I love Proactiv, but I did notice that during the winter it is a little drying. During the summer though it's perfect. And their oil control lotion works awesome if you haven't tried it! During the winter I use Proactiv at night and in the mornings I use Mary Kay Timewise Cleanser and the Proactiv repairing lotion. Doesn't dry my skin out as much if I only use it once a day. :)

I have been using this product for years and it's been okay. I continue to use it because when I switch to other products my face breaks out. I have very oily skin and while I don't really have acne, I do get whiteheads and have persitent blackheads that do not go away. This product keeps my skin pretty clear except during that certain time of the month. While I don't rave about this product, it's probably worth a try.

I had heard about Proactiv for a long time (who hasn't seen their ads on TV?) but I was reluctant to try it. I was very skeptical. Then my cousin's (who has always had problems with acne) face started clearing up and I asked her what she was using and she said Proactiv and I decided to go ahead and try it. Boy, do I wish I had been less skeptical and bought it before! My skin looks so fantastic now, I couldn't be happier! I have always had problems with acne and I use to get boils (you know, those painful zits) and ever since Proactiv I have had none and I've been using it for about six months. My skin no longer breaks out, not even during my monthly time, and it is smooth and completely unblemished. I love the cleanser, it really exfoliates and cleans and I LOVE the repairing lotion it is so soft on your skin and not at all harsh, as I had previously feared. If you have problems with your skin, please don't be like me and continue being skeptical, try it because you will feel so confident and good about yourself. *** Ladies who say that using Proactiv made their skin red, inflammed, bumpy, etc. and returned the product after not using it for a month or longer, did not give Proactiv a fair try. You have to stick with it and see if it works, don't just dismiss it after not even giving it a fair try.

The problem with ProActive ( for me at least) is that after about a month, my skin seemed to be immune to it. Other people have used it and it works well. I think the problem with most people who complain is that they have to know their skin. All skin is different. I figured out that my breakouts are not childhood acne like I thought. I have stress breakouts and irritation for chemicals instead and I irritate them when I touch my face. This is probably why this product did not work for me. Instead, I now use Black opal soap ( it works for all skin types) or Palmer's Cocoa Butter Soap (also works for all skin types), alternating between the two. I uses Burt's Bees Tomato Toner for Oily Skin ( excellent product) and so far I have had very clear skin over all. Now all I have to do is clear up the scaring with fade cream.
I am happy!

I have a love-hate relationship with the ProActiv 3-step system. The cleanser is nice as a once-a-week-get-the-weeks-grim-off type cleanser/scrub but too harsh as an everyday thing for my sensitive skin. The Benzoyl peroxide was just too much and made me break-out and dry-out. The toner was nice, has a mild glyloic acid which gently exfoliates while soothing with chamomile and aloe vera. The repairing lotion was okay, absorbs quickly but too much benzoyl peroxide which, again, dried me out. Over all- too much exfoliation (think about it, you're exfoliating your skin twice in a row- scrub cleanser & the BHA toner- that's too much for really sensitive skin) and too much Benzoyl peroxide (cleanser & lotion). I might buy the cleanser and toner on QVC and use the cleanser once-a-week and the toner everyday but never again the entire system everyday. Good luck.

A friend gave this to me to try when I suddenly started having a problem with acne at age 22. Once I realized what the ingredients were, I dicovered (from reading Paula Begoun's book "Don't got to the cosmetics counter without me") that there were other products that would do the same thing for a lot less money. I now use Neutogena On-the-spot 2.5% Benzol Peroxide after using a mild cleanser. I'm glad I didn't purchase this since there are much cheaper alternatives.

I had really bad acne two years ago and this did nothing for me. Plus it's very expensive. After this I started using regular dial soap and clearsil vanishing cream and I've never looked back.

This is the most overrated acne treatment ever! I bought it out of desperation since I am very prone to breakouts. I continuously get pimples, but they usually aren't a big deal until that time of the month. After only the first day of using this product, I had 3 cystic pimples pop up--on my jawline, cheek, and eyebrow. This has never EVER happened to me before. But since I had been banking on this product working, I continued to use it for a week. My skin had never looked so bad. I'm returning this ASAP.

Totally waste of money. It irritated my skin terrible. My face became red, swollen, and itching. Returned it immediately.

The low rating is based on my personal experience; I appreciate that it is a must-have skin-saver for many others. I didn't think of my skin as sensitive before trying this--I've always had normal-to-combo-with-some-acne skin. But this was one of the worst products I've ever tried, based on the way my skin reacted--far more drying than bar soap, plus it caused benzoil-peroxide-induced irritation that left me splotchy, flaky, and broken out for a couple of weeks after discontinuing. It doesn't even remove makeup well; there just aren't any benefits to it for me. Since then, I've learned to stay with mild, effective cleansers and alcohol-free toners (plus sunscreen of course!) and my skin has been clearer and happier. It might be worth a try if your skin is consistently oily as well as robust, not delicate or sensitive. Even so, it might be a good idea to do a sensitivity test first on your jaw or wrist before applying it to your entire face. It's very strong and definitely not for everyone. On the plus side, ProActiv is very good about accepting returns.

I tried this before my wedding four years ago--i had moderate small acne breakouts on my forehead, and nothing worked. So i fell for the TV ad. This stuff was so harsh--the cleanser was a scrub, and every product had benzoyl peroxide in it! That's way too much irritation for acne prone skin, which is easily irritated. My face was bright red for a week! The only positive thing i can say about this product is they do honor the 100% satifaction, money return guarantee. I got my money back.
(Now i've figured out that sodium lauryl sulfate causes my acne, so once i cut out products that had that ingredient, my acne is all but gone.)

It kinda worked for me in the beginning...i had acne on my forehead...but i used it on my whole face anyways....and guess what happens...i started breaking out on my cheeks as well..being a stupid i am, i was still hoping that it would clear up soon...but NO...it got worse and worse..my skin got really dry and flaky...but it still had many humongous pimples.....i was devastated....i wasn't even allergic to benzol peroxide before i used this product...after i stopped using the product...whenever i use other products that contain benzol peroxide, my skin had horrible reactions...my face got completely red and extremely itchy....i really hate this product...they claim it's really gentle and stuff...GENTLE MY BUTT!

I used Pro-Activ for about a year and I had quite good results. I have suffered from mild acne for years, and pro-activ kept it under control for a while. I still had some small breakouts, but overall my skin was in much better condition. I really liked the repairing lotion and cleanser in particular, although I always found that I would run out of the cleanser really quickly. I think the toner might have been slightly too harsh for my skin.
I have recently moved to a drier climate and pro-activ is making my skin too dry so I had to stop using it.

If you don't mind bleaching towels, then try this.
I used it for about 2 weeks and saw a dramatic difference in my skin right away. I don't have 'actual' acne but rather lots of little red bumps around my cheeks and chin, mixed together with pimples occasionally, mostly on my forehead and chin. After watching their inticing infomercial, I thought it would work. It did, my face cleared up pretty quickly and it felt great.
HOWEVER...I was noticing that my nice purple towels were looking like they got bleached somehow in odd spots. So I tested it one day with an old blue towel. I washed my fashed, dried it on the blue towel and sure enough the next morning...bleached! Nice pink spots where I had dried my face. If that's what it's doing to to my towels, what in the world is it doing to my face??? Returned it!

I started using this product about three months ago after we moved into a house that had hard water and no water softener. This really wreaked havoc on my skin as it is normally kind of dry, especially in the winter, so I leave it alone but with the hard water acne started popping up more than usual and my skin just looked unhealthy. If I used acne medication it would dry it out horribly and if I then used moisturizer, it would break out again! So! After seeing my friend start using it with very soft skin and better complexion as a result, I just had to give it a try.
So far, I am very pleased with it and use the cleanser, toner only occasionally, SPF tint in combination with the moisturizer and at night I sometimes use the more emollient one. My skin is back, more or less, to normal and the breakouts are much less frequent. I do recommend! :) Don't buy the membership however, buy the largest size you can find and only the ones that you will actually use and this will save you a TON of money.

The very same day I stopped using it, I saw improvement.

This works better than any skin care system I have ever tried. It made a considerable difference in my skin. It doesn't give that minty-clean feeling that always made me break out. I can barely feel this stuff. My only qualm is that I'm lazy, and this is 3 steps twice a day (although the system works best for me once a day).

im going to have to rave about these products. the toner, deep cleansing wash, renewing cleanser, and repairing lotion are amazing! a few years ago i was sick of my red pimply face that id get through out each month on and off and i decided to try proactiv. ive been using it for over two years and my face looks so much better! the main time i get pimples now is 'that time of the month' and thats fine with me. excellent product.
