I normally don't wear WP mascaras b/c they're hard to remove, but I need a WP mas. to wear while hiking & sweating in an upcoming trip. I bought this 'cuz its been around forever & it was cheap - figured since all I want is a light coat for a natural look, that this should work. Well, brand new, this stuff was a clumpy mess w/ dry little bits; it acted like a long opened, long lost mascara from the bottom of my vanity drawer. If I can get it on nice, it looks ok, although even the black/brown is a bit harsh looking (I like Featherlash brown). Other reviewers mentioned how hard this is to remove, & I agree - Rimmel MU remover, Almay remover, cleanser, and yes, even baby oil won't budge this stuff, so I guess it will hold up under sweaty conditions. I also noticed last night that my eyes were a bit itchy; I can only assume its this stuff. I'll limp along w/ it for my trip, but I won't repurchase.

I like the waterproof version better than the original version. It is less goopy and clumpy. I have very straight and stubborn eyelashes and I use this one as my "base coat" before my other mascara. It makes my other mascara stay put. BTW I use Lancome Deficils as my last step inbetween curling and Great Lash Waterproof.

i hate this thing! makes my lashes SO hard and then it takes forever to get it off with even clean and clear makeup removing foaming facewash... i lose lashes getting this stuff off too. it says that it won't smudge at all but it smudged a tiny bit on me... sucks

This is the only waterproof mascara that I've tried that is really waterproof. Consequently, it takes forever to remove the mascara and I lose eyelashes for doing so. =( This mascara lengthens, thickens, and slightly curls my eyelashes, which is a miracle since my lashes are stick-straight AND stubborn. The mascara also never clumps. My only wish is that there is a WATERPROOF and CURVED BRUSH great lash...the best of both worlds. :D At pharmaplus, I bought two of these for 5 dollars canadian, so the price is not bad at all. This mascara has been my makeup bag must have for 4 years because I love that naturally beautiful eyelashes look. I strongly reccomend it to everybody, and for 2.50, it's ok to give it a shot. ^_^

The first (main) ingredient in this product is petroleum distillates.
Guidelines for Petroleum Distillates Personal Protection:
Prevent skin contact.
Prevent eye contact.
Why is Maybelline putting this ingredient in something that goes on your eyes?

I have used this for a pretty long time, and am quite happy with it. Yes, it is difficult to remove, but if you just take a minute to clean gently with a good makeup remover, it doesn't pull out any lashes. I always had horrible problems with mascara running and flaking; I wear contacts and am always messing with my eyes because they get irritated, which causes mascara smudging. However, with Great Lash, it stays put all day. Definitely worth the extra effort at night to remove - its way more convienent than trying to fix raccoon eyes all day long. Also, I like the way its not too thick or clumpy - very natural looking. I would recommend this to anyone, not only for the quality but the price - $3.49.

This was a disgusting, clumpy, mess that flaked all over the place onto my face. I don't know how all the magazines say this is the most popular mascara. Do not buy this.

I'm searching for a different mascara, since I can't seem to find Lashfinity. I bought both this and CG's Marathon Mascara (reviewed elsewhere) to test out. I purchased this in Soft Black, and I paid $3.47 at Wal-Mart. Okay...so it was reasonably priced. I remember buying this years ago, and I could not remember why I wasn't still wearing it.
First...I followed the directions on the back of the packaged and "pumped" this mascara a bit to get things working. I then applied to my lashes. I do like the little brush, although I know some people don't...it helps get the mascara to every little lash. And I seem to be curved-brush stupid, so I liked the straight brush. The color was okay...I mean, soft black, pretty basic. But ewwww...this did NOTHING for my lashes. I have normally long, thick, light-colored lashes, but this made me look like I had stubs growing out of my eyelids. It didn't give me a natural look, a thickened look, a lush look, nothing...just a clumpy, lumpy, icky look. I tried applying one coat and then combing through with a brush, but that didn't help a bit. It seriously looked like a bad Halloween getup.
Okay, I reasoned...I can work with this, maybe practice and get the feel of it, IF the wear is good. So, I put in a sappy DVD guaranteed to make me cry and waited. Sure enough, the waterworks started...and the mascara RAN for higher ground...namely, my cheeks. It all wiped off under my eyes and totally wore off my lower lashes, while the moisture made the upper lashes all clump together. Unilash...great look...ranks right up there with a unibrow. One good thing...what was left DID come off easily with some Burt's Bees Apricot Baby Oil and Tomato toner..
This is soooooooo going back to the store.

I've been using Great Lash for years because it's such a highly recommended classic, and whom am I to part with tradition? I have naturally very long and curved lashes, so I don't really need fancy formulations, plus I prefer a more natural look, which this gives me. I tried the waterproof formulation recently because I wanted staying power, but I found that the extra effort it takes to get it off at night isn't worth it—it tends to pull out a few lashes in the process. I prefer the regular Great Lash in Blackest Black.

This is an ok mascara. Compared to its reputation, it's a disappointment- it flakes, smears and clumps.

During the summer I went swimming a lot so all mascara had to be waterproof. Unfortunately buying Great Lash in waterproof was a mistake. It doesn't do anything for my lashes... it just makes them stiff and crunchy and trying to remove it irritates my eyes. I don't think I'd buy it again.

My friend always uses Great Lash, and her lashes always look awesome so I decided to pick some up. I accidently bought the waterproof and boy, was that a mistake! This is possibly the worst mascara I have ever used. It's impossible to remove (even with makeup remover I had a hard time), dries way to fast which makes it hard to touch up during the day because your lashes are so brittle and dry, and I found it extremely clumpy. Plus, I like my mascara to leave my lashes a little bit glossy looking. This stuff dried right up and made my lashes look dead.
Maybe the non-waterproof great lash is better, but the waterproof is the pits.
Thumbs WAY down.

I bought this masacara today because there was a sale. I never tried Maybelline masacar before.
After I tried it.. I refunded it!!
It irritated my eyes!!
After I applied it.. my eyelids were actually stingy...!!
Also, it didn't thicken very well and I found it clumpy.
I will not buy it again for sure!!

Not bad. It's one of the best waterproof mascaras I've tried, because it doesn't smudge as much as other mascaras. It also holds a good curl for the whole day. Length is mediocre and I don't really see thickening. Overall, not bad, especially for the price (4$ or less if you find it on sale.)

I absolutly adore Diorshow and tried several other high end mascaras but after reading all the raves in the magazines I had to try this. And I must admit, I was amazed, for such a low price it is a really good product. When I was a teen I often used drugstore brand mascaras and they all sucked big time so either technology has changed or this one is definetly an exception. Offcourse you cannot expect the same result as from a mascara which costs about three times more but it gives you a nice look altough it doesn't curl at all which is something I really need to have in a mascara. If I was younger or if I ever have moneyprobs (lets keep our fingers crossed this never happens) I would revert to this one for sure.

WHEN THEY SAY WATERPROOF THEY REALLY MEAN IT... ITS HARD TO GET OFF.. MY eyelashes came out every once in a while. but other than that its makes it look better than the original to me. I like it. but the removal. its just too much for me to deal with

It's definetly not the greatest mascara out there but it does get the job done. I bought this while on a while on a road trip mainly because there was a 2 for 1 sale (basically 3.99 for 2) and i was in desperate need. I ended using the curved brush that came in the non waterproof tube for this one, it worked better. If i used more than 2 coats it started to get really clumpy. But the worst thing about this stuff is the stiffness it gives (it makes my lashes way too stiff and hard, making them prone to breakage). I wouldn't buy this again (l'oreal voluminous is a better option and only a couple bucks more...).

I'm shocked at the crappy reviews this product gets. I own three different kinds of the Great Lash, but I felt the Waterproof one is the best. I use "Very Black" and "Soft Black." Both are very waterproof, which has been proven through tears, swimming, and sweating. I use my eyelash curler before I apply this, and it makes it so much easier and mess-free. I don't have to coat my lashes more than two times. My lashes are never clumpy or dried out, and I use this almost everday! Plus I always seem to get a good deal when I buy this stuff. I have never spent over $7 (Canadian) so i'm pretty happy. I have used quite a few mascara's b4 this one, and they are nothing compared to this. Very pleased and I will continue purchasing.

I'm really surprised at the reviews here...to tell u the truth...this worked better than Lash Out or Voluminous on me.....thats really odd considering all the bad reviews........it made my lashes thick in ONE coat as opposed to my other mascaras that need 2 or 3.....i liked it so far...im planning to try full n soft next to see if it lived up to the hype...for now,i'll repurchase bcoz it gives me such lush lashes everytime i put it on top of another mascara
