This was maddening. It was like having dried old, half-on-half-off, stuck-together in different places, slept-on, lopsided, dull, cruddy lashes literally GLUED to me for four days. It's not a stain or a tint like the bottle says. It doesn't just add a black tint. The first day it looks okay, then after you shower the next day it all begins looking scraggly.
After days of me soaking cotton rounds in oil and repeatedly allowing my eyes to sit with the cotton round and soak, it was finally off.
Despite me being gentle in the process, I lost a lot of eyelashes after trying to get it off so many times, and because of how drying it was and how stuck together my lashes were for so long.
Even though it was bought dirt cheap at walmart, it was the biggest piece of crap I have ever wasted my money on. My cousin bought it too and it looked horrible on her as well plus she couldn't get it off either. It looked even worse on her because she is a fair blonde and you could really see it.
Never again.. In fact I bought the other mascara formulas from hard candy that night too.. the colored ones in different tubes and formulas. They weren't as bad as this one, but not that great either. The colors were cute and washed off unlike this one, but they didn't hold a curl and flaked and melted. Don't bother with this.. You get what you pay for and these are cheap crap. I miss the old hard candy that I used to buy at Nordstrom when I was 16!

I am so so on this product. even though it did not last for 4 days like advertised...it did stay for more than a day with any other product. my only complaint is...it did not keep the curl. I had to keep re curling my lashes though it was nice that I did not have to reapply for about 2 1/2 days even after rubbing of my eyes and washing with make up remover.

This is a good mascara for going out/being active, but I recommend using it on top of a regular mascara instead of by itself. When I've used it alone it's basically glued itself to my lashes even with makeup remover. When I use another mascara under it, it tends to come off a bit easier. Sort of defeats the purpose though. I will say this: It's definitely long lasting.

Okay i made the mistake many of us did which is using it thinking its a regular mascara....never again! My lashes clumped up big time and they had no curl (which is rare since i have naturally curly lashes) Now that im more aware of its usage i do think is great for going to the beach or the pool but not for everyday usage.

Hard Candy is extremely hit or miss with me. I tend to love their blushes/lipglosses and hate almost everything else. Argh. This mascara is terrible. It doesn't do what it says it does (stain your lashes for 4 days). I rubbed my eyes once after applying and letting it dry and it flaked EVERYWHERE. The color was gone after a few minutes. I'd rather apply a good mascara everyday, thank you.

Not a fan. Wouldn't buy again. Very watery and doesn't dry fast. You pretty much have to stand there and not blink for a minute so it doesn't get on your skin.

It's best not to think of this as a mascara at all. Your lashes are basically going to be exactly as they are, only darker, and when you put it on you better put it on right, because it's going to be there for a while. Just accept that it is there and don't try to remove it, it's too hard on your lashes. I didn't have any problem getting the product on without clumping, but my lashes are rather sparse to begin with so maybe that helped. It is definitely thinner than a mascara formula, although thicker than the eyelash dye I have purchased previously. It stays a lot longer than the eyelash dyes I have tried. I did notice that my eyelashes got kind of kinked up after sleeping on it, but a shower and a minute under a gently-warmed (with a hair dryer) eyelash curler straightened them back out. I have moderately oily skin and the ink stayed in place very well for me, although waterproof eyeliners tend to come right off as soon as my lids get oily by midday. If you want deluxe eyelashes, this isn't the place to go. If you want a rather natural look, just with some darker lashes to highlight your eyes a bit in a natural way, this is great. I took it to the beach and it was perfect. I wore it to my daughter's graduation and it was perfect for all the crying I did, too. In the evening when I wanted fluffier looking lashes for a formal dinner event, I didn't try to re-coat them with anything, I just slapped on a pair of falsies and it was good to go. Then my lashes were right back to dark-but-natural for a hike the next day, no problem. Since I have a lot of occasions where I don't want to look "made up" but I have totally blonde eyelashes and need just a little highlight there for my eyes, this is very handy for me. Not as a replacement for mascara, but as a low-maintenance alternative when mascara would probably not last.
Oh, how I applied it: started with clean, dry lashes. I gave them a light curl with a warmed curler. I dipped a Q-tip into some of the ink and used that to rub the base of the lashes on top and bottom, which helped to separate my lashes a bit and make them stand up straight. Then I used the mascara wand's tip to brush on the ink from base to tip of each lash individually. I had my eyelash comb right there to quickly brush through them whenever needed, and yes, it was a cheap plastic one, and that worked just fine for me. I used the Q-tip again to touch up any areas or individual lashes that were missed. All in all, it took maybe three minutes and it lasted 3-4 days for me.

Update: this doesn't stay on for 4 days, barely stays on for 2. It's going back to the store.
I definitely understand how this can be a disappointment if you do not use it correctly. When I bought this I immediately took it out of the tube casing and applied it to my lashes which already had mascara on them.... what a clumpy mess! I didn't read the reviews for this but instead picked it up on a whim. After I had made a mess of this I looked on here to see what others had said, one reviewer gave some helpful advice that made me want to take this off and try again. I tried later on that night and it looks much more natural and does tint them nicely. It also gives my already long lashes more length, but no volume so don't expect that. This is not something I would wear on a daily basis but rather something I would apply before going camping/on a road trip/to the beach as it gives a nice defined look and stays on well. This takes patience, iy is not a mascara, but if you take your time and apply this correctly its quite handy to have in your stash.

This did nothing for my top lashes and actually clumped them together like spider legs. I'd have tossed it, but then I realized that its really great for your lower lashes, where you don't need as much volume or length. With allergies making my eyes watery, especially in the spring..this holds up really well! I will still use my favorite waterproof mascara on my top lashes, but this has become my go-to mascara for my lower lashes. Just be sure to wipe off most of the mascara so there is very little left on the wand, otherwise it will smear under your eye. I have no trouble removing them with vaseline and a microfiber cloth so if you do need it to come off..it will. I am on the fence about repurchasing, luckily its cheap and wal mart takes returns, so if you try it and hate it, you aren't out anything.

Lets just say I'll be returning this product, which I rarely do ever!
It seemed really cool when i was reading the product description of it lasting 4 days but when I got home I realized I don't need my mascara to stay on that long. I like washing my mascara off at the end of the night!! Also its not that great, I don't know. I'll be testing it out again in four days, and if it isn't amazing, its going back to the store and im getting GLOW ALL THE WAY instead in doll face which was out at my local walmart at the time =[

I honestly don't understand why there are so many '1 star' reviews. I quite like this Lash Ink even though it doesn't add length or volume. It went on nice on clean lashes, dried fast, and didn't seem to clump. There really isn't much bad about it except that it might be a little too dark for some people and might be "heavy".
I didn't like that there were no directions, but it wasn't to hard to figure out.
I don't think you need to go through a bunch of steps, just apply one coat to all lashes just like you would mascara. And if it clums, use a safety pin (safely, thank you Julia Roberts for the idea) or lash comb to separate.

I read reviews on this Lash Ink and decided to ignore the negative and try it anyways. Bad idea. This product made my eyelashes stick together. Mine are not super long, but they have a lot of volume. This product made each of my eyes look like they had three lashes. After scrubbing off, it was even more difficult to get off my skin. Yes it may last a long time, but I would not want to go four days with the look it was giving.

I bought this product after reading about it in a magazine. I am a make-up artist and always trying out new finds.
Do not buy this product thinking that it is a mascara, that is misleading. And don't buy this product thinking that you are just going to get a light tint or dye to your lashes. If you want to just darken your lashes, go to a salon and have them dyed. This product is not for you.
So if you want to try this product, I will tell you my tried and true techniques for getting results. And BTW, Hard Candy, I do not like that there are absolutely no intructions or information on your packaging for this product, that is just uncalled for!
Start with clean lashes, at night and undisturbed. Have several q-tips ready dipped in baby oil, an eyebrow brush, a very thin metal eyelashcomb/seperator. It has to be metal, DO NOT TRY AND USE A PLASTIC COMB. Metal combs can be found at Sally's. Get comfortable, you will be working on one section at a time, and working fast, this stuff dries super fast and once it dries, lashes can not be coated again or combed or seperated. Start by taking the brush wand and work entire section from root to tip, immediately take your metal comb and seperate through, then immediately repeat same section with wand and then super fast seperate with metal comb. 2 coats is about all you can get to before product dries. DO NOT TRY AND COAT ON MORE OVER DRIED LASHES and do not try and comb through dried lashes! Then move on to next section of lashes repeating the exact same steps. You have 4 sections. If any gets on your skin while working quickly remove it with the dipped q-tips. Once you are completely done and the lashes have dried, if you see any missed spots, very precisely you can barely dot some product with the very tip of the brush wand on that spot. And if you have any clumping, because this stuff is thick, do not try and comb through, the only way you will be able to unclump is using a straight pin. Which is a no-no, so be very very careful, it's the only way to seperate once the lashes have dried without pulling them out! Once you are satisfied with the look, you can fluff and straighten them with the eyebrow brush.
This stuff will not come off, not with cleanser and water, not with makeup remover, not with oils. Every morning when you wake up you will have flakes and you will need to "fix" them by using your eyebrow brush and only your eyebrow brush. Do not try and put any product on top of them and do not try and seperate them using an eyelash comb.
This product does last, so it would be great for a beach vacation, camping trip or anything along those lines. It is not for everyday use. Once it wears off, make sure you condition your lashes because the product is very drying.
I would reccomend it, but not as a stain or mascara. And only to those who are willing to take the time and effort into applying correcting and maintaining correctly. Otherwise, your lashes can be pulled out or broken. It is very similar to the "dipped lashes" service being offered in select salons and spas now.

I think this product has it's advantages, if you use a few tricks to apply it!
The formula itself is good, but it's more like a paint, not a stain. It dries very quick and it really does stay on for days!
First, the applicator brush is horrid, don't use it! I took the applicator wand out of my ULTA Lash Icon, wiped off the product with a paper towel and used that to apply the Lash Ink. It went on smooth with no clumping, but like I said, it dries fast! So be very careful, take your time applying it and have qtips handy in case you have an oopsie!
Second, don't try to rub it off. If you have too many coats on, it will clump your lashes together. I used baby oil and it took it off after wiping my eyes 2 times.
It's not the best mascara, but if you tend to rub your eyes a lot during the day, this is great. I'm a groomer and I'm always rubbing dog and cat hair out of my eyes. This stuff doesnt budge!

This stuff is the worst! i dont know how they made this, but im thinking it was with tar and gorillia glue. it doesnt come off your eyes, it just smudges all around them. honestly i would never buy this again. i have, however, found that the tarte 4 day lash stain really does work! it is light and doesnt come off. although it doesnt add any volume or much length. it just darkens lashes for a more natural look. so instead of wasting your money on the hard candy brand, pay 10 more for the tarte one. it does what it is supposed to. i would never recomend the hard candy one to any of my friends.

Worst...mascara...EVER!!! I was honestly sold on the idea of a lash stain when I first laid eyes it. Yet when I put it on, it was the clumpiest stuff I've ever put on my lids. I think one of the problems is the brush...it's so useless in it's design when it comes to the formula. As for the formula...yes it does last a while after a couple of washes and contact with running water, yet it is soooooo heavy. When I think "stain" I think something light not something that weighs down my lids and forms fist-sized clumps! Another miss for HC and another waste of cash from me...

I'm a night owl, prone to allergies, and I wear contacts. Any eye makeup I purchase must survive herculean efforts to be considered impressive.
This stuff sucks, hard. It made my lashes look like I'd used black gorilla glue on them, and on top of that, it doesn't even LAST like I'd anticipated. The box it comes in has no instructions, which I found odd for a product that isnt your everyday mascara. So I tried it twice--once with a bare face, around the house, and again with full eye makeup going out. It failed both times, somehow managing to stubbornly cling to my lashes, but simultaneously winding up underneath my eyes and on my eyelids. How dreadful.
I wanted lash ink to be an alternative to mascara--my natural lashes are longer now thanks to careprost, and a 4 day tint to them would be amazing. What I purchased was total garbage. The only nice thing I have to say is that the brush is ok I guess, and the tube is quite large. But who wants a large tube of garbage?
Not me. Sooo not repurchasing.

Had this product been marketed as something else, I might not have been so awfully disappointed in this mascara. Maybe they should call it "Lash Tar" instead of "Lash Ink." For a product that's marketed as a lash stain, I expected a light formula that would just add color to my blonde lashes. What a mistake!
Instead of a lash stain, this product is more like a waterproof mascara that you can't take off at all. I applied the mascara to my lashes and it was thick and goopy, an utter mess. My lashes clumped together and looked awful. After I combed through the quick-drying formula, my lashes looked better. There was no flaking, no changes in my lashes at all during the day. All that changed when I went to shower, which the packaging says you can do in the mascara. When I washed my face, my lashes stuck together so forcefully I could barely comb through them. I tried to remove this stuff with eye makeup remove formulated for waterproof mascara, and it barely removed anything. My lashes BROKE and FELL OUT. I had to wait a few days for the product to wear off.
I returned the product and got a refund. My lashes are all out of whack after this, and all this happened two weeks ago. This product was awful. DON'T make the same mistake I did.
