I love, love, love these! The price is so cheap and the color and lasting power is solid. If I layer lipstick and/or gloss over this, I'm set with bright red lips for the rest of the day. Yes, these do tend to dry out, but I have an unproven trick to keep these from drying out: I store it right side up until it starts to dry out (about 3 months), after which I store them upside down so they'll last another 2-3 months.

Love this product! It is well pigmented and has a thin tip for precise application. Definitely will repurchase in more every-day colors!

Let me just say: WOW. Seriously, guys this is one of the best lipstains out there better than the high end brands as well. Lasts longer than all other lipstains (stila, revlon, benetint, staniac, covergirl, smashbox) out there even my special food dye I make!
I'm not sure if it's just me because it's one of the first marker type stains I've started using. I usually use the liquid gel like but I feel the marker is easier to use.
I bought all the colors except for two one being red and the other being fushia (hot pink) but many which are unwearable to me because they are SO very bright or dark and I prefer the natural colors. Anyways, my three favorite are never ending nude (please, god don't let this be discontinued and let it forever remain in my life: ameen) 2. Champagne which is a medium pink (looks perfect with my brown skin tone, love it! 3. endless spice which is a sheer red. You can layer these to make it look darker/brighter. But you can layer on the never ending nude and it looks perfect. It's the perfect nude. Mostly rose color looking (earthy pink) with hints of brown in it. This stain lasts through a meal YES. YAY! I never found one that does so I'm so happy to discover this. I find that the Nude color lasts longer on me but I believe it's because I layer that one on while I only put one or two layers of the other stains. It lasts 3 hours. Probably 4. Just put a lipbalm on and your good to go after the stain. This stain- doesn't even dry out your lips as much as the others! But I just love lipbalm so I put that on too to make it look like the perfect lips. GO buy the NEVER ENDING NUDE! Oh yes, and the price = AWESOME. I love that it's so cheap because that was the only reason as to why I was able to buy all the colors!!!

Very surprised with the NYC lip stain. I own a couple different drug store lip stains (Palladio, Revlon). Overall, I would say this is my favorite. I, unlike most, actually prefer the felt tip stains as compared to the balm-like stains like Revlon's new one. The pigment with this stain is amazing, it has good staying power (pretty sure 16 hours isn't right, but it last quite some time), and it's cheap. I paid about $4.50 for it at Target. I'm very happy with this product. I bought Forever Fuchsia and I plan on buying more colors soon.

After reading the rave reviews on MUA, I finally bought NYC's Smooch Proof lipstain in Champagne Stain. Boy, am I in love (so far!) It is WAY better than my old Revlon Just Bitten (which got really gross and smelly, and wouldn't even stay on as long). For the record, I have also owned a CoverGirl lipstain, and it was pretty good. But NYC, for the low price of $4.99 CDN + tax, does the job best of them all! The staying power is awesome -- I went through three hours of intense Quidditch training at university, and my lips were still a bright healthy pink after! Amazing!
Out of all three lipstains I've owned so far, this one was the least drying and stayed on the longest. And it's also very pigmented -- Champagne Stain goes on as a bright dark pink that can look dramatic, but much more natural than lipstick. Packaging is no-fuss and the tip is pointier than either Revlon or CoverGirl, which I like. Can't beat the quality for such a low price! Will definitely purchase again!

These lipstains are amazing. They beat the heck out of the Revlon ones, in my honest opinion. The tip is thinner and more pointed for better lining, and the color lasts all day. I went to McDee's with my boyfriend, had nuggets, some fries and a drink (mind you greasy food) and the lipstain was completely in tact afterwards. I purchased in Persistent Pink (very natural and neutral pink), Forever Freesia (purple toned pink), Never Ending Nude (a slightly pinkish nude), Champagne Stain (a bold red toned pink), and Berry Long Time (a deep purple berry). I was happy with all colors. They are also very moisturizing. Highly recommend.

This is. Amazing. This is now my favourite drugstore lipstain.
I now own a multitude of drugstore lipstains (from Revlon, Maybelline, Cover Girl, and NYC) and I have to say: this is, by far, the BEST.
First off, all the drugstore lipstains seem to be similar in quality (though Revlon's still strikes me as particularly bad), and all generally apply a little unevenly, have a tendency to settle into the dry patches on your lips, and fade very strangely. What sets NYC's apart is the price! It's about $4.99 Canadian at Walmart (it came to $5.65), which is substantially less (about half) than what you'd pay for the other brands, and does the same job.
Zero transferring, vibrant colour (I have this in shade 494 "Smooch-proof" apparently, though I think it was fuchsia something or other at the store), fruity scent (not incredibly pleasant at first sniff though), more moist than the other lipstains, mostly matte finish (though I do still prefer the finish of Maybelline's), and the price!!!! The price cannot be beat.
Can't really go wrong if you need something that won't transfer and might actually stay put for awhile ('bout 6 hours I'd say).

New York Color (NYC)'s Smooch Proof 16 Hour Lip Stain promises to stay put for up to 16 hours. A hard claim to believe from such a hit and miss brand. This line of lip stains is available in 10 shades, I have the shade Champagne Stain. NYC products are not tested on animals. This product was made in Germany, and is gluten free. I purchased this stain at Rite Aid for $4.99 for .10fl oz of product. That's a little steep for NYC, but a good value, generally speaking.
NYC, being a budget brand, isn't known for having excellent packaging. Their products usually come in very plain, kinda cheap packaging. Smooch Proof, on the other hand, actually looks kinda cute. Packaging is a plastic, marker style tube with a cap that snaps on firmly, protecting the product from drying out. The cap takes effort to remove, so don't worry too much about tossing this stain in your purse or makeup bag. The plastic tube is color coordinated with the color of the stain, and features the name of the product written in silver lettering.
Removing the cap reveals a felt tip marker, that comes to a fine point. The applicator is quite precise, and can be used to create thin lines, for lining the lips, or for making thicker strokes, that fill in the lips. The tip is not as moist and saturated with product as the Palladio lip stain, but more moist than the Covergirl Outlast Lip Stain. Smooch Proof lip stain applies pretty well. It goes on evenly and the tip doesn't dry while you apply it.
The color of Champagne Stain is pretty variable. It applies very, very sheerly, so the resulting color depends on your natural lip color. I have pretty pigmented lips, so on me, Champagne Stain turns into a medium berry-red. It looks similar to my natural lip color, just amplified. I like it. It suits me quite well.
So is this lip stain really really smooch proof? Yes. It sets on the lips almost immediately, making it almost completely transfer proof. My lovely assistant, Dean, hasn't bee around for me to test the actual "smooch proof" claim, but it seems true to me.
So does this lip stain really last 16 hours? Heck no. Heck no at all. For me, Champagne Stain wears 3 to 5 hours, which isn't bad at all, but no where near the 16 hour claim. To be fair, NYC only said their Smooch Proof stains could last up to 16 hours. But in my book, if you put a time frame in a product's name, it's a promise. They broke their promise :(. Like many lip stains, this one fades off unevenly, and a little bit patchy. Reapplication evens it back out though.
Like many lip stains, NYC Smooch Proof lip stains feel pretty dry on the lips. It's not so uncomfortable that you can't wear this lip stain alone, but it feels much better with a lip gloss on top. It also looks better, because it makes your lips look smoother. Wearing a gloss over the stain does compromise the wear slightly, shaving off an hour or so of the wear time.
NYC's Smooch Proof lip stains don't have a taste to them, but they do have a the same artificial fruity scent all lip stains seem to have. It's not a strong scent though, so it likely won't both you, unless you're incredibly sensitive to scents.
So how do I feel about NYC's Smooch Proof 16 Hour Lip Stains? They're pretty good! Champagne Stain is a pretty color that suits me really well. The packaging is kinda cute and pretty functional. Out of the three lip stains I've put to the test, this one applies the best. This isn't a perfect lip stain, it's dry on the lips, and is only ok in the wear department, but this lip stain is good for the price. I recommend it if you're curious about trying a lip stain but don't want to invest a bunch into it, or if you want to try several shades. I might give another shade a try some time.

Would I buy this product again? Umm..YES! honestly this is the absolute BEST drugstore lip stain i have ever tried. its vibrant, its not sticky, it doesnt dry out your lips as much as other stains, and it doesnt come of unless you want it to, and when it finally does start fading (at least 5 hours after you put it on) it fades naturally and doesnt look super blotchy like other lipstains do. it doesnt settle into all the dry spots. and it goes on so easy. its super easy to get the pen-like applicator filled up and it stays pointy so you can get a defined lip. i am using this in the color "champagne" and its a beautiful medium-pink color. Go buy this stuff...NOW. its only like 5 dollars at walmart...thats almost half of what you'd pay for the CG outlast or the just bitten stain. and it works a million times better.

I got this in Forever Fuschia, which is a hot pink. I was surprised how intense the color is and how much "juice" it in the marker. The felt tip goes to a fine point which you can easily line your lips with, and the stain doesn't bleed at all. It absorbs quickly through the skin, going exactly where you want it to. I'm usually very sceptical of marker or pen applicators because I'm afraid of how fast it dries out, but this actually lasts months without drying out and the felt tip doesn't break or get ruined easily. Like all lip stains, this is a drying product, but applying lip balm over it gets rid of the problem. This lip stain doesn't even smell like very much, unlike I'd expect. I loved this product but I'm not a huge fans of lip stains in general because although they last a while (the 16 hour claim is exaggerated, obviously, but this does last all day with only a bit of fading) you can't completely take them off and instead have to let them fade. Lip stains are also matte without applying a gloss on top, just something to think about.
This is a great lip stain for dramatic lips, but at least for me not everyday use, and the cheapest stain I've ever seen at $5.

i have the berry one and red one and i love them both-the red one is my new favorite lip product. these don't taste bad, they last for awhile, and if you put chapstick or gloss on over it they're not drying. plus, the marker has not dried out in like a year. very impressive, especially for the price-i hope they keep these around.

UPDATE - I'm changing my rating on this product from 4 stars to 2 stars. Although I love the product, I've realized there isn't very much in the tube. This didn't last nearly as long as the Cover Girl Outlast I've used for the past few years. Bummer!
Love the color and texture. Product does stay put for several hours, especially if you let it dry before putting lip balm on top. Taste isn't unpleasant like some lip stains.

I have this in Berry Long time.. Picked it up at Target for $4, and I love it. It's like a marker for your lips. Can be drying, but fixed by a lip balm. Pretty deep berry color, but I like it. Will repurchase.

It took a little practice to figure out the best application for the NYC stains. I thought for the price it was worth a try. I'm glad I got this because it gives the prettiest rosy color that lasts forever. To apply it a first put on some lip balm and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I slightly blot off some of the balm and dab the stain on using a q-tip (the kind that you get in the beauty section that aren't so fluffy) to blend it out. In a pinch I use my finger, but it does stain. I keep adding more and blending until I get the right depth of color. Add a little gloss and this is great!

i LOVE this color in "rock on ruby." it is a perfect cherry red stain without being too bright or offensive. i can wear one coat for daytime with a lip balm underneath and a gloss over, or two coats for night time. the only con is it dries up quickly, but the product is only 3.99 or something so for me its not a big deal having to repurchase.

I had to call or go to over 6 stores to find this in Persistent Pink, they were all sold out. Finally I found it at another Walmart (my closest walmart had sold out of it also). When I put it on it seemed pretty bright, even with only 1 coat. Its also darker than I expected, especially since its the lightest color. I got this to layer with my palladio tinted chapstick. It looks much better in the morning if you have put it on before bed.
UPDATE
After a day it seemed dried out even though I store it upside down, the next morning there was some product in the tip but not much, its kinda like, ok you put a little on annnnd your done theres no more left til later. There should be some kind of way to force product to the tip, shaking it and banging it on the counter does not work.

I have to be honest, I didn't like this product very much. It was alright when I didn't have any other lip stains on hand, but the staying power wasn't very impressive. Plus, it seemed to transfer. I don't remember the name of the color, but I got the brightest red I could find. I actually prefer the Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain because it doesn't transfer, doesn't dry out as quickly for me, lasts longer, and includes a lip balm at the other end. It is a little pricier, but I feel it's worth it.

I bought Persistent Pink. I have never tried these lip stains and they are on sale at my local pharmacy for an astounding $1.29cdn! Extremely inexpensive. They normally sell for about $5.99cdn, so this is a really great sale. And, I am on the tightest budget ever (also, I am supposed to be on a lip product no-buy), so this fits the bill for me. I love light and soft pink lip shades, so I decided that I had nothing to lose by trying this product. This wears nicely. Not sure how long it will last yet, but I was able to apply it nice and even. I put my lip balm over it and it looks great! I rub my lips together and it stays put! I can apply the stain and just go about the rest of my day with just a lip balm or a nice shimmery lip gloss. At this price, I am going to go back and get a back-up for this shade and pick-up a few of the others that caught my eye. I can buy a some nice shades and still pay less than $10!! Talk about being economically savvy!

I have used both this lip stain and Revlon Just Bitten lip stain. I like NYC because the color is vibrant and applies more evenly than Revlon. (I purchased the fuschia color in NYC - not sure of the name - but it is a fun pop of color).
I like the fact that NYC smells good (Revlon has no smell), and the actual tube of lip stain does not dry out as quicky as Revlon.
But, I think I will stick with Revlon since I like their Gothic red color. But, I really recommend NYC - the stain lasts forever (the pink anyway). I have had to scrub my lips at night to get it off (nivea and a good scrub usually gets most of it off).

I purchased this for quite cheap in Work It Plum. While the colour itself is subtle and natural looking.. this does not last at all! In the above swatch photo I compared it will Revlons Just Bitten stain. After around 15 minutes I wiped gently with a damp cloth to test which would prevail. The NYC one disappeared 95% percent, while Revlon's disappeared 30%.
One positive this about these, are that the felt tip is much more fine compared to other stain such as the Cover Girl and Revlon ones. Though these are cheap, they do not last that long on my lips nor hand in a test. I would not recommend or repurchase.
