Bought this having been lured by the darker shade, which makes an excellent standalone subtle, but buildable, summery-shimmery aquamarine shade.

Initially, when I looked and searched this eyeshadow duo I was in love. But it is really hard to use, and the color is hard to show up, especially the lighter shade. I would recommend using a stickier base such as a Mac paint pot to help the colors show, and use a lot of product :(. I also had to add MAC's bottle green to add some depth when I used this eyeshadow. I'm happy to have Cleo, but I don't think I would repurchase because it cost me an expensive 39$ in Canada.

love, love, LOVE NARS Cleo! I've had this forEVER and can't believe I haven't reviewed this one yet!

While I can't say I'm hugely fond of the lighter aqua in this duo, the darker shade makes this worth owning. On my brown eyes, the darker shade is just striking and really makes my eyes pop big time! It's dark enough to really add a sultry look, but isn't so dark that it goes on looking overly blackened. It's deep, but still maintains that gorgeous smokey deep blue/green. The pigmentation is fantastic on both shades, I think was makes the lighter shade unappealing for me is that for lighter "wash" shades, I prefer shimmer, and the lighter shade feels chalky and just looks flat to me. The darker teal though is just absolutely fabulous! It's like Thunderball with shimmer. . Gorgeous and one of my most used shadows of all time. Total love!

I love the darker shade in this duo. The teal really make my blue/blue-green eyes pop. I do not care so much for the lighter shade, hence the lower rating. I have not managed to get it look good - comes on chalky and makes me look like I am preparing for drag rather than anything else. Maybe it is my skintone, maybe wrong technique (I have seen it look lovely on others).

So I finally caves and got this duo after eyeing it for a few months. I held back bc I thought I wouldn't use it much; considering the price, I'd want to use it a lot to get my money's worth. It was meh when I put it on and even layered it so I moved on. But then I came back bc I couldn't stop thinking about it. I used the Nars eyeshadow base and fell absolutely in love! I then tried it with udpp, and loved it too but not as much as with the Nars e/s base. I bought the duo but not the base so I think I'm going to go back and get the base later if I'm not as satisfied with my udpp when I play with it.

A+. The darker steel blue color has aqua sparkles in it, making it one of the most unique colors I've ever seen. The color payoff is amazing too- you can actually see the aqua flecks in it when applied. It doesn't overwhelm the steel blue either. When the left lighter eyeshadow is applied, it comes off as a white with a cool blue undertone, also with aqua sparkles! Cleo is absolutely perfect for making a dramatic blue eyeshadow look.

I am a sucker for everything and anything NARS, and I would recommend this duo to anybody. The color is 'mermaid-ish'. The light seafoam looks a little stripperish in the pan, however on my eyes it looks subtle and classy. I adore the dark, almost black seafoam as an alternative to the boring basic black or gray smokey eye. This is a really unique duo, and the colors blend easily and have no fallout. I can apply them at 9 am, and in the evening my eyeshadow will still look perfect (and I never touch up!). This looks really good paired with Laura Mercier Black Turquoise eye liner also.

I bought this e/s for the dark color even though i did not fall for the light shade.but when i put it on dark shade became totally dark grey and light shade became a bit chalky. i applied some paint pot from MAC as a base, this improved the colors only a bit.that's why i took 2 lippies off.not a bad duo but i could not get the rich emerald color.i advise everyone to have an application at the store before buying.

NARS stood out again with its eyeshadow duo. This is a perfect combination of a light sea green and a sparkly dark deep green. The shadows are highly pigmented, lasts long, and blends smoothly. The dark green is great for lining the eyes and not too stark on fair skin. The sea green is great for brown eyes and really highlights the entire effect. I would definitely buy again. Love the color they chose.

Almost had retail remorse over this duo. I bought it and loved looking at it and then thought, OMG, how do I wear this. It is gorgeous. I have green-blue eyes (more blue if that makes sense) and the teal colour makes them pop. If you have a deep green, deep blue or brown / black eyes, I think this would look great. Not sure for the very pale eyed gals out there if this would work.
I used to wear the lighter shade as a wash over the lid and the darker in the crease, until Julio (the mega NARS international artist) did the dark all over the lid and the lighter as a highlight. It blew me away and I received stares and compliments and felt a million bucks. Huge rave.

OK, so I'm not a pale/pastel e/s kind of person, so I can't comment on that part of the duo. But the teal is my HG of blue-green eyeshadows! I love peacocky colors, but they usually look too intense on my eyes-- I don't feel comfortable wearing them, even for going out. Cleo is different. It's like a smoky color with teal microglitter. Iridescent, but subtly so.
Take note: you need to wear a color under the teal to make it show up properly (I noticed a couple other people mentioning this in their reviews too). I wear NARS Ondine (a plummy gold shimmer) underneath and for some reason that makes the green really pop. If you want just a smoky gray-green color, then wear alone.

A very pretty shimmery duo. Both colors look gorgey alone and they look great together. One color is a shimmery seafoam green that shows up on the skin as a shimmer, but can be builded to be more colorful. Although I like is as just a shimmer because I'm not into strong pastel eyeshadows, especially blues. The other color is a very nice shimmery dark teal it shows up beautifully, especially over eyeliner or a cream shadow. They both look nice worn with a darker brown color. When I wear the darker color with a shimmery brown something magical happens. Normally I don't go for duos or palletes because there is always a color I barely use so it doesn't seem worth it. But this is worth it, both colors are so pretty. (Even though I'll admit I use the darker color more..)

I dont understand why this duo is not getting a higher rating here cos I absolutely LOVE it!!!!!!

It has a lovely teal colour combined with one of the prettiest sky blue shadows I have ever come across (and I wear eye shadow since 18, and that says something!)

I just simply wear the dark teal colour on my eye crease and the light blue colour as a highlighter and viola... my brown eyes just sparkles!

If you are Asian, around NC20, do try it!! Cleo has replaced Habanera as my favourite Nars Duo!

This color combination looks fabulous on me with my brown eyes. However, the vivid green did not have much staying power because of my excessively oily eyelids. I must try it again with a primer.

If I ever run out will buy it but as it is more for going out, I think it will last a while. Gorgeous colours for us brown-eyed girls and is color without being bright and smoky without being overwhelming...very unique.

This was definitely NOT a good color duo for me. The darker color was nice to line with (or apply over my black eyeliner to add a hint of pretty blue to it), but the lighter color made me look like a cross between a mermaid and a wannabe Asian pop star from the '90s. It was just bad. I couldn't justify keeping this for the occasional use of the darker color, so I swapped it away.

For the record, the color payoff of this duo was good, but too bad the colors just weren't versatile enough.

For reference, I am of Asian descent, NC25/Stila 30 Watts with dark hair and eyes.

Hmm. . . Disappointing. When I saw this duo I thought, "Wow! HG!" The colors are SO beautiful and they're even colors that look good on my skin, but the overall quality of the shadow is not so good. The first time I tried to wear it, I blended the pale and light shades and ended up looking like Baby Jane. (And if you're not familiar- look that up on IMDB and you'll see what I mean.) Plus, I agree with other reviewers that NARS black based shimmer shadows don't look good without some sort of cream base- they lose their color and turn into a muddy gray with very little sparkle. Put on wet, the dark shadow looked good and I've had some success with using the pale shadow as a highlighter only and making sure I apply it very lightly. Because of the colors though, I plan to continue experimenting. Anyone who's figured out how to make this duo work well, please drop me an e-mail.

Cleo was one of my ongoing NARS lemmings that was finally quashed thanks to a lovely MUAer. I had swapped/sold most of my NARS eye shadow duos that weren’t “neutrals” because I am finding that NARS eye shadows are quite inconsistent in quality and when it comes to colorful, vibrant shades. However, Cleo just always seemed so vibrant and smooth every time I swatched it at Sephora so I couldn’t help but long for it. The NARS website describes the shades as shimmering sea foam and rich teal. The rich teal happens to be gorgeous! It’s almost like a black infused with beautiful dark teal microglitter. Both of these colors are about medium pigmented and apply pretty evenly. For some reason, when applied, this duo basically looks like a black and white smoky look upon me. No bother, I happen to love the smoky-eyed look! At any rate this is not my favorite NARS duo by any means, but it’s definitely one of the better ones and I plan on keeping this duo for a good awhile. The staying power is ehhh, but greatly prolonged by my trust Urban Decay Primer Potion.
