there really was nothing to blot. (I blotted anyway, just out of habit, but the napkin was pretty clean). I already hurried and bought 2 more tubes in a bogo sale, because Im afraid that if most people agree with the reviews here I wont be able to get it anymore. All I can say is, if you're really oily and you try anything for relief, its worth the price to see if this works well for you too.

Never written a review on here before.....unfortunately, this is THAT bad. I have an oily t-zone with large pores on nose and cheeks and über-sensitive skin....so I was soooo excited when I saw this! Wow. Just wow. First off, it is like milk coming out of the tube (squirt carefully!) but then pretty much freezes wherever you touch it to your skin. You gotta rub FAST. Second, it does not control oil or reduce my pore size in the least. Guess I'm back to the drawing board on the search for my HG primer.....oh, and literally everything else I touch to my face is Neutrogena--so I already love them passionately......I just don't understand this product.

This is only a very initial review as I've only used this 2x now, but I have to say I'm really enjoying it! Purchased on a whim at my local WalMart while grocery shopping (I'm a SLAVE to all things "Oil Control/Shine Control") I noticed there was only 1 left in stock,I picked it up w/out reading any reviews or doing any MUB searches 1st, and most times when purchasing something w/out doing a lil background checking on MUA, I end up being unhappy with it.. I'm def.pleasantly surprised with this :) For reference I'm 30yrs old with fair/warm, oily skin that is somewhat acne prone & very clog prone. Before trying this I was alternating back & fourth with my Rimmel Fix&Perfect Pro Primer, Laura Geller Orig.Spackle or Monistat Anti Chaffing Gel-Pwdr, but at one point in time or another, I think I've tried every drugstore primer that exists, and quite a few high end ones as well.
I do like that this is a nice squeeze tube container, not very pretty or flashy (black w/white writing) but who cares? -The feel of it when it comes out of the tube IS a bit weird - like, little balls in it, (which I think are what keeps you matte looking) I noticed as soon as I rubbed those little balls into my face I was practically poreless :) I already wear a quite long-wearing fndtn (Revlon ColorStay and/or ColorStay Whipped) so I don't usually wear a primer to make my fndtn last longer b/c it's not an issue for me, so not sure how this would hold up under any fndtn other than CS, but I'm looking for that poreless, matte look (having oily skin also gives me quite large looking pores) &this did JUST that :) &It didn't just keep me matte& poreless looking for an hour or two, it kept me that way for 10hrs today!
Since I've only used it twice though, it's too soon to tell if it causes any kind of breakouts/clogs on me, but I'm hoping not b/c I really do like this! Hopefully I will remember to update in several weeks, but initial review is 5 lippies!
*update 8/26/12* I was pleased with this primer in my initial review, & I feel is is decent for oily skin, not HG material, but not as terrible as other primers out there. It did not cause any breakouts for me (thankfully ;D) However since purchasing this I've been introduced to a DIY primer of Pure Aloe Gel + 100% Silica Powder & nothing compares to aloe+silica primer for oily skin IMO :) So I am dropping my initial review of 5 lippies down to 4 b/c if you're not someone that wants to mix ingredients to make a primer & would rather purchase something at the drugstore, this is still nice. I just have to drop it down b/c of finding my HG since the initial review :)

This is like sand paper. It has small grains like an exfoliant and when your fad is dry and you start rubbing this in it is so irritating. I can't believe they put granules in the primer. It's the same with the foundation. Horrible!!!!!!!!! I am so angry I bought this at target and can't return used products to them. To top this off, it isnt a very matte finish as promised and it is useless as a primer. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!
