I use this foundation a lot for when I do wedding make up and Formals/Proms. It has a natural and flawless finish but you will need to powder in areas where you tend to get oily. It's a fantastic foundation which lasts all day, has buildable coverage and is waterproof!

MAC Face and Body foundation has be around for a long time, but for the first time since it’s inception, MAC has finally permanently launched across all stores, meaning everyone can now try it out, not just those lucky enough to live beside a Pro store. Hate it when they do that!

Anyway, F&B is my go-to foundation in my kit; I use it on just about everybody and absolutely love it, so I thought I’d share my thoughts and techniques on how to get the most out of this product.

For starters, F&B has a sheer to medium, buildable coverage. It is a very fluid runny formula making it a little messy to work with. The finish is dewy, and tends to suit a normal to dry skin best. It’s a waterproof formula and has great staying power, as long as you’re not excessively oily. I always set it with powder, as it can look quite shiny by itself.

This stuff is probably the runniest foundation you will have ever used, it’s like water. But as soon as you start working it into the skin, the strangest thing starts to happen. The more friction or movement F&B gets, the thicker it gets, so the more you blend it in, the more coverage it has. A great tip I learned from my days of working on counter at MAC is to pour a little of the product into the palm of your hands, then vigorously rub your hands together. about 10 seconds you will feel the foundation begin to thicken and then you can either massage it on the face with your hands, or use a stiff buffing brush to blend it on. That way you avoid having the blend the hell out of you or your clients face.

Tools:
The best tools for applying it are you mitts! Without a doubt, your hands will apply this foundation best. You can perfect the finish of it by buffing the skin with a brush after you have applied it with your hands, but there is seriously no point trying to get an even finish with a brush alone, it’s just too damn runny.

Coverage:
Although the coverage is sheer to medium, really you can build this up to be full coverage, it’s so malleable and controllable you can get whatever level of coverage you want.

Finish:
The finish is dewy, and very smooth, skin looks pore free and perfect. The film formers in this product (the ingredients that make it waterproof) stop the foundation from sinking into pores and fine lines, and instead creates a second skin that sits perfectly smooth.

Skin Type:
Because of it’s very dewy finish though, this really isn’t the best foundation for oily skin, I myself can’t wear it, it goes very shiny very quickly, even with copious amounts of powder. It’s stunning on normal to dry skins though.

Body:
It will not cover tatoos or bruises or birthmarks! It’s a sheer finish, that you can build, but you wont get that level of coverage. It’s gorgeous to even out skin tone on the body, for example if you get very red and splotchy across your chest, or you have very pale translucent skin. It’s a waterproof formula, so it won’t streak if it gets wet, but it’s not 100% transfer resistant. I wouldn’t wear it with white!

Everything that I just shared has been with my experience and is my own opinion. This is an amazing product, but isnt right for everybody! MAC will give samples, so stop in and grab one... try before you buy! I hope you like it as much as i do. Nothing better than multi-demensional products that can be used in many dofferent ways. It makes you feel less guilty when you spend the money! :-)

I'm not sure how I feel about this foundation. I went into MAC looking for a lightweight foundation to wear during the hot summer months. The MA recommended this one to me and I loved the color match and how it looked after she applied it. I've been wearing it for the past couple days and feel like the dewy finish it gives makes my face look oily. I feel like this foundation would be better suited for the winter time when my skin is dry instead of sweaty.

So first off let me tell you guys what I personally was looking for in a product. I was looking for something that had a light coverage that left me a little dewy, something in a foundation that I have never gotten before, and wouldn't transfer onto my white work shirts. I thought about L'oreal Lumi foundation but worried it might still be too heavy. I've been using Revlon Colorstay mixed with my oil of Olay to create my own ' BB cream' so to speak but it still ended up mask-like and a type of full coverage finish. I have minor skin issues, a handful of acne marks, and redness but I'm at a phase in life where I don't care too much as long as I don't look like I caked on my makeup or uneven and blotchy.

BB creams, tinted moisturizers, they've all left me wanting. Till I went on Youtube to check out reviews for Clinique Mouister Surge on A Models Tips page and saw in the comments that someone suggest she try Mac Face and Body for a light weight look and feel. So I started searching that too, came here to look at reviews, and bit the bullet today. I was lucky enough to find out before I went that they repackaged the stuff so its in 1.7 oz instead of the 4 oz. The 1.7 is 27.00 and the 4 is 32.00 so it was a no brainer fort me to go with a bigger amount. Break it down you are getting a steal here if the the foundation works for you.

The lady in MAC didn't try it out on me, she just immediately told me I was N1 or if i wanted a tanner glow i could go with N2. I'm pretty light, but with a tiny tiny dash of pink and yellow in me. There's N and C where N means its going to have mostly yellow with a splash of pink, and C is mostly pink with a splash of yellow. I still ended up buying the N1, kind of stupidly in hindsight not knowing if it would work out or not, and then went to the MAC counter in Macy's to get a double check. Yup, N1 it was. I couldn't wait to get home to try this stuff.

Upon opening it I wasn't surprised at how watery it was due to research. I rubbed a small amount between my finger tips and dotted it upon areas where I usually had troubles. Then I rubbed it in. What I wasn't prepared for? How extremely yellow it looked on my skin. That and the fact that it kind of stuck to my skin as I buffed it out with my fingers. It has that texture of the l'oreal liquid stains in the classy gold tubes, if you've tried them you'll know what I mean. Its kind of a tacky feel which is just helping it become resistant on your skin. As I buffed it in more and more the yellow disappeared and became my skin tone. I needed three tiny, smaller than a dime, dabs to cover my whole face to a point that you couldn't see my acne marks. One newish scar, its kind of purple, wouldn't cover till I lightly applied two more layers. That is not a fault of the foundation but the fact that the mark is so pigmented.

It really set to a beautiful finish and wears wonderfully through the day. I'd say I have normal to dry skin and it just looks beautiful.

When I read such good reviews on makeupalley I was dying to try this foundation. The price, the value, and the foundation itself was pretty attractive for a light summer foundation and I thought this would work out for me, but it didn't. The smell is terrible, it makes me want to plug my nose every time I apply it (yuck, and I thought Studio Fix was bad), the coverage sucks, the staying power sucks (literally melts off in 3 hours). It's just a greasy, oily foundation and there's drugstore tinted moisturizers that offer better coverage and a nicer finish than this. People rave about the "dewey" finish but it just looks wet and yucky.

The value is good (almost twice the product for the same price as their other foundations) but most people use twice as much to get even what slightly resembles medium coverage. I'll be returning this and getting my money back.

There is no foundation that matches my complexion. That being said this one is a great blending aide. I have dark olive skin. My face doesnt match my body. As well as my face is at least 3 different tones. I have combination skin (dry nose, slightly oily cheeks and forehead)
I apply with studio fix then set with a darker shade of studio careblend
f&b doesn't last that long, i am constantly retouching (which results in an uneven cakey look) and gives me a very washed out look as it fades but for about 4 hrs it looks absolutely amazing.
will try with a primer (currently only using moisturizer) and spray finishing agent and see if its any better.

Yes this is a sheer foundation, build-able to a sheer medium. Great for those that have mostly clear skin to begin with and just wants to even it out. It will not cover any blemishes so bust out your concealer with this foundation. I have never used tinted moisturize so I cant say it comparable but some have mentioned its like a tinted moisturizer

I do agree this is not for oily skin but it might work out considering that this is more of a satin finish and I set it with powder. I used to have oily skin, but now I feel as though I have normal skin (I still classify myself to have oily skin tho when I purchase products) I moisturize well (night&day moisturize is argan oil) and I think that prevents the overproduction of oil, in my case anyways.

LOVE, that it looks so natural (like skin but better) and that is lightweight which is perfect for the summer. Its great for that everyday look. PLUS you get so much product 4oz - $35.

Ok..I do think it is long wearing, Ive had it on for 7 hrs now and my face still looks evened out and not shiny. Water-resistant, hmmm I dont know about that, I have yet to test that.

The foundation I find is easy to blend compared to my Nars sheer matte. It has a positively shocking smell - sweet. Not that industrial-plastic make up smell. I had no issue with it oxidizing.
Is it my HG? Maybe not but time will tell.

Looks very natural. Doesn't cover up redness fully but I'd rather have some redness and look natural then to have none and look like I'm wearing make up.

I went to the MAC counter looking for a gift and ended up buying myself a new foundation as well. After being disappointed with a couple of foundations lately, I decided go give MAC another try. I used to be obsessed with the HyperReal foundation that has since been discontinued so I figured that any/most MAC foundations were a safe bet for my super sensitive skin.

The MUA tested out the F&B foundation on my skin and I loved the subtle glow that it gave me. It has a really nice texture and felt so lightweight on my skin that I bought a bottle.

The color (C1) matched my skin tone beautifully and I was so excited to have found such a great new foundation.

Two days later, I woke up with a very itchy, bumpy rash all over my face, neck, and chest. Apparently my skin hates this foundation which really sucks since I really loved the way it looked and felt. Now, I'll have to soothe my very irritated skin for the next week! Ugh, such a PAIN.

Before any of you sensitive skin ladies give this a try, test it out on a small spot first! I'd hate for someone else to go through this :(

Sorry MAC but you've lost my faith in your face products...

For me this is a big no no. I have combination to normal skin and its been some time now that i've been in search for my HG. I've tried Lancome Teint Miracle (not bad but I was suggested the wrong shade) EL Invisible Teint (so far the best) and Wow Flawless from Benefit (ok but not exactly happy with my Honey shade). So there I go and read the lovely reviews of Mac Face and Body along with that of a famous makeup artist I adore and I head to the Mac counter. The unbelievably impolite Mua handed me a C2 and there I go.

Comments: the shade is yellow, very yellow and after days I understood why I just wasn't feeling right. I looked pale and sick. The texture is somewhat in between dewy and non, and it has turned out terrible for my combination skin as it's just not suit for withholding any kind of oiliness. I've ended out powdering my nose every 45 minutes!

Maybe this is good for photo shooting or for skins far away from being oily, but for me this product has unfortunately turned out to be a waist of money. Too bad because I love MAC and its products!

If you have moderate to severe hyperpigmentation, blemishes, or scarring and you want to rely on your foundation to cover those (rather than concealer), this is NOT the foundation for you.

If you are very oily or very dry, I don't think this is the right foundation for you either.

This foundation works if you have quite mild hyperpigmentation and need something that just generally evens out your skin. I think it works for normal to combo skin (I have slightly oily t zone and dry patches).

The bottle- is a plastic squeezy bottle. Plain and simple. The amount of foundation you get for the money is unreal, and it'll last ages. It takes me about a eighth of a teaspoon on a bad day and less on a good one to get the coverage I want.

The scent- is mild, inoffensive, and goes away.

The texture and application- is very cool. It's a very thin, watery texture and needs a good shake before dispensing for application. The texture reminds me a bit of the cornstarch and water experiment that simulates how magma works. It feels thin when first applied and then, as you work it in, it seizes up for a moment and then becomes workable again. I've found that it works best going by section and applied in thin layers. It needs some working in, but I haven't had any issues with streaking unless I try to apply too much at a time. I apply this over my sunscreen (Loreal Sublime SPF 50) and I use my fingers for application.

I have discovered that skin prep is the key to this working well. If I use an especially oily moisturizer or sunscreen, or use too much of those products before I apply this or don't wait for them to absorb into my skin, this foundation *will* slide right off my face. Also, ime, it generally doesn't play well with silicone based primers. If your life is not complete without a primer I've found that (for normal to combo and dry to normal) both the Korres primers work, and if you're a bit on the oily side, the black opal invisible oil blocking primer works.

Afterwords I typically use: a concealer like the light reflective undereye from Neutrogena, and Vichy Dermablend for any blemishes, a creme highlighter like elf, Benefit, or Becca, liquid stain or creme blush like MUFE HD, elf's dupe of said, benefit, or tarte, a long wearing creme eye makeup like Maybelline's color tattoo, and a long wearing mascara. My 'face' looks fresh and natural and lasts for hours and hours.

The finish- looks like natural skin. It's not especially shiny or matte. This has no pore refining/diminishing properties that I've noticed. If skin texture is an issue for you, this isn't going to do much to help you out. It looks like *my* skin, just more even.

The coverage- is very light. it will help even out some minor variations in skin tone, but it's not going to cover much of anything. It layers well and slightly more coverage is possible with a second thin layer, but still, nothing even moderate is going to be covered here.

The wear- This wears for 7-8 hours before I need to go over my t-zone again to even it out. I don't use powder or blot papers because I can't usually be bothered to have them with me. The foundation removes well with a double cleanse. It claims to be water resistant, but I've not had the chance to try that out. I have done some serious sweating with this makeup on and it doesn't move or transfer for me.

The color- I am a C2 in this foundation and it matches me very well. I'm generally a NC 20-25 in Mac foundations. I think that the coverage is sheer enough that if you match your undertone (either yellow/pink or pink/yellow) you could probably go one shade lighter or darker than needed in this foundation and it wouldn't really matter.

A word about sunscreen- This does not have an SPF listed. I don't understand why this is an issue for some of you. 1. This foundation is made to be photographed, naturally it doesn't have an (appreciable) spf in it, so it won't 'flashback'. 2. Why would you rely on the sunscreen in your foundation to protect your skin? Hopefully nobody applies the amount of foundation needed for sun protection, because ick and/or gross. If you want sun protection, use a separate SPF product before you put your makeup on.

Overall-I was looking for a light coverage natural looking (similar to TM) foundation that was also long wearing. This has the coverage I wanted and wears well on me. Definite repurchase.

HOlY GRAIL foundation. Foundation is meant to even skin tone not wash it out and this evens out my skin tone perfectly. I love how natural the coverage is and it really stays put! I have dry patches and this helps moisturize those spots so they aren't obvious. I also get a oily nose and this keeps put with that as well. Great, amazing....I love this foundation!

This is an ultra sheer foundation that in my opinion isn't very buildable. This "foundation" would be great for those who have flaw free skin or simply want the "coverage" of a tinted moisturizer. It has a natural finish and is long wearing. This product has minimal transfer and is good for combo/oily skin types. The lighest shade available to me is N1 and it was still too dark. :(

I tried this foundation about a year ago and didn't like it. I felt like the coverage wasn't what I wanted and threw it in a drawer. After trying multiple highend/drugstore tinted moisturizers, bb creams, and foundations I was ready to give up. My skin is dry, sensitive, acne prone, and pale yellow which makes it difficult to find something that can work for me. I was cleaning out my makeup drawer and rediscovered my Face and Body in C1. I LOVE this foundation. I use an oil free moisturizer, since the foundation is water based, and apply two-three layers of base then set with a very light dusting of Mac Mineral Skinfinsh in Light. The first layer I apply with my fingers and any additional layers I buff on with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush.The result is medium coverage, natural, glowy skin. There is no settling in my pores or clinging to dry patches. I know this process may sound lengthy but I've got it down to no more time than applying other foundations. If you have serious skin concerns, this won't be for you. I do get occasional breakouts and my under eye circles are quite dark. I use my NYX concealer/Bobbi Brown corrector for any problem areas I am having. Several bloggers made up charts to show how inexpensive this foundation is. If you compare price per ounce, this base is cheaper than most drugstore ones. I think this is a great lightweight foundation and worth a try.I think application is key to get the results you want. Don't give up if you aren't crazy about it at first, read some blogs or watch some youtube videos on how other people apply it.

**Tarte's brightening water based primer works great with this foundation! The foundation lasts longer and has a more natural finish

I really mostly got this to use on any minor body blemishes as it is to sheer and minimal coverage for my liking. The colour match is quite good, but personally I need more coverage then this. Would better suit someone wanting a very sheer finish with good skin. Consistency was also a bit thin.

I am in that funny space of nc50/nw45 and I always have issues finding a color that suits me. Basically I am orange and a straight nc50 looks ashy/sickly on me and an nw45 looks like I have a fever. This is where face and body comes in. I got n9 and I actually use in with my studio fix nc50 and my elf tinted moisturizer in almond because it really helps to warm them up a bit. I can wear n9 on its own but If I do I have to use my MSFN in dark to compensate for the additional warmth. I err on the oily side so wearing this as my sole foundation is a rare occurrence. Also I really can't stand the cap. It got really messy for me. I will probably albeit somewhat reluctantly buy it again because on its own, I could care less about it but in conjunction with other foundations it's actually really nice.

Mac Face & Body should be a foundation that I don't like, and that's the reason I kept away from purchasing it for so long. However, I wanted to try out a lighter base for spring/summer so purchased this in the N1 shade. This was a tad light for me so I moved to the shade N2 which is a much better match for my skin tone. But I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by this foundation. Granted it would be absolutely perfect for someone with great skin.....however I have redness, a few blemishes and very dark circles. BUT, I can still make it work and Iove using this just to even out my skin tone if I'm popping to the shops, or even if I just want a light foundation to wear indoors. It is quite a runny liquid foundation and is very sheer, and for me personally I need to use two or three layers to get it to adequately cover my redness. If you are looking for medium to full coverage this is not for you, but it can be built up to a medium finish. I like to apply one layer, let it dry and them pay on a second layer, the patting motion helps to get a bit more coverage on the areas if the face that need it. Staying power is good and of course I've got to mention the value for money - the 120ml bottle is so much better value than the 50ml bottle and there's only $6 in the difference. I will continue to use f&b on days when I just want a little coverage, however Mac Studio Sculpt remains my favourite foundation.

No better deal makeup-wise. You get a LOT of product for 30 bucks and the foundation itself looks amazing on anyone.

I have very oily skin but I set this with my urban decay deslick powder and it lasts a good 4-5 hours before I have to blot again. I put the foundation on and then let it dry for a couple of minutes while I curl my eyelashes and eyeliner and such and then I do another layer to achieve medium coverage.

I had to switch to this recently after some horrible experiences with cyclopentasiloxane, the ingredient that covers your pores with silicone to achieve that flawless finish we all adore. My skin is veeeeeery acne-prone and I have a lot of hyperpigmentation not to mention my hormones are out of whack so there's nothing I can do to stop the acne. This doesn't break me out and it covers well enough to cover all the redness which is basically all I need. OH and there's no SPF in it which is another huge plus because my sensitive ass grill also hates spf.

I have (had) super dry and (later in the day) super oily, acne prone skin.

I was working with a flakey red face pretty much every morning. To wash my face I only use the OCM, (Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Castor Oil, and some essential oils) My skin has cleared up A LOT since switching to the OCM a month ago, but I still had some break out issues. I fair skinned, but tan very easily to a warmer tone. I stopped tanning 8 months ago, and decided to embrace my pale skin. The only problem is, the whiter my skin gets, the more apparent my facial flaws are. Redness, breakouts taking weeks to fade away, a few light brown freckles, just overall splotchy looking skin. Again, my OCM has done wonders for my complexion, but I couldn't get rid of the flakes an small steady amounts of breakouts. I had to finally attribute to my previous foundation, MUFE in 115 Ivory.

Before switching to F&B
I had just started using the Beauty Blender Sponge during application. Even with the beauty blender making my foundation application look flawless, my MUFE still seemed to make the flakes on my (very pre-moisturized) skin appear out of no where.
In the past, I've literally taken off my foundation RIGHT after putting it on, just to lightly exfoliate those flakes away, and try again. :/ (even though I know I shouldn't exfoliate and apply makeup directly after) I could NOT walk out of the house knowing flakes were visible. I've even done the tweezer method too, tediously pulling the little flakes away :/

So anyways, I decided to start looking for a water based foundation, and decided F&B had enough good reviews to try out. I ordered N1, and when I received it, I was upset at the shade. I thought it was too dark when I applied some to my wrist. So, I went to Walgreens and got a much lighter shade (W1) of L'oreal true match (it's also water-based) so I could mix my own shade. BUT, it turns out that I didn't even need it, the N1 turned out to be the perfect shade! I've read in a few reviews that it looks dark, but dries a little lighter.

Either way, my first time, I put on 2 light layers of F&B and was so pleased at the results. My face had NO FLAKES. So I took my kabuki brush and lightly tapped some bare-minerals to set my foundation. I didn't want to add too much powder, because I thought that F&B did such a good job all by itself. BAD IDEA. If you have oily skin, try putting on a lighter application of your F&B, just to even out your skin tone, then make sure you REALLY set this foundation, otherwise you will look like a grease ball in less than an hour. (not the runny-makeup separating-grease look, just shiney)

I was pretty upset, assuming I would have to stop using my F&B because of the greasy look it gave a few hours into the day.(I live in Houston, so the humidity doesn't help)
BUT I gave it a few more shots with a different application technique.
The trick is, LIGHT application of F&B, concealer, and a nice even layer of powder. (F&B isn't good for oily girls if you feel the need to put more than 3 layers.) I blot my T zone once in the middle of my day, but let me tell you, I would rather blot 3 times a day, than stare at little flakes on my face all day.

My skin HAS NOT broken out, and my skin is much more moisturized, no more dry patches! I also used my skindinavia setting spray before and after applying F&B and it makes a HUGE difference for oily skin, somehow convincing my pores to chill out on the oil production through out the day.

I love F&B and I will def. be buying again. If you don't go get matched at MAC, and you order a shade too dark or light, I suggest getting the L'oreal true match shade to mix, instead of buying another bottle of F&B.
(you have to use another water-based product, if you don't, you'll run the risk of your mix separating on your face mid day...gross -_- I learned that lesson a long time ago)

I use my beauty blender spong to put on one light layer of just N1, and then mix a TINY bit of my true match, with 2 drops of N1, and use that as a highlighter, under my eyes, under my cheekbones(to make my blush application minimal), and the center of my face. So all in all 2 light layers of liquid foundation on my skin and a few taps of powder.
(I've previously been scared of my powder because it only highlighted flakes that the MUFE would make magically appear, so I only used it to lightly set.)
