To me it's like Light Blue with a dash of orange juice. Sweet, powdery, clean. I like it. I would not buy. But I would use it if I got it as a gift.

Well, probably I will not be popular saying this, but as much as I appreciate other Montale scents, I did not like this one.
The first time I sniffed it was on one "mouillette" directly in the store, and, on the paper, it was great!
I love summer scents, and citrusy notes in general.
So I tried it and it seemed to me fresh, with a blast of mediterranean herbs (basic, oregano)... but I was not 100% sure and the staying power was very short, so I wanted to try it for a longer time:
For that reason, I swapped for a decant of Soleil de Capri. And that's where my disappointment began!
On my skin this is totally masculine, and I really do not get why it is so different from the test I had in the store. (maybe a bad decant ot just my skin's chemistry?).
I have been using it several times but the result is the same: a little citrus at the beginning, some herbs, and then spices, an obvious musk (white) and this tobacco, smokey note that I hate. It is not fresh, not sunny at all, but rather what I would expect a man to wear in winter close to a fireplace. Indeed it is very smokey to my nose and very masculine.
Nothing that I would associate with Capri, at any rate!!
Luckily the staying power is low, so it quickly evaporates. Better, as I really do not like it.

This reminds me of D&G's Light Blue except SdC is better.
I'm not keen on these type of scents. It reminds me of green herbs, rosemary and the sea.

This fragrance makes me reminiscent of being a very young girl and stepping for the first time into a Body Shop and being overwhelmed by the fragrant smell of orange soaps, of the famous "White Musk" and some undistinguished herbs and falling so madly in love with all those odours that I would never leave that place.
Reading at the notes of this fragrance, I understand they are close to that special BS mix that captured me: kumquat (a small orange whose peel is a bit sweeter that the orange one), pink grapefruit (without the bitter part), musk (to make it more skin-like), white flowers (to add light) and mediterranean herbs (sage, basil, thyme), to give it some, well, spice (and make it masculine, too).
This is a special and original summer fragrance. I can't see any relation to Capri landscape and smells, except for the herbs, maybe, anyway, enjoy it.
Poor lasting power on me.

I absolutely adore Soleil de Capri! This was my first Montale scent and I purchased unsniffed based on reviews and if the scent matched the name, I knew I would love it! To me, it smells like an amazingly beautiful, deeper, more complex Les Enfants du Soleil (now Coeur de Vahine by CSP) mixed with a little Chantecaille Frangipane. But it is something so original. The only reason I compare it to those scents is because I've layered those two before and have discovered something beautiful that has a hint of SdC - but please do not misunderstand - SdC is truly in a class of its own. I love its lasting power as well. I anticipate this will become an HG for me, absolutely.

I must agree with all the other reviews. This is sunshine in a bottle. And I don't find it a bit masculine. It's all girly to me. Love it. When you need a pick me up fragrance this is it. It's just Fab.
EDIT: I took this down one lippie. way to sweet for me. Still a nice fragrance just way to much for me and my nose. Once in a while good to wear.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. THIS is what a beach vacation should smell like: rind from your fresh squeezed juice during a leisurely breakfast, sun-warmed salty skin, herbs and spices wafting down from the hills above Capri. Anyone who thinks summer vacation has to smell like coppertone and umbrella drinks needs to try this. Full-bottle worthy.

This is a bright, sweet orange scent on a base of musk, with a tiny bit of spice that's similar to the subtle "oriental" accord in Crystal Flowers. It feels rounder, fuller, and less sharp than most citrus scents. The downside for me is that it veers very close to the smell of orange Lifesavers and I wish it had a bit of cedar or something to temper the sweetness. But it's a very uplifting scent on its own and I'm guessing it would layer beautifully with earthy/woody scents.

Yes, yes, yes! This is brilliant on me. The white musk and the citrus sparkle on my skin. Is it me or do I detect a smart pine note at first spritz? It is bottle worthy even at the steep price and give its disappointing lasting powers. I detect some evergreen notes but these are not mentioned in the description, anyway: Wonderful stuff. You can try a sample and see if you feel the same. I would prefer that this stick around longer as the dry down is fairly mundane but for a short time you can feel like the Ice Queen at court.
Afterglow: Have tried this several times and finally decided it smells very similar to Crabtree & E.'s Noel fragrance oil supposedly for light bulbs (which is a lot cheaper and you can use on yourself, as well).

I am not a citrus fan as those scents tend to turn sour on me. I am not a white flowers - flowers in general - fan either. But this one works on me and ROCKS! This is probably going to become my day summer time scent. Like many other reviewers, I think that what makes it so interesting and good is the white musk and spice base that brings it "closer to the skin". A must-try if , like me, you are not into that kind of scents and want to change your mind.

Okay, I admit. I got it unsniffed. Never smelled it before. Huge risk. Yes, I know.
I wanted to finally add the first citrus scent to my collection and the reviews were so good.
My! Everyone was right. Soleil de Capri is a FABULOUS scent!
The first time I sprayed it on my skin I felt a little disappointed.
It was too strong, too aggressive, too rich, too powerful, too everything.
But just like every other Montale scent - you just gotta wait a bit.
The initial blast fades and underneath it hides a gorgeous fresh skin scent.
I know it is considered a citrus scent, but this is, by all means - not a usual one.
I smell juicy citrus peel, with a crisp fresh herbal wave running through it. To me SdC is a very happy scent! It sinks beautifully into my skin and makes it smell so nice without screaming 'perfume!'.
I am taking one lippie off because I don't like the metal bottle. It may be cute to some, but to me perfume should come in a nice heavy glass bottle that would hold its content with pride.

Woah. Just woah. Maybe my tastes are changing yet again because even with my love of smoky, deep, earthy and spicy scents, my heart has found room for this. I sampled this for the first time right before heading to bed and it literally stopped me dead in my tracks. So mouth-wateringly fresh, fruity and sunny. But to balance the initial blast of fruit, there is a heart of Meditteranean spices. This is so full, rich and perfectly balanced between the lighthearted, sun-drenched, carefree feeling I remember from the summers of my youth and the sensuous, passionate and decadent summer days of my adulthood. I can't decide whether I feel like a giggling child or a sexy, demure woman while wearing this. This even stirred my husband from his slumber as I nestled into bed next to him that night. "I'm going to fall asleep with my nose on your arm," he said. And when he did, I immediately pulled my arm back, nuzzled my nose up to it and let myself slip into the most enchanted sleep.

I LOVE this scent. It's the second Montale I've tried, and I'm beginning to wonder if they can, as a fragrance house, do anything wrong... This is my perfect, fresh, super fresh, summery, fresh, citrusy fresh warm weather scent. It's gorgeous. It is also, unfortunately, fleeting. And stays close to the skin which makes me sad because 1.) I look crazy walking around sniffing my wrists obsessively and 2.) it smells so fantastic I really want to share! Alas, such is the nature of such a light fragrance, I suppose. Either way, it's definitely full bottle worthy. I'ts precisely the type of summer fragrance which conjures the image of a really lovely male specimen standing behind you, getting his nose in close to your neck and thinking that you just smell really wonderful -- which is exactly how I feel about Montale Black Oud and which is, subsequently, why I am tending to love this house so much. Their fragrances seem to do a really fantastic job making me smell good, rather than making me smell LIKE something.

This is one of my favorite citrus scents. It is a wonderful grapefruit fragrance. Natural-smelling citrus, perfect and juicy. I can imagine the oil bursting into the air from the peelings of the opened fruit. Don't expect hours of strong projection, just enjoy it with all your heart while it lasts. I don't smell the floral and spice notes--but they do a teriffic job supporting the citrus. Beautiful. Notes: citrus, grapefruit, kumquat, white flowers, white musk, Mediterranean spices.

Despite of it's label as a masculine fragrance on Montale's site, this scent is definite unisex. It is flowery, yet wrapping, embracing summer, sunshine and warmth. It is not for balancing hot weather with some cooling ingredients, but rather for going with the flow, being there and experiencing it. My fondest memory of wearing Soleil de Capri belongs to a day when I was stressed and tired by the amount of things to be done. I went to a little park, found a fallen tree in a sunny spot and just stretched there, giving myself to the blooms of that spring day, timid sun and fresh greens of the branches looking at me from above. It is a perfect scent of summer, late spring and early fall: happy, quiet, longlasting and meditative. It is very much Full Bottle Worthy.

Soleil de Capri seemed to me a Mediterranean citrus, a sibling of JM Lime
Basil Mandarin. I swear there must be basil in this, which I don't wear well anymore. Soleil de Capri would be a great scent on a man, handsome on a woman.

This is a fabulous, sunny, perfect-for-summer and sunshine, fragrance... Now it my be just me but there is something there that slightly reminds me of D&G Light Blue... not as powdery, or musky as Light Blue but there is a certain crispness and sweet breeziness in Soleil de Capri that's very reminiscent of it to me... I do love both of these scents... both work awesome with my chemistry!

I do agree, it's a sunshine in a bottle. I don't usually like crispy citrusy scents, they are always too sharp on me. But this one is not at all sharp, it's warm and round, great, light but not silly. I like to play tennis while wearing it:) it's such an optimistic fragrance! It gives me energy to win. Great summer scent, perfect for almost any occasion. The only true orange scent I've found so far.
