so far, i love this mascara. it's easy to apply and it doesn't clump my lashes no matter how many coats of mascara i put on. it doesn't smudge or flake so far so that's a plus considering how oily my eyelids can get. the only problem is, i hate the tube. it's like they cheaped out or didn't pay attention to it. i personally like to close my mascara tubes super tight to prevent air from getting in. when i do that, the top part doesn't match up with the tube, i don't know how to explain it properly. maybe another person will know what i mean if they try this.

Far from perfect. I bought this believing it was a tubing mascara. It does not perform or feel like tubing mascaras I have used. I don't think this is a tubing mascara, but I'm not sure. Product smudged and flaked off after 5 hours, thereby irritating my eyes. Unlike other tubing mascaras, this one is easy to wash off--almost too easy. I do like Shiseido's thin texture. It also gave my lashes a very glossy, black look. However, unless they change the formula, I will most definitely not repurchase. Prior to this, Shiseido's mascara offerings were nice, but too difficult to remove. This one is gentle and easy to remove, but smeared like crazy. YMMV.

The gall to put the word "perfect" on this product. I'd expect this kind of clumping from some random drugstore brand, but not from Shiseido! My lashes clumped together like nothing else, and it dried so fast that combing through with the wand only created more clumps, rather than separating. The one good thing I can say about this mascara is that at least my lashes kept their curl after using my eyelash curler, but they were so spidery that it didn't matter. My almost-full tube just went into the trash.

I had to give this mascara a couple of tries.
There's no doubt about the effect. It makes the lashes look gorgeous. Long and full, just like it's supposed to be. And it also adds that dramatic effect. I love the brush too.
For the first couple of times I used it, I just had major problems with flaking. I don't know why, but this mascara flaked like no other I had tried before.
Now that I've used it a bit more often the problem is gone. Maybe I applied it the wrong way before, not sure what was going on.
Why I don't wanna give 5 Lippies is, cause it is really not the best mascara I have ever tried. It makes the lashes look somewhat fake and just not as soft as other mascaras do.
It's a good, solid product and probably better than most mascaras, I just won't buy it again, cause there are several other mascaras who do a better job for much less money.

I bought this mascara about a month ago and have been very pleased.
My tube does close tight and I have had no flaking. Does not seem to be forming a tube around my lashes and none of the advertising, that I found says it does.
What I really like about this mascara is the consistancy and when I apply it there is so much less caking and I do not end up with spider eyes. Guess you could get the spider eyes with application after application.
I wear shu uemora eye paint gel in brown, which is plenty dark, and most mascara's make me look over made up but this one did not.
Since I have tried so many mascara's, I have not reviewed everyone I have tried but most of them just made my eyes look just way over the top.
Sometimes I use it with the base and sometimes I don't. Really have not noticed much difference with or without.
I wear mineral makeup and blush, eyeliner and lipstick. I felt like using this mascara actually made me look younger. My eyes are still showing up but now, when I look in the mirror, my mascara is not the first thing I notice when looking at my eyes.
I will repurchase.
By the way, in looking at some of the reviews I wonder if the formulation was changed.

This has great formula that doesn't seem to clump or smudge on me.
It definitely is quite expensive though, which is a bummer. I holds my lashes in place after curling it with a eyelash curler for the whole day. It comes off quite easily and isn't waterproof. I find it less damaging on my lashes too.

This is a fabulous mascara. On its own, it looks amazing, managing to provide length and separation without looking heavy or clumpy. However, like most mascaras, on me, on its own I will eventually find some of it having flaked off. But worn with Shiseido's The Makeup Mascara Base, this mascara will stay all day.

My only gripe is the packaging. My tube doesn't want to close very tightly, so I don't know whether it will dry out earlier than it should. Since it's my first tube, I also don't know whether this is a fluke or whether they're all like this.

Wearing this mascara with the base makes it much more difficult to remove, but as long as you use a remover meant for waterproof makeup, it comes off fairly easily.

Perhaps not perfect, but darn close. Wish it were cheaper.

I really like this mascara! I've had a relationship with Kanebo tubing mascaras for years, and especially like the volumizing one with the curved wand. But they are hard to remove, so I won't use them every day because the warm water dries out my skin. Then come Shiseido with the Perfect Mascara. With that name, I simply had to try it, and it does the trick. It lengthens, adds a bit of thickness without beint OTT, and the colour is a glossy black. It doesn't clump or smudge, and is easy to remove with warm water. The wand is pretty standard, but does the trick. For those of you who want porn star drama: This is NOT the mascara for you, neither does it claim to be. I will definitely repurchase.*edit* I take back what I said. After a few weeks of use, this mascara has shown its true self, and now, I'm not as satisfied. I find that it dries too fast, so that you can't apply more than one coat. As a result, it flakes quite easily. I'll stick with Kanebo.

Shiseido mascaras have always worked well for me and this one is probably the best one i have tried so far. It lengthens, thickens and most importantly for me.... does not smudge! The texture is slightly wetter but it gives a glossy black finish which can be nice. It weighs down my curled lashes a little but not too much. Its easy to wash off too - no need for aggressive rubbing to get it off.
Be careful on a really hot day... this mascara turns into gloop. It was all glooped onto the brush bristles and oozing out of the tube when i pulled the brush out. I checked my other mascaras but they weren't as bad... i think it might be because of its wetter texture. But overall, another great mascara by Shiseido!

I got this product for free(yes!!) as part of a Canadian magazine beauty contest. I was really happy but didn't know what to expect since I was very content with my Cover Girl LashBlast.

The fist time I put it on my eyes got really itchy and started to burn and I blamed it on this mascara. But as I was going out with friends I decided to give it another try since I had it and I just really wanted it to work for me. Wow!! This time I curled my lashes(which I didn't do the first time) and they STAYED curled. I usually only wear waterproof mascara but this one does not smudge at all!

I'm always walking to my classes(to save money instead of buying a bus/metro pass) and to the grocery store so I'm pretty much outside for at least 40 minutes per day and get caught in all kinds of weather(Canada= four seasons...).
And even in heavy rain, no black smears. Really impressed!

Got this as a xmas gift and I LOVE IT. It's very black, defines each and every lash.. I can use it comfortably for both top and bottom lashes. It gives a wet winged out effect... hands down best mascara I've ever used. And even though it isn't waterproof, it holds up extremely well for hours and hours with minimum smudging...HG material. Great packaging as its comfortable to hold and looks nice. This is my department store choice... Drug store choice, I'd go with Loreal Voluminous.

I was eager to try this one cuz its gotten great reviews, and I like the brand. This is a good mascara, works well, defines, lengthens, thickens, no clumps. I find it so-so on holding a curl. I wouldnt call it "perfect" but its very good.

This truly is the perfect mascara. No clumping, adds length and volume, coats every last lash--even the bottom ones-- which can be a bit of a hard time with other mascaras. Would definitely repurchase.

this stuff is really good. it's thin so it doesn't clump and look crazy. it stays on all day. it curls okay. i don't know it's just much better than other mascaras i've used. doesn't weigh the lashes down. pretty good product. doesn't give you smeary raccoon eyes.

This is an absolutely beautiful mascara :D granted, I've only used drugstore brands before this (revlon, rimmel, several different maybellines), but from seeing other friends mascaras, like MAC and Dior, I think this is one of the best available. It doesn't flake during the day, it doesn't smudge, if you wipe excess off the brush there's no clumping and it's easy to get off if you get any on your eyelid. It looks natural, but you can vamp it up for night but adding a little more and putting eyeliner underneath it. I don't use Shiseido's mascara base and it seems to work fine for me - for reference, I have short, curly black lashes. At around $30 AUD, which isn't much more than drugstore brands, I'd definitely buy this product again :]

This is the closest thing to perfect. This is Shiseido's version of a tubing mascara (doesn't say so, but you can tell from the smell--which isn't too bad, it goes away when it's dry--and it comes off in tubes/rubbery chunks when you remove with water). Granted, if I wear this alone and skip Shiseido's Mascara Base, it's not that great, but I have very difficult lashes (stick-straight and downward-pointing).

I love the stiffness to the brush--it can get to all the little lashes really well. Minimal clumping. Extremely black, excellent volume. With the Shiseido Mascara Base, it gives really good definition. No flaking, no smudging.

This isn't waterproof, but if your eyes water (mine do because I get allergies and I wear contacts), it will hold up. Just don't drench it with water because it's meant to be removed with water.

When you remove it, it's actually more difficult with makeup remover (I use Shiseido's Instant Eye and Lip Makeup Remover), so just remove the rest of your eye makeup, leaving whatever mascara that's still on alone. Then, when you wash your face and your lashes are wet, just pass your fingers under your lashes, sweeping upward, and that should take it off in the little tubes!

Also, the packaging is really elegant and pretty--it follows the shape of the Perfect Rouge lipstick tubes.

I have recently been on a mascara quest.

I have already reviewed the Bobbi Brown Lengthing one which I absolutely love.

Yesterday, I found the Shisheido Perfect, which is imo, perfect... or almost. I have yet to find THE mascara but these two are coming close. It applies densely, and covers all the little eyelashes. The black is really black and the staying power is excellent.

The price is below the YSL's and Chanel's -- and is not unfairly priced.

I will comment later on as I alternate between these two wonderful mascaras.

For now, I will say it is worth it and I will repurchase if I decide this is my long term mascara.
