The color of this one was a bit of a surprise.

"So Scarlet" really ... isn't.

It's more of a deep red wine than a scarlet.

If you're expecting a straight-up bright red, you may be a little disappointed with "So Scarlet."

That said, I should hasten to add that "So Scarlet" is a bee-yoo-tee-ful deep wine/berry, perfect for fall. It may be too deep for some, but I like a strong lip, even on my NW15 face. I'm thinking that it may work best on us brunettes, but YMMV.
"So Scarlet" is similar in color to the discontinued "Rocker," though the textures of the two are *completely* different. "So Scarlet" is an Amplified Creme, so it glides on smoothly, is well-pigmented and doesn't feel dry on the lips. It also features that signature MAC vanilla taste.

Wear is respectable, for this type of lipstick.

I tried "So Scarlet" today with "Beet" liner to bring out the pinky red tones. Straight out of the tube, it was a little much even for me. I tried blotting it, and adding a drop of Lustrewhite" gloss on top, and it was *perfect.* If you like deep berry wine lip colors, "So Scarlet" is definitely one to check out!

Since it's LE, I *may* get a backup.
UPDATE, AFTER A FEW WEARINGS: This is a pretty, pretty color, but I have to agree with those who find this to be too dark of a color to be well suited for the Amplified Creme formula. As long as I wear a liner with it, and go very easy on the gloss, it works okay, but it still feels kind of "wet," and doesn't wear very long.

As for "So Scarlet" vs. "Rapturous" Mattene, I find the colors to be *similar,* but not identical. If I had to choose one or the other, I'd probably go with "Rapturous" because I like its texture better, and I think it's actually just a liiitle redder than "So Scarlet." Both are BEAUTIFUL colors, and both well worth owning, IMO.

Did you buy Rapturous from the original Mattene release? If so, you don't need So Scarlet. It's almost the same color, and personally, I couldn't tell the difference at all. The mattene semi-matte formula is also much nicer. I was expecting so much from this lipstick. The color is beautiful, but again, it was released with the re-release of Rapturous. Pick Rapturous over So Scarlet unless you're particularly fond of amplified cremes.

I need another red lipstick like I need a hole in the head, but I got suckered into the Cult of Cherry, so I had to get it.

On my olive/NC35 skin this shows up as a rich red wine color--a bit of a blue undertone but nothing too overpowering. Looks beautiful on its own but I can see people wanting some lipliner under this to make it stay on longer. I love it on its own, though, since I like my lipsticks to stay creamy. So pretty!

My only problem with this product is that it is very creamy. Otherwise, it's the perfect Red that I've been searching for. It's a blue/red and not too dark at all. I am in LOVE with this color. I think the only red I liked better was Full Bodied from an old collection.

This lipstick is from MAC's brand new "Cult of Cherry Collection." This collection just debuted in stores today and the colors are rich, deep, lush, and pretty. Dark lips are the rage this upcoming Fall season. Dark nails have been huge the last few seasons and now lips are joining in. The new collection includes 4 lipsticks (although two are a repromote, i.e. Russian Red and O), 4 new mattenes, 4 new lipglasses, 3 eye quads, two blushes, and a mascara. I tried out two lipsticks, Lightly Ripe and So Scarlet and I just bought Lightly Ripe.
So Scarlet reminds me of MAC's lipstick in Dark Side. The color is blood red crimson with a slightly brown undertone. Imagine a paper cut, that is this color. This shade is also an Amplified so it is quite emollient. I once had MAC's Dubonnet and did not like it because the dark burgundy shade just creeped and slid all over my lips. I think the Amplifieds are just better suited to lighter and/or brighter shades like Girl About Town, Hollywood Nights, Chatterbox, or Impassioned. I really wanted to like this but I think the formula is too 'wet' for this dark of a color.
Overall, I think this color is a 5 but since it is too moist and buttery, I would rate this as a 3.5 lipstick. Again, I do like it but I think if it was a Satin, it would be fantastic.
