This is an absolutely amazing product. You have to use it with a bit of precautionary warning.... yes, it is thick, oily, and quite frankly lays on the skin without much of it sinking in... However, if you cleanse your skin, apply this at night, let it sink in... you will notice your pores are smaller, your skin is supple, your face is noticeably clearer.
For reference, I am fair to warm skinned, oily/combination skin, and I am prone to breakouts. This does not irritate my skin at all, and in fact, retains the original moisture of my skin and does not interfere with it... It almost feels as though I am not wearing any kind of moisturizer at all in the morning, just like my normal skin but clearer, healthier, brighter...
In addition!! Alba UnPetro is amazing for your feet, elbows, lips, and the under eyes...especially during the day, if you want your eyes to feel totally lifted and moisturized. It's made from natural ingredients and will not clog your pores - just make sure you apply it to a totally clean face, no make-up residue at all, and you will be good.
I find that a main problem with people breaking out, and what might seem like "random" acne, it stems from improper makeup removal - you need to remove products from your face & neck completely - and sleeping on pillows that are loaded with grease and dirt and grime... not good :( .... I had terrible acne scars because I am fair skinned, but I also never realized what was causing RECURRENT acne... Once i stopped routinely breaking out, and I started using un-petro jelly, I noticed my face becoming cleaner & brighter... while eliminating previous acne scars.. As a little side note, please take my advice if you have skin like mine... and wash your sheets & pillow cases at LEAST once a week, if not two to three times....believe me, you will notice a change in your complexion.

Just amazing. Very inexpensive, and it works better than some of my most expensive moisturizers. Sometimes, Less is more.

I'm on my second tube of this. It's been an absolute lifesaver for me during my orientation phase w/Atralin (Rx tretinoin/retinoid gel). The consistency is ever so slightly thinner/runnier than Vaseline, and there is a distinct smell to it, although entirely natural (i.e. only from the ingredients themselves and not any added fragrance). I like the tube packaging because it doesn't get messy; it's also very hygienic. I apply it around my mouth, eyes, and the outer corners of my nose at bedtime to soothe my temporarily irritated skin. It immediately gives me relief. Previous to this I'd been using petroleum jelly, which also soothed my skin but seemed less effective because I'd still wake up with peeling around my mouth (whereas w/the Alba stuff that doesn't happen). I really like that it's a natural and simple product that does what I need it to do. I actually keep the tube right next to my bed it reminds me to massage a small dab of it into my cuticles at night so that I can wake up having soft & supple hands. And I do! So it's great for softening cuticles and the hands in general. I've also used it to remove my eye makeup, and it did indeed work for that as well. (Although I won't be doing that again, nor would I personally recommend it for that, especially if you're a contact lens wearer like I am; it made my vision blurry for the rest of the evening, which was very annoying and just altogether unpleasant). I purchase it at Whole Foods for around $6 or $7, and the tube lasts me well over a year w/daily (well, nightly) use. I will continue to repurchase again and again, probably forever, because it's just one of those indispensable no-nonsense-sort-of-does-it-all type of products that I cannot really imagine being without.
Highly recommend!

This is just like petroleum jelly....but it is NOT...it contains: castor seed oil , coconut oil, beeswax, hydrogenated castor oil, vitamin e....that's all. I bought this for my dry cheeks /rosacea...and it is intensely soothing if your skin is so dry that it hurts ....or your hands are cracking from dryness ( feet also) it can take a while to sink in , though ....depending on how much you put on. I use this at night...on hands and face. I wake up to even toned smooth skin! I love it... some may find this too heavy , though ....kinda like vaseline/petroleum jelly. It's great that its not an un-renewable resource with potential contaminates, and it lets your skin breathe.

Great alternative to petroleum. this is a bit thicker and harder to spread, but I think it lasts longer. I use this on my lips, eyes ~DOESNT STING LIKE VASELINE~, legs for strechmarks, hands for heavy duty cream. Can use it ANYWEAR, great to carry in purse for the winter.
Great as a chaptstick/lip balm/ lipgloss. Can mix minerals in with it to get color. I would like this in smaller tubes to easily apply on my lips though!
However it still should not be eaten because of the hydrogenated oil, but small amounts dont hurt.

I love this product, but it really only works amazing for very specific things. I would never apply this to my face (it's very, very thick, and oily and waxy). BUT, it does act as an amazing chap stick if your lips are very chapped.

tried this in October 2009 and before then i had an really didnt have to many skin problem just the once a month pmt breakout. I had moved to georgia and i think bcause of stress and humidity i got a couple pimples (which was strange for me) and not wanting to deal with that i saw a video by kandee johnson and she said she used Mychelle's Fruit cleanser and unpetroleum and her skin looks really good so i went online and ordered both of them i used this for about a week when i started to notice a series pimples which looked like rash i continued to use it for three more days until my mom told me that my faced looked bad. So i stopped using both things thinking that my skin would heal and go back....here it is august and my face is still looking bad i've been trying 9 months to get my skin back. Please be careful with this i dont know if it was the unpetroleum or the cleanser ( i think it was a combination of both) but i really regret ever using this stuff on my face. Works good on your lips though. Which is why i gave it a 2 instead of a 1

I really hate the idea of using petroleum products at all, and have avoided them as much as possible over the years, despite their widespread popularity and usage. If you think about what is in that jar, it makes smearing it all over yourself a whole lot less appealing.. in my opinion, anyway.
Now FINALLY:
a vaseline substitute that works WITHOUT petroleum! It can literally be used for EVERYTHING..feet, lips, face, elbows, and even on cuts and scrapes.
I am overjoyed about this product and tell everyone I know about it. Try it, and you will be grateful, as I am.

I was hesitant to purchase because I thought it would be another Vaseline. Wrong! It give my lips excellent hydration and does not interfere with listick. Apply like Vaseline in areas that need special attention. Some girls on the boards use this all over their face and see amazing plumping effects, which I'm sure is due to it's moisturizing properties. I never loved Vaseline, used mostly Aquaphor. This is easier to blend and is not tacky at all. I immediatley saw the difference. Must be due to the absence of petroleum. Petroleum never did a thing for me, as it irritated my exzema on hands. Great and so inexpensive. Put a lil bit in an empty pot for you make up bag. So many useful purposes!

Bought this on sale at Wholefoods. It contains nothing but a blend of waxes and oils and no petroleum which is nice. I apply this to my lips, knees, and elbows. It has a thick consistency, but you only need to use a little bit. I noticed it takes a while to sink but once it does, my skin is left feeling velvety and moisturized and it stays that way for most of the day. Takes care of any bodily flakiness due to eczema or dryness and moisturizes cuticles. This makes a great addition to your medicine cabinet and it's a great healthy alternative to regular vaseline.

Great product and great, natural alternative to Vaseline. A bottle will last for ages but I always have one in my cabinet! I also love the fact that it IS a bottle and you don't have to stick your fingers in a jar.

This was a good product for someone who likes thick stuff. I didn't really find use to it and found that using other things worked better, like olive oil.

This is like Vaseline but made with natural ingredients. Lots of oils in it (another reviewer lists the ingredients below) and I agree, it is a thinner consistency than Vaseline. The same results though, so if you use petroleum products for different uses, this is the natural alternative.
Definitely helps with chapped lips, dry hands or extremities. The only store I could find this at was the nearest Whole Foods. Price was reasonable: around the $6 range and I'd definitely purchase again, more for the fall and winter months and for use at the office.

Two words: Miracle Cream.
I am on Accutane for acne, have lupus, and have had perioral dermatitis in the past, so my skin is as sensitive as it comes. The Accutane has made my skin drier than Nancy Pelosi's vag, so I started coating my face and lips with Aquaphor, Cetaphil, and Vaseline to combat the constant flaking. Well, you can probably guess where this story is going; I didn't realize that petroleum aggravated perioral dermatitis, and it came back worse than ever before. My dermatologist couldn't put me back on antibiotics since I'm on such I high dose of Accutane, and I didn't know what to do! Without the Aquaphor my lips were so dry they were bleeding. Enter Alba Un-Petroleum. After only 2 days, the redness, pain, burning, flaking, and embarrassment are almost completely gone. This product is incredibly soothing, doesn't exacerbate my acne, and it's so inexpensive!!! The only con is that it makes my face really greasy and shiny. After the PD is resolved I will just use it to spot treat dry patches from the Accutane, and maybe as a nighttime moisturizer. I am ditching petroleum forever, as well as cutting SLS and flouride out of my life. May the "muzzle rash" never return!

This is, hands down, my favorite night-time moisturizer. During the winter nights (and sometimes the summer) it is a life-saver for dry skin, and sometimes I will use a very thin layer of it under my liquid makeup as a primer. I use it carefully, since it can make you look very oily, so I usually only wear it to bed.
Smell: The smell is alright. I actually love it, thought I'm not sure why.
Packaging: Great. I love the sanitary application (no pots, thank God!), and I really love the bright bottle. It reminds me that it is there.
Price: I paid 18 bucks for this back in November or December of '09. It is now the end of April '10, and I still have quite a bit left. Not bad, since I use it for my hands and chapped elbows as well. I will most definitely repurchase as soon as I feel I am in danger of running out.

I really enjoy this product. I bought it as an alternative to regular petroleum jelly and it works wonders. It is thinner in consistency than petroleum jelly but it is still on a thick side. Melts fast but it takes a while to absorb. I dont mind this as I use it overnight.
Ive had seriously chapped and dry hands because of my job (frequent washing). Using this nightly for less than a week gave my hands a total makeover. Now I can go back to using my regular lotions, but I still like to use this at least once a week as a hand mask. I also use it on my lips, and I swear it is the best lip gloss ever! My feet (especially heels), elbows, and other typically dry areas love this as well. All in all, a great and much healthier alternative than plain ol petroleum jelly. A little goes a long way, and this one tube will last me a year!

Great stuff for lips, cuticles, feet and other dry spots if you are looking for an alternative to petroleum jelly. The consistency is a bit thinner than petroleum jelly, which I like. A little goes a long way so I'll repurchase at some point, but I won't have to any time soon. My only wish it that it came in a small travel size, too!
Ingredients: Ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, beeswax, hydrogenated castor oil, tocopheryl acetate and tocopherol (Vitamin E).

Non-petroleum; made without petrolatum, paraffin or mineral oil

I, too, love this product. When I first purchased it I wasn't sure exactly what to do with it - but I now use it freely at night on my face after I have applied my nightime moisturizers. I especially like to use it around my mouth and eyes. Not only does it seem to help hold in the product I have just put on my face, it also seems to moisturize and makes my face look and feel great in the morning. I think you could use this product anywhere - face, hands, elbows, feet - at night to soften your skin. I also use vaseline but this product seems less likely to clog pores on my face...so that is primarily where I use it. Also, since I have to order it on line I am a little greedy with it. Next time I purchase it I will buy more than one tube, I know that. Good product and I want to throw out a thank you - as others have - to Kandee Johnson. She provides great basic make up advice with a heart.

Great night cream. I was as first hesitant about putting such a greasy product on my face overnight, but it really does do wonders! Also its not petroleum, so you won't have to worry about clogged pores. After I wash my face i use a 10% AHA and then lac-hydrin five and then this. You will wake up to baby soft skin. I recently stopped using BP and have not regretted it one minute. I think it was a little harsh for my skin. Being gentle and hydrating has worked wonders. Also, as many have read on this board..include vitamin d3, and zinc in your vitamin arsenal and it will really improve your skin. Love this product!
Edit!! I really loved the way this felt on my skin, however after using it for a month, I started to breakout and develop dry patches on my face. Come to find out, I think I have seborrheic dermatitis on my face, as I have all the classic signs..sensitive to all botanicals and natural oils/ dry areas around nose and mouth and between brows. This has coconut oil which totally destroyed me! Mineral oil and petrolatum are my friend, and I have pretty much been bathing in mineral oil with wonderful results. Just because a product is natural, doesn't mean it will work for everyone..I found this out with this product. Seb derm girls..avoid all natural oils and you will most likely see positive results! Also have been slathering on Amlactin on my face morning and night and my skin loves it!
