My favorite blush brush... and ive been looking for years ive tried the 129, 116, 168, and those are just the mac ones. i dont know why but the 109 works the best for me, i love the shape and i love that its smaller and you have more control to apply the brush where you need it. i only use nars blushes, and this works the best with those. the colors always come across true, they havent when ive used other brushes. oh and you can also use this brush for liquid foundation also so thats great.

I love MAC brushes. They're priced well, good-quality, and work superbly. I recently got the 109 brush after hearing all the great reviews. It's small, but for some reason it works incredibly well.
I find it a bit too small for liquid foundations - but it works great for everything else! I use this for dusting powder to set my concealer. I also love this for contouring the cheekbones, it's actually a lot easier than using the angled brushes.
Highlighting the cheekbones is a breeze as well - the shape of the brush fits perfectly in this area (as well as adding highlighter to the chin, jawline and forehead.)
This brush feels soft, and it has a certain amount of give that allows you to buff the product into your skin flawlessly. It doesn't budge in any way or start to skip on the skin. This works and it's a great value at $32. Buy this -- you'll love it!

I love this brush for applying my blush. I like the small size and denseness. I do find that is sheds quite a bit. Definitely sheds more with my cream blushes, but still sheds with powder too. I deducted one lippie for this. They call this their cotton ball brush and it really describes this well.

This is my favorite of all my brushes! I love how it buffs the product into to my skin and gives a great, airbrushed look without looking fake. I use this for liquid foundation (I use Revlon Colorstay w/Soft Flex) all over my face, and then use it to apply MAC's Loose Blot Powder to my nose. I was going to get the large stippling brush but my MA at MAC persuaded me to get this one instead, and I am so glad she did. I saved myself $20 AND the results are perfect. I haven't experienced any shedding at all. I have noticed that if you don't clean the brush frequently (every 10 days or so), the build-up of foundation in the bristles can cast an orange-y hue on your face. This isn't any different though from any other soft-haired foundation brush I've used.

the cotton ball brush! i didnt know this was a pro brush because i got it at a regular mac stand? i use this brush for contouring and highlighting. mostly highlighting as others have said its great for doing the c shape, it does it so accurately. i wouldnt use it as a blush as i feel it would apply way too much product giving you that freaky rag doll look! a nice brush but no staple, good to have in my collection.

Unlike for some of the other reviewers, this is not a 100% staple brush for me. I pretty much only use it to buff in highlighters. IMHO, this brush is PERFECT for this purpose. I had a the small version of this brush for a while (use it for travel), and was recently convinced that I needed the full size for home. As another reviewer noted, this is essentially a miniature kabuki, and thus is perfect for buffing product into the face. The small shape thus makes it ideal for me to buff highlighters into that "C" shape on the cheekbone and temple. Other size brushes are just too big to do that job, and a regular blush brush doesn't have the density required to do any buffing. This only gets a 4 from me because I only have one use for it (buffing highlighters) and thus I don't consider it indispensible. On the other hand, I strongly recommend this brush if you are into highlighters at all; this brush will take any highlighter you use to the next level.

Love this brush!!!, This is a fanastic dense buffer brush. Its great for applying powders for more coverage - works great with studio fix powder does a great job of hiding my acne scars. This is also the only brush that applies studio fix fluid without it looking cakey on me it really gives an airbrushed look much better than the 187. This brush is great for contouring its small enough you can contour your nose and cheekbones effortlessly. Works perfectly for buffing out colour or applying highlighter.too - HG versatile brush can't live without it !!!

I absolutely love this brush. I can use it for almost anything. Concealer, foundation (liquid, cream or powder), powder, fix+, blush, bronzer, contour, highlight. If there was one brush that you had to get from mac i suggest you get this one. The only problem with it is that it sheds. You will probably find 2 or 3 bristles on your face by the end of the application. But this is such a wonderful brush i dont even care.
EDIT: mine just kinda stopped shedding after a while. im not sure why but i guess its a good thing

Although this brush applies my Studio Fix Fluid foundation like a dream, it sheds like a mad dog!
For the price, I would expect much better.
I will be returning it for my 32 bucks.

This is an excellent brush for the face. It's a smaller buffing brush with a long handle. It's excellent for applying liquid foundation (it gives more coverage) and it's especially good for highlighting! Cream or powder products looks gorgeous on the skin with this brush. And while it does shed sometimes, which is annoying, I find that that performance of this brush outweighs the fact that it sheds every 5th-8th time I use it.

Just got this in a delivery this morning and i already used it to apply foundation and OH MY GOODNESS talking about shedding!! it was all over my face!! Maybe i need to use it for powders instead of liquids, maybe it'll stop?? i don't know!!, i paid about £20 for this which really gets me!!
So i'll see if it'll stop, other than that it's pretty good! good for highlighting, and contouring as well!!
edit: swapped it away, waste of money, contour 168 is better and 187 is better for liquid foundation!

I use this brush everyday to apply my Studio Fix Powder Foundation. I've tried other brushes i.e) 187 and other powder brushes, but I find myself going back to the 109. While it may take me a bit longer to apply my foundation, this brush gives me precision and control. The brush is also soft enough for your all over - everyday face use. This brush also works well for the MAC iridescent pressed powders. I would love MAC to produce a similar brush that is just a little bit larger

This is one of the best multi-purpose brushes out there. I was recommended this brush by a very talented MA. The 109 is perfect for not only stippling and blending liquid foundation (you don't have to buff hard at all) on for a flawless finish but it is also great for contouring and applying blush (both powder and cream). The top is a small, somewhat flat, dome-ish circle and is great for stippling. You can go straight from liquid foundation to contouring to blush without cleaning between products because the brush doesn't keep a lot of the product in its bristles but rather deposits it directly to the skin for a great finish. I highly recommend this to any beginner out there. It is also much cheaper than the 187 brush which I have, and although I love it, this brush gets even more love. Mine sheds a little, but nothing too major.
Update: 7/20/08. I wash frequently and haven't seen any shedding as of late. If I could give this 10 lippies, I would. This brush is just SO versatile and I find myself reaching for it constantly. I love using it for applying powder foundation. Buffs effortlessly, like a long handled mini kabuki almost. It's perfect for medium-full powder coverage because it's pretty dense. I also use it to apply setting powder under my eyes after concealer. I could even see someone using this to apply a base e/s on their eyelid! I would buy 100 of these if I could.

I was in Mac store looking for brushes, MA told me this one was his favourite, he was using this for liquid and powder fndt application(for full coverage). I don't need any full coverage so i passed that day. Then i read the reviews here and i bought this one for blusher(cream/powder) and bronzer application. It's like a small kabuki brush, you can buff the product into your skin. My cheeks look fabolous with this brush! i buff blushers, highlighters, bronzers into my skin, gives glowy natural look. i couldn't apply Nars O. well with my Versace blush brush(it wasn't impressive looking), but this one with buffing in, makes O. look like inner glow, gorgeous! I also use this for cream blushes, and it blends well into my skin, buffing again:) I would repurchase definetely this brush and even thinking of getting one more:D

I bought this brush on the MA's suggestion. But he suggested it for foundation. Since it is a natural brush and I don't have time to clean my brushes after each foundation application so I decided not to use it for that. I do use it for cheeks and shimmer products. I love that the brush is nicely and densely packed.
I would buy another one.

Absolutely fantastic brush. When applying strong blushers, a stipple brush is often recommended, but I`ve always found that they leave a dappled effect - not a good look if you`re trying to wear Exhibit A! This brush is excellent for applying really strong, concentrated colours as the smaller brush head gives much greater control of the area you`re applying it to, and the flat top enables you to buff the product into your skin for a glowing from within look. My favourite, most versatile brush!

I bought this brush on the recommendation of the MAC makeup artist for liquid foundation application. While I like the effect, it sheds WAY TOO MUCH when used with liquids or creme products. I find myself spending more time removing hairs from my face than applying product. This problem isn't nearly as pronounced when it's used with powders such as blush or bronzer--so I wonder why they keep recommending it for foundations and creme blushes. Disappointing--and my first MAC brush purchase.

The worst brush I own, hands-down, and what adds insult to injury is that I paid $32 for it. I went in to buy a cream blush, and the MA told me that this blush was really great for blending cream blushes in. I told her that I heard that they blend better with your fingertips, and she convinced me I was wrong. Well, serves me right for being so nieve, because now I'm stuck with a brush I don't use. This doesn't blend my cream blushes in well at all, and this sheds at least a few hairs every single time I use it (nothing is attractive about having brush hairs stuck to your cheeks!). The hairs on the brush are scratchy, which makes blending in blush or any type of makeup for that matter slightly unpleasant. The quality of this brush is awful. Think twice before you buy!

Absolute must-have for all makeup lovers. This brush is perfect for a ton a things. I use it to apply my cream foundations, blush, bronzer, blending, the list goes on. I also use it for contouring. It’s the best brush because you have a lot of control and apply products evenly.

I love this brush for my cream blushes and both liquid and powder highlighters. It has a smaller head so you're able to control the product placement better. I did notice it tends to shed a lot but I'm rather rough on this brush so it's probably more my fault. Very soft hairs, definitely worth the $32.
