For the life of me I can't figure out why this colour didn't achieve the status that other colours like Moth Brown and Smoke & Diamonds achieved (both gorgeous I might add). Clue is a perfect greyed brown (put it next to brown and it looks grey, and put it next to a colour like silver ring and it looks brown). It also has a slight purply-lavender hue. It's not very dark, and makes a great day colour. I find that I can use it as a crease colour or an all over lid colour and still look daytime appropriate. It has a lovely sheen and no glitter. One of my most used and favourite colours by far!

I love this color! I wear it almost everyday, its so versatile. I have been wearing it to work with just a highlighter and mascara, and it really makes my eyes pop! And for going out at night, I have been combining it with some MAC Trax or Memoribila to make a shimmery, purple-ish smokey eye. I am so bummed that this was a limited edition color, cause it is kinda hard to find now. They should totally bring it back!! Been surfing ebay, and did find some listed as low as $7 so I am pretty excited and hoping to get some soon!

Love this colour as it's similar to Satin Taupe. Not a dupe, but more of a relative or family member. Really versatile shade that I love experimenting and trialling new makeup looks with. On my skin it shows up as a gray with flecks of brown and purple. Love wearing it on the lid or on the crease. Works well for both neutral daytime looks and more dramatic going out looks. The purple and brown tones in this shadow really make my green eyes pop. My only issue with this shadow is I find it sheer, but buildable with a good base and some patience.

This is a LE product from MAC and it's supposed to be a taupe. It's in the likes of shades like smoke and diamonds eyeshadow and sweet sienna pigment. Personally, I find clue to be more wearable for my NC20 skin than smoke and diamonds and sweet diamond. It might be because it has a slight touch of brown in it. Clue looks great with pinks, blues and purples but I can see it going well with a cooler shade of green as well. The only gripe I have with this product is its texture, it's alot harder than smoke and diamonds (which is a starflash texture) and needs a good base to make it show.

If i weren't looking at the photo of this on MUA and comparing ti to the shadow I have, I would swear I must be reviewing soemthing differemt.

Taupe? Brown? Gray? Silver? WHERE????

Ok so on my NC 44/45 skin this is silvery-purple. Def purple hint to it. On my eyes it is super sheer and really have to build it with a base. Its prett and blends nicely with browns but very very similar to a drugstore one-forget the name now but will edit it in later.

Lasting power on this is nill. You really have to pack it on for color to show and even with a paintpot beneath doesnt stick. Surprising because usually MAC shadows really work on my oil lids.

Versatile though so I will give it 4 lippies.

This eyeshadow is similar to Smoke& Diamonds by Mac, Diamond Lil by Stilla and Sweet Sienna pigment by Mac.I have to say though it is diffrent enough to buy, unfortunatley it was limited edition from the Originals Collection which is no longer available, so sad, its such a everyday color, beautiful taupe color.

I am so glad I got this, this is a must-have in my opinion (especially if you are into taupe/greys). This to me is a mix between Smoke and Diamonds and Satin Taupe but it is very unique. My pet name for it is Trenchcoat Taupe. It's for the daytime, it's for the nighttime, it's for everytime. As you can see, this is my favorite eyeshadow. Satin Taupe on lid, Clue on crease, and Vex on inner corners...so gorgeous! If you get your hands on this and you are a taupe fiend, don't hesitate to get this.

I would take this over Smoke & Diamonds any day. I'm surprised more people aren't going crazy for this.

I had no idea this was LE, I recently swapped for it. It was on a whim as I am trying to clear out some products and was I ever pleasantly surprised when I opened this. I LOVE this color! It is a grey/taupe, but not a stand-out color like satin taupe, its "sandier" if you will. For reference I am NW25ish.

For any of you worried about locating this in the future, it has a striking resemblance to NARS ashes to ashes. The MAC is a little more purple, but its very slight. Check out that shade at the counter too.
EDIT..........After using the NARS a little more, the color payoff is not the same, the MAC is actually more pigmented and I prefer it to the ashes to ashes

I'm surprised this didn't cause a taupe frenzy the way smoke and diamonds did. It's a gorgeous and unique gray/taupe color. Something about it is understated and elegant. Pigmentation and texture are great. Of course it was LE like most great MAC e/s, but I would repurchase if MAC releases it with a future collection.

I hate it when MAC releases great eye shadows and make them limited edition! Clue is one of my favorite colors to use for smoky eyes. This color is very versatile. It can become neutral or dramatic depending on the other eye shadows you use. Clue is a taupe-y gray with brown, and a frosty finish. Because of the different undertones in this color, Clue can easily be used with grays, browns or blacks. This color is a must-have in my opinion and is very unique.

this is one of my favorite MAC shadows... it was LE/re-released with the Originals collection, but sadly is no longer available =(

a lovely taupe-ish grey, and can be used to dress up a dramatic smoky eye, or for a lovely everyday look... the pigmentation is great, and it works well with just about every skin ton/eye color.. a very versatile, gorgeous addition to anyones make up bag!

would definitely repurchase if it was available again

Clue is a neutral taupe/gray. I RIS and I must say, I'm enjoying this shade. It's subtle enough for the work place and blends great with other shadows. Today I'm wearing it with Naked Lunch and it makes a great sheer gray eye. Clue is very versatile and I think if and when I run out, I'd like to repurchase.

A different kind of neutral. I love the fact that I can spin this grey or taupe or brown, depending on the other eye colors I use. This is my quick go-to shade because it goes with anything. It is also the only shadow I take with me on trips because of its versatility.
I really hope this isn't LE.

Bought this color based on reviews and I don't regret it. Very nice neutral color. I use this to blend or put over almost any other color. It's kind of a taupey grey. Today I have it on with the bright pink from MAC's royal assests cools palette. Sorry no pictures cuz my daughter broke my camera... =*( I'd buy again if I ever run out.

the description on the MAC site - mid/tone dirty gray with pearl [frost] - imo explains this eyeshadow pretty well, maybe ALMOST like a taupy-brown but it looks more gray to me. it applies pretty sheer [which adds to it's versatility] or you can layer it on for more color payoff. i absolutely love this - it's my favorite gray/taupy-brown shadow and unfortunately it's LE....looks like i'll have to stock up =)

This is in the same color family as two of my other fave mac shadows: Moth Brown and Copperplate. Clue is lighter and less purpley, and also less shimmery than moth brown. Copperplate reminds me of a matte version of Clue. Clue shows up on me a taupey grey with slight silver shimmer. You need to layer or apply wet to really get good payoff, but the sheerness makes it more versatile as you can wear it as a light wash, crease shade, or even a liner. Again, copperplate matte2 shadow is similar to this in color just matte and with way better pigmentation if payoff and a great taupey grey are what you're after.

FINALLY..A grey that doesn't turn blue on me..I've searched for years to no avail and thought I would have to give up till Clue.I think it's the slight taupe undertones to it that keeps it from turning.I don't find the texture hard, chalky or difficult to blend as I've read in some reviews. For reference I'm NC15(MAC Natural MSF in Light,VLWC Creme Beige,JI Warm Silk,KA SSE 05,La Praire Creme Peche)

Mid-tone dirty grey w/ silver pearl and frost formula. I've been loving greys for a smoky eye. I'm wearing this one today actually on my lids w/ sweet sienna in the crease and vanilla (pigm) to highlight. I like that I found a grey that's flattering and light enough to use as a lid color and even a highlight color too. Wish it wasn't LE, considering a back up of this one. It's a pretty new purchase so I haven't experimented w/ it too much yet. MAC C3/NC 20-25, 1.5 (shell) Chanel T.I

I bought this after my interest in MAC eyeshadows was renewed when a friend gave me Moth Brown as a present (see my review for that and you'll know what I mean). Clue is nothing like Moth Brown. Clue has no purple undertones and is seriously lighter. Moth Brown is smokey whereas Clue is a nice neutral. It is a gray with a hint of taupe, which is what makes it unique. In terms of quality, however, I find I like Moth Brown better. Clue is less pigmented and "harder" in texture, though it is still blendable. Even so, it is a nice eyeshadow and I do not regret buying it.
