For me it was very calming and it saved my skin a few times when it was red, dry and stressed because of retin a and aha’s.
I was very reluctant to use it because of the mineral oil and the silicon in it but on the comedogeniality (sp?) lists all the ingredients in this cream are 99% safe, way better then many creams that I’ve used before.
I’ve been using this cream on my combination / dehydrated / acne prone skin for over 1 year w/o any problems.

I have very sensitive skin due to psoriasis and the SA said I should try this. I tried it for a month and it works! My skin is less red and also the sensitivity is a lot better. I love this and definitely will be my hg!

Unfortunately this cream didn't recover nor calm my skin. It actually made my skin feel really tight and dry after so i returned it. I think this cream might've been too rich (petroleum based)for my dehydrated skin.

after having several allergic reactions that consisted of itchy, bumpy skin and acne breakout, my skin was left with dark marks, i used this product and the dark marks are noticeably lighter, hopefully the petroleum derivative won't do any harm. this product is a lightweight lotion and not scented. update: i've beeen using this again in conjunction w/ skinceuticals phyto corrective & my red acne dots are fading, can't say for sure that it's the avene thats doing the job, but i've used skinceuticals by itself in the past & haven't noticed this much improvement, so maybe the 2 together does the trick, anyways this really is a staple of mine to keep around, my mom even uses it when she gets eczema around her eyes & it calms it down nicely.

about $36AUD in sydney for 50ml squeeze tube, i bought it in a starter pack though so it works out a tad cheaper.
to my surprise, this is not really a thick cream, it's more like a light, gel-cream consistency and doesn't feel oily, just a tad slippery and very light.
I don't find this to be a miracle product, but i do like that fact that it's very gentle, light and fragrance free.
i have combo sensitive skin, been suffering flakies around mouth and nose area, but any thicker or richer moisturiser (Creme de la mer, nivea soft creme, darphin arovita C) i use will make those areas breakout or give me blackheads and those above mentioned are not comfortable for use during daytime.
this absorbs quite quickly, i like to apply it while my face is still damp, or give a spritz of the avene thermal spritz before applying this.
it doesn't do miracles, but hydrates nicely. Not worth the pricetag though..

This is a really nice product. Whenever my face gets dry, itchy and irritated (happens a lot especially in winter in my native Skandinavia where the air is quite dry) this helps. It is really soothing and seems to calm down redness too. No particular scent to it. It has never seemed to block my pores, although I have to say I only use it occasionally.

My staple from now on :) I had an irritated skin caused by dermatological treatment, my skin is feeling tight, red, etc. After I applied this cream at night, the next morning my skin looks & feels a lot better. So I think I'll keep on buying this cream (but the packaging is so small :P )

I wish I could experienceed the rejuveniating effect as many of you did. Maybe I have the most difficult to please skin - acne prone, reddish patches. Not only did this product failed to alleviate my post-retina-A, benzoic peroxide reddish skin, but it also generated some white heads. I can sort of guess why after reading the ingredient list: A petroleum derivative similar to vaseline is listed as the second major ingredient.

In the end I have decided that this cream wasn't as great as I first thought. It did moisturise well enough but it didnt really sooth or calm the redness of my skin compared to the new products im usuing. I also think this cream contributed to my breakouts. I give this a very average rating

Excellent product for sensitive, reactive skins and not a bad price either. The smell does verge on the toilet cleaner but bearable and for the results I get, I will tolerate it! Will always repurchase for when I need to sort my skin out (which is not that infrequent...)

This stuff is so awesome. I was really sceptical at first, because the first ingredient is Avene's 'special' water and the second ingredient is mineral oil. But a moisturiser I had bought had totally dried my face out (or I had an allergic reaction to it), it felt as though there was a layer of dry, rough skin all over and I was quite red. I had tried all my other old moisturisers on my face trying to get rid of it to no avail. Someone told me that Avene made some products that could help me, so I went to the chemist and asked for a sample of this (very cute minature tube!). It was very calming and my face felt much less irritated in half a day. By the next day, my skin felt really soft and smooth, and I still had about a third of my sample left. I was so impressed that I went and bought their starter kit and soon I'm going to go back and purchase one of their hydrating creams. The recovery cream seems to sink into my skin better than any other moisturiser I've tried, and doesn't leave my skin shiny. It doesn't claim to have any oil controlling properties, but my face stayed fairly matte during the day, and this is a face that usually needs some MAC Blot Powder to control it. Now I use this cream once or twice a week before I go to sleep. Lovely stuff :)

Very moisturising for dehydrated skin. The area around my mouth has been peeling since I took accutance, no matter how much moizturizer i applu, the skin just keeps on peeling. After applying skin recovery skin for just one time, the peeling stopped......a good product!

It really works! It can cure my irritated skin! I bought almost a full line of the products which make my skin really improves a lots...less red, less acne, more moisturized...just when the moment I plan to purchase again...the problem is...I recognize most of the avene products (those I bought), including mask, gentle cleanser, all lotion and cream...all of them contain mineral oil as a second ingredient, which clogs pores, makes the skin aging and makes the skin worse....
do anyone notice of it?
what should I do then? Buy again or not??

This is a great cream for sensitive skin! No irritation or red blotchies, it actually calms my face down! It provides basic moisture, and is fantastic when paired with the instant soothing mask!!

Wow...my skin is on the road to recovery after my skin reactions to AHA and BHA. I think I might invest in the whole line. My skin has never felt better. My skin is not red anymore, after using this for 2 days. It's not sticky, goes on smoothly and I love the smell.

Fantastic, face saving cream! I had a horrible reaction to a product (which shall remain nameless..) and this was the only thing that does what is says on the pack. I kept piling it on every few hours and over a course of two days it made my skin heal dramatically. Now I always have a tube of this cream handy for all sorts of face disasters... If your looking to get your skin back to normal after a reaction, this is the ONLY cream you should use.

I've become such a big fan of Avene products. After having AHA Peel Treatments, my acne-prone skin tends to get dry, irritating, and feels very tight. This product, along with the Extremely Gentle Cleanser, has become my life saver. It gives my relief from the tightness and leaves my skin feeling so smooth...I'm Loving It!!!!!

very gentle,and moisturizing. I use whenever, my skin experiences any kind of irritation, or uncomfortness. I sometimes mix with regular moisurizer to add for soothing. The price is not bad .***UPDATE: May 12/2007 - so, I have been using this for a few years when my skin gets irritated which is very very often (flakey,ichy, little bit of eczema around hair line, irritated cheeks, occasional break outs), .... It's not working as good as it did...I am in my 3rd tube , so I am not a abuser. I still use it hoping the magical impact will come back someday. I have just taken 1 lippie off, cuz it doesn't worsen it either.

i think this brand has good products 4 sensitive skin. with this particular moisturiser, i will only use this when i get allergic to some products. it really calms ur skin, but hav2 reapply every 5-6 hrs to keep the calming effect. but this moisturiser doesnt soften or smoothen ur skin, so thats abit sad.
UPDATE 01/07/2003: i was having peeling nose after having a cold, so i went through my cosmetic bag trying desperately to find something hydrating, and found this. since there were only abit left i thought i will finish it. i put alot on b4 i went to sleep, and next day morning, i was surprised my peeling nose was no longer peeling. i felt SO hydrated and calm that i even went to buy another tube the next week. this cream has now become my house keeper cream since that night.
