Hi everyone.I have been using this product for years! I'm 22yrs old.i tried everything from A-Z it seemed liked. Finally I found this stuff and the only one that works the best for me is the ----> selsun blue medicated <----. Again like other users said,it doesn't smell the best but it works the best! You will not see dramatic results after 1 use.it takes about 2-4 days for it to work at its peak, but its worth it!After that....NO FLAKES or itchiness!sometimes they have $1 off coupons attached to them.I think Walmart is the cheapest place to buy them for bout $8-9 but you will usually find them in grocery stores for around $9-10.So if your looking for dandruff shampoo BUY THIS!

I've been using Selsun Blue for a few years now for my dry, itchy scalp. My dermatologist said it'd be a good fit for me, and she mentioned that I really do have seborrheic dermatitis. Selsun Blue has worked just fine and I can tell the difference in terms of increased itchiness and increased flakiness if I skip using it for a week. I even considered taking it with me to the salon so that they'd use it on my hair. If this were 2 years ago, I'd give this 5 lippies for helping resolve my condition. However, the intense itchiness has returned and I think it's just that my scalp has gotten too used to the Selsun Blue so it's not working as well as it has in the past. Oh well. Def worth a try though, if you've never used it before. Plus I think Selsun Blue's active ingredient works way better than pyrithione zinc dandruff control products (well, at least it does for me). On to the next thing!

Uggghhh... love hate relationship with this product! First of all, it works SUPER well... leaves my hair nice and clean and soft and shiny and gets rid of the flakes that I have around the crown of my head... HOWEVER the smell is appalling. APPALLING! I can't stand it. It smells very masculine but NOT in a sexy way.. in more of an 'I'm an old man that uses anti-dandruff shampoo' kind of way which is NOT what ladies want to smell like (fine for the guys tbh). The smell wouldn't be such a problem if it didn't linger in my hair ALL day (seriously, 8 hours)... as my hair starts to dry and starts to look better, the smell just gets worse and worse. I normally don't like overly fragranced products, but this shampoo seriously needs *something* to mask the disgusting smell. I would love to give this product 5 lippies as it works so well, but I can't because of the awful, awful smell.

Selson Blue works well (I wont use the menthol formula, though) however I cannot use it on a regular basis because of the sulfur. Your head will smell like poop after washing and other people around you can easily smell it, too. It even stinks up my pillowcase.

My Husband is the one with the dandruff issue. I on ther other had had the hair fall issue. After every shower, a trail of hair. It was BAD. Well I was in the shower and realized I had run out of my regular stuff. I saw the Selsun Blue & figured oh well can't wait doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Let me tell you from the first use no hair in the shower. My THIN FINE hair was full of body & volume. 3 months later my hair is very healthy, there is NO HAIR FALL ISSUE what so ever, And the bonus is that my hair seemed to grow quicker. LOVE this stuff. Oh and by the way..... for those facial acne break out.... use it as a face wash & it will clear your acne up. Use some aveeno lotion after to mosturize,

I didn't want to try Head & Shoulders because of the silicones, so I tried this because of the decent reviews. It's approx. $5-$6 in my local supermarket (Aus), so really inexpensive.
I only had a bit of light-mild dandruff coming out of winter, but my scalp was so dry due to a horrific Paul Mitchell shampoo. So I tried this, washing about 2 times a week (for around 3 weeks now) and this has been amazing. No more flakes the first wash, and haven't felt any dryness so far.
It definately has a smell, but I'd call it 'medicinal' rather than 'chemical'. The shampoo itself is seriously blue, and more creamy than gel-like.
I'd definately buy this again (although I think its probably going to last for a while, the bottle I have, because you don't need much and shouldn't shampoo with this every wash). I'm thinking of using it from time to time as a clarifying shampoo for dry hair, especially in winter. So for people with a tendency towards dry skin/dry hair, I would reccommend this for occasional use so you can protect the scalp/roots. It may not help with other dry hair problems (e.g. frizziness or hair breaking off), but I find this really good right in at the roots so it definately solves one problem.
Also, just your average packaging. Would prefer a pump for ease, but I guess if you're not using it all the time (e.g. like your hair is fine for a month so you just want to put it back in the cupboard for a bit) maybe its best that it has a cap that you can seal it with. I guess that part is just personal but I would rather something different when it comes to actually dispensing the shampoo.
Only at 4 lippies at the moment just because I want to see with long term use, but I'm completely behind it right now. So try it out :)

EDIT: Over long term, I still like this, but becomes more 'average' with continued use. So I have dropped it down a lippie as I am uing far less, and more for clarifying. Would still probably get this again if necessary.

I have mixed feelings about this product. It used to cure my dandruff very effectively but doesn't seem to work any longer. I'm not sure whether it is because I over-used it over the years but it now causes my scalp to flare-up even worse than when I don't use it. Because it once worked (and may I add very well!!) for me I have to give it 3 lippies. Not a re-purchase for me, unfortunately.

It makes my hair soooooo dry without conditioner! But it's also the only thing in the world that controls my dandruff. probably because it's the only shampoo that uses a different active ingredient. if they make a conditioner that works with the shampoo, then i'd definitely buy it! It cleared my dandruff in 3 days! =D

I get an itchy scalp & flaking head in the winter time, and I've tried everything from Head & Shoulder to Garnier Fructis, to store brand, and nothing works like Selsun Blue. It's nothing short of a miracle for me. The itchiness and flaking stops immediately after one use. I don't know why i've never tried this before. It's a bit more expensive than the average anti-dandruff shampoo, but knowing how effective it is now, i don't mind paying a little extra.

This review is for the moisturizing formula.

I love this! Head and shoulders wouldn't do anything for my scalp but make the flaking worse. It got to the point where it looked like snow flakes and was hard to cover up (gross, I know). I decided to look elsewhere and use this. It lathers quite nicely, however, I would only use it for my scalp and not the rest of my hair as I feel that may be drying for my color-treated hair. I use this 1-2 times a week. It started working from the first time I used it and love it to death. First I put this on my scalp and rub it in well. Then I leave it for a few minutes and rise. Then I shampoo with my Kirkland sulfate free shampoo, then conditioner. My hair is beautiful now! The best part? DANDRUFF FREE!

I love this shampoo (I use the 2 in 1). It is so much better than Head & Shoulders because it is much gentler and more effective at controlling dandruff. It doesn't make your hair feel stripped of all moisture, while for me it eliminates dandruff after just one use. I used to have pimples all over my scalp and my head was always itchy.. I would pick and scratch my scalp which turned into a vicious cycle. I used to use Head & Shoulders and Pantene shampoos. Since I started using Selsun Blue, I no longer have that problem! My scalp always feels comfortable.

Some people may not like the scent but I don't mind it at all. For a dandruff shampoo, it is surprisingly gentle. I find it is even gentler than Johnson's baby shampoo, which leaves my hair and scalp feeling dry.

The lather is good and a little bit goes a long way. One bottle has lasted me a very long time. I recently strayed from this shampoo but I always find myself coming back to this one.

I have used this for years from time to time when I needed to clear up a few flakes. I have never used this on a daily basis.

My advice would be to use it once or twice a week. Shampoo it in and leave it for 1-2 minutes. You will notice results instantly, especially if you have any itchy scalp. This works much better than Head and Shoulders.

I have the medicated 2.5% specifically for my tinea versicolor, I use it when I start to tan in the spring and it rids my skin of all fungus so I don't all of a sudden get white patches of skin 2 weeks later. I use it everyday for a week in the shower. Let it sit on my skin for 5 minutes then rinse thoroughly, it has really helped with the little bumps on the backs of my arms as well. A staple for my skin!

i got the medicated version of selsun blue after having a horrible experience with head and shoulders. selsun blue is wayyy better. i used it with the dark blue dove conditioner so it was not as drying, and i always got compliments on my hair. the scent isn't the best, but its doable. ^_^

I use the 2.5% formula.

I don't suffer from dandruff, but I do have tinea versicolor, and this stuff does the trick. It has to be used repeatedly to get results, but it does work.

I use it directly on my skin as a lotion overnight, and I also use it as a body wash on affected areas. Basically, it has the exact same ingredient that the prescription lotions, without the doctor's visit and pharmacy bill.

Unfortunately, it stinks, so I don't like to put it on in the mornings, because I don't want people people to smell it on me. As a result, I often forget to apply it, but I can't hold my own laziness against the product.

I have use this every time I wash mostly as a preventative measure. I get a few flakes and they are normal, but on my dark hair they show up waaaay too well. Not good. Anyways, I like this. Head and Shoulders didn't do ANYTHING for my scalp but this keeps it nice and UNflaky and itchy. Particularly during those dry winter months, this is a lifesaver. I really like the fresh minty smell.

I bought the medicated shampoo version. The sulfur smell lingers on your hair even if you rinse well. I only use a dime to quarter size twice a week. I have mild dandruff, a few flakes, but not visible in my hair. Although my scalp is not itchy, I don't like the flakes or scabs. My dermatologist recently recommended Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp, which I believe is more effective than Selsun Blue.

I get seasonal dandruff that may be something more. I bought the CVS version of this stuff which is the same thing pretty much because I looked at the ingredients and they both use selenium sulfide as their main active ingredient. Let me just say that this didn't do anything for me except treat the itch. I had crazy crazy itching before I used this and that made it go away completely. However, it didn't help with the flaking and extreme scaling that I am getting. This year is the worst I have ever had and it is just not doing what I need. I'm going to try nizoral.
