I have not worn this perfume for many years, but just thinking of its scent brings back many fond memories. I did not like it the first time I tested it (1987), but it grew on me when a boyfriend suggested it a few years later. As others have said, it smells purple. It is *very* strong and a little bit goes a long way. I highly recommend the EDP over the EDT. The fragrance is much richer and "truer". It lasts longer and is more subtle (somehow) that way also. Another oddity I have noticed ... I find that Poison is a "brunette" perfume. I once bleached my dark hair blonde and found that it no longer suited me. I can't explain it, but somehow it just did not fit. It was all wrong for my chemistry. When I went back to brown, it was great again. Go figure! :)

I have worn this on and off since the 1980s. My late mom used to buy it for me at Christmas, and it brings back many fond memories. Poison makes a powerful statement on the right woman. It either works on you or it doesn't. Give it a fair trial. Get past your opening impression of grapes mixed with Raid, Pine Sol and moth balls. After a half hour, it softens into a pretty spice like Spellbound. Use common sense when wearing it. Don't wear it to work or in crowds. Don't layer it with matching body products. Wear it underneath your clothes rather than on top where it tends to linger, and don't spray a cloud from head to toe. This is an adults-only fragrance. Let the Barbies, J-Los, Britney wanna-bes, Mary-Kate & Ashleys, and Pink fragrance types of the world pass this by.

Awful. And what's more, to my nose it smells the same on everybody - exactly as it comes out of the bottle. Awful.

Love the bottle, love the name, hate the perfume. I tried hard to like it as I love many florientals but this is just too much floral for me I guess. It just takes over and I can't smell anything else when I wear it which is not a good thing and it's probably just as irritating to anyone sitting around me too. I don't recall anyone ever complimenting me when I wore this and normally I receive lots of compliments on my various perfumes. I will never ever buy this again.

Poison, in it's lovely dark purple bottle has unfairly copped a very bad reputation thanks to those who bathed in it during the 1980s/early90s. It is a fairly heavy, sweet fruity floral oriental which should be applied in moderation. If the rule of moderation is followed it is a pleasant and unusual (these days) evening scent. Put too much on, (more than 2 squirts) and you will have a cloud following you which will grab others by the nostrils and drag them around the room!

If you like the smell of rotting garbage, this is the smell for you, but don't expect others to enjoy your presence. If they do, anyway, there's something else you're putting out there that keeps them around.

My mother uses this and I personally think it smells heinous. It reminds me of bug spray and it's really strong. There is nothing feminine about this scent.

I wore this for a few years, as anyone with a cobra tattoo (before it was fashionable!) would have to do. Unfortunately, its decadent dark fruitiness changed once it got on my skin. My husband said it smelled like baby powder, and I had to agree.

I was probably one of the first girls in my teeny tiny Texas town to get Poison via mail, thanks to a tear-out order form in Vanity Fair. I fell in love with it back in the 80's, and the love affair continues. It's a little bit grapey, a little bit lily-of-the-valley, a little bit spicey (think of a Pasha's tent), quite a bit boozy, and heavy on the unidentifiably sweet, sexy notes. There was a certain designer drug that was, um, legal when I was in college, and I always thought that Poison was the olfactory equivalent to one of those crazy, wild chemically-enhanced all-nighters when the moon was low and bright and the night went on forever. Poison, in all its many incarnations (Tendre, Hypnotic, etc.) goes past romance, sex, and mystery - this captures the zeitgeist of a decade I'll never forget.

Never bought this because I have too many others and this is too easily identifiable, but boy, this just screams the 80's to me, and fits my definition of smelling "purple." But I loved the 80's and the in your face extravagance of the grapey scents that seemed to be in fashion. I think grape was the vanilla of that era. Like vanilla is popular now, grape was popular then. UPDATE: I tried one sample and it was awful, but then weeks later I tried a different bottle. A heavenly mix of roses, cinnamon and grapes/berries to me. Very strong, then settles well. I may buy a bottle after all these years.UPDATE 2012...I bought this years ago and put it in today as I go Christmas tree shopping. It is delicious and I am glad to have it as part of my collection. Lots seem to vary and I am not sure if mine is vintage or not. I only sprayed my legs once and my chest once, and that's it. The grapey goodness makes me feel like I just had a grape bluberry pie, only I have not eaten yet this AM! I am go glad I got a good bottle of this!

I've been in love with Poison since I was a child. Now I have my own bottle and I think it works well on my chemistry, although hubby feels it wears off a bit fast. It's perfect for us goth-victorian types! I would say the scent reminds me of luxurious nights in a manor drinking absinth and wearing purple velvet while reading Byron... if you are that sort of woman, go for it! Not well suited for daytime though, and definitely not for hot summer days. You won't want to sweat while wearing this! A scent that matches cool nights, black dresses and candlelight dinners.

I have not yet met a man that doesn't love this fragrance. (Even my brother, who's not into fragrances at all, smelled the bottle and went: Mmm...) When I wear this strangers come up to me and say I smell good or that my perfume is very nice, both men and women. EVERY TIME I wear this people comment on it in a nice way. That said, I like Poison myself but it's not my favorite. (I wish it were, considering the male response!) To me it smells like berries, plums and rain. The color of the bottle describes the scent very well. I tend to wear it more in summer for some reason. I love the bottle, the box, the whole aura of mystère and danger, but to me the scent is just a bit too sweet/floral/berries. (I love leather/chypres.) Still, though I haven't quite figured out why, it always gets me compliments, so maybe I should reevaluate it... :)

Predominantly grapey, with a dark tartness biting through the sweet. Poison stayed fruity throughout wear, with a powdery undercurrent emerging on drydown. Quite an interesting scent, but definetely in the category of heady 80s perfumes.

I remember back in the 80's the advertisment for this was a young blonde girl with lots of purple makeup. I frankly, I think this perfume is best left for the geriatric generation.

Grape jelly? Hi-C? BUG SPRAY? What on earth are these people talking about?? This is vampy, edgy, and sexy as all get-out...it's a heady and spicy rosey and ambery oriental floral to my nose...very heavy and mysterious, nothing subtle about it at all! Reminds me of something the beautifully corrupt (and oft misunderstood) wicked stepmother or evil queen would wear. Luxurious and sophisticated and wicked!
Old lady-ish?? Child puh-lease.
This was my signature scent when I was 16 years old. To an old lady of 28, this is still a highly sensual and sublimely divine elixir...the kiddies can keep their Tommy Girl and Happy...give me POISON!

I don't normally wear this. It's a very heavy fragrance and a little bit goes a long way. There's definitely a grape smell to it, but overall it's just a dark, enveloping fragrance. I do like it though, and the staying power it has is amazing- lots of perfumes I have to reapply 3-4 times a day- this is at most twice, but you still have a strong scent with just putting some on your wrists and a little bit on your neck.

I love it. Although i remember a green bottle from when i was a kid? or i might of muddled with something like pino or polo.
Anyway, it's sweet, rich, fruity floral but soft in the type of floral i think.
It's a strong scent but it doesn't intoxicate me. If i were to call anything intoxicating "poison", it would be beyond paradise(yuck), Sicily (yuckier) or diorissimo (love/hate relationship with me)
Dark grape flavour is right.. it's really nice in general and comfortable. You can smell it on yourself which is good too. It does it's job and well at that.
