I'm torn over this product. It's so gorgeous but way overpriced. I find it a bit drying but nothing super super bad. And the color is GORGEOUS HG material because it's so versatile. However I think it might be a bit too dark for my fair coloring. I don't know if I will repurchse due to the fact that it is so expensive!

This is my go-to summer natural lip color. It also looks great with a black smokey eye. It's easy to apply, but does wear off fairly quickly. Consequently, I've gone through my pencil much faster that I would go through a normal lipstick. Even so, I will buy this again just for the color and texture, and would like to try it in other colors.

I LOVE this! On my super pale (N10) skin, this is the perfect color. I very rarely use this as the normal Dolce Vita product, but more so layer heavily for the perfect matte but muted red lip. The texture is hard to describe, it feels like a very waxy balm but less dense. I hope that makes sense... I find it non-drying though fading. Not terrible, because it is a lot of fun to re-apply. I give the packaging a 4 because the cap sometimes has trouble staying on. It's also kind of expensive considering how much you're getting, but definitely not expensive for the product itself. Overall, this is a HG product and I would love to try out the other colors. $24 but well worth it!

I am a fan of the chubby stick concept and Dolce Vita is one of my all-time favorite lipstick shades, so I had to give this a shot as well. The formula is more opaque than the lipstick version (which is sheer and glossy) and the color is a bit richer but they're in the same color family. It goes on smooth and creamy and it's pretty ideal for upping the polish factor. The wear, however, is not that matte and it wears off within an hour or two. Not that I mind reapplying -- it's fun to use.
$24 for a chubby stick about five inches long at Sephora.com or Beauty.com.

I love this. Perfect color for me. Even coverage. A little drying but I put chapstick on first and blot, then apply, then I put a layer of gloss. Why go to all the trouble? It lasts longer than lipstick. I can drink coffee, etc and my lips stay colored til mid afternoon.
I love the blush in this color too. Very flattering.

I really like this formula, and I definitely prefer this Dolce Vita over the lipstick version. That surprised me, I wasn't even going to try it in the pencil version. I've always liked the chubbie stick idea, and this are lovely. Matte yet not drying and decent lasting power.

I love this color but hate the product. It goes on like butter but it's too slippery so it doesn't give nice even coverage and I guess that's what I don't like, the texture (hard to explain!). I prefer the traditional lipstick. Also, it dries out my lips and not much staying power.

This is one of my favourite makeup products. I've gone through 3 of these so far! It is a perfect face brightener. Very natural looking while giving the whole face a 'lift'. I have pale neutral skin, with dark hair and Ifind it difficult to find a MLBB colour, as most things are either too dark, or turn a strange fuscia colour - but this is perfect.
Evertime I wear it, I get comments on how well and rested I look - even from the DH!
The texture is lovely - a creamy pencil that doesn't dry out lips at all. And the colour lasts hours and hours. IMO it looks a bit more orange in the pencil than on the lips.

I really love this stuff. For me, the Dolce Vita lipstick was my ultimate MLBB color, but staying power was a problem. Interestingly, I don't really want my lips to look natural usually, and I wear Jungle Red most days. When I want to look low-key but polished, though, Dolce Vita is the best color, and this new Velvet Matte pencil is the best texture! It stays on great, is very portable, and I will definitely buy again. Great stuff.

For a long time, my lips remained plain until I found this. In the past, I don't wear anything but a bit of tint on my lips because I don't like having the feeling that something is there and I hate having to reapply things as well. When I found this, I was sold... I love the color- it's not too bold to be screaming "I'm wearing lipstick!" but it is also bold enough to shape and fill your lips into a beautiful pout. It's long lasting and you can't feel it's there too... it's no nonsense and so easy to apply... I definitely prefer it to lipsticks.

I agree with the first reviewer that this is a great product. Unlike her, I did not like the original Dolce Vita lipstick, but I guess that's good - it means that, whether you were a fan of the original or not, your chances of liking the pencil are very good. This is DEFINITELY less brown that Dolce Vita lipstick, and a lot more MLBB for me as it has more rosey tint to it. As far as the texture is concerned, I owned 2 other matte pencils before (in Red Square and Walkyrie) and this is same in texture. Don't be fooled by the "matte" in the name of this pencil. This is not your typical drying matte lip-pencil-stick. It has a smooth consistency and glides on the lips VERY nicely, and it is not drying at all. The staying power is decent, and obviously, as the name says, this lipstick is matte, so has no shine. My experience is that, just as with the original, you will either love or hate this pencil. A word of advice, if you are testing this indoors, make sure you DEFINITELY grab a portable mirror and also look at the colour outdoors - before you buy it. I find that with colours like this (browney-rosey-orangeish), you want to make sure you like it in both lights as they tend to show up quite different in different lights. Giving it 4 lippies only b/c I find NARS overpriced.

I much prefer the original... for whatever reason I dont think that this color is particularly flattering in a matte... But then again, I really only like neutral pinks and beiges and or really bright or dark colors in matte textures....

I am re-writing my initially positive review. I've grown to dislike this, sadly, and have returned to my Dolce Vita lipstick. I do like how easily the Velvet Matte pencil applies and lasts (and doesn't dry out my lips). But after using it half a dozen times, I began to notice that it just seemed to "sit" on top of my lips and not meld in well. The color also turns an odd orange-ish pink on me. The overall effect is a bit like the old wax lips we'd buy at the candy store as kids. Not a good look for a middle-aged woman.
